However, during the shooting experience with Josh, I found that he was more like a long - time friend who was also highly professional. I was pretty nervous about handling and shooting the firearms at first, but the staff there ensured safety by going over their rules and procedures. After being taught how to properly handle the guns, we started shooting different handguns at the paper targets. After feeling comfortable and confident with those, we moved on to using some bigger assault rifles and even got to try out their gatlan gun. When looking for a shooting range in the Reno area, this is exactly what I was hoping for. The outdoor experience is was nicer and more fun in my opinion. The staff here was great at knowing when to help out and when to give you space and let you figure things out on your own. I would 100% recommend this place and will be coming back here the next time i'm in Reno. I would suggest this as one of the safest shooting ranges and perfect for beginners. Years ago I was there when still run by the county and the range master spent more time yelling about everything than actually running the range. NFA staff are friendly, polite and have zero tolerance for range safety issue. Issues are dealt with in a professional, instructive manner. Prices are fair and it has the only long distance rifle course in the area.

Having the open desert behind most shots the depth perception can be slightly challenging (but this is where we hunt so the practice is spot on). The facilities are nice and the trap and skeet courses look solid. The systems use bear boxes with a computer in them, you carry a key card and that tracks your shot. Man I wish they had some space heaters hanging overhead in their outdoor ranges. My hands! LOL The service is straight forward. From stopping in, signing a waiver, picking up some rental items like ear or eye protection--it's all tremendously affordable and under $20. This alone offers a tremendous value. In terms of a selection per se, you can sign up for a membership which ranges from $30-$40 a month depending on the plan or you can go for a single day visit. Adults about $15. From there it's all about the training. From as little as 3 yards to as much as 2000, go for it. Pistols, shotguns, ARs, bring it. They also have some firearms you can rent while you're there at an affordable price (but there's a range fee required when using their firearms). It's a bit of a journey out to head out to Pyramid Way where they're located, but you should consider the journey and training there if you're serious about firearm training and understanding these tools in a wonderful outdoor setting that puts you in the mentality of growing your skill and proficiency. Shout out to Dean who was our Range Safety Officer that day. He was courteous, professional and that's what you want when working with firearms. Check them out!
