I used to love this place, but things have definitely gone down hill. The last two times I ate there, the chicken was dry, almost pasty. I thought it might just be a one off day, so I went back a month or so later and the same thing. But this time, their baba ganouj was also inedible. We've been here a few times. Average Greek food if you want something close and quick. I do feel like it's gone downhill. We all had gyro's. Some of us had fries, some had spanakopita and some had veggies and rice. The gyro's did not have a good amount of meat that we are used to. The spanakopita had no flavor, wasn't warmed through and was basically all spinach. Fries are crinkle fries and were ok - needed salt. Veggies and rice were ok. We did get some baklava to go and that was the best part of the dinner. Lastly, pricey for what you get - especially with the gyro not having a lot of meat. Service was fine. It's not table service. Went for lunch yesterday about 11:45am: Absolutely the worst food we had in a very long time: Gyro is standard so no issues there, the sides on the other hand were inedible. Dolmas were old and borderline going bad, so called lentil soup contained a lot of bulgur clumps and barely a scent of lentils, it was very obvious that they kept adding water to it and it was at a point of tasting bad. Asked a side of triopita/spanakopita, they said it would be a 15 min wait. We ended up eating the gyro and pita only, dumped the rest. This is a hard one. It is a hole in the wall type of joint that does a bustling job of a lot of to go orders, but they also have a few tables. Is it fancy? No. Is there a lot of ambiance? No. Was it spotless? No. You grab a tray, go down the line and pick what you want. What I quickly noticed is that they did not have mass quantities cooked up and then left on the steam table all day. That is good. They paced their cooking upon the rush periods it appears. I suggest getting there just before the rush as they are bringing everything together. They could get to 4 stars with no problem. However, I just had some things that disappointed me. The 2 meat combo didn't work for me as the chicken was quite dry. The Gyro meat, which is in the processed style was quite good and very moist. The meatballs, which I usually never eat were quite good as were their spinach pastries as well as the feta pastries were both flakey, but the stuffing was rather flat. My favorite thing in there are the hot dolmas, which seem to have a bit of lemon zest on the inside. I had visited at 2 different times. Once before the lunch rush and once after. They did not have the hot dolmas the second time, which was disappointing, but again, they were out and going to have to make more for the next round. If I can hit it just right, and get what I want, I think it would be an easy 4 star. Not a date night type of place, but everyone was really friendly and I ate every bit. My friends and I used to go to Tino's for lunch all the time and it was delicious. What happened to this place?? It's horrible now! Just flavorless glop! I just got take out and threw all of it away after a couple of bites. the baklava wasn't even good. I think it may have been really old. None of it was edible. I'll never go back. On my list visit I ask for the simple vegetables as a side and ask that they also excluded the cauliflower from my serving. This simple request was too much for the server. He put me off when I requested again and proceeded to serve me cauliflower telling me it was a medley. When I went to fill my beverage and noticed the area really smelled. I knew I was going to have #FatGirlFoodFriday (I made it up all for myself don't judge me) because I was STARVING all day at work. But I wanted something different. For about $10 you get a lot of food. I also noticed he chose hearts sides for me? Meatballs, tabuli (spelling?) and some pastry! I'm about to chow down so gotta go. But based on ambiance and service this place is a 5 star. I'll update after I eat!! OK I just finished eating...its a little before 5:30pm. I'm upset. I cant believe I've lived in south Austin since I was 14 and haven't been here before today. Everything was WONDERFUL. The gyro meat was so flavorful! I was in the mood for some greek food since it has been a few months and hadn't had any since I moved to this area. My husband wanted to eat indoors so we opted out of a food truck. My yelp searched landed me here. It was a very small and cozy little diner with no frills. You walk up to the food line and order what you want. I ordered a greek salad with light feta and no olives. My husband got a gyro and fries. We also split a choclava dessert. Honestly I was not impressed with the food quality or quantity. The gyro meat lacked flavor and the pita had a weird taste to it. I've walked by this place a few times running errands and I love Greek food so when I wanted a delivery lunch today I figured I'd give them a try! They've got good lunch specials - I ordered the gyro wrap with two sides. I chose the falafel and tabouli. Because I love all things Greek, I also ordered an extra side of dolmathes, tzadziki and french fries (I was hungry LOL). The gyro meet is tasty - spiced nicely. I wished the tabouli would have come in a sealed container just because so much of it was all over the place in the box when it arrived. Tzadziki sauce is delicious and the side portion is a great amount. I wished I would have seen that you could order the dolmathes vegetarian - I just assumed from previous Greek orders that they would come vegetarian (feta, rice etc) so I was a bit surprised when I bit into one and it was a tomato meat stuffing (but that's my bad for not knowing - I ordered delivery through Uber eats and they didn't have descriptions). Fries were ok - I like mine a little crispier but hey, fries on a Friday so I'm not going to complain too much (still ate them). Having heard of Tino's for years, but never taken the opportunity to visit, I wish I had held out longer. My girlfriend and I ordered a couple of plates and were disappointed by all of our food. The meat was rubbery and overly fatty, the salad flavorless, the hummus bland, and the bread lacking. The final insult was the baklava that should make all Greek people ashamed to have it come out of a place claiming to serve Greek food. When they packed up the food they put the small salad containers on the bottom and then put the large platter containers on top of those and then the soups on top of all of that. Background: I ordered the combo plate from Tino's today from Uber Eats. You get the chicken and gryo and three sides for $12.99. Also ordered pita cause it wasn't clear if that came with the plate, but I think it does, because it was $.60 for pita and they gave me two. Headline: My brother in law says the best BBQ places don't have good sides and maybe that's true for Greek places as well. Pros: fast and inexpensive The gyro meat was actually really good As was the chicken Tzatziki was great, though portion wasn't enough to sauce all the meat. Will order it extra next time Pita was good, as others have said, not the most authentic, but it was fluffy and warm and well-seasoned They have Dr. Pepper on the delivery menu which that, or a Mexican Coke, is my favorite drink with Greek food Cons: Not sure where these "huge" portions are people used to talk about: my meat portion was good but the Spanakopita was the smallest one I've ever seen and the the veggies were a very small portion too It's ok the Spanakopita was small because it wasn't very good-- it tasted previously frozen and not fully cooked.
