There was no sound insulation whatsoever. so it was hard to stay in the zone during class. Overall, the energy felt off, and I definitely wouldn't book this space for my own classes or come back to rehearse.

The…read moreteachers, especially Miss Jazmine and Miss Hayley, are caring and encouraging -- my daughter is learning to be not just a great dancer, but a strong, confident girl. Young dancers are given the opportunity to take the stage with the older students and members of the dance company for the annual performances of The Nutcracker and Alice in Wonderland. The experience of learning to perform is invaluable. If I had any complaints at all, it's that the performances are held all the way out in Queens which is a challenge to get to during the week of recitals leading up to the performance. My other gripe is that the staff at the performance location do not allow photographs to be taken. Not Joffrey's fault, but I do wish they chose a closer location with friendlier staff. All in all, a great dance company and I'm glad I'm able to send my daughter here to learn from the best.

Immediately I knew this was a very serious class. In the beginner level here, they expect you to understand every basic position and movement. The way they design the classes is very confusing if you are new to the studio. I should have been in the absolute beginner ballet class but they rarely offer this class month to month. There is also basic beginner which is a level above absolute beginner and level below beginner. See what I mean? why are we call the classes such similar names. Yes they include descriptions, but I feel anyone new to the studio would be confused. I could tell since a lot of people in my class did feel out of place and under trained! Will I come back? I wanted to, but like I said, they rarely offer the absolute beginner and after my class with Stephanie I lost my confidence to jump into it after so many years off.

Our daughter loves all the teachers, especially Samantha whom she started with when she was in Kindergarten. The Nutcracker performance that the children dance in is such a special opportunity for them to experience dancing at a professional level with NY City Ballet performers and it's truly a magical show. There's people who have taken this class for years as well as noobs like moi, and he knows how to help everyone in his extremely popular class. Expect thirty minutes of dancey stretching followed by an hour of learning about half of a choreography and repeating it a million times for practice. I laughed a lot (at myself and at Jonathan's jokes). I may have even picked up a move or two! If you're brand new to Alvin Ailey, you can do two classes for $36, versus the one class for $24. It's not the greatest deal, seeing as how you save $4, but I did it anyway, being the economical Jew that I am. There's a bathroom adjacent to the class upstairs and locker rooms downstairs. The space is so well professional, spacious, and pretty. It's obviously the place for professional dancers, but don't be intimidated if you want to just dip your toes in and try a class here and there. I dug it. Salsa is next up for me woot woot! While you're here, take some time to learn about Alvin Ailey and his life. He's a significant figure in the world of dance and his experiences are quite the inspiration. Can't wait to come back.

I've taken Absolute Beginner Contemporary, Horton, Ballet, Hip Hop, and Vogue - all classes I'd readily take again. Such a fun way to work out and learn some new moves!
