My experience at Chateau Salon in Montrose, CA was so disappointing that it prompted me to write my first-ever review. I booked an "Occasion Styling" appointment ($120) with Marie Kazarian for my Senior Prom after being recommended by a friend who had a positive experience at the salon for the same service. Two days before my appointment, Marie texted asking for photos of the styles I wanted. I sent two options, and she assured me she could do both. When I arrived, she asked to see my Prom dress and suggested we go with an updo instead of a half-up, half-down style. From the start, the appointment felt unprofessional. She didn't ask any questions about my hair type, texture, or how it holds style. She began curling my hair with a large-barrel curling iron but used no heat protectant or styling products. The curls fell out within minutes. When attempting the updo, it quickly became clear she didn't have a plan. The result was a stiff, messy bun with random pieces pinned awkwardly--completely different from what I had shown her. After two failed attempts, I asked her to switch to a half-up, half-down style, hoping it would be easier. At that point, I felt frustrated because I shouldn't have to lower my expectations when I'm paying for a specific look. Unfortunately, the second attempt was no better. She pulled my hair into an uneven ponytail with no teasing, shaping, or effort to match the reference photos. I became so upset that I started crying and texted my mom, who was sitting across the salon. My mom ended up stepping in to help guide Marie because it was clear she didn't know how to execute the style. The entire experience was incredibly upsetting. I spent the rest of the appointment in tears, and despite other stylists clearly seeing how distressed I was, as I made eye contact with various of them, no one offered assistance. When Marie's next client arrived, I had to leave with my hair unfinished and poorly styled. What stood out the most was how completely unapologetic Marie was throughout the entire appointment. At no point did she acknowledge that things were going wrong, offer a solution, or show any concern for how upset I was. Instead, she dismissed the situation by saying, "It's going to look better when you have your dress and makeup on," which only made things worse. I ended up going home and having to completely redo my own hair for Prom after paying $120 for a professional service. That alone says everything. I left the salon having paid for a hairstyle that looked nothing like what I requested and for one of the worst service experiences I've ever had. None of them gave me anything close to the pictures I showed them, and two seemed a bit tentative and inexperienced. I came in to get my highlights retouched, and needless to say, I left an incredibly happy customer. Mari did an amazing job--yet again! I asked for a retouch and to go just a bit lighter than the last set of highlights she did for me. She nailed it, all while keeping my hair looking and feeling healthy. She also recommended some great products for me to use at home, which I really appreciated. It's clear she genuinely cares--not just about how your hair looks in the moment, but how it will hold up over time. This truly is the salon to be at. I just went to Chateu Salon yesterday and wanted to share my experience. For a little background, my hair is a short blunt bob with a horrible balayage job into some black dyed hair. I was calling local salons and pricing color and meeting for some consults when I came across Chateau Salon. I spoke directly to stylist and after multiple texts I had such a good feeling about it that I booked an an appointment! My stylist was named Jada and she came ob her day off just so I could get my hair fixed by her. Once I got to the salon and met with her, we went over all the color options and she listened to all my thoughts and ideas and answered all my questions. Once the whole process started, Jada told me step by step what she was doing before she did all of her magic to my hair. She was very sweet and professional. I walked out of the salon so incredibly happy, I have no idea how she got the exact color I had envisioned with all the random descriptions I gave her but she did. I was shopping for a new stylist, and I found the Yelp page for Chateau. I booked an initial consultation with Mari, based on her reviews, and when I met with her, I told her what I wanted but didn't have a photo for inspiration. She still understood what I meant and then she did a hair strand test on me for free, and when that turned out okay, I made a follow-up appointment. For the past few months, I had been box dying my hair black and rarely got it cut. I wanted something less dark and a clean look that was low maintainence, and the color correction and cut turned out beautiful. Besides loving the final result, throughout the process, I appreciated that she explained to me what she was doing and offered me drinks while I was waiting in the chair. The salon itself is very clean and there is plenty of street parking in the area. I paid my meter with an app, so whenever it ran out, I could refill the meter from my phone, which was really convenient. read more

Paid $76 + compulsory $10 tip for the worst blow-out I've ever gotten. Tried this place for the 1st time. For reference: I have thick hair & I know it's not as easy to blow dry as someone with short thin hair but I get blow outs once a month and they *always* look silky smooth, bouncy, put-together, and last me 6 days (I can even refresh a few pieces after cycling workouts and it still looks effortlessly perfect.) I took this photo ONE hour after the blowout. I'm just super disappointed. And I'm a musician and had to perform with this giant puffy frizz situation. I told the stylist to curl the ends after she was done because some pieces had a wave and others were stick straight. Idk she did something with the blowdryer for one minute and that was that. She wasn't fixing a former haircut that needed to be corrected and quite frankly concerning that she would be dishonest about why I wanted my ends trimmed, this adds to the reason why no one should trust the stylist Oorfa. I am growing out my hair and my ends needed a trim, this was fully discussed which is why she agreed that touching the layers was not advisable, I took her advice and glad I did because I would of had more issues. Shes the stylist and should know how to do a trim or at the very least turn away the client if she didn't want to do it. I will file a claim for the refund of the atrocious hair cut. Mari is amazing, she never lets me down, and I always leave feeling my best. She does my color and cut and will forever be my hairstylist because she's so good at styling my hair for my face shape and needs. I get so many compliments after I get my hair done with her. She really is a magician at her craft. On top of that, she's not one of those slow and painful stylist that make you want to crawl out of your skin because they're so slow, she's effective, effective and so good at what she does. Had an appointment with karina, i started with purple hair and wanted to go blonde obviously a harder task but she agreed to do it. I had an appointment scheduled, tried to cancel on me day of but i told her i was unable to do anything other than that day so i ended up still going in. At the beginning of the appointment we started with a haircut i asked for 2-3 inches off my hair, she even showed me how much she was going to cut off before she actually did it, everything was going good THEN she finishes shows me SHE CUT 5 INCHES off my hair, whatever i didn't say anything but i was very upset. Next we start to discuss the hair color, she changes the price (now 600) on me after going over it over text. I should have left there but no I stayed she did the blonde, HORRIBLE ORANGE COLOR. I also still had green in my hair but in my hair but understandable since it was purple and she warned me about that. After it was done I wasn't about to argue (she was very obviously in a rush) definitely should have said something. I go home and see it up close in different lighting EVEN WORSE absolutely horrible orange patchy lots of breakage. Mind you I literally told her my entire hair background, left nothing out. Good morning Mari. I'm very disappointed with my haircut. I washed my hair and blow dried it myself and it looks nothing like the picture. I came in at the exact time on Friday and was washed and had to wait for you to finish with another client. It took you 3 minutes to cut my hair like a bob and went back to your other client.
