I'm giving…read moreone star because the owner, Chad, cost me a significant and entirely preventable 30% budget overrun -- and he did it after I gave him multiple chances to get it right. Here's what happened: Chad visited our home three times before we signed. On his second visit, I pointed out that the subfloors were in rough shape and asked directly whether I should repair them. He told me not to worry about it. The weekend before installation, I sent him a video of the floors and said I was thinking about going to Menard's to pick up 1/4" plywood to cover the entire main floor. He called me and told me not to do that -- said it would be a waste of time and money. Monday morning, his installers walked in, looked at the subfloor, and immediately said it was in awful shape. Their recommendation? Go to Menard's and get 1/4" plywood to cover the whole floor. Exactly what I had proposed. They charged $25 per sheet of plywood plus $40 per sheet to install it. When it came time to settle up, I wrote two checks -- one for the agreed amount plus half the overrun, and a second check for the other half, with a note to Chad that he should only cash it if he felt it was fair for me to absorb the full cost of a problem he had twice told me wasn't a problem. He cashed both. I don't know if Chad was inattentive, undertrained, or simply not honest with me. What I do know is that the owner of a flooring company should be able to assess a subfloor. I flagged the issue twice -- once in person, once on video -- and was turned away both times. If you're considering Third Coast, insist on a written subfloor assessment before you sign anything, and get any scope-of-work promises in writing.

We had two guest bedrooms/offices coming out of a chaotic mix of linoleum, tile, and carpet tiles, a utility/laundry room with rough concrete, and a large family room on polished concrete. We went with LVP in a rosewood finish for the bedrooms, a Moroccan-pattern sheet vinyl for the laundry room, and plush carpet for the den. The end result looks incredible -- but what stood out just as much as the finished product was how the entire process was handled. From day one, Curt was responsive, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful. He walked us through the showroom, helped us think through each space, and came to the house to assess everything in person. His quote was thorough and transparent -- out the door pricing for all three rooms, no surprises. What we didn't fully anticipate was how much prep work our floors actually needed. Schneider's team handled self-leveling pours, subfloor resurfacing, and full prep on nearly every space to make sure everything was flush and seamless. They went well beyond scope -- installing new floor moldings, replacing old closet tracks that weren't compatible with the new flooring, and even coordinating a plumber to address a decrepit drain in the laundry room. Every detail was handled without us having to ask. Kyle did outstanding work on the LVP installation, and the rest of the crew handling the sheet vinyl and carpet were clearly masters of their craft. We were actually able to leave town and visit family while they worked, and came home to everything done, clean, and beautiful. We will absolutely be using Schneider again. Poor communication…read more Mark came out and quoted a project for $17k on a remodel of our only small bathroom that was broke (and needed a remodel anyway). I had remodeled the bathroom at our previous house, so I have a good handle on what is involved, but we were too busy to take it on ourselves. I solicited 5 or 6 bids and Mark's seemed the most professional but also the highest cost. I highlighted that this was our ONLY bathroom and speed was the utmost priority and that ideally I would like the project done in like weeks not months. Mark didn't express much concern over timeline. Now there were some materials shortages, and COVID and whatever, but it was just excuse after excuse, with sometimes no one showing up for a month at a time. And the strong impression was this project just wasn't organized or a priority. They didn't start for over 5 weeks, and when called on it, I was told that the timeline we discussed was for starting the project, not finishing it. I wish I had recorded our initial conversation, because it seemed he took crummy notes and then later reinterpreted them to suit his needs. Nearly 2 months into the project he expressed surprise this was our only bathroom and sort of sheepishly asked what we had been doing in the meantime (going to neighbors houses we are friends with). How that CORE piece of information I had stressed repeatedly during our first few meetings had slipped his mind, I have no idea. He the said he would hurry to finish. Then no one showed up for 3 straight weeks. We nearly fired him about three different times, including in mid JAN promising to have the shower done by Valentine's day (we hired him first week of OCT). Needless to say that deadline was totally missed by a month or more. Moreover key elements discussed during the planning stage were simply forgotten by him (tile wainscoting), and then when asked about them several months in he had to scramble. Early on in late OCT he had stressed the need for us to drop everything and go pick out tile so he could order it and have it there by mid NOV. Then MONTHS later when he was actually ready to install the tile (JAN), the project again had to go on hold because he had not ordered it yet... This is despite repeatedly asking him if he needed us to order tile, or front cash for materials to speed things along (not sure if he was having cashflow issues or what). Anyway, once the project was 95% done, they just had to install a glass divider (another element he had forgotten about). So that was another several weeks, then when they came to install it, they had cut it for the wrong side of the room, the side away from the shower...so more weeks to completion. By this point I couldn't even talk to him because I was so angry, but firing him when we were 98% seemed pointless. Anyway, I left it in my wife's hands, who he then took advantage of. Telling her he was giving us a "$1000 discount" for all the hassle, while charging her $300 more than the estimate and payment plan we had agreed on. This is despite us generally picking cheaper materials than were in his estimate and giving him wide latitude on specific choice just to try and speed things along. Hiring Mark was one of the 3-5 biggest mistakes I have made in my entire life. Worse than some car accidents I got into in my teens or that time I bought a super expensive bike right before we had a kid and I mostly stopped biking. The stress related to this has probably literally taken 6 months off of my life expectancy. I am serious.

Terrible service and no communication! It took 2 1/2 months to get carpet installed…read more We chose floor center due to the fact that they had the carpet in stock that we wanted. When we purchased our home we had to get the carpet replaced before we could move in to the upper level, we were told that since the carpet was in stock that they could install the same week. So we paid for the carpet and waited. And waited. And waited. For nearly 3 weeks we slept on couches in our living room. We paid for removal of the carpet but they left the staples in the floor and carpet around the radiators. When asked if that was standard procedure they said that sometimes if there are too many staples they leave them in but stated "you will barely even feel them through the carpet pad" For six thousand dollars i would expect no not feel any staples. The list goes on and on the issues we had. Their competition up the street said that absolutely the removal should have included pull the staples. Once they received our money there was no communication. Numerous times I asked for a follow up call which never happened. Between my wife and I, we ended up having to take 7 days off of work to get carpet installed. On multiple occasions the installers showed up without any knowledge of where the carpet was being installed (upstairs) so were unable to install due to the fact that they could not get the carpet up the stairs by themselves. Spend your money elsewhere, this place is a joke. If you value your time (and vacation hours) stay clear of the Floor Center.

I had a defective floor that Hamernicks had installed…read more First they would not help me until the builder of my home paid a delinquent bill, that had nothing to do with my floor. This took about a month. Then they said they filed a claim with the Manufacturer. Two months later told me that they mistakenly had not filed the claim. Once all this was done. They gave me an estimate and then said they had made a mistake and raised the price $1100. I contacted their CEO and made her aware of the problem. Never heard back, so my fear is that their lack of concern for their customer starts at the very top. My opinion is if you are looking for an efficient, accurate and customer focused company. Pass on this one.

The flooring in our whole upstairs needed replacing (it was impossible to only replace the kitchen flooring without it being noticeable in the dining room and living room). Bob came to our home quickly after we called him so that we could get an estimate to the insurance appraiser. The moving company's insurance didn't cover the cost of depreciation, so Bob spent an hour on the phone to convince the appraiser to lower the depreciation from 30% to 15% -- saving us around $1,200. Because he felt we shouldn't owe anything (the damage was not of our doing), he worked to get the price to within our budget -- without sacrificing the quality of product or service. The floors turned out better than we could have anticipated, and we couldn't be happier. Bob is truly an experienced professional who strives to provide the best for his clients. I would recommend him to my family and friends.

Our original 16 year old Duffy's hardwood floor had some major warping issues due to a water leak…read moreIn the kitchen . Duffy's spent several days drying the subfloor. They pulled up a number of bad boards, replaced them, then sanded and restained the whole floor. Looked great! Then the warping reappeared. It was not dried properly before the re-install or maybe the boards were not installed properly. Duffy's said they could redo the bad parts but the coloring of the new work might be very noticeably different. We had to choose between the warping or mismatching floor boards. We opted to not do anything for fear of making it worse. Very disappointing.
