Creative, honest, and just overall BADASS! My Story/ Long Review: This review for Hilda is long overdo! She has literally changed my life and I couldn't be more grateful to have found her. I met Hilda a little over a year ago when we happened to cross paths in DTLA at the building her studio is in. She caught my attention because her hair was dyed this gorgeous blue and the style was perfectly kept and just AWESOME. At the time, my hair was a raggedy, green-ish, broken mess with hanging extensions and bald spots from getting it dyed blue from a different hairstylist in OC. I started talking to Hilda and immediately caught onto her warm, caring, genuine vibe. She's the kind of person you would want to sit down and talk to for hours because she's engaged in conversations, down to earth, and not judgmental. This was important to me because I sometimes spend HOURS getting my hair done so I want good company! We talked for a few minutes and at the end I asked her what she did for work. I could tell she was someone I would trust so I told her I was looking for a hairstylist in LA! I loved that she got to know me before we even discussed business, it says a lot about a person in LA. Hilda took a look at my hair while we stood in the hallway of the building and she instantly knew she could help. She told me "I care about my clients having HEALTHY hair, above all" and she listed a few ways she thought she could help save the mess on my head. I decided to give her a try and SHE CHANGED MY LIFE! I naturally have fine, thin hair so the extensions and dye job I had prior to Hilda literally RUINED my hair. I had bald spots on my head from where the extensions rubbed and tugged. The hair I had left was extremely damaged, dry, and I couldn't put my hair in a pony tail because there was hardly any hair left. It was a mess and my self confidence suffered greatly because all my close friends and family noticed my thinning hair too. I hated going out in public because that meant everyone else noticed how bad it was too. I literally cried everyday for a week when I was trying to style my hair. The moment I sat in Hilda's hair I felt hope and when I left later that I day all of my friends complimented how much better my hair looked just from the first visit. Hilda is realistic. She told me it would take some time for my hair to grow back and be truly healthy again but she had a plan and that was all I needed. She would check in with me when it was time to book my. Ext appointment (per my request) and she always made sure I was comfortable with what we were doing. She would NEVER push treatments or color she thought would hinder my my overall hair health just because she would get paid more. She genuinely respected me as a person and was professional while being invested in my satisfaction. We were in this hair journey together! This is the first time I've had a hair stylist just as invested in my well-being as I am! Hilda's overall prices are very fair too. You get great service for a very fair price, which I really appreciate. There were no "miracle products" or "miracle treatments" involved in this process. She did recommend Surface shampoo and conditioner & I trusted her enough to try it. I love it because it's all natural ingredients, sulfate free, and the shampoo she recommended makes your scalp feel stimulated from the cayenne pepper or mint that's in it (not sure which). But she's not a "one size fits all" kind of stylist- she makes recommendations based on each persons specific needs. These products are also AFFORDABLE! I've spent so much money on products that aren't nearly as good. These bottles are about $25 each. It's a little over a year and my hair is SO healthy, SO shiny, and SO much thicker/longer. I get compliments on my hair now and my friends have all noticed the amazing difference in my hair. It has made me feel SO much better about myself. I don't feel like I'm trying to hide something all the time now. I also really respect Hilda because she respects her craft enough to keep learning and training. Most people get complacent once they get to a certain place in their career but not her. Since I've met her she's taken course and completed a prestigious master hair program just to keep furthering her skills (which are already amazing). She also is a creative who does styling for editorials and other fun photo shoots. She's traveled to conferences across the world to continue to grow her skills and gain even more knowledge. She's also always up for a challenge. For New Years I went to a 1920s themed party and she styled my hair with era appropriate style complete with a rhinestoned headband. Ok I'm done gushing. I have been meaning to write this review for some time. Back in December, I searched Yelp and Google trying to find a great hair stylist that was less than $75 for a haircut in the downtown area. After looking at many salons, I contacted Hilda over email. I'm happy about how stress-free booking an appointment was with Hilda. Her salon is in a studio in a building on 5th Street between Broadway and Hill. It's right next to the pershing square metro stop. Parking is really difficult in this area. If you drive, plan on parking at least a block away. When I got to her building, Hilda met me downstairs in the lobby. She has a relaxing space and she made me tea to sip on. I wanted just a haircut and layers that easy to handle on a daily basis (so no highlights or color). She communicates well to find out what the client is looking for and listens. I bought online some of the products she recommended and feel like my hair is healthy after at least two months of using them. I was able to pay her through Venmo but accidentally paid her twice. She was super sweet and immediately sent back my second payment. After at least three months, I like how my hair grew out and falls. It's still flattering. She just gave me the best cut I've had in years and incredible hi/lo lites that grow out with a super natural look. They get better looking every week, I couldn't believe it at first.
