I've been with I love kickboxing for about 6 months before starting the #6WeekChallange. I originally joined the club to get ready for my military PT test. I hate running, so I had to get my cardio up. (I ended up doing really well, btw.) I'm pretty active (besides running, lol), I have been doing a lot of strength/weight training and I eat fairly healthy. I've was gaining weight (muscle mass) but not losing any body fat. So I decided to start the #6WeekChallenge to kick my butt in gear. It was definitely a challenge. Adjusting to the meal plan the first week was difficult; I was hungry about 99% of the week, but I lost 3lbs and 2% BF that week. The second week, I had no changes in my results, and I was extremely frustrated. (There were a few weeks where I didn't have any changes. ) After talking with the instructors, I adjusted my meal plan a bit to help out. By the 3rd-4th week, I still wasn't seeing the results I wanted, so I talked to some of my fitness friends for additional tips and I had to adjust my meals again. And because I wasn't eating very few carbs, I was unable to sustain my strength workout with weights, I just ended up doing a lot of body weight workouts and adding in more cardio (besides the 3-4 kickboxing classes per week). But I ended up losing 14 lbs and almost 8% body fat!! I was weak, tired, and hungry most of the 6 weeks and there were many moments I wanted to quit and just go eat a Cinnabon, but I'm glad I kept to it and am extremely proud of my results. Although, I know some of the weight I lost was muscle mass. Rather than recommending whether or not to join the club or the 6 week challenge, I'll state my pros and cons. Pros: 1. The instructors are AMAZING. They are very helpful and patient. And the push you when you THINK you can't or just don't want to do the work. 2. The other members/challengers are awesome. They are very encouraging, share tips, and are willing to be an accountability partner whenever asked. 3. Class times are accommodating, for the most part. There are classes later in the evening on most days, for those of us who work during the day. Cons: 1. The club and the challenge are really expansive, even with a military and member discount. 2. The club itself (Tacoma anyways) smells like stinky feet. (Until you get used to it.) 3. The punching bags are well used, it would be nice if they were updated. 4. Challenge specific; if you are fairly fit and don't really have the weight/body fat to lose, it's really difficult to be successful without doing additional things aside of the challenge itself. read more

If you're looking to increase the intensity of your workouts - this is the place! It's tough, but moves fast and you will feel it. Pros: friendly snd encouraging staff, modify things for new people, excellent full body work out Cons: high pressure sales pitch, and it's too expensive and not a flexible membership. $125/month and sign up for a year. If they had a punch card or a month to month - it would be much more doable. But if you aren't working out 3x a week every month. It's just too expensive for what you're getting. If you weren't committing to a year up front - it would be better. If they had a 10 punch card option- that would be helpful- but I also don't want to pay for 100 punches at once. They need more flexible membership types. read more

I was excited to start a new exercise program with I Love Kickboxing Tacoma. I signed up in August 2018 for a year long contract for $1595. Along the way, I need to stop due to personal reasons but continued to pay the monthly fees because that is what is signed up for. I went to class for 2 months only. I had just paid the last $145 for my agreement and when I called member solutions (their billing company) to cancel they said I still owed money for another month and I should contact my local studio to resolve. The response I received was: Thank you for reaching out to me here. I can see where the confusion is. Your TOTAL membership cost for the 12 month was $1740. You paid $145 of that in studio. The remaining $1595 as you see on the billing agreement is what you owed to the billing company. Your final payment of $145 on July 3rd will fulfill the $1595 owed to Member Solutions. This was never said or made clear when I signed up. The only contract I signed was one for $1595 and not for $1740. I feel like I got scammed. I know that I was scammed. If this is a policy they should make it clear and give you a copy of that. I have recommended ILK to a few friends; one did the Federal Way class. In the end, i am sickened by throwing this money away, but more so the scam. Stay clear read more

My fiancée signed up for kickboxing. A month and a half into it, we later found out she was pregnant. She no longer could participate in the activities. She had emailed a note from the doctor stating she could no longer continue. Then sent in a disability form From the doctor as well. TIL this day they are charging her knowing she can't go to any of the classes. These people literally profiting off the unexpected and thriving on it. They have zero understanding and all they see is $$$, $130 a month for classes she can't even attend. Worst place to do business. Quick update, they reply to my review to either make themselves look good or to make other people think they are handling the situation. They are still charging a 5 month pregnant woman who is incapable of doing kickboxing. They are currently having a collection agency to collect the money. I would advise people to not do business with people like this. As you can see all they really care about is the money and they will collect anyway possible whether you are pregnant or become disabled. Just horrible. read more

Update: this gym has become a second home to me. Everyone there genuinely wants to see me succeed and help me have fun while pushing myself. I just completed a 6 week challenge and couldn't be more happy with the results and most importantly the lifestyle it gave me. I love this gym. It is a little on the spendy side when you sign up but I have definitely spent way more on personal trainers who don't give a crap or motivate me the way this team does. They are in a sales position and will obviously try and get new clients but not once did i feel feel pressured at all and in fact was told if i signed up that day I would get the 9.99 back that I paid for the 3 class promo. I actually ended up getting hand wraps so they credited that instead of going through the hassle of a refund. And they were super flexible with my first payment. Literally everyone there is amazing but shout out to Trina who helped me in my first class and got me all signed up for my member read more

First time I walked into to ilovekickboxing, not gonna lie, it was a little overwhelming and intimidating. But after my first class I instantly joined the ilovekickboxing family. The staff there are super friendly and upbeat. Unlike any other gym or fitness places I've had memberships at, the staff here makes you feel special, they remember you by your name and don't annoy you with sales calls. I've been a member since March and make it to at least 3 times week. I can see and feel myself getting stronger and more fit. The instructors makes the hour go by super quick and I'm always drenched in sweat. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for something new and exciting, cause let's be honest, running on a treadmill is not fun. read more

TLDR: If you want a great workout but think what's really missing from a workout is the feeling you get when you visit a used car sales lot, this is your jam. It's a great workout. The staff are highly motivating. Sounds perfect... until this happens: You've bought the cheap groupon and just finished your first class and feel completely out of gas and proud that you knocked that workout out. Then comes the sales push. You sit down with an instructor, who offers you an incredibly bad deal. $125/month for a year for the cheapest package. For some people, this is a good deal, but the problem is that you bought a two week pass on groupon and this is a limited time one-day offer and if you don't sign up this instant you won't get that offer and if you end up liking the class, your monthly payments will be even higher. You feel pressured. You got a great workout. You think it must be worth it because you're so exhausted. You cave because your brain isn't functioning at 100%. Think of it like if you had to run a half marathon before car shopping. You could be talked paying double for any car on the lot with how well your brain is operating. You realize that the schedule is impossible to attend because the last class is too early in the evening. You pay off your contract in full because you can't go and you hold off on reviewing it because you think you're fine. Then you get autorenewed. And asked to pay over $1000 for that courtesy. By a billing system run by a complete third party. You take a few days to figure out how to get yourself out of this scheme, and finally break free of the incredible monthly dollar commitment. You then decide it's time to post a review. I did this and then came the hounding. I was called, texted and emailed by management (all within minutes of each other) to see what they could do to make me take the review off. Somehow it was my fault for not quite getting all the nuances of how the financials work out (remember, you learn this after you are drop dead exhausted). It's an icky way of getting members and I guarantee they know it but it's protocol and explain that it's "to incentivize people to join the family." Or it's a psychological tactic because you know that's the best time to rope someone in with and take advantage of weak resistance. Take your pick. If you're willing to pay $125 to $150 per month for your choice of 3-4 time slots of cardio workouts per day, then join. If you think that maybe your money is better spent at a place with more classes, better hours and a third of the price, you should probably look at the Y. read more

Ilovekickboxing has completely given me my confidence back! I have struggled with my weight/exercise for years. I was so nervous to attend my first class...but let me tell you I am SO HAPPY i followed through and went! I immediately felt comfortable and welcomed by the instructors and the other members! I have been kickboxing 4-5 times a week for the last month and have noticed changes in my body, my strength, and i can now officially say i am flexible enough to touch my toes! :) I highly recommend to come join the family! read more

Save your time and money. This is a con. The free gloves only happen if you sign up for a program. They lure you in just to upsell you. It's outrageously expensive and all of their people appear to do it just for money although they try to say it's because they like what it does. The three star review is only given for the staff. I love them all. I'd give them a five IF this was based solely on them. Unfortunately it's not. As a member possessing a significant amount of time, I've seen a lot of ish come and go. The turn over is ridiculous. And difficult. The instructors cycled out seem to have a couple months experience as members and the instructors that stick it out and know their ish leave or shut down. As a human working for a franchise I see and understand why. The owner literally has no passion for the industry, and is obviously money hungry. Again, I work for a franchise. I built my shop, literally, from the ground up. I didn't even have walls to show a potential applicant when I was building my team, so I know EXACTLY what it takes. But that is neither here nor there. From a members stand point: it downright enrages me that there aren't enough time slots or instructors already, but now, for $145/month, two classes are being cut for "challengers"? Um. No. I pay for my membership. Monthly. And unfortunately it's like a car payment or mortgage. I literally cannot get out of it without first sacrificing my livelihood. And even then. I have to Santeria a hopeful outcome. I do not appreciate having my instructors taken from me for people whom don't even follow through and participate, just to complete a challenge WE ALL KNOW was not a corporate enforced or even suggested. It was a fiasco created to get the upfront payment from shallow minded people. The owner isn't present and when she is, the entire atmosphere is clouded. I love Name drop, name drop, name drop, Name drop, and Name drop. I love Name drop, name drop, and Name drop, unfortunately I feel as if the owner, deliberately took advantage of their kindness and determination, and takes advantage of what I am guessing was a financially stable family, leaving either the oldest, loneliest, or only child, a small fortune at a cost. In conclusion. The instructors are with it. The work out may be worth it, if you have a stupid life schedule. Ie, who, THE EFF WORDS, has the time to work out at 4 on a Tuesday or Thursday? (Btw, Thursday 630 and 745 were cut for members so "challengers" had the spot to themselves. Hey Kelly. Hint. Open another hour OUTSIDE of your scheduled hours, for your so called challengers (I like to call them victims) so the people who PAY can go to class.) Do your intro. Meet your trainer. And move on. The work out is worth it for a hot one. The lack of compassion from the owner drips down to not only the staff (who somehow someway manage to maintain a positive vibe) but the long standing members. I've been considering cancelling for quite some time. The only reason I haven't is due to name drop x6. But. I have my coach now. So. Peace out when my contract is up. I came here looking for a moderate workout to lose about 10#. When i told the guy that was doing my intake that he asked "why only 10#"...EXCUSE ME? Because that is where i am comfortable and the size all of my clothes are. I was completely dumbfounded by that comment. Such a rude thing to say. Nevertheless I already bought this stupid Groupon, so here we go. Why not give it a shot? I am almost 40 and I thought I was going to DIE at this class. Burpees? Oh hell no. Running?? No thanks. I was looking for a workout that wouldn't kill me, but would get that extra 10# off. Kickboxing was NOT the right fit for me. I left in the middle of class wheezing and gasping and couldn't stop coughing for an hour. It bothered me that they have NO beginner class. You are just thrown to the wolves. As if that weren't bad enough...they announce the new people at the beginning of the class. Cool. Thanks for singling me out, makes me feel super comfortable. It was pretty much cardio for most of the class. I didn't even make it to the punching or kicking of anything. I just left. Now they won't stop calling my phone. I completed the 6 week challenge with ILKB Tacoma and gained more than I ever expected. In the 6 weeks I went to 23 classes, lost 10.5lbs, lost 2" and 6% body fat. What I lost is great and makes me feel good, but the best part is what I gained. I gained friends and family that lift each other up and are such a support for everyone around them. I gained a better understanding of what my body truly needs when it comes to food and did it without any diet pills or gimmicks. With such unbelievable support from the ILKB Tacoma team I found my self confidence and my strength. I conquered the challenge and joined the family! Do NOT get a membership here!!! Absolute waste of time and money. I got a membership here in March of this year and went to about 5 classes. Shortly after I injured my shoulder and have been unable to go. I have spoken to almost every person on staff, all of them sending me to "membership solutions" (their billing company?) to help me and I have only been bounced around from person to person with absolutely nothing being solved. I have provided every document they have asked for and answered every question. It has now been 5 months, I have been charged every single month and have not been to a class since april. I am still battling with them and have had NOTHING resolved. I have recently heard of many people with the same issue and one in a lawsuit because this company refuses to work with their members. I sincerely regret ever coming here and wish I knew about these problems beforehand. read more

I've been going about 3 weeks now and about 4 times a week. Each class I see improvements in my strength and my abilities and most importantly My overall outlook on life. Instructors are incredibly positive and give directions without making you feel dumb. I have not had a class yet that didn't challenge me and didn't fully enjoy. the clientele are men and women of all ages and abilities, all sizes, and the thing that stands out is each person always has a smile on their face. Review of actual workout: 5 stars. It is a hard workout. The staff are super supportive. And the other members are amazing. Review of the membership process: 1 Star BEWARE OF CANCELATION PROCESS. You need to give 30 days written notice to Member Solutions to cancel. They will not remind you and it will automatically renew. Keep your contract. I broke my ankle in three places and even with a clause in the contract allowing me to cancel with a disability, the Member Solution company was a nitpicky, rude, and condescending. It took me a month to resolve the issue, even with a physician filling out the required paperwork. I am very thankful for the managers of the Tacoma branch for working with me to solve the issue. However, the behavior of the member solutions staff reflects poorly on this gym, as they have chosen to associate and relay on their services. So absolutely join this gym, but be vigilant and careful about your membership contract. read more

IIKB is an amazing workout. I always feel very awkward going to the gym. However, IIKB makes me feel at home and comfortable. The instructors work with you. The instructors are so knowledgeable and helpful. I want to attend every class. The facility is super clean and nice. The people I have met there are really awesome. It is a group dynamic that motivates you and cheers you on. Everyone encourages each other. I cannot wait to attend the class each day. It is by far my favorite place to go to for a great work out. I went to my first class today because my friend has a membership. I did not know what to expect since I usually just hike or do cardio at a gym nearby. Oh my gosh what an amazing full body workout!!! I felt incredibly supported by the staff and other people working out. I'm a pretty slow learner/awkward turtle when learning new things. I've been a member here since April 2016. Early this morning someone decided they needed my kickboxing gear more than I did. My window was shattered, and two pairs of gloves & my new hand wraps were gone. I was probably more mad about that than I was the window! I had literally just gotten a pair of new gloves, because they were a higher weight. These gloves were limited release thru the studio, so getting a pair was first come, first serve. I write on the gym wall, thinking maybe I can order a pair thru corporate. I am messaged less than 15 minutes later by Bill Ilkb Jividan telling me "We got you covered, the owners insist. I'll have new gloves for you today." Not only did they give me a new pair of gloves, they also insisted on giving me a pair of hand wraps as well. After class Ilkb Stephanie Helbling tells me she needs to talk to me for a second. She gets another member & I and begins to tell us how much of an inspiration we are to her, and how she watches us crush our goals.. Basically she made me cry! I could not ask for a better gym to be apart of! ILKB Tacoma is owned and operated by some of the most humble, and down to earth people I have ever met. The trainers actually care about your progress, and your goals. I can't say enough great things about this place. I have been struggling to find a workout that is right for me. I struggled to keep on muscle, to lose fat, to remain consistent and have proper accountability. One day I was blessed...iLoveKickboxing came into my work to tell us about their programs and I was instantly intrigued. I looked over their website, videos, read reviews and eventually sucked it up and decided to try a class. After my first class, I was HOOKED. I had no previous experience and during my first class they worked with me individually to show me proper form. This team is amazing! I full heartedly believe in this business, the vision behind it which is to make a difference for people and their health, the crew holds a huge accountability and I love that they call me wishing me a happy anniversary and see how I'm doing with the program. This environment is so different than being in a gym. This place makes me feel 100% comfortable and is very community/family oriented. I take unlimited classes which yes is the most expensive but they have a ton of plans available, will work with you, and I'm happy here! I have met such amazing instructors and participants through this. Im kissing my gym good-bye and saying hello to that forming new flat belly! This place is exactly what I've been looking for and I bet if you try one class, you'll be hooked too! They also offer great health tips and offer a great range of events and activities to keep the ILKB family involved. SCAM ALERT! Don't waste your money! Inflexible dates/times and full classes meant I was unable to take the introductory class and my offer expired. I had to call the studio several times and leave multiple messages before I got a hold of someone to schedule a class. (I travel a LOT for work and thought I'd be able to take classes whenever my schedule allowed. Not true.) I bought the "First Time Starter Pack" and before you attend class, you have to do their Introductory Class. The introductory classes are only offered set two days/week at set times. The classes were always booked and I was forced to schedule a MONTH in advance. With my ever changing work/travel schedule, by the time the date came around I was forced to be somewhere else. I called to get a refund and was told it had to go through email. I emailed and was told I had to send to ANOTHER email. By the time I finally reached the right email to cancel, I was told the 6-month period ended and they wouldn't give me a refund. I've taken classes at REAL boxing gyms, kickboxing studios, and other gyms and never had anything like this happen. This place is a scam and I recommend you spend your money with a good/competent/honest fitness studio. read more

I do not recommend doing any business with this company unless you're loaded with cash. Back in March, I bought a 3-class trial for $19.99. After my first class, I was pressured by a staff member into signing up for a year long membership. I regretfully went ahead and signed up, but a day later went back to the Tacoma location to cancel because it was just not affordable for me as a college student. A staff member informed me that since I had cancelled within the 3-day grace period, there would be no problems refunding me the $145 I had paid for the month. The staff member I worked with assured me that my refund would be processed the next day and they'd give me a call when they'd done this. Well, a week later and no call and no refund. I called again and I was once again assured that they'd fix my problem. They didn't. I called again a few days later and they told me to send an email describing the issue so they could get it fixed. I sent that email in April. It is June, and I still have no refund. I visited the location once again and pressed the staff that I need the refund I was promised. May I mention it is June 15th, and I requested the refund face to face with a staff member April 2nd. I just called the Tacoma location again and was sent to voicemail. I am extremely disappointed with the sloppiness and lack of care ILKB shows customers. In conclusion, I took one class (I paid for 3 with the incentive trial, mind you this is separate from the $145 I was charged) and they kept my $145, despite my many calls, emails, and in-person visits to the Tacoma studio. Needless to say, I am pissed. Do not do any business with ILKB unless you've got cash to blow, because they are serious scammers. read more

Although I was anxiously anticipating the opening of the Tacoma location, admittedly, I was also nervous. Years ago I tortured myself with a kickboxing class at a local gym and found myself wildly punching at the bag unable to follow the instructor's direction. I was fearful I'd experience the same here. Boy was I wrong!! From the moment you walk in the door, the energy is contagious. The music is blaring and you are enthusiastically, yet sincerely, greeted by the staff. Furthermore, the gym smells and looks clean. This is important to me. Lockers are provided along with free, filtered water. Plus, I've met great people during class. The friendly, outgoing nature of the instructors naturally rubs off on the students. Be prepared, the workout is intense (especially the warm up) but the hour flies by leaving you craving more! The instructors continuously walk through the room surveying form and kindly providing helpful tweaks ensuring you are getting the most out of the workout. After my first class, I was hooked! I find myself excitedly sharing my experience with friends and inviting them to join! If you are looking for a FUN, intense, empowering, challenging yet doable, unique workout, I love kickboxing is for you! read more

First off, this is home for me now. I moved to Tacoma all the way from Chicago about 8 months ago knowing only my military boyfriend that brought us here for the move. I had always been active even throughout college as a varsity level athlete. I knew somebody from school who had joined, fell in love with it, and ended up working for ILKB because she loved being there so much! When I asked her about it, she had nothing but praise for it. While of course I took it with a grain of salt thinking it was like a used car salesman just trying to get more people there, I got one of the ever occurring web special so I had 5 classes for 8 dollars. I mean why not? Even if it sucked, it was only 8 dollars. I was missing having friends and turning into a total "I'll workout later" couch potato and for the first time in my life figured out what "Out of Shape" meant for me. I was ballsy and took the earliest 6 am class on a Monday. Again, if it sucked, at least I got it out of the way for the week. After the first 15 minutes of cardio boot camp basically, I was already set. Then came even more love during stretching which admittedly I hadn't done since I had physical therapy from back surgery less than a year prior. Then the fun part of beating up the bag began and I knew that it would work for me. I signed up for a year long membership right after class. The atmosphere is amazing, I didn't know anybody day 1 of class, and by the end of the first week people were already talking to me by name. If you want to have a place that you actually WANT to workout and make a positive difference in your life... just try it! There are people in better shape, worse shape, and right at your fitness level there...I promise. And even the ex-varsity athletes are getting their asses kicked during class. read more

Went in for the 6-week free fitness with my sister and the people were AMAZING!! They were very open and friendly but also seemed a little pushy. We talked and decided it would be something we would like and they told us it would be a $500 fee. At the time my sister and I didn't have $500 so we put $100 to save our spots. Well not long before the first class we were unable to continue. For 3 days we tried everything to get ahold of someone but it felt like we were being ignored. We called the building over and over again. I even went as far as to send an email to who I believed to be a manager, but I got no response for email either. Finally after 3 days got ahold of someone and talked to them. We were informed that we could not get the $100 back but they didn't inform us that they would be taking the $400 from us even though we didn't take a single class. I completely understand if they take money to pay for the meal prep paper, but the least they could do just get a hold of one of us or answer us back and talk about our options before they just take our money out of our bank accounts for classes that we didn't take. read more

Love this place! Instructors are knowledgeable and help you use correct form so you don't hurt yourself. By the same token, if you are injured or have a limitation they don't push past what you can reasonably do. The gym is amazingly clean (which is good since you do this barefoot!). Things are always upbeat, so even when I start in a bad mood I end on a high note. I noticed a change in my upper body strength almost immediately and about a week later felt significant improvement in my core as well. The music is rockin' and the other students are amazing. My favorite is the partner drills at the end. Looking forward so much to 007 night!! Lose one star for no Sunday classes, but otherwise the schedule is pretty awesome too. read more
