We had a lovely dinner at Trattoria Giovanni. We loved how cozy, spacious, and genuinely local it felt, like eating at your grandma's house. It's close enough to the lively, bustling part of Firenze to feel connected, yet just far enough to escape the city's never-ending wave of tourists. The service was incredible, and the owner (I'm pretty sure it was the owner?) brought so much energy that he single-handedly turned the whole place into an eclectic little spot during the "rush hour" of the evening. The menu was solid, if a bit "generic" at times. While everything we ordered was delicious, nothing at Trattoria Giovanni felt like a dish you couldn't find elsewhere... and honestly, that's perfectly fine! It was traditional, comforting, and exactly what we were craving. The plate of cured meats and cheese was phenomenal, a great start to the meal. The pastas were really good as well, though one of the meat dishes had a slightly off texture, with the chunks of meat a bit overcooked. Wow wow wow!! Dined ar Giovanni's 4 out of 7 nights while in Florence. Hands down the best carpaccio in Florence!!! The prosciutto & Melone also amazing! Tender and tasty ossobucco. To top it off the tiramisu was just as spectacular as every other dish. The manager is super nice, cool and welcoming jamming out with an amazing playlist of aid & hard rock, dance & classic tunes. Our hotel convinced us to not make reservations at a restaurant that our friends have highly recommended because they said it's very touristy. They suggested another restaurant because that's where locals eat at. After going back and forth, they said they will make our reservations for 8pm the day we check in. When we checked in, they said they are closed so no dinner reservations. They could have notified us so we can make other accommodations. I was annoyed AF since we reached out about a month before checking in. At this point, any good restaurant will be booked up and not taking walk ins around dinner time. We looked online and found Trattoria Giovanni to be open. Mink was tired and over it at this point so she asked me to bring back takeout. Of course I was starving, tired and annoyed at the situation. As a foodie, I want to maximize every meal at good restaurants because we are visiting and don't know when we will be back again. Fortunately, Trattoria Giovanni had a lot of good reviews. When I arrived at the restaurant, only one table was occupied. It made sense since it was around 5pm and no one really eats till 8pm. I knew what I wanted already so I ordered a Tagliolini alla crema di tartufo and asked about their Bistecca alla Fiorentina because they had two options of this regional specialty. Both required a minimum of 1Kg order. The tradizionale was 55,00€/Kg and the Chianina was 78,00€/Kg. I got the Chianina medium rare. My water and wine arrived right away. It took a while for my order to come. I was surprised as they were empty and the other person already was eating her meal. The pasta arrived first then the steak. They prepared the steak perfectly but as a whole, it was as just ok. Maybe I had too much A5 prior to this trip. The pasta was quite good! Nice change from Spaghetti with Seafood. Customer service was lacking and I had to go out of my way to get the server to get take out containers and the check. He was outside talking story with his friends the entire time I was there. Was this overpriced for what you get? I personally thought so but at least they were open for an early dinner. 2.5 stars due to horrible customer service. read more

Once we arrived in Florence we settled in our B&B and went out to grab a bite. I was excited to see so many high rated restaurants on Yelp and decided to check this place out since it was closest to me! We swung by around 7 PM and did not need a reservation but did notice the restaurant filled up after 8 PM. I ordered the creamy truffle pasta which was so delicious. My husband ordered the Tuscan sausages which was not his favorite so I would stick to the pasta! Parallel parked our car near the shops and did a little bit of shopping at Gucci before going to lunch. Located just a couple blocks over the bridge, was the best restaurant I've been to in Italy. Everything was so delicious. Even the wine recommendation that accompanied our meal was amazing. We felt tipsy and great afterwards. It rained in the morning and so we ordered the following items which warmed our souls: - Chianti Classico (Red Wine) - Caprese Salad (a recent add to the menu) - Maltagliati al Brasato di Guancia di Mucca (twice boiled minestrone soup) - Tagliatelle al Funghi Porcini (Yum!) - Pappardelle al Cinghiale - Steak Fiorentine Every single dish was to die for! My mom raved about the Truffle Cream pasta that she got. The cow cheek ragu pasta was extremely tender and tasted great. The wine selection was very good, and our waiter Nicolo was exceptionally helpful giving us suggestions. They even took pictures of our family and each table was gifted a Lemoncello shot when dinner was over. The pappardelle with wild boar sauce is a drier pasta, but great portion of meat. Their Savoy cabbage was also a great side if you're looking for some vegetables. Tiramisu could've used some alcohol. Started with the tomato soup, please don't be mistaken by the name "soup", it was a soggy bread crumbs soaked up by the tomato soup. It looked exactly like a tomato colored risotto. For 9 euros, it can fill me up without a problem at all. We did tried to finish half, but we gave up at the end hoping not to miss out on the pasta that we ordered. We got the beef stewed pasta and the truffle pasta. Luckily, both of the amount were fairly light and we got to finish those. Beef stewed pasta was on the salty side with lots of beef and little pasta. Flavor tasted exactly like the beef stew in the US. The truffle pasta had no real pieces of truffle and it was a bit bland. Found this Gem on Yelp! We were excited to try the Florentine Steak and it did not disappoint! It is sold by the Kilogram (2.2 pounds or something close) so we shared it between 3 people and still had a bunch left. It was really tender and super flavorful. We also had a pasta with truffle cream sauce and gnocchi with Gorgonzola and walnut sauce. It was absolutely delicious! The gnocchi melted in your mouth. First stop in Florence! Other Yelpers raved about the Tagliolini with Truffle Cream, and I couldn't resist. My husband and I were immediately seated. We ordered mozzarella, prosciutto, and bruschetta. All of that was so fresh and refreshing to start with. Probably too much food, but oh well. We were splurging on our honeymoon. The pasta was incredible. I wish we shared so we weren't trying to consume a giant plate of the same food, but my husband unfortunately doesn't like truffle. The cream was quite heavy, and even for someone who likes truffle, a little too strong... so good, though. Just pair a glass of white wine with it. Our waiter was nice. My husband had been practicing his Italian to honor his roots, and even when it was clear he spoke at a grade school level, the waiter tried his best not to switch to English. We'd seen it on menus throughout Tuscany, but we never ordered it until Trattoria Giovanni. After eating it, my wife was constantly scanning menus to see if other places had it. Here's what I knocked back: Crostini Con Fonduta - bruschettas with truffle fondue Pici Senesi Ragu - pici pasta with meat sauce Controfiletto al Pepe Verde - beef sirloin with green pepper Patate Arrosto - roasted potatoes The crostini were amazing.
