Such a fun please. The teachers there are so talented and smiley. We had Tyler and Jonathan. I would definitely go with them again but I am sure all the other teachers are just as sweet. They take there time teaching you and they really give you your time. They were so patient with us whenever we were lost. They never made us feel bad or dumb if we couldn't get the move down right after several tries. I felt no pressure just fun. They even went over a little bit so I can get my money worth. Dance is something that I am really passionate about and I am so glad that NYU law arranged for a free salsa session. We were in a group of 20 people.it is a huge dance floor. I'm pretty torn writing this review. I took lessons here two to three times a week for eight months, and in that time I learned that everyone across the board, from the front desk staff, to the instructors, to the other students, are wonderful, friendly, and genuinely good, welcoming, people. Most of them know their stuff, and everyone made me feel at home from the moment I walked through the door until the moment I left and really helped kindle my interest in learning to dance. That being said, I got the impression that the instructors were worked to the bone and seriously hamstrung by lots of organizational red tape which in the end started to affect my learning. Something that I found unacceptable--especially for a chain that charges more than pretty much anywhere else in the city (for instance my current lessons are longer and cost half as much). There's also a handful of policies that made no sense to me. For instance when you buy your first package of 30 lessons (they have smaller ones but the only way to get even a marginal discount is to buy them in 30's) it comes with 3 months of free group classes and parties. However, each subsequent time you buy a package the number of free group classes and parties you get decreases until by your third package you have to pay for those out of pocket. I haven't heard of another place out there that basically punishes you for buying more/being a loyal customer. tl;dr The people are top notch, but the organization isn't and because of that the customer gets screwed. There are tons of cheaper options in NYC so I'd advise someone just starting out to consider them first. read more

It's such a caring place; they really put as much energy into taking care of you in every way possible. Not only are the receptionists (like Tayleur) extremely friendly and responsive, but the instructors are multi-versed. Tyler Bishop has been teaching me and my boyfriend for the past six months, and we couldn't be more satisfied. Tyler takes his time trying to get to know you and your optimal learning style, and no matter how different it is from your partner's, he manages to address both yours and their needs in the same session. My bf and I are taking a group salsa lesson and just went to my first one this past week. I love it so far!! It's a lot of fun, all the instructors are very knowledgeable and it was a great time! In my opinion, the only down side is because there are so many more women than men in the class, if you come with your bf/husband/significant other, don't expect to dance with him at all. They line up the women and the precious commodity that is a man into 2 different rows, and the women rotate around, alternating between dancing with a partner and not. So, I would really suggest all the single men out there to check out the group classes because the odds are in your favor! (Who can really resist a man who can dance?) But, if you come into thinking you're taking a class with your bf, don't expect to dance with him at all! read more

Update: I went back for a party and found that most of their better instructors have moved on. I watched a few of the lessons beforehand and noticed borderline franchise levels of lesson quality. The party itself had a good amount of people and was fun. Every employee there seemed nice enough... it just was seriously lacking of the quality it seemed to have. The studio itself is showing signs of wear. Seats with tears, a floor which isn't in the best of condition either... I'd take my money and spend it elsewhere. Unfortunately a lot of dance studios in Manhattan are beat up, but I expect more from a place that charges more than others for a single dance lesson. read more

It was a very welcoming place. Everyone was friendly. The instructor I was paired with was so much fun to dance with. He was funny and he made me laugh the whole time. After a short interview session, he already had an idea what I needed and what kind of dance would fit my needs. I ultimately couldn't go because the studio is out of my way. I took my first Viennese Waltz Lesson with my husband today, and we feel so lucky that TYLER BISHOP was picked to be our Instructor. He has a lot of patience with total beginners like us, he's amazing to look at when he glides through the dance floor, and he's just fun to take a lesson with because he has a great sense of humor! I twisted my boyfriend's arm to come with me to Dance With Me SoHo. I think he is glad I did! But I didn't twist too hard since he'll need his arm to dance with me. My lovely wife and I had the opportunity to try a group salsa class at Dance with me SoHo. The instructors were excellent. In 40 minutes, we learned the basic steps, and some simple stylings we could do with our hands and arms, to make us feel like "real" salsa dancers. It was a crowded class, and the instructors did a great job of making sure to give us all a chance to be in the front of the room near them. We rotated a lot, and it kept us engaged, focused, and on our toes (pun intended) We had the chance to meet a few of the instructors one on one, and they were very welcoming, and took the time to get to know us, and what we were looking to get out of the class. They were true professionals from top to bottom. As was mentioned in prior reviews...Men...you MUST show up to a group dance class. This is one of the few places where you will have the ratio working in your favor. They rotate partners, so you get a chance to meet lots of people. It is always a bit uncomfortable at first, but everyone is in the same boat, so guys if you're looking to meet some women who love to dance, this is definitely a great place! A dance studio that is worth remembering and returning to. I found them on yelp; lucky for me. I wanted to try them out with a short waltz lesson. All of the staff I met were passionate and professional. Pamela went out of her way to arrange the perfect appointment for my lesson with my first date; Leanne was quick to accommodate me when something went wrong and finally my instructor; Steve--was engaging, personable, pushed me and helped me feel like I really learned something by the end of the lesson. I love dancing and i went for a free lesson. It's a wonderful experience and if i had the money i would go full time. While it may seem expensive at first, they actually give you a whole lot of dancing time. Their private sessions are 45 minutes long and you MUST be there on time because they have to schedule you with other people and they run a pretty tight ship. Which is great! They also have group sessions - where you learn how to dance with different people and learn how to adapt, as well as "parties" where for a while they'll have a "go and dance" party. Where you can show off your skills and dance. It all seems REALLY awesome and I REALLY want to go - when i have time and money. read more

Dance With Me is a beautiful but pretty small space for a dance studio. I took a four-week lesson here at a nice discount because of the Groupon I bought. Loved Bryan, the instructor, he was both a very good teacher and a lot of fun. However, since I didn't pick salsa, the class was super small. This would be good except for the studio's policy that if there aren't enough students, they can cancel the class. Also, I didn't like that they didn't have separate studios for the different classes that are happening simultaneously. Just a screen separated our class from the ballroom class which was a little distracting. Overall, thought the experience here was pretty good, but have been to studios I like better. read more

I've always enjoyed watching professional ballroom dancing as a kid. Since finishing college this past December, I took the extra free time and opportunity to enroll at Dance With Me SoHo. Its been about 3 to 4 weeks of learning the basics of Hustle, Rumba, Waltz, Cha Cha, Salsa, Bachata, Swing, Foxtrot and Merengue. I came into this studio with only knowledge of my native West African dancing and bits of both Salsa and Bachata. With learning all of these new dances, I've never been so frustrated with myself and my left two feet. I did struggle at first, but I committed keep rolling through the punches. I took advantage of the amazing group classes available to construct my techniques, step order and rhythm. A month later, I'm more confident in my moves and less shy to grab a partner and jump on the dance during their social parties at the studio! The staff here are lovely and genuinely want to teach students how bust a move with top skill and confidence! I am a very reserved and anxiety prone character at most times, constantly apologizing because I make frequent mistakes while dancing. They have so helpful and soooooo patient with me. Also taking private lessons of Argentine Tango with my すごい instructor David, it's been challenging but really fun. Dance With Me Soho is the best place in NYC to learn to dance! Regardless of whether you're a beginner or experienced, you'll have a blast with the incredible team here! I walked in the door having never danced before and I keep coming back because they're so welcoming and encouraging here. You can try out lots of different styles of dance, Salsa, Swing, Bachata, Tango, Waltz, Rumba, Foxtrot, Merengue, Cha Cha, Samba, Kizomba, anything you want to try, and you choose which ones you like the best and want to learn. They do group classes and private one-on-one instruction...and it's not uncommon to see Tony Dovolani and Maks and Val Chmerkovskiy (from Dancing with the Stars) at the studio spending time with the students! I learn something new and cool every time I visit, and have a ton of fun in the process! Taking that first step to learn to dance is one of the best decisions I've ever made. I just had an introduction lesson and purchased five private lessons for my upcoming wedding. The only reason I took this deal is because I can't find any dance studio closer to my apartment and my fiancé is very spoiled and has very little patient on this. My experience of the introduction lesson wasn't pleasant at all. I send them a link from Youtube, which has the specific dance I want to learn. However, the instructor didn't even prepare anything about the dance. (Their excuse was that they couldn't open the link... I wish they could find a better excuse rather than treating me like a fool... before they convince me to have the introduction lesson they actually comment that the dance video from Youtube was cute...Obviously the link that I sent to them has NO PROBLE!!) Since the instructor didn't prepare what we wanted to learn. I was expecting after I showed him the video on my phone in the studio, he can at least show us some moves that somewhat related to the dance we want. Instead, the instructor briefly showed us two other SIMPLE steps for ten minutes and concluded that we are able to dance fairly well. Of course we know that we are able to dance well. But how could the instructor know how well we can dance. In my opinion, he didn't even challenge us in anyway! How could he ever know our limit!!! Another reason that I don't like this place is because they don't have any price list on their web for private lessons. I feel like they can just ask whatever they want to charge depends on how stupid and desperate their customers are! I paid $575 for five private lessons...One of the most expense packages in Manhattan...I don't know how stupid I am but at lease I was pretty desperate due to my tight working schedule. Before I left the studio, I insisted that I wanted to learn some moves from the video I showed them in my first private lesson. It seemed like they were planning on teaching us random stuffs for all five lessons and see how we feel after that...I don't want to trap at this dance studio forever...I want to learn "THE dance" I understand it takes extra effort for an instructor to learn a new dance and teach it us. But that is what I am paying for!!! If they aren't confident to accomplish that, don't offer the lessons. I am looking forward to our first private lesson in two days. I am curious how much the instructor can teach us in a 45mins lesson. I also wonder how many moves the instructor can actually pick up on himself... They better not disappoint me again... I will come back to give five stars reviews if they can impress me!! I change my mind...I just found out that this studio is founded by Val's family...OMG!!! I decided to find a dancing instructor because I was simply tired of sitting down during events with a beer in the hand, watching others having fun. I was in the market searching and I came across Dance With Me Soho on Yelp. Their first-time customer deal was too good to pass. When I first walked in, I didn't have to introduce myself, Sharalee greeted me with excitement (that definitely helped me calm down as I was extremely nervous). The dance studio was clean and spotless. Due to my specification of the type of dance I wanted to learn I was partnered with Reina. Reina's coaching abilities are poetic, she teaches/dances with grace yet she is firm and to the point. Her ability to communicate is simple and clear. Reina's passion for the arts of dance is contagious, and it keeps me motivated to be better! I would highly recommend her to anybody and everybody. I've been dancing with Tyler for about two years now and these dance lessons are the highlight of my week. It's great exercise and the DWM community is very friendly and supportive. Tyler is an excellent teacher - he adapts his teaching style to the learning style of his students, and he really knows how to motivate his students. Veni, vidi, saltaverunt. 'I came, I saw, I danced.' If dance is a language, I was an immigrant from a far away planet, speaking an unrecognizable language, in drastic need of an interpreter and ESOL lessons. I received everything I needed and more from the incredible people at DanceWithMeSoHo. This 'immigrant' had a long journey to even arrive at DWM SoHo, much less dance in any recognizable form. Two health issues over the past five years resulted in a transformation from an active individual to one fifty pounds overweight with such low energy that a year ago, I couldn't walk up a flight of steps in my home, or lift my arms to shampoo my hair without becoming dizzy and needing to rest. The health issues were finally addressed and stamina improved a bit, but trying to dig oneself out of such a poor physical state was impossible to do on my own. An external motivator was needed. Over the past nine months, I'd abandoned my usual political and economic reading and looking for a distraction, ended up watching past Dancing With the Stars youtube videos. I was especially taken with the physical transformation of actress Kirstie Alley during her first season on the show, partnered w/ DWM co-founder, Maksim Chmerkovskiy. At the start of her season, she would collapse on the floor 'in a puddle of sweat, exhausted,' and ended up not only physically transformed, but dancing quite well. Hey, she was me! Maybe there was hope, after all! Watching DWTS this past season with the most amazing partnership of Maks and Olympic Gold Medalist Ice Dance champion, Meryl Davis, completely sucked me in and provided the final impetus to get off my keister and get moving. In the same way total immersion can be a boon for learning a language, I knew I needed to have a period of time with dance as my sole focus to jump start a moribund metabolism. The grand plan began by traveling from my home outside Washington, DC, to NYC. First up, was seeing both SWAY productions, danced entirely with DWM professionals and headlined by Maks, Tony, and Val, DWM partners and featuring Zendaya. Our Instructor Steve is incredibly competent, highly patient, and with an abundant sense of humor- a perfect fit for our needs. The goals were simple: get moving, have fun, learn something new... and not collapse in a puddle of sweat on the floor. Along the way, both I and my daughter discovered we have a genuine passion for dance. It is the absolute best way to get into and remain in shape. I still have a long way to go, but made a better start than I imagined. DanceWithMeSoHo was selected for several reasons: ambiance, caliber of instruction, and 'vibe' of the staff. The studio is beautiful, the owners put the effort into creating a visually appealing space which sets the mood for all. All of the instructors are highly skilled dancers, with a superb ability to teach students at all levels. From pre-embryonic beginners, like me to a fellow who is one of the best amateur dancers in the US. The vibe? We were greeted and treated like old friends from the very start by everyone at DWMSoHo. In particular, Manager/Instructors Kosta and Leanne were so welcoming, we were immediately put at ease. All of the instructors we met were warm and made us feel happy to be there. Whatever ones motivation for taking dance lessons, it must be fun. If not, it simply is a chore, a burden and one people will avoid. Instead, this student eagerly looked forward to each days lesson. Even more remarkable was my adult daughters statement after day two: 'I'm having fun and I really like dancing!' Learning in an immersion setting meant we were exposed to basics of many dances and were able to retain what we learned from day to day. This was a plus, because we identified which dances we preferred and which were best for us. Rumba, Salsa, Cha Cha, Tango, Foxtrot, Waltz, Swing, Hustle were among the basics we covered, providing a solid foundation for our growth. Additionally, I've more energy now than at the start of the week. The metabolic jump-start plan clearly is working. Seeing results in such a short period of time is a real motivator. If I can do it, anyone can. One last point: DWM clearly understands the social aspect of dance and hosts periodic events, such as the lovely evening this past Friday. It was a delightful way to cap off our week of lessons. We enjoyed chatting with other students, instructors and our instructors in an informal, relaxed setting with good food, drinks, and music. The absolute worst part of the week was that it ended. We'll seek out a studio in our area to continue to improve our skills, but plan on another 'road trip' to DanceWithMeSoHo. Not yet fluent in the 'language' of dance, I can communicate the basics and am motivated toward greater proficiency. DWMSoHo, is THE go-to resource. Just do it. read more

What fun! I was lucky enough to initially be introduced to this studio via an Elite event by Yelp. We were then offered a free private lesson to sample a class. I had my salsa lesson with Steve. I can honestly say that the lesson was fantastic. It definitely re-awakened my love of salsa and pushed me beyond what I thought I could do with my limited knowledge of the dance. Steve was patient, fun, and so easy to dance with. He took his time with evaluating my strengths and weaknesses and was an amazing lead. We got paired with Kajdi! Who was was unbelievably amazing and came up with a simple and elegant routine for our Indian-American mash up song!
