I like feeling special when I get my hair done, and Salon St Louis does that for me. I also have never had a bad haircut from their stylists. I most recently came in after a disaster. I had tried to save money by going to get my hair cut at one of the discount places; it was a gamble, and I lost. Luckily for me, the stylist at Salon STL was able to fix it for me. I was honestly scared that I would never have normal hair again, and the lovely stylist FIXED IT!!! Huge sigh of relief. I have never had my hair colored there, so I cannot attest to the quality of those services, but I would highly recommend their hair cuts at all stylist levels. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is because it's often hard for me to get an appointment quickly. Stuff you should know: - As long as you have an appointment scheduled for the future, you can come in for a complimentary "crisping" between visits. "Crisping" is basically a touch up for your haircut, a very good idea if you're trying to grow out your hair and want to avoid split ends. - A paraffin wax hand treatment is complimentary during your haircut - Salon STL is closed on Sundays One last note: As in all service-related industries, the attitude of the customer is important. I think that if you are gracious and thankful, and defer to the knowledge of the stylist, you will end up with a good experience every time. I love this place! The neighborhood salon with the perfect prices and conveniently located to me. Prices are from $26 - $42 dollars for a cut, shampoo, and style. It depends on who you get to do it hence why the pricing is not the same. They honestly are very nice people with a great skill that they put to use. All of them are very knowledgeable on how to cut hair and very proficient in it. I like the hand wax that they do to your hands to make them soft after you get your hair washed, it is like an added spa treatment you don't have to pay for. Plus they give you a coffee, tea, or bottled water as complimentary with the visit. I hope to try out their facials and stuff sometime soon, but right now -- when I get my hair cut, styled for a formal event, and eye brows done -- I refuse to go anywhere else. read more

Not being from St. Louis, It was hard to find a place to trust with my hair. I am a guy and bad haircuts go away after a few weeks, but with a slew of important events I needed someone I could trust. Salon STL is that place. I've seen two stylists and both have gone a fantastic job. The experience starts with a shampoo head massage and condition. You can either specify what you want to be as vague as what you think you like. Your stylist will figure it out. No sheers just scissors. Ends with a straight razor neck shave and a great hair cut. I have been going I Cory. She is awesome and if you have a chance I highly recommend. She is very attentive and will Chat if you want or just cut hair. For ladies she also does pedicures and makeup. I've been going to salon St. Louis now for over a year for all my waxing, hair care, and facial needs and I can honestly say I would never go anywhere else. The stylists are professional but fun and easy to talk to and do the best work I've had seen on my hair and face. I get monthly facials and waxing from Dana. As someone who has struggled with acne ( I've gone on accutane and tried hundred of products) my entire life, I was hesitant to spend money on facials I didn't know would work. I'm so glad I was convinced to get the facial treatments. My skin is in the best condition of my life and Dana recommended some amazing products to help keep it that way. It's expensive but much cheaper than a trip to the dermatologist and pharmacy and I have much better results. I also get waxing done from Dana and my eyebrows and facial hair have been kept at bay and look perfect for a month. I'm always happy with the amount of hair she takes off and I always look clean but natural. I get my hair done by Shauna and she always does a spectacular job. She's one of those hair stylists that truly wants you to be happy with your results when you leave. I have very thick, color treated, damaged hair. I'm trying to grow my hair out so when I first went to shauna she asked me about how I wanted my hair to look and she's worked towards that every time. I most recently got my hair ombred with incredible results. She dyed the bottom of my hair blonde with this innovative technique and I'm so happy with the results. I get complimented almost every day on my hair and it's all thanks to shauna. I've been here to get my hair cut several times, mostly due to it's close proximity to my house. Their prices, at least for cuts/trims, seem reasonable (I pay $36 but it depends on the stylist and their level apparently). Not sure what pricing is like for color or other services. I don't know if I just don't have the proper vocabulary or what, but I can never seem to get across what it is that I'm looking for to a stylist. I try to go in with a pretty clear idea of what I want, and a picture if possible, but I always get flustered and feel like an idiot. I've never had a bad cut here, but at the same time I feel like she holds back for fear of doing something I'm not going to like. That being said, after my last visit and a very "meh" cut, I decided I wouldn't be back. I tried this place out for probably close to a year. I have no idea why I continued to go there so long, but it's so hard to find a good salon and I guess I didn't know where else to go. I should have seen the warning signs after my first cut took over an hour. For a basic hair cut. And the whole time my stylist just kept saying "oh, I don't know about this" and "I'm so sorry". Not things you want to hear. I think he was just having a really bad night or something because the haircut wasn't that bad he was just really unhappy with it. I gave him a few more chances, but finally had to sever ties. I also once got a pedicure here. It turned out looking fine, but the pedicure chair is in this tiny room, no bigger than a closet and it was very, very strange and awkward. I definitely would not recommend that. I was very happy with my experience here. Matthew did a great job! I would go as far as to say it's probably my favorite hair cut I've ever gotten. It took me a minute to get used to it because I cut a lot off and I usually like to restyle my own hair, but I love the cut! They give you a scalp massage before washing your hair and it's amazing and also have a complementary paraffin dip for your hands. I'm a student and was given a student discount as well. It is extremely difficult to find someone who can cut curly hair well, but they do an awesome job here. I have been going to Jessica for a couple years now and she is great! The first time I went in she said she 'gets' curly hair and she was right. I have been overly pleased with every haircut I get here and you get free trims in between cuts. I always recommend Jessica to my friends when they're looking for a new hairstylist. I also started going to Salon StL for waxing and have nothing but good things to say about that service too. Having read good reviews about Hunter, we booked with her. She was so unfriendly! She didn't speak to my teenaged daughter ONCE during the appointment. She skipped the paraffin treatment. She cut my daughter's hair 1. less than we asked 2. unevenly. What was supposed to be a pleasant day out became very uncomfortable. We will NOT return to Hunter again. Yesterday I learned that a.bigger salon doesn't always mean better. I went to this salon with the intention of getting an up do for my wedding. I had a little picture with me, and it looked simple, but admittedly i have thin/fine hair. Instead of maybe telling me this isn't a good idea at this point, the stylist (Kelsie?) Says she can do it, but is sighing,.hands shaking, etc. I could already tell this wasn't going to go well. It didn't. My hair ended up being teased to give it volume like we were in 1986. I didn't like it. My maid of honor didn't like it. Not knowing what to do, I gently told the stylist that my hair was too frizzy for me (it looked like when small children fall asleep with beautiful hair styles, and wake up 2 hours later after a beautiful nap. At this point, my maid of honor and I exchange awkward text messages. I quickly come to the realization that my hair on my wedding day is just going to be f#$ked. I just let it go and go pay. Back at the station where.my maid of honor is getting her hair done, she asks me.if I'm ok with my hair. At this point I'm 99 percent done, but I just tell her it's ok. This is when is it gets really WILD! The stylist who had done my jank looking hair comes over and starts literally yelling at us because we texted in front of her and we were being "unkind". Apparently this entire situation is my fault because I did not get a consultation. After her fit, she then offers to fix my hair. As if I'm going to have the same angry lady style my hair poorly twice. Honey...if you can't do hair then you can't do hair. Against my better judgement, I still paid and tipped this lady. I should have just been the Karen that I know I can be. I left the salon crying and I called my normal stylist who isn't currently doing hair due to Covid. She begrudgingly accepted to do my hair, so I had to spend the drive home digging a ton of poorly placed pins out of my hair. I then had to wash out the bank style, etc. The hair stylist who was out of commission due to Covid, fixed my hair in 30 minutes, charged 20 bucks and it looked 1 thousand percent better than the original, much longer style. read more

I called on a whim after a really stressful week, and they were able to get me in with Jessica that evening for a 60 min facial and lash tint, in the new aesthetics room. Jessica was just delightful. She has a nice light touch, calming demeanor, listened to my needs and explained what she was doing. Her transitions were smooth and the whole treatment was soothing and relaxing. Instead of the typical spa music, classical piano was played, which was a nice change of pace and better suited to the older building's character. The products, all Dermatologica, smelled fantastic and left my skin looking and feeling great. Upon first moving to St. Louis six months ago, I had a horrifying experience where a girl who referred to her own hair cut as "the beibs" chopped four inches off of my hair when I only asked to have a trim, and cut noticable chunks out. Since that trauma, I have been hesitant to even get my hair cut in this city. I finally broke down and went to get my bangs trimmed at Salon St. Louis. When I arrived at Salon St. Louis, I had to stand in the doorway because three children and their mother were taking up the only seats in the tiny waiting room. The one girl who checked me in for my appointment was not friendly, and extremely unorganized. After waiting for 25 minutes, the hairdresser, named Suzi said she was ready for me. Having never been to her before, I assumed she would be warm and friendly, however I was mistaken. I think she was hungover... She was rude, she did not listen, and she looked like a wreck. After repeatedly explaining that I simply wanted my bangs trimmed and even after telling her about my horrific experience getting my hair cut a few months ago, she chopped them off. I mean, she completely cut all of my bangs off. They are noticeably uneven. I asked for swooping bangs, and she cut them straight across. They are so short, they stick up. Do you know how embarrassing it is to go into work looking this ridiculous? I would not recommend this place. Do not go here. read more

Jo did such a good job, now years later I can't bring myself to go anywhere else. Even tho I get scolded for doing my own haircolor! :) It always smells sooo good. I love all the product lines they carry. The staff is super awesome, and they are always busy, i.e. they are all very talented. Back in mid-November I started a search (on Yelp) looking for place to have my hair styled in St. Louis for a NYE wedding. Several places were (understandably) closed on this holiday. Salon St. Louis willingly booked me. I was happy. One week before the wedding, they leave me a voice mail that they need to "reschedule" my appointment as they would be closed that day. Ummm, reschedule a hair styling for an out of town guest, that was scheduled on New Year's Eve? Sure, I'll come in Monday. I'll look great for the flight home. Anyway, I completely understand them wanting to be closed on a holiday, I just wish they were more professional and had figured that out earlier so I could have tried to find something else. read more

I loved my hair stylist Lyndy who I felt was very real and professional with me. She understood what I wanted and gave me a great haircut. I'm still searching for a great hair stylist in St. Louis - unfortunately I didn't find it here. My haircut was good, but the experience itself was sort of off. They did the whole get the neck and back of your shirt wet thing when they washed my hair, which just served as an unpleasant reminder for the rest of my evening. My stylist wasn't all that receptive to my needs (low maintenance, short bangs because they grow wicked fast). I realize I'm in the minority in that I don't style my hair, but I don't get why that is so hard to understand. The most frustrating thing was that a scalp massage was advertised on their website as part of the haircut, but this wasn't even hinted at the whole time I was there! I will gladly suffer through a bad haircut if a good scalp massage is included in there somewhere - I've done it before. I also don't know what this "in-depth consultation" they're talking about consisted of. Oh well, I'll be off to somewhere else in 8-10 weeks I guess. read more

I had the worst pedicure here of my life. The pedicure station didn't seem clean and there were really few polish colors to choose from. I chose the least offensive color. You could barely see the polish, and my feet really didn't look like I just had a pedicure at all. My technician was wearing a shirt that was so low cut, you could pretty much see everything, including a weird silver ball thingy that she placed between her boobs. It was awkardd. The color didn't turn out anything like what I wanted and my hair was actually a different color on the top than it was on the bottom. It was brassy on the top and ashy on the bottom. The staff were like "it looks great!" but it looked terrible!! A big waste of time and money and I am still trying to get my hair back to the way it looked before. I give it a meh. The place is cool. Lots of hipsters and tattoos, hard wood floors, and close to just about everything. I had my hair cut there a number of times, and it was just ok. They don't really style your hair, so I usually ended up walking out of there with a frizzy mess. That being said, they do cut your hair pretty well, and I LOVE the paraffin wax you get on your hands while getting your hair cut (just make sure your nose doesn't itch because you won't be able to scratch it once the wax is on your hands).
