Wow, I absolutely loved this meal. The curry fired on every single cylinder: spice, savoriness, creaminess, packed with vegetables. A friend and I came for lunch, had no trouble getting seated, and the service was very quick. The food came out ripping hot and the portions were enormous. (Note: I write Facebook reviews for residents of Turner's Crossing, a new development in Buda, as we all learn about good places to dine in Austin.) ------------- it took us two years to return to one of the eateries most convenient to Turner's Crossing, but we finally made it today. I bet you have all passed this place numerous times. Looking at the notes I took back in 2023, I'm wondering why on earth wife Karen and I waited this long to pay a second visit. It might be the ambience, or rather the lack of usual restaurant atmosphere, that we found offputting. But our second visit today reaffirmed our belief that the food is worth stopping for. Or at least remembering this place when you want carry-out Im Thai is a nondescript little place, primarily a carry-out, with a couple dozen seats at tables and a counter, at Main Street and Old San Antonio Trail in Buda. It's clean and the padded seats are comfortable, but the view is mostly a picture window onto the parking lot of the small strip mall. Not exactly elegant dining, but who gives a flying fig when the food is really good. The place is run by a delightful, chatty woman at the counter in the middle of the big room. She also functions as waitress. In a curtained area behind her works a cook with everything needed to crank out some mighty tasty food. The menu has a huge assortment of dishes, from appetizers to soups to salads to curries to specialties to stir-fried items. There are noodle creations and fried rice concoctions. Many have photographs with the listings, plus plenty of explanation about what's going into each dish. On some of the items you can pick the protein, such as chicken, shrimp, pork or beef, and even super-size that ingredient for a bit extra. Karen and I are not knowledgeable about Thai cuisine so we depended on the descriptions in the menu and the suggestions by our waitress. I also wouldn't know the difference between authentic Thai food and imitation Thai food, whatever in blazes that might be. We were certainly happy with the Pad Thai we had for dinner. Neither of us had ever tried this iconic Thai dish, but figured it was time we give it a shot. After an appetizer of two crab Rangoon rolls ($7.49), filled with a creamy crab and cream cheese mixture, we split an order of Pad Thai ($15.95) with pork. The plate of stir-fred rice noodles, pork, onions, and crushed peanuts on the side was delicious. It was plenty filling for both of us. The only other time Karen and I were there was in October, 2023, when we stopped after passing it several dozen times. That time we asked the waitress to make recommendations and we were not disappointed. We had a vermicelli noodle dish with pork for me and a fried rice dish with pineapple, cashews and pork for Karen. Both were truly good, but we had no clue that the portions would be so large. Hers was easily enough for three big meals, so a large carryout box full came home with us. We spent a little more time poring over the menu today and noted a number of dishes that piqued our interest, so there will be other visits in the future for us. We both like to try something new occasionally, and there's enough on that menu to keep us experimenting for a while. If we have doubts about anything, the friendly staff can always steer us in the right direction. Note: Im Thai is out of servce daily from 3 to 4 p.m, when it reopens. It closes most days at 9.p.m., but 9:30 Fridays and Saturdays. read more

This place is SO good!!! A very pleasant surprise on Uber eats tonight. Nice size portions and full of flavor. The egg roll sauce may be the best I've ever had. Will absolutely be ordering again! Update 4 days later- we've order this place two more times! It's consistently delicious and has quickly become our favorite place to eat! A few of our neighbors recommended this spot so we thought we would give it a try since we were craving Thai food but didn't want to go too far. It was a pickup order. From start to finish, we were disappointed. It took double the time expected and when I went in to pick it up, the whole place just looked and smelled dirty. The woman helping us wore gloves but she was on her phone, touching the door, wiping counters, touching the register and even went back into the kitchen all while never changing gloves. I don't want to think about whether or not she handled food with the same nasty gloves. The food - I think this is the first time I've had Thai food that basically had no flavor. We had the Chicken Pad Thai but the only thing with a semblance of taste was the chicken. I don't know how the rest was flavorless. Normally, I'd give the food a second chance but the place and service grossed me out so much that I won't return. read more

Rating: Negative 5 stars. Experience: I can no longer frequent this restaurant. It seems good for a quick bite, yet could pay the price with your life. I've gotten sick several times - on which I blame the cook and owner. The latest, and last, straw was the pieces of roach mistakenly swallowed and found floating in my Thai Tea after it was stirred. I blame the owner and front staff for the drink. I have major, life threatening allergies, and had to take Benedryl to lessen the blow of the roach allergy due to the negligence and uncleanliness of the I.M.Thai establishment. Talk about a hidden gem. Best Thai I've had in Austin. Dumplings were 10/10, the sauce was so good. The tiger cry was a unique take I've only ever had it served cold, but I enjoyed it hot. I prefer a stronger sear on the beef but the flavor was immaculate. 8.5/10 Pad Thai - 9.5/10- I enjoyed this dish a lot. Very good flavor but personally I prefer a stronger sear on the meat. Enjoyed dinner at this little spot in Buda. They have just a few tables for dine in and it's obvious that they have a significant amount of carry out customers. When we arrived, there were three open tables so we were seated and offered menus and asked for our drink orders. Other dine-in customers arrived and filled the remaining tables. There was one young woman efficiently taking phone and dine-in orders. We ordered a bowl of Tom Yum soup, Chicken Pad Thai and red curry with shrimp. We asked for fish sauce with chilis and got a fresh little dish of tasty sauce. The food was excellent and service was friendly. There were other customers waiting for a table so we finished up, paid the bill and left to make room. Just wish they had more seating so we could bring the family. read more

We ordered carryout tonight by placing the order on their website. The order process was smooth and pickup was a breeze. The food was ready at exactly the time they estimated. Was prepared as ordered, packaged well, and good temperature. I ordered pad Kee mao chicken. Medium spicy. The ratio of noodle, bell peppers, tomato, and sauce was just right. The last restaurant was a little dry. This was perfect. Medium spicy is still pretty hot. I like spicy food and it was just right My daughter had the dumpling appetizer. She ate them too fast for me to try them. :) My son had the chicken satay appetizer and it was ok, but he enjoys the dish better from Tuk Tuk. He eats a lot of chicken and is a bit of a connoisseur. We had the rice balls appetizer, too and it was very good. May have been a little crispier if it hadn't been to go, but that's not their fault and I would order again. The entree was packaged well (as I ate in a parking lot, not wanting to go home). The vegetables and pork were wrapped in foil and separated from each other with two large scoops of white rice in the other slots. I wish the broccoli had been cut a bit smaller but that's on me. I am very disappointed in my experience today. , mainly when receiving my check. I had lunch with my infant and added a side of steamed veggies. According to the menu it was $3 to add extra protein or vegetables to an entree (chicken pad Thai). They billed veggies (that weren't even edible by said infant) at kids menu price for $7.95. The broccoli was yellowing. When I kindly asked about this the server (who was very sweet) told me it would not be adjusted. The side of vegetables cost more than my appetizer. I'm a local business owner and understand the impact of inflation, but this particular case I feel taken advantage of as a consumer. It's more about the principle of charging kids menu price instead of what I asked for than the actual amount. Instead of reconsidering $5 they lost a patron for good. If I'd been told it would not be a side but a kids menu, I would not have ordered. read more

I love Yelp because it puts me into places like this. Looking for Thai around Buda this restaurant popped up and our community really likes it. Well, I loved it. I arrived alone and was quickly seated. The host/waiter was quite, but efficient and when eating alone that was perfect. Water was good and he kept it full. I'm a simple person and that simple execution always impresses me. It's amazing how it is a simple sign of a waiter who abandons you. I started off with the shrimp roll appetizer. Wow, that thing looked amazing. I wasn't here to look at food, but to eat it. That experience was amazing as well. It tasted fresh, crunchy, and a great mix of ingredients. The "sauce" that came with it was a tart/sweet complement and I gave this high marks. Really wanted to try the pot-stickers, but this didn't make me disappointed. For the main meal I went with the pad cashew. I was wanting some sort of noodle but couldn't tell from the menu. It came with a side of rice that I didn't know where to put as the plate was GINORMOUS and filled to the rim with a heap of fresh veggies, perfect chicken, crunchy cashews and just a lovely treat to the tongue. It was really big enough to share. But I was a winner tonight - I could gorge on it alone. Reflecting on things, the wise choice would have been to bring half of it home for a future meal. Fortunately, no one ever accused me of making smart choices in life. The only thing that almost did me in was the table. If the food wasn't so wonderful, we would be a 4 star max. But the food was that good and I quit freaking out. The table had that shellacking of stickiness. Like someone took a well used rag out of a bin of fetid water that had something sticky in it. Instead of cleaning the table, they coated it with stickiness. I couldn't put my hands on the table and avoided placing anything on it other than my forearms that were safely within my jacket. Every time I lifted my arms it was tugged back by the sticky tension. Pretty gross. I hope this place does a better job of using cleaner or at least clean water when bussing the table. Pro tip: Take out is a wonderful choice. Then you can eat on your OWN table. read more
