In & Out BBQ had so many 5-star ratings that we made a detour off the interstate for a late lunch. We were not disappointed. Honestly, can you be when it's a diner-sized place with a smoker on the sidewalk out front? We never judge BBQ by our local style, knowing that there are as many types of BBQ as there are people in the world (it's the Baptist version of smoked meats, we think and if you're Baptist you'll get that joke). In & Out is no exception. It's a wet style, slightly sweet. But really, we think the reason to stop in here is the owner. He chats with you while he cooks and while you eat. He MADE OUR FRENCH FRIES to order - literally cut up a potato to fry after we put in our order. That's the first time I've ever seen that happen. Kenny (the owner/cook) is a great guy and he makes your dining experience wonderful. Great owners, passionate cooks - these are the things that move a meal from good to great. Incredible food! We stopped by after a hike nearby and happened upon this restaurant. The smoker sits out front and pitmaster Alan was working the meat and the wood when we arrived. Two slabs of ribs later we walked back in just to tell him how good it was. We tried to buy some of the excellent hot bbq sauce but unfortunately he's not selling it yet. Nice little BBQ joint in downtown Winchester. The owner was working the counter and is a very nice and personable man who really appreciates each customer who comes thru the door. I had the brisket sandwich and the creamy cole slaw. It was a perfect lunch portion of food. The brisket was moist, tender and flavorful. The mild BBQ sauce was sweet and delicious. The cole slaw was quite good, as well. Sweet and filling. I look forward to trying other menu items the next time I find myself in the area. read more

Wasn't even planning lunch; but, the aroma from the smoker permeated nearby business with an open door, and I was hooked! This is a small place with a simple menu and just a few seats plus a bar for service, and carry-out service too; but, hey, it's a barbecue joint and what counts is the "Q", right? I had a BBQ sandwich and cole slaw; it was wonderful! They have really good slaw, plus ribs and burgers too, and several sides which I did not try (yet). They have two sauces, a sweet sauce which is very good - - not too sweet - - and a hot, which has just a little zip but doesn't set you to sweating! When you walk up to the place, there's a smoker on the sidewalk out front, and the promise of good food is in the smoke! Friendly owner. Yes yes yes! I can't say enough wonderful things about the food and Kenny. We used Yelp to find this place and it is a hidden gem. We had the ribs, brisket, slaw, beans, fries, and hot bbq sauce. Every single morsel of food was delicious. Kenny joked, laughed, and fed us like we were sitting in his home kitchen. The smoker sits on the sidewalk along Main Street and as soon as you walk up, you start to drool over the smell. I highly recommend this establishment. It may not be a looker inside but it makes up for it in taste and personality. read more

I stopped in here at 2:00 on a Saturday and not another sole in the place but the cook and his girlfriend. They were nice enough & the food was pretty good. I had a brisket sandwich with fries. The brisket had been cut up in small pieces which seemed a bit strange at first, but one taste of the sandwich with some of the bbq sauce he has labeled with duct tape on the counter marked as hot and I was hooked. This sauce was the perfect mix between sweet and spicy. The fries were hand cut potatoes deep fried & they were ok, but by far the highlight for me was that sauce. read more

Nice hometown BBQ with a smoker out front on the sidewalk. The owner is a nice guy who is very personable and engages the customer. A half portion of ribs filled me up and I had left overs for dinner. I'll be sure to come back and try breakfast and I may even bring my wife and. Tori. This place is a hidden gem! Kenny will serve you up fall off the bone ribs or brisket that will leave you wanting more. Up for some conversation? If you're a fan of House Of Cards, this may remind you of the BBQ joint Frank Underwood visited in DC. I visited with a customer and colleague for lunch. As you walk down the street, you see their smoker outside with the aroma from the hickory enticing you to enter the restaurant. It's set up like a diner with some tables as well as counter stools. The owner/pitmaster (he wears a pitmaster BBQ hat) is friendly and very spiritual. The spiritual part of this place is quite different from any other eating establishment. My colleague and I had the 1/4 slab of ribs lunch meal for $10. My customer had the pulled pork sandwich. You get 4 St. Louis style ribs as well as sauce on the side. It is served wet. The ribs were heavily smoked and fall off the one tender. They could not qualify as competition ribs since they were smoke pink throughout. When I tried to cut the ribs apart, the bones just pulled away and I was left with a slab of boneless ribs. The back membrane provides some texture similar to a crunchy skin. read more

Went there with a group of about seven right before closing. They were super nice and served all of us. The food was great! Can't wait to go back at lunch when they have some brisket. Can't say enough about how nice the waitress and kitchen staff were. Great hometown place. read more

Best BBQ in Winchester!!!! My coworker and I stumbled across this place by accident looking for another restaurant. When we got near, the aroma of hickory caught our senses. When we saw the pit right in front of the restaurant, we knew we had to give it a try and we were not disappointed. Mr. Kenny is probably one of the nicest people you will ever meet and he makes all his food with pride. He makes you feel right at home as soon as you walk through the doors whether if he knows you or not. The food here is amazing as I've tried just about everything he makes. One thing is for sure, you can't beat his hand cut homemade fries. I go to Kentucky 4 times a year and look forward to going to his place for lunch that's for sure. If you're ever in the area you have to give this place a try. read more

My husband & I both had the brisket which almost melts in your mouth (we also got 2 lbs to bring home). I can't wait to get back & try the ribs. The couple running the place is super friendly but not overbearing. The hand cut fries are perfect as is the cole slaw. Highly recommend, do yourself a favor & check this place out. read more

Loved this place. The owner, Kenny, smokes everything on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. It smells great and tastes delicious. The ribs fell off the bone. Burgers and pulled pork were delicious. The owner prepares all of the food in front of you. The fries are hand cut on the spot, and they are great. The restaurant is not fancy at all. All meals and drinks are served in styrofoam containers. Owner is very involved and friendly. Overall, a worthwhile stop. read more

Stopped by with my family of 5 (includes 3 boys 15,14 & 11). Everyone enjoyed their meals and my oldest said it was the best philly cheese steak ever. We will defiantly be eating here again. We were on the highway in the middle of a long day of travel and yelp got us to In and Out. A great stop!We got one pulled pork sandwich and one brisket. Both were delicious, but the pulled pork was our favorite. Beans and slaw were good, too. The menu is simple as is the setting, but it was just right for a quick lunch. This place is the bomb!!!! Cool atmosphere, a real local yocal hangout. The smoker is right out front and was still warm when we arrived. I had the 1/4 slab of ribs with two sides for dinner, it was enough for lunch the next day. Green beans were yummy, as was the homemade coleslaw. Ribs were perfect, not dry like some BBQ places serve. Moist, and perfectly smoked. Husband was not hungry so he just had the cheeseburger, not really great, but chef warned us before ordering. Had the local ginger ale soda, very good too. Take the time to drop by for a great treat. read more

Enjoyed talking to Kenny. Got the pulled pork platter. I'm from North Carolina and pulled pork is normally either whole hog (eastern) or shoulder (Lexington). Kenny said hsuses butts. It was good...not the best I've ever had but good since butts are not usually as clean a cut as shoulder I was satisfied. French fries were fresh cut and excellent and green beans were great. read more

History

Established in 2017.

We started with a 10x20 tent and attended festivals and car shows back in 2009, then we set-up in Nicholasville to help out a local buisness draw more customers, little did we know at the time we were building up our own clientele, and with a partner we now have our own BBQ joint.with satisfied customers, you can try it out for yourself, Kenny Allen is the Pitmaster and does an awesome job on our meats.

Kenny A, and Johnathan S. Got together and started up In & Out BBQ, Kenny has been in the BBQ buisness for 18 yrs and has been in the food industry since he was 14 yrs old and has been trained by some of the best and what makes him so special is his care and concerns for all his customers and he is always there for others when they need prayer. Him and Johnathan were put together to start up a market place ministry and we are trying to get others on board for a market place revival.
