There isn't a lot of info on their website about drop ins, so I just reached out via email ahead of time to let them know I was coming. They have the coolest t-shirts from american apparel too! I feel like I would drop in again just to get another shirt! The programming was awesome and I got a great workout in! They have fantastic equipment and it's all in wonderful condition. You can tell they take pride in their gym. There is plenty of parking in their lot too, which is always a concern in the urban areas. Just in the midst, I have been debating over where to re-join at a gym to start working out [hopefully commit....] it was only a $5 fee for UWT students to attend an orientation and to go in twice a week for I think it was a month or so. I went to the orientation, no one but myself showed up.. kind of embarrassing. When I first stepped in, I felt like Plankton from Spongebob... I was scrawny compared to these extreme work-out people... even the ladies were muscled-up. Since I was by myself, it was more one on one orientation which gave me more space to ask questions and such. I think the person's name was Morgan? Maybe.. I don't remember~ he took me around and showed me the different exercises Crossfit involves. I was really excited to try this out. After the orientation it was a couple weeks after that I attended my first actual session. WOW... I am exercise-impaired, literally... I cannot properly work out for some odd reason despite being "out of shape". It was super embarrassing that I was so slow and had to use a pipe compared to others who had pretty heavy weights attached to their bars. I don't know if Crossfit is exactly what I am looking for when it comes to working-out but definitely I am proud of myself for giving it a go. But just a bit too intense for my level. The trainers and people at the session were super friendly and understanding about my lack of skills and was patient with me as I struggled embarrassingly... back and forth across the gym... with the weight sled thing dragging behind me (:

After 4 weeks of TKD I dropped about 10lbs, started to regain my balance, and started to feel/look much healthier. All of the students (all belt colors) are very welcoming and you'll see pretty quickly that your belt status doesn't matter socially, it's all about challenging yourself and seeing your own improvements each week. Master Choi and Master Larson are full of knowledge and have answered all of my questions on how to improve flexbility, technique, strength, etc. We need more fun, spirited, energetic adults on the mats, so get in there! My child was hugged within a day of attending her first lesson by Lead Master Choi. She gave me a…read morepanicked look, so I explained to him he must first ask her permission to touch or hug her. His hugging and arm/head rubbing felt like a violation to her. Mr. Choi was not my child's instructor while there. Her instructor uses (like other coaches instructors) fist bumps for acknowledgments. On the second incident, I told him he must ask her for permission to receive any kind of affection from her. The very next lesson the Lead Master told my child to hug him, and I was forced to inform him that a command is not asking for permission. He began to ignore her completely, perfectly fine with me. However, I began noticing how this over 6' tall man often pulls many girls and boys in against his body for a hug of affection. I withdrew my child from lessons at this location.

The entire team here is incredible and the members are awesome as well. We have both done personal training (my trainer was Kam) here and learned a lot and we go to the Sunday class most often . Ascent is both welcoming and accommodating to folks of all identities and abilities and of all sizes. As someone with concerns about environments that can foster an environment where counting calories and weighing in are encouraged or emphasize is put on size, Ascent is the exact opposite. Ascent is a wonderful unicorn place where people can go just to learn how to better move their bodies and grow stronger and find victories that have nothing to do with size- like hiking longer distances, or having less back pain, or being able to lift more. They always offer alternative exercises to meet people where they're at which is super refreshing. They also host so many great events and series classes like queer inclusive self defense. We drive from a fair distance away because the community here is so much better and they have a mission you can't help but support. By far the best collective group of humans I've met since moving to Washington and that is such a testament to the owners Luca and Katie!

The…read moretrainers are down-to-earth and supportive, the environment is friendly and encouraging, and the workouts kick my butt every time. The focus at this gym is functional fitness, so you do a variety of exercises each time you go--including crawling, get-ups, weights (and body weight exercises), lunges, etc. I also love that the trainers will give plenty of modifications as needed, as I'm limited in shoulder mobility due to an injury. Their main format is small group classes, but personal training and open gym hours are also available. Which works for me, became I'm way more accountable when I'm in a class anyway! I've gotten noticeably stronger since I first started, which has helped me not only in my work and at home, but with my self-confidence overall. Exercise really is the best self care. I have been with Crunch for just shy of a year. I really like the vibe, and overall it is a great…read morespace. I gave it a 4, not for anything major, and its more personal. I am one of those that has to keep taking runs at the gym, need to go, but find it intimidating, and fairly easily talked out of gym day. If you are a gym person, that won't bug you and it is probably 5 stars all the way. One of the reasons I joined here were there classes, and what seems to happen every time i join some place for the classes, they cancel classes. They still have a LOT of classes, and if you are into yoga, and variations of that, you will LOVE this place. I do not... Their Hiit classes are getting more popular, and I am sure they are great, I am not ready to do them, not even close, but the problem, for me, is when they are going on, you can't use the Hiit zone, which is easily a 1/3 of the gym floor. This is not a big space, they have used the space efficiently, but when you lose a good portion, its cramped. and also, my favorite things to do, the things that get me to the gym are in the Hiit zone, so class days, no zone, but also, space isnt available, so that means that the hard cores are crammed together competing for space, so those that might be more inclined to use the free weights etc. are backed up, so they park on the circuit machines, basically that means that I am not getting a work out in because I (and others like me-yes there have been discussions) rely on the consistency of the circuit, and the fact that i have zero idea how to replicate on the other machines, that are packed any way. so I go find the one thing i can do, get frustrated (this is on me, i know, but iykyk, if you don't you can't understand) and just bag it. Then go to the massage chairs, the membership is worth those chairs. Generally don't have too many issues there other than basic common courtesy form other members. The area is for upgraded membership, has tanning beds, red light saunas and a stretching mat area and 4 massage chairs. back to the classes, they have cancelled pretty much every class that I enjoyed, and the reason i joined, so no classes for me until i get to a point that i can literally survive hiit, but, based on the amount of people in these classes, they are full by the time i look at them, so that's probably not going to happen either. The locker rooms (women's - haven't seen the mens) is small, uncomfortable, and poorly designed, I think most people, literally use it as a place to put their things, there is 2 small tiny benches, and more than 2 people in there and it genuinely feels uncomfortable. The showers are awful. There is no place to hang a towel, or your bag...just don't join thinking showering after your workout or workout shower, get ready for work is going to be a thing. some do, but not many, because, i believe there intent was they didn't want that. Never got my shirt for joining, not sure why that sticks in my craw, but it does lol. I did the quick start with a trainer, that was a waste of time, there only goal is to sell you training. I just want to know how to use the equipment, i can barely afford this membership, but I am trying, but I was never shown things, just pushed to buy a training package. I just wish that my membership allowed more assistance vs. just access to the business. so, i hope you can see why i gave 4 not 5, it's just how it works for me. I tell people all the time about it, and overall I think it is a great gym, space to workout.

When is the YMCA going to be open on Sunday? Funny how the rates have gone up although there are…read morefour less days that you are able to use the YMCA. I don't think COVID has anything to do with being closed on Sunday, pretty sure it's being used as an excuse. Lots of members will be joining other facilities that are open on Sundays. They will start loosing members which is very sad. This is very Important for people's mental health.
