This place is just amazing! I was able to get a late lunch reservation when I was planning my trip to Italy. I arrived pretty late almost right before the place was closed, but they still seated me and I was the only one left in the restaurant. I got the tasting menu with the wine pairing. Since farm to plate is the restaurant's philosophy, all the ingredients are brought from its own farm, and I really loved the emphasis of the fresh vegetables and herbs throughout different courses. I was also really impressed by the creativity in the foie gras sandwich, which is so different than the foie gras courses I'd get normally elsewhere. The pasta courses with different meats were also really good, and their wine selection was also amazing. The interior is very modern and sophisticated, and the staff is incredibly friendly. It's a great spot for dates, anniversary or celebrations in general. Overall, this is probably my favorite restaurant in Florence so far and during my trip to Italy last time, and I'd definitely love to come back. The restaurant is right by Piazzale Michelangelo, so it's perfect to get for a walk after a meal, and enjoy the view of Florence. read more

The decor is amazing, it's very cozy and comfortable. Beware I did sit right next to the kitchen and wearing a sweater it was very warm and slightly uncomfortable. My own fault probably, but be warned. Let's start with the service, they deserve their second Michelin star based solely on how WONDERFUL their service is. Perhaps that's why it's so good, they are vying after that second star. But nonetheless, they have an amazing staff currently that are very attentive, speak near perfect English, and are more than happy to explain the meals and wine pairings to death. As anyone that frequents Michelin restaurants knows, always go for the tasting menu. It's the true test on the restaurant. So I did just that. I love and adore this places farm-to-table background. Even the wine pairings were local or at least from Italy, The presentation was fantastic for all of the courses. I loved the plating. Now to the food, I felt as I was getting to the end, the food should have been blowing my mind and palette as we went on. However, I found the opposite. It is almost as if the chef started out so strong with the first half, and then it lost its fervor. The rabbit ravioli was too sweet with the wine pairing and the consistency left something to power through. Following with the duck was just too much dark meat and there was not much flavor to the duck. The deserts were fantastic and I was a fan of a lot of the wine pairings. With the environment we are in with competitive edge in dining, they need to step it up and refresh and renew. It was about $250 for the tasting and pairing and I also had a glass of champagne for before the tasting. Not bad price point, but to a trainer pallette it left something to be wanted. read more

We walked here from our Airbnb, it's definitely a far from the city centre but Florence is very walkable. Depending on when you're reservation is, you can check out Piazza Michelangelo before or after the meal. Our reservation was for 8pm. I suppose we arrived there a bit early at ~750pm, but we were the first ones there. The hostess grabbed our name, and exclaimed that our reservation was actually for 9pm, but it was alright. At first we just believed her because perhaps our 24 hour time conversions were to be blamed, but we double checked later in the meal and found out it was indeed 20:00. It was a bit of a rude comment to make in the first place considering there was no one there yet, but we didn't let it affect us because the rest of the meal we had very good service. Because we were the first there, all eyes were on us for the first 30 minutes. We were treated like king and queen. They have small baskets to place your belongings in beside your table so you don't have to leave them on the ground. The complimentary starter and champagne were a lovely addition. We ended up NOT doing the tasting menu, and just shared a number of dishes in hopes to save some money as post-college students. Unfortunately I don't have access to the May menu anymore, but we ordered the following to the best of my memory: Uovo Biologico starter (free range egg with bacon, cheese, and horse radish). This was best described as a soup with a cream and floury base. I enjoyed it though my boyfriend thought it was really weird and couldn't really eat it. 2 of the Cappelacci di Picci (pigeon filled pasta): many people rave about this dish - we both loved it as well. The portion is on the smaller side, but we had to consider the secondi dishes coming up. We had the Coniglio and the Agnello: rabbit and goat. Both delicious as well. Chianti Monteraponi: a red wine recommendation. They placed our wine bottle far away from our reach. As the restaurant started filling up with people, they started to pay less attention to us, so it was a bit difficult getting their attention to fill our wine glasses. The complimentary bread was uniquely seasoned, probably some of the better tasting bread we had throughout our Europe trip. We did not order dessert but did get the complimentary dessert platter which contained a few chocolates surrounding this weird tree made out of cornflakes (yes we confirmed with them). Overall we enjoyed our fine dining experience. It came to 171 euros split between 2 people including the still water. The bread looked like it was complimentary, which we appreciated. In the end we saved maybe 10 euros from the 6 course menu (which doesn't include wine), and around 60 euros from the 6 course including wine tastings (note that we ordered a bottle of wine). I'm sure the tasting menu is splendid but I don't think I'd be willing to pay for it on a second trip back to Florence. read more

This was one of our FAVORITE meals in Italy during our honeymoon. Get ready for a long meal as per usual with tasting menus but it was a wonderful time for us. We actually were seated at the bar area because we made a late reservation, but the area was actually quite charming and it was quiet so it worked out perfectly! Let me start by saying that the service was absolutely phenomenal. However, I was underwhelmed by the food. I was expecting this to be my best meal in Italy.. it certainly was the most expensive. But unfortunately, it was not. We tried the chef's tasting menu. I expected the majority of dishes to WOW us, but I think they really missed the mark. For an over 300 euro dinner for 2, I wanted explosions of fireworks in my mouth. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Book in advance for the full dining experience, lunch or dinner... it is a truly special experience and should be your first choice for a truly special time. Hot tip- While the restaurant is a tough reservation, the adjoining wine bar is very approachable, and open to walk-ins without a reservation. We were in italy for 2 weeks, and this was one of the best meals we had here. We went to some very high end restaurants here and we found that most of the modern takes on italian food failed. This restaurant succeeded extensively. Sitting right next to the kitchen window, we managed to get a view of the prep and make some small talk with the chef. The chef had no air at all, was extremely friendly, and even made us a special dish when we saw a VIP order it. The one dish they made that blew my mind was the amberjack. It was perfectly cooked, with a great chew and incredible flavor. Another dish that was highly memorable was the deconstructed cheese cake. The flavors were outstanding and the textures and flavors very balanced. I'm writing this review three weeks after eating here and still can imagine those bites I had that were life changing. read more

Dare I say this was my favorite meal of my life?! Everything about it - the service, the timing, the temperature, the plating, and the flavors of the food was perfect. I'm not a Michelin star connoisseur but I have been to a couple in my lifetime and I will say this meal stood out for me. I'm glad I ignored all my friends' input that "all food in Italy is good" and it wasn't worth it to go to a high-end dining establishment. We were provided some bread (the best we had in Florence!) and some bites. We decided to go with the eight course dinner, which I have no regrets about, because we were satisfied and happy we got the extra courses to try everything. They said they were happy to swap out anything from the six course dinner or even the a la carte menu. We ended up swapping out the creme brulee foie gras (we aren't big fans of foie gras) for the vanilla potato foam with white chocolate, truffle, and sweet and violet potatoes and also the amberjack entree for the lamb shoulder, rocket, goat's milk yogurt and onions al cartoccio with vanilla aroma. Based on the reviews the amberjack was apparently awesome, but the lamb I have no regrets over. I've never had lamb that tasted as good as that. You guys, I'm shook and don't know if I can eat lamb anymore unless it's from this restaurant. My boyfriend also got the wine flight which was amazing, we were given an overview of each wine he tried and it was the perfect pairing for our meal. There was also enough to share with me. When I asked my boyfriend what his favorite was, he couldn't pick but both pasta dishes we got (Taglierini pasta with baby squid, sage, red hot chili pepper and the Cappelletti pasta filled with pigeon, butter and thyme) was AMAZING. And we were sad after the cheesecake course because our beautifully orchestrated dinner was coming to an end. We are definitely going to make a special trip back to Florence so we can eat here again. I even requested that I get a copy of the menu we had which they emailed me the next day, along with the wine pairings. Do not hesitate on getting a reservation - you can do it on the website but you will need to put down a deposit. We love fine dining and don't mind paying for it. This is a nice try but misses the mark in my opinion. The service is 5 star, but the chef has an eclectic approach that I find strange. I would not come back at any price but certainly not at these. And if the food is expensive, the wine list is over the top! I hate inflexible restaurants. When I asked for a mixed green salad with lettuce, carrots, tomatoes and onions, they refused and would only provide a " biological" salad even though they had all the ingredients. Wow what an amazing meal! My wife found this place on TripAdvisor and we decided we were going to try this if we could get a table and luckily for us, we did. We walked about half an hour from the train station Santa Maria Novella and while we were walking, I was like where is this place, it better be good but it was well worth the walk (the walk back will burn off the calories of the delicious food). La Bottega del Buon Caffe is a small intimate restaurant with neutral colors. The restaurant is so comfortable, beautify, cozy, just everything you would want for a wonderful intimate meal with your significant other. We ordered two appetizers, three entrees and one dessert. Appetizers were pigeon pasta, trio of foie gras. Entrees were trio of amber jack, duck breast and pigeon. The dessert, trio of crime brûlée. Pigeon pasta was amazing as was the trio of foie gras. One of the ways they made the foie gras was like creme brûlée which was incredible. The amber jack entree was probably the best amber jack my wife and I ever had. Generous in portion, plenty of flavor and cooked perfectly, I could have had another plate. The duck breast with figs was extremely delicious and also very generous in portions. The pigeon wasn't as good as the first two entrees but it was definitely good. The creme brûlée was very good as it came in pistachio and almond flavor which were terrific. This restaurant really surprised us. This was definitely one of the best meals we've had this year. The surprising thing is that the portion was bigger than what I'm used to here in the Bay Area and it was not as expensive as I expected. If you are in Florence make it a note to try this place. Yes you're in Tuscany and there are plethora of great places to try but this is a can't miss. Let me also add the service was excellent, the chef came out to ensure everything was great and they even welcome you with a glass of persecco. Everything you would expect from a Michelin star restaurant. Amazing service, beautiful decor, delicious food and a memorable culinary experience. The server spoke great English. My wife loved the decor ... exposed red brick with the open kitchen. We both decided on the 6 course tasting option and the pigeon ravioli was my personal favorite. Compared to other Michelin Star restaurants in this area, this one lacks dedication and passion. Seems like a revenue-driven place. Ristorante Arnolfo (Michelin 2 star) near San Gimignano costs similarly price-wise, but food from Arnolfo is just completely a whole new level (many more high quality welcoming dishes, and taste way much better). The staff are all wonderful and very attentive; they made our dinner fly by in an unnoticed 3 hours with ease. What a wonderful dining experience! I am so happy that we chose to spend our final evening here before heading to our next destination. My husband has several food allergies and often times is treated rudely when he reviews his allergies. We were pleased that upon making our reservation he was asked about food allergies. When we arrived, the waiter and the Maître D' kindly reviewed his allergies and told us that it was not a problem. They reviewed the menu and pointed out things he should avoid and things that could be modified. The food was beyond delicious and unlike other tasting menus, I wasn't left feeling hungry or too full. I truly appreciate the attention to detail and the thoughtful/playful dishes. An unbelievable experience from top to bottom. Leaving aside the stellar food (veal tongue, pigeon ravioli?, truffle cream w flash fried potatoes) and the ambiance of a turn of the century wine cellar converted into an open kitchen paradise, I have never experienced restaurant service such as this in my life. We were fortunate to earn last minute reservations due to the last minute cancellation of another party. The Saints we had been visiting in all the cathedrals were looking out for us! From the moment we entered the lounge and later the restaurant, we had a whirl of servers, bus boys, sommeliers, maitre Ds and managers assisting us with each movement. My date felt like royalty - and that makes you feel great as a host! The wine pairings were equally as unique. A rare Sicilian white wine from the northern coast, a vino nobile of montepulchiano, a San Gregorio Sangiovese from Campania, a sagrantino sweet red dessert wine of incomparable smoothness to compliment a chocolate truffle melange. One of the better restaurants I've been to. Service was top notch. We sat right next to the kitchen so you could see the staff working and how disciplined they were. Lots of "Si Chef"s going on. It was amazingly to see them plate with tweezers. We did the tasting menu. I took pictures of everything because it was so innovative. For example, cherry tomatoes that weren't cherry tomatoes or a plant in a pot. Every single dish was flavored so well and worked well with the progression served. If you have the budget for this place, you will be absolutely amazed at the food. Go and treat yourself, as this was one of the best meals I have ever had. We went there for lunch, as I don't really have the appetite for 6+ courses and feel uncomfortable spending 105 or 125 Euros per person for dinner. We were warmly greeted and seated at a nice table. The next five minutes got me a bit wound up as we were trying to find out what the Business Lunch menu of the day was (three course set meal) and were having a bunch of people listen to us, and then not return with an answer. This eventually got sorted out and we then ordered the Business Lunch along with an additional course to make it a 4 course meal ( I believe that brought it up to 65 euros). More than enough food for us and we would not have been able to eat the 6 course meal they offer. I ordered a bottle of wine and was very happy with the list, which is broad and also has many selections at a more modest price range (we had a very nice Vermentino under 40 euros). The service is extremely attentive and very professional. The food is artistry from a visual perspective and has flavors that match the good looks. The work that goes into making these dishes is phenomenal.
