Death is by far not easy to ever deal with. I live in Las Vegas & my Mother lived in Des Moines, Ia. On September 19th, 2021 unfortunately my Mother passed away in the comforts of her home. This company from the moment their people arrived at my Mothers house. They were so loving, gentle, respectful & caring to say the least. I sat on FaceTime and watched them care for my Mother in such the most loving way. Bethany Fast was appointed to my family for ALL her last wishes. I have to say this woman NEEDS A BIG RAISE. She is truly an Angel. Bethany took care of everything despite the many challenges she came up against with dealing with my family. Bethany went above and beyond for us on numerous occasions. She remained calm and loving through it all. Mind you she was pregnant and due at any moment. Yet she remained such a gentle soul. With the upmost customer service. The reason I visited was not a fun one. The funeral director was kind and courteous. You are greeted upon arrival, you sign into an electronic book. Makes everything easier for the families. The visitation was held in a big room, filled with flowers, photos, and a few drinks for guests. Lots of room which was needed. Very clean and well cared after facility. It is incredibly hard to know what to do when a loved one passes away, let alone take time to grieve. My Grandmother had the foresight to pre-select Iles Funeral Home and give them some direction, so I didn't have to do that. The staff was kind and very considerate of my feelings. They took care of everything. Shawn helped with every last detail and was just so gentle, yet capable. I hadn't planned a funeral before - but Shawn was terrific to guide me along the way. I highly recommend Iles Westover Funeral home. My parents, both in their 80s, had the foresight to plan ahead. Almost everything was planned and in the computer system, including obituaries for both of them ahead of time, allowing for less burden and stress when the sad day comes. One never knows when that day arrives. For my mother it was Sept. 23, 2016. She did have health issues, but passing from a heart issue in the middle of the night was unexpected and quite devastating for us all. Westover knew exactly what to do and how to console my heart broken father. They were married 61 years. I live out of town so cannot list the names of the employees that assisted us or give details on the first meeting with Westover. I flew in from Phoenix and can honestly say I was relieved to find out how much pre-planning my parents had done. And the professionalism of the staff was second to none. My mother had a wonderful visitation and a memorial service as beautiful as she was. The programs were designed in one evening while my family discussed flowers and other details. We provided 60 photos which Westover turned into a video tribute very quickly. It was just total professionalism from step 1. They even knew how to talk to a crying family. I cannot thank Westover enough for all they did and the care they showed in my family's very emotional time of need. And if pre-planning is something your family has considered, believe me, I cannot imagine what our week would have been like without it, or without Westover to guide us through it. read more

My experience exemplified what I consider to be the predatory behavior that has earned this industry its deserved reputation. After my brother-n-law's passing, we sent his body to Isles Funeral Home on Hickman to be cremated. We asked for a price and was told we would be contacted by a director. We were finally contacted by Shawn. He informed our family that the most economical cremation would cost $3000. This seemed very high as I had cremated my brother several years earlier in Texas for $800. We again explained that we were interested in the most elementary cremation. He then tried to explain that it wouldn't be fair to the people who were paying $3000-$5000......which didn't make sense at all. We then decided to check at other facilities for their price. I found several places that would perform the cremation for $895! We arranged to have the body transferred to the new facility. Isles charged us $350 for transferring the body from Mercy hospice in Johnston to Isles. This seemed very high so I called 4 other funeral homes for their transfer fee. The highest I was quoted was $150! 2 places even said that this happens frequently and the two homes just reciprocate. It saddens me to think that some people try to take advantage of others in their time of grief.......THE WORST FORM OF GREED! read more

I had my mother's funeral this week at the Grandview Park location with Ile's funeral home. The funeral home was beautiful. Randy and his associates went above and beyond making sure every little detail was taken care of. From cataloging the flowers, making a dvd of the service, and even personalized thank you cards.
