Also, I didn't say this before but if you are going to them, and have deposited 50$ (they told me they make everyone do that for appointments), MAKE SURE IT GETS TAKEN OFF YOUR TOTAL AT THE END!!!! Or just don't go. And ask what PH balance # to look for on products, then find them cheaper somewhere else cause again, outrageous prices. They deleted my shared post on Facebook because I commented a picture of my hair faded and said "not goals" to a reply that read "goals" because people should know what they're in for. I felt unwelcome whole time I was there. The girl at the front desk didn't greet at all but just stare at me like "what are you doing here?" I acted dumb and said her shirt was cute and I liked it. Of course she didn't care and said thank you(like whatever). The hair stylists technic was bad at everything. she didn't wash or rinsed bottom half of my hair and I had to ask her to rinse at the end and she sounded upset. I have a lot and thick Asian hair so I know it's hard for American hair stylist to handle. That is why I tried to explain what I wanted, how my hair is and how it's been treated before. But she didn't try to listen. I had hair conditioning treatment too. But right after that, she used hair straightener on my hair to cut it straight without ask. First, I didn't wanna give any damage to my hair. Secondly, I have some wavy hair and some straight hair mixed. So it will look different after shampoo if she cuts them with using hair straighter...so I asked her to try not to use hair straightener for that reason then she just said "no it won't. I'm just making sure it's even." Period. It's a big lie(when I explained it to the manager she agreed with me. It's common sense anyways....) They didn't give me a receipt and never asked me for tip option but just charged me extra for a lot of hair without inform. (I was ready for giving at least some tip if the hair stylist tried or receptionist are nice. But she just gave up and they didn't even ask for tip. I thought it's so rude.) I complained it to my husband and he told me to go back and talk to them. So I went back(of course no greet again) and asked for the receipt. the lady at the front desks was rude whole time. I complained about hair straightener like I was told to do by my husband lol then she said using hair straightener to cut is regular process(no one have done that until they are done with cutting my hair in my life.) I could see that she looked down on me and said whatever she needed to say and just waited for me to get out of there. Then my husband came to stand up for me. We walked in together then she acted totally different. Changed the voice and everything. Called for the manager right away. Manager was nice. She refunded for my conditioning treatment and gave me some treatment product. It was nice of her but that's not what I wanted. my hair still looks bad and my feeling is really hurt. I just wanted to have a good time. I normally think it's just bad customer services but it was too obvious to ignore.....I felt like it was racism and my white husband felt the same. Normally people don't see it because they don't get treated that way. But they treated me aka Asian woman like that. Just for your information. My mother in law recommended this place and gave me a gift card but she wanted me to meet Nick. I didn't know it. So it's my fault that I didn't choose Nick. But anyways, even at the entrance I wasn't comfortable and was ready treated bad so idk. Maybe you will have no problem if you are white. I'm sorry but I mean it. IF YOU ARE GOING BLONDE, beware, they will keep you in the chair for 4+ hours and you will only see a tiny difference because they will tell you that your hair will fall off if they do more at this time. And i mean TINY difference. They said i'd need 5 sessions to go blond from dark brown. I think they do this to make sure you continue to come back for multiple sessions and spend more. I've spent $1200 and had 4 sessions so far and it doesn't sound like i'm even close to where i want to be yet. Christina white salon, my friend got the exact look i wanted from black hair in 2 sessions, and that place is pricey at $500 a session. But at this point i'll be spending more than i would there going to illusions. (Which now i'll be going to christina white, since either way it apparently is going to cost me 2k now just to have blonde hair..rather doit in fewer sessions so i also don't have to walk around with orange hair. This place feels like they are running scams to keep you coming back when it comes to color. I will say though, my haircuts have always been top notch, absolutely fabulous! read more

I booked an appointment with Nichole at Illusions for a balayage and cut. I brought photos and clearly expressed what I wanted. What I left with was anything but. I am growing out a undercut, I fully understood that it wasn't the easiest hair to work with, but she seemed confident. I ended up with a pretty bad cut - nothing was even, I explained I would rather have my hair parted on the left to cover a shaved bit however she cut it in such a way that it only lays right if parted on the right. I'm a brunette and asked for a blondish balayage, this stylist dyed my brown hair...brown and did NOT do a balayage, she gave me barely noticeable copper highlights. I asked for a brow wax and was ignored...all the while I was being sold on $600+ worth of hair extensions. $85 for brown hair to be dyed brown, $70 for highlights that I didn't ask for and $20 for a haircut that looks awful. If she could not do the color or cut she should have said so. I also left a message for the owner and I was never called back. Instead the manager asked me to come in and let them fix it, I didn't ask for that. My hair is too short now to cut and I don't want anyone at Illusions doing anything further to my hair. Period. At this point I only want a refund. Best advice: don't bother with Illusions. For the price they charge you could go to a upscale salon in Clayton. read more

If i could give the salon zero stars I would, with the exception of a few stylists there. The owner is very greedy, I came in on Tuesday March 6th for a color and cut. I wanted to go blonde and already had blonde highlights in my hair. What i got was highlights in silver, blue, orange, yellow, brown. The owner made me pay for the "hard work and the products they used on me" I walked out before they had a chance to fix it, and the following day (Wednesday) I went back in and got it corrected and I'd rate the correction average still have (bright yellow color in my hair) I was promised a hair mask to help me with my damaged hair that was damaged by them having to color correct and bleach, the owner wanted to charge me for that as well. I will never return this place, they "act like" a high end salon but don't deliver high end service. Their prices are average but for the service they provide, way overpriced! I usually do not take the time out of my day to rate someone but considering the fact that they messed up so badly the week of my birthday, made me pay for the awful service, owner wanted to charge me additional for my fix and charge me for a hair mask. I wouldn't rate this salon even a 0. I have seen a couple of bad reviews about clients going into the salon and asking for a service, and them delivering a completely different look. Best word to describe the owner GREEDY! She yelled at the girl who fixed my hair for trying to give me gratis a mask. I didn't take off a star because I have a specific complaint, I took off a star because there was not anything exceptional to elevate them to 5 stars. I was seen about 5 minutes after my appointment time, then I got a simple haircut and a conditioning treatment. The haircut is flattering but nothing amazing. The conditioning treatment was nice and seems to have my hair a touch smoother but the humidity the last few days seems to have undone that. I am low key obsessed with Oribe products and bought several, so my out the door cost was high but I expected it. Oribe is expensive stuff. High alert, . Avoid going here for hair extensions! They used inferior products in the process the second time I had them placed for hair length. The manager will not speak with me unless I post something on social media. The technician ignored my concerns of 30 to 40 strands falling out daily and no length in the back of my head.. The first set of extensions was a quality BellamI brand (lasted a year and a half -with no hair falling out) but it was the second time, that they used a very inferior product (These started deteriorating immediately, were very noticeably shorter in the back and were taken out at nine months even though the technician wanted to move them up at least two more times-that's when I realize this was a money grab) I have both sets of extensions at home and have visual- concrete evidence that they are not the same item as Purchased. The manager promised me the first time I talk to him that he always takes care of situations like this by compensation of hair or dollars . I have been asking since last March 2023 for the situation to be addressed. Anyone can see that the two sets of product are not the same. I drove almost 3 hours based on reviews and after speaking with this salon. I was assured they could "fix" my daughters too dark hair. The blonde is how they "fixed" it. I was charged 280.00. I don't recommend this salon as Mary is very rude. Moreover I never asked for money back ect but when Mary called she left a rude voicemail saying my child's hair looked great after they did it. My friend got married over the weekend and selected Illusions Color Spa for the place where we got our hair and makeup done. She told us that she booked two hours for our entire party (of five bridesmaids, one bride, and one mother) to get hair and make up done. She also said there were other wedding parties that morning. None of us knew how it was all going to go down. Who gets all that done in two hours?! We expected the salon to have the entire staff working on one party at a time, back to back. Instead, the salon opened at 9 with all three wedding parties in attendance. The places was full of people getting wedding hair and makeup done. On top of that, there were even several regulars who were getting hair colored! Our party was done in 1.75 hours. Bam. Color us impressed. The salon even let us set up food and drinks on a back table for our party. We brought in mimosas and bagels. They didn't bat an eye. My stylist was a lovely woman named Lisa who has a angled blond bob that's longer in the front than the back. She did both my hair and make up. I was worried, with Asian hair and all that, that she would have trouble with my slippery, fine hair. I needn't have worried- she said she has cousins who are half-Japanese who had similar hairs so she knew what to do. She was also really receptive to the Pinterest pics I had for my hair style and makeup, and worked around my stubborn side part. Lisa was open but not too talkative, which is perfect cuz some people talk too much and ask too many questions when you just want to zone out that early in the morning. She did a great semi-smokey eye and nude lip; didn't pressure me to buy any product. In fact, when I asked if I should buy the lipstick and lip gloss she used because I've never done nude lip color before, she actually took a moment to think and suggested just the lipstick for touch ups. I thought she was wonderful. For the most part, everyone liked the results of their hair and make up. One bridesmaid didn't really like the lip liner her stylist used and another refused lip color because she preferred her own. Other than that, they did a great job and got us out before time was up. Oh! The hair and makeup also lasted all day and night. I got back to the hotel at nearly midnight and still had to scrub it all off my face. Marian's big pushes were: sell product and low key suggest that the color/cut/service wouldn't look as good without it (because there's a 50%+ markup on product, and the stylists only make 20% of that markup) and to devolve into 'firing' clients who demand that she fix mistakes (I worked for her for a little over a year and that happened 3 times. I changed to Illusions about a year ago - which all you ladies know is a really big deal! I was having some issues with fine and thinning hair, and they have been able to transform my hair into long think locks! Their use of Hair Compound is amazing, and I wish I would have started using them years ago!!! Now the price tag might seem a little high for those products, but I will tell you right now it is totally worth it! Their basic treatments - like color, cut and so on - are decently priced, and actually cheaper then my last guy. I highly recommend them for any hair needs you need. I've been here a few times. First time I got my eyebrows micro-bladed. It was painful, but I knew it was going to be. The gal that did them was super nice and funny. The second time I went back was to get them touched up and it was a similar experience. I went back a month or two after that to get a lash lift. I'm very happy with the results, but not the procedure. My complaint is that I was left alone in the room for 2 sets of 15 minutes while the procedure was happening. The gal that took care of me this time was nice. I understand that the perm has to sit for 15 and the dye has to sit for 15, but it gave me some anxiety to be laying there on the table, no one in the room, and my eyes glued shut. Other people we coming in and out of the room to get supplies while I was laying there during the 15 minute spans. It was a super weird. read more

I discovered Illusions by just clicking around on search engines, looking for a professional, stylish salon in STL while I was visiting for the weekend and found I had the time. I'm so happy I decided to go out on a limb and try it! My stylist, Kristen, turned out to be one of the best I've ever had! She was extremely helpful, open-minded, and knowledgable in every step of the process, from informing me on the products she was using (which were incredible and smelled amazing), to giving me tips on how to style my hair on my own. I got high/low lights and a trim, and we were so excited with the finished product she even gave my hair extra styling to show off the new color :) what a sweetheart. I also liked that Illusions seems to have more of a team-like atmosphere. Kristen consulted a couple different co-workers throughout the process to get their feedback-- you don't see that very often, and I think that added to the positive experience. Maybe the salon is on the $$$ side, but believe me when I say it is 110% worth it! I went back to her a couple weeks ago to style my hair for my brother's wedding and the experience was equally as pleasant. Finally, I think I found my go-to salon in STL! read more

The front desk girls, they are not professional enough to be called ladies. Looked at me like "why is she here". "She doesn't belong here." I felt a lot of racism coming from them. The way they blew me off when I walked through the door. One of the girls threw her hand in the air as to gesture for me to sit over there and wait. The lack of acknowledgment and the way they speak to you is unacceptable. I am a black female and from their attitudes they are not use to black people coming into their shop. I will definitely be writing a letter and taking my compliment and concerns to a higher state level. This was my first time going to Illusions and I cannot say it was a good experience. I came in once and paid a great deal more for my color and cut than ever before and that says a lot seeing as how I've lived in Los Angeles for years. Once home, I noticed that I had horizontal rings of differing colors going around my head about 1/4 of the way down when I lifted up the top layers. For $250 I just couldn't let it slide. Even though the hair I left with didn't resemble the picture I'd shown whatsoever, I'd have been satisfied enough to just have had a thorough and careful dye job without complaint. I wouldn't have ever gone back, but I would have just chalked it up. I went back a few days later though since the color was just so uneven, and another stylist kindly did her best to correct it but she also failed to even my hair out as I've washed it several times now and see my bands are back, just not as severe. She was definitely more experienced and knowledgeable than the first stylist that I'd had before so I'm surprised to still be sitting here writing this negative review. Still, nobody apologized for me having to come all the way back and having to sit again in the chair for a couple hours and nobody mentioned why I wasn't getting corrected by the original stylist (I was grateful to get someone new- It just should have been addressed though). I actually thought I saw the first stylist from the corner of my eye who was dressing up to go to some party after work and she never came over to say hello or apologize for the bad hair color she'd done. It was just altogether strange to me and not a professional experience. I myself am a licensed professional and also after having grown up in my Grandmother's family owned salons, I am knowledgeable of professional standards and this establishment really disappointed me. Back in December I burned a part of my hair by blow drying (yes, sad but true, apparently we can't all be stylists) and as a new Missourian I didn't know who to turn to. So, after reading several reviews of various salons I decided to give Illusions an opportunity. When I called in I specifically made it a point to ask for the BEST expert in hair extensions. Well, I thought that's what I was getting because after my consultation I was told micro links and micro cylinder extensions would be ideal for me. So, I trusted the "expert" and paid 50% up front to order the extensions. Now mind you, I'm not a hair expert as specified with my blow drying skills so I entrusted this salon after reading their reviews. Well, I can say now that was a huge mistake!!!!!!! So, they get me an appt. with Jamie who was supposed to be the "expert" as I had requested from get go (don't get me wrong, she was a sweetheart but I now know she didn't have my best interest). First off, I'd like to tell you that it was the first time I've ever had to get extensions and they Hurt! One of the most important questions I asked specifically and now I know they straight out lied to me was, "will this damage my hair!" I was told by both the consultant (unfortunately, I don't recall her name) AND Jamie that my hair would grow like normal and there would be no damage to my hair. I took them at face value. After 2 hrs. of adding both types of extensions, I noticed that you can actually see the micro cylinder extensions on my head. I didn't hold back and let Jamie know that I wasn't happy at all so she suggested that I add more cylinder extensions to cover it up and give a fuller feel. Needless to say after $900 plus $100 tip later, Jamie asked me what I thought and again I told her I wasn't happy with it. I imagined it to be more discreet as I was told during my consultation. Jamie apologized and suggested that when I return for my 3 wk. appt. she would adjust the ext. lower so they won't be so visible. She also suggested I purchase a boar brush for $30 more to make sure they stay in tact. I get home and my family pointed out that they too can see the extensions. Even at work people started commenting that something was in my hair. It was constantly, "you've got something in your hair," Embarrassed I would say it's just extensions.....I was told someone would call to check up on me and guess what, no one ever did. I was forced to utilize their salon services to get a blow dry because I was told if someone else did it and a piece came out it wasn't there responsibility to fix it. Frustrated and very unhappy I contacted the owner Marian Stones to let her know of my experience. I have to say she replied immediately and let me know that Kay "the expert" on extensions will take care of me and advise what will be best. Instinctively my first reaction was wait a minute, I thought I had asked for the expert and I was given Jamie! Desperate I met with Kay, who immediately suggested she remove majority of the cylinder ext. because they were very visible. Instead of refunding me for the ext that were removed, the salon held them "in my file". Serious!? Do you really think I'll ever use those???? Long story short, a month ago I called to have the staff relay my discontent with my experience to Marian and I've yet to hear from anyone. The extensions have been falling out and what's worse is that my hair has been falling out with it. I turned to this place for help and all I've received were horrible results! If I wasn't a candidate then the consultant should've said something! What makes it unbearable was the fact that I was lied to over and over...... I would never suggest this salon as money means more to them rather than the happiness of their clients. The only reason they get 1 star because it wouldn't let me comment without one. read more

I came in here on Christmas eve wanting to get a haircut and thought I would get the amazing fab haircut that I have so many times before. That did not happen this time. Well, a big part of a haircut for me is using shearing scissors for thick hair. and I asked for that to be done and it was not done. I felt rushed and that everyone wanted to get done as fast as possible and go home for Christmas. my haircut was not complete. It was not until I went home and washed my hair the next morning Christmas Day, and realized, my hair looked horrible. Now getting a bad haircut was bad enough but on Christmas morning? oh I was devastated. I could not believe that this happened at Illusions because its always been an amazing salon. You pay very well here too. So you expect the best! Thankfully I was able to come back to the salon several days later... no charge..and have it semi-fixed by another girl in the salon, I still think both sides are not properly matching. There are some great colorists here I'm sure, but I had a very bad experience... Actually two. I first came here wanting to lighten my hair and even brought a picture. Stylist said no problem and got to work. The end result wasn't anything like the picture but I was told it was because my hair was dark to begin with so there isn't anything they could do(mind you this was after 3+ hours and over $200 after having them redo it and come again the next day to fix it just enough so I could live with myself. A friend asked me if I dyed my hair myself.... Not what I was going for when I spent to much time and money coming here). Came in again 5 weeks later, because they said next time they would be able to give me the desired effect. SO MUCH WORSE and I had the same picture of what I wanted. After finishing color and blow drying me, they told me how great it was and I almost died. The color of oranges mixed with straw. After recruiting help of other colorists my hair was dyed and blow dried 3 additional times and I still wasn't happy with the end result but it is at least something I can live with. One thing that drove me nuts is when they are putting in the toner in, they took my hair and put it between there hands and rubbed it together like they were starting a fire with a stick. I would never do that to my hair because it is so damaging! Keep in mind I went and bought a box of brown hair dye to put on a random loner strand of hair that was driving me nuts because there is no way I can go back in there(again this was over 4.5 hours and almost $200). I can only use oribe shampoo (made sure to tell my stylist) and my scalp and skin around my face was on fire when I left, obviously wasn't the shampoo used( because they were pushing a new line). Although my stylist was clearly inexperienced, there were 2-3 other stylists helping her and just let her botch my hair and would have let me walk out the door lookin a hot mess if I hadn't of said anything. It was a fight, exhausting, expensive, and now I have to live with this until I can schedule an appointment somewhere else. Only schedule an appointment here if you look at their Facebook and find a certain INDIVIDUAL stylist that does great work or see their results first hand. There are inexperienced people here and you run the risk of getting seriously bad results, while still paying an arm and leg. Don't just call up and get the next available appointment! read more

Had a full body massage done today by Lori Cichacki. It was SPECTACULAR!! I highly recommend her.

My color never stayed in my hair. I went back to have it fixed and I got green gray hair then I had them just take out that color. I left disappointed and for the money that was paid I was not happy at all. read more

Went to this salon because of the good reviews I saw on line, first visit I felt the hair stylist went above and beyond but 2nd, 3rd times not at all. For the price of a haircut 40.00 a little pricey but I thought I'll give the place a try, last time I went in for a haircut stylist didn't even give me a mirror to look at the back of my hair (I am picky about my hair and like to see all of it before I leave). Also I callled last week because I had down on my calendar an appointment for June 8th I called the girl answering the phone said I had no appointment for June 8th. So needless to say I won't be going back to Illusions again and have already found a new Hair Stylist to do my hair and she's cheaper. read more
