I sent my son to IMG Academy this summer for a week long lacrosse camp. Both my son and I were very excited for the week, with assumptions that there would be drastic improvements in his lacrosse playing and physical attributes. However, this is not how it worked out. I signed him up for the "Game Changer" which meant that he would have small group one on one training. However, this was a total waste of money. He said that they only did the "Game Changer" once. When I asked what they did, he said they watched lacrosse games. Are you telling me that I should be paying $500 extra so my son can sit inside and watch a lacrosse game? He told me that every practice they would wait between 10 and 15 mins for the coaches to show up. And that in practice the coaches showed no care towards the athletes and their improvement as a lacrosse player. Before I signed my son up for the camp, I called the department of lacrosse at IMG to ask about the camp and what they will be doing. I was quite shocked when my son said he didn't do any of these things. Overall, I am very disappointed with IMG and their lack of care towards the athletes coming to try and get better. I will never be sending my son here again and I advise you to do be same. The only thing that IMG Academy cares about is taking your money without benefiting you. read more

AMAZING. My son attended the baseball camp at IMG, and he had the time of his life. Yes, it's expensive, but coming from Manhattan, it's actually pretty reasonable as compared to what we pay for day camp, not sleepaway, which, is well into the 5-figure range if you don't want your kid bathing in an outhouse. It's cheaper for me to send him to IMG than to sleepaway camp up here. I only know about the baseball program, but, if your kid is training multiple times/week and really wants to play baseball, or their sport, then try it. My son met other kids who were just as in love with their sports as he is with baseball (they don't room exclusively with their own sport), and those personalities get it, understand each other. In addition, I have spoken with the school admissions folks, the camp folks, and they are always kind and take the time to respond and listen, and am seriously considering sending my son there for school. They have folks to help you figure out the financing, need-based money, scholarships, loans, etc., but like anything else, you need to do your own research and cross your Ts because it is very expensive, as is ANY boarding school. Also, I actually went to boarding school, and you have to be a certain kind of personality for it. It's not for everyone, and you can't blame the school because it wasn't a fit for your kid, or because it's expensive. I mean, unlike many other schools, the costs for IMG are all laid out on the website, so nothing is hidden, and you know from the get-go about the insurance fees, game fees, etc. Regardless, whether at camp or school, we will definitely be back!! read more

My son is 13 and a Summer Camp veteran. He pushed to attend IMG Football Summer Camp June/July 2020. He's never been so disappointed! The football program is good, and the coaches seem to care, but the rest of the day is long, lonely, unstructured and the kids basically roam the campus unsupervised. No attempt to organize or include new kids. He had to beg the front desk guy for a schedule of activities 2 times before the guy could produce one. The Football team had special activities, which no one even bothered to tell my son about. No schedule, no notice, no nothing. He found out about it halfway in the week, then didn't want to participate because he was embarrassed. My son was ignored and totally excluded and felt very lonely and isolated. I tried to get in touch with ANYONE on campus, like a COUNSELOR or a CAMPUS LIFE person...but the IMG main number and the "Campus Life" numbers just ring and ring.....and their voicemails are full, so even after trying for several days in a row, I couldn't even leave a message!! I emailed the head football coach, the campus life rep and the recruiter who we signed up with.....and only the recruiter bothered to email me back to tell me that they'd "make it better" and that someone else would be in touch.....But no one ever was! TO THIS DAY no one has been in touch!! Our son begged to come home early.....so we flew him home a week early and asked for a refund for the final week. Still haven't heard from anyone about that either. It's like they are operating in a black hole. No accountability, No structure, No Common Kindness. Hard to believe they could be a boarding school!! How can they continue to operate in such a negligent manner with middle school aged kids!???! Two stars for the football program. No stars for the camp itself. Shame on you, IMG!! read more

IMG Academy Academy's camp was such an amazing experience for my daughter that she decided to move across the country to attend her senior year with coach Kelvin Jones and the U19 Girl's soccer team. It has been one of the greatest experiences of her life! There are kids there from all over the world that come to make themselves better athletes and IMG Academy provides all the resources they need to accomplish this and more. read more

Don't waste your Money on this soccer tournament at IMG. Poorly run, they charge for admission, referees are poor and inconsistent and director and referee assignor could care less. They are trying to be a Dallas cup which they will never be. Played back to back years and this year is even worst then last year. I'll save my parents money and go else where. My daughter has attended IMG women's basketball camp for 2 years in a row and we have been more than satisfied with the curriculum. We have sent her to many different basketball camps in NYC and Florida but IMG Is the only camp that offers a comprehensive athletes program. Not only are there drills and scrimmages, campers learn how to lift weights (sports specific no less), mental acuity, leadership training and much more. Coaches are attentive and my daughter could not be happier with the program. I can only speak to the basketball camp but I believe it is top notch. read more

This is the school for the ultimate soccer mom, or any super committed student athlete and their parents. The program is run in conjunction with the world renowned athletic training program IMG. Basically, if a student has athletic talent they want to pursue in college or professionally, this is where they can go to school and still devote significant time and training to their particular sport. My sis who is a devoted soccer player said she often saw many a famous athletes at either Pendleton or IMG going to school or getting their skills brushed up. She had a blast and managed to get herself into a D1 school that was in the top 20 in the country for 2 of her 4 years in college. Now she is pursuing a professional career. I'd say they were a success. read more

Although my daughter is having an enjoyable time and says she has learned something, I am extremely disappointed and concerned with them soliciting to children to attend their 80,000$ a year boarding school. Teenagers are not eqipped to make life changing decisions as leaving home to attend a costly boarding school. That is a conversation to have with parents not children who already feel their parents are the enemy. read more

We sent our son here for one semester and it was pure, utter torture. We felt like we entered the twilight zone after one week and clearly regretted taking our son out of a normal high school and placing him in this money obsessed joke of a school. IMG should be investigated and shut down by the State of FL, as it clearly is a pure money maker and should not be in the area of education. The two areas, education and money, clearly do not mix at this place.The admissions office basically accepts anyone who is alive, breathing, and with either a lot of money or a 5 star recruit who they can manipulate and take advantage of. The school accepts over 95% of the applicants, and does not require any sort of entrance test. That alone should have been a red flag, as almost every school my son applied to required some sort of entrance exam. However, they call their program a "camp", not a school. They also accepts kids mid year and provide them with no information/resources to transition in a successful manner. The only communications you ever get pertains to the dollar sign. Additionally, approximately 1/3 of the students are on IEPs and yet the school does nothing whatsoever in determining if they can in fact accommodate students with certain learning disabilities, they strictly look only at the hard cold cash the parents are willing to fork out, and accept any and everyone regardless if they are going to be successful. Kids drop out left and right and they do not give a sh**t, because their payment policy is that they get 90% of the tuition upfront. They also push putting kids on Adderrol, every other Thursday a doctor comes in and sees tons of students to write out ADD prescriptions. One semester at this "school", exactly 5 months, is almost $50,000. Yet, the place only calls you when it pertains to money, nothing else. Your kid could be half dead and you will not hear from them. The cost to attend is ridiculous and yet they nickel and dime you to death, everything comes down to fees/money and only money. Use a credit card, 5% fee, late for a payment, additional fee, need a tutor, another fee, attend the Learning Resource Center, a huge $1500.00 fee, laundry service $700 fee, ride the bus another fee, attend SAT Prep, $1000 fee, use the toilet another fee, and the list goes on and on...They strategically place beverage areas, vending machines and eating places all over the place, that are additional monies, and at the same time limit the cafeteria to just a few hours for each meal, in order to rake in more cash from the kids. My son spent $800 one month on food at the school, even though he was on the food plan because it is never open. The school, (and I use that word loosely), is a complete joke....Teachers, ( I use that word loosely as well), are bottom of the barrel, with minimum experience and are clearly there because they cannot make it anywhere else. My son was there for 2 weeks doing poorly and not one teacher reached out to me, I instead had to chase his teachers down to talk to me and update me on his status. None got back to me and in the end, once the administration realized your child was a little bit of work they start to play hardball, trying to squeeze your child out. They lie and are completely underhanded and do not care about kids who are less than 5 star recruits. Further, the school mandates random drug testing, and certain 5 star athletes fail almost every test, and yet coaches and administration look the other way. There is no school pride or high school feel to the place, most of the kids travel all week with sports, combines, tournaments and what have you, so a large percentage of them do online classes while they are there. And I question if they actually do the classes themselves, as the place is pretty shady. When my son applied the admissions lady went in great detail, regarding how they get their ACT/SAT scores up, by manipulating the testing with kids on IEPs. The recruiting of high profile high school players, who are young teens is sinful and should be illegal. It is absolutely disgusting. The football coaches don't give a sh**t about the paying kids and make empty promises to get them in the door, and once there they drop them like hot potatoes. They in reality don't care about the star athletes either, taking advantage of them and using them as a tool to bring in more media attention and ultimately money. The coaches spend half their time coddling the 5 star recruits so they don't leave and the other half of their time hunting down new 5 star recruits to join the program. I could go on forever, our short time there was one big disappointment and an eye opener, we regret every day having found this place because it did more harm than good to our son, we are still picking up the pieces..... read more

Img academy, wonderful campus, lousy management. Our child attended the golf program and one thing which we observed was how underpaid the coaches were, with the lousy treatment of the coaches, demotivation, low energy attitude and burn outs were all over the place. Sad to see that img academy has been focusing on improving infrastructure instead of people. Parents, think twice before you spend your well earned money there! read more

My 14 YO son is 1/2 way through the baseball camp one-week program. I have 4 kids (9, 10, 13, 14) and this was our 1st exposure to IMG "life". This is also (literally) my 1st yelp post ever but thought it was important given a combination of the negative reviews (which may cause parents to worry or doubt their decision) and the substantial dollars investment being made (for us, it involved trekking 2 planes from California, rental car to/from airport and hotel night stay before check-in). Although many "new" adjustments for my son (e.g. independence of getting himself up early in the morning with his iPhone alarm clock, taking the tram to/from breakfast, dinner, living with roommates he's never met before) he completely and utterly loves the program. Given I went through the check-in process with him and got him settled into his room I have an appreciation for the posts that describe organizational challenges and chaos @ IMG. At the margin, I think that's probably true, however, I also think it parallels life quite a bit for the kids (e.g. things and schedules are changing, you need to "lean-in" to your own life to be an advocate for yourself, etc.). The "system" and way of life @ IMG has already had a tremendous (positive) impact on my son (he even went to bed early last night so he could get enough rest for himself as he was planning on getting up @ 6 a.m. with fellow baseball buddies to go to cage work before breakfast and texted me #puttininthework). It's clearly a place where if your son/daughter loves a sport and is willing to put in the "hard yards" to work on their game to continue to improve, then I don't think there's any better place to send them than IMG. This is all from a parent who approached the program with complete "open eyes" both cautious in my expectations as well as optimistic that I possibly found the "right place" for my son to get to the next level (albeit he needed to put in the work). So far (and I'll update/edit/correct post if different) been an amazing experience and he's no seriously looking at the possibility of staying 3 weeks over the Holiday Break and playing World Summer ball this summer. I feel that the level of training at IMG is exceptional. My 17 y/o son has been there 3 times for football camps so far, and he always comes back highly impressed. When high school kids get older, there's not too many high level places you can send a serious player to for training - but IMG is the exception - the instruction is high quality, and usually carried out by former NFL and / or College players / coaches, and / or just plain highly skilled staff. I sent my son to IMG Academy for two weeks this summer and after the first week, he was so disgusted with the program that I decided to bring him home early. IMG is only concerned with taking your money and keeping it. The soccer program offers nothing that you can't get at any local sports camp. Don't waste your hard-earned money by sending your child here. The staff is lazy, rude and incompetent. All they are about is covering their hinds and doing as little work as possible. Anything that you read about IMG providing first class soccer training and development is a sham. After one week, I inquired about getting a refund for the second week and after giving me the run around; having me talk to one pencil pusher after the other, I get an email with a refusal to issue the refund. This is what you are dealing with; a place that has no desire to stand by their commitment to young people. The place is way over priced, overrated and a waste of money. Don't make the mistake of sending your child here. You will regret it. read more

My kids had a miserable time at the sports camp. They advertise excursions, but apparently, they only have ONE bus with limited seating. My kids got in line 30 minutes early the first day and still did NOT get to go on the excursion (to the mall) because they didn't get a seat on the bus. The mall is 3 miles away but they can't make multiple trips. My kids tried to go on another excursion a couple days later. Again, no seats. They advertise this beautiful weight room, but when my kids tried to go lift weights, they were told they were not allowed to use the facilities. Lastly, and this should have been a red flag, when we registered, they charged us $200 (x 2 kids =$400) more than the price on the website. We were told the price had gone up, but they hadn't updated the website. They refused to stand by their advertised price. The food is lacking. The staff is rude which is not surprising if you read company reviews, there are a lot of complaints by the staff that they are underpaid and not treated with respect. It is no surprise that an unhappy staff doesn't treat campers with respect. I was hoping to send all 3 of my kids back next summer, but we will be looking at other options. read more

I could not agree more with Dave A post on 8/11/2015. I had an identical experience, however, my son attended the football camp. After 1 week, it was very apparent that my son was not getting anything out of it. In fact, his high school coaches have a summer program for only $250 that is far and above superior to the IMG instruction. Although, my son did like the coaches and the facilities, it was a complete waste of my money and his time. Rather than prepare him for his next season, the camp made him worse as it is more of a beginner's camp. What hurt him the most is that he was going against kids that were not as skilled and sometimes younger...a lot younger. If you're are thinking about going to IMG and your son is an advanced football player, then I would encourage you NOT to waste your money! What's worse is they apparently don't stand by their product and would not give me a refund...hence, I am writing this review to get the word out. You can spend significantly less $ on a local program near you and get as good (or better) instruction/reps...don't fall for the hype! read more
