Brought in 2 older cot-sized (31" x 75" x 3") Tri-Fold mattresses with low quality flat foam where my hips/shoulders/knees were "on the ground" during side sleeping. Turnaround time was 5 or 6 days. The new foam is super firm and, according to staff, very durable and should last at least 10 years for summer tent campground "car camping" trips. If you are car/tent/campground camping (not hiking in to camp) it's well worth replacing your worn out foam with foam from In-Ex as it's about the same price buying a brand new self-inflating mat from REI with a 1-2 year warranty. I think the person helping me was Mario (the owner) but he didn't introduce himself. I only wish I could afford In-Ex making all new covers. read more

There used to be another foam place in town that was much cheaper. Maybe they were too cheap so went out of business. Okay I can get past that..... We took some chair cushions in to get the foam replaced. We did like they had samples to sit on to try. I was also able to buy some loose foam for another project. So left our cushions and they were very fast to replace which was nice as we had a house guest coming a few days later. We didn't check closely the quality till we got home. The cushion material was loose and floppy because they didn't cut the foam to fit well. Not a good look to have floppy edges to your cushions and several inches short in the back. We returned them and they offered to just add extra padding (not foam) in them. No thanks we paid for the foam to fit like the cushions we were replacing. They agreed and a couple of days later we got them back complete and this time acceptable. A lot of extra hassle and I'm sure waste on their part. They should be professional and know how to properly cut to fit. They even had our old cushions for the exact measurements. Very odd..... just check the quality closely before enough you leave. read more

We weren't going home, I already have my cushion in my car, and I just want to get this cushion done and over with. The next shop I called, was In-Ex. The lady I talked to on the phone was very nice. We were there in no time, with my cushion. My concern was, if I put in 2" thick foam, it will not zip, since it's got feather & batting too, it will be shipped around to fit additional foam, but they have a better idea: and I agreed to it, but I don't want to do the work. For the price I was quoted plus the filling, I thought it was a good bargain, and she said it will be done TODAY, in 15 minutes! I was thinking . . . cushion, new foam, maybe new fabric cover about $300-$400? It was done and he brought it to my car in about 5 mins! I was very happy, and I didn't have to come back 2-3 days from now, it's ready today! He asked me, if I wanted to go over & check what he did. I started to unzip it, but hey! It's cold out, hubby's in the car waiting, with a broken ankle, me with a swollen cheek (dentist), I don't want to check it over. I told him, I'll take your word for it! I'll check it when I sit down on the couch, I'll let you know if there's anything wrong. NOTHING was wrong, it's as if I just got myself a new couch with a new cushion! LOVELY! I haven't ever bothered to write a review before, but I just had to for In-Ex. In short, I feel sorry for anyone who's trying to reupholster something who doesn't live in Portland. It's hard to overstate how much we didn't know about reupholstering our vintage kitchen booth. I found In-Ex because my family wanted to have our booth the same pink it had been originally. This was not an easy color to find. As luck would have it, I didn't find it on the internet. I found it in Portland, at In-Ex. They had ordered it for someone else a few years ago, and had some remaining. I know that that manufacturer no longer carries the color. It was kismet. Mario also volunteered to give me a bit of deal if I took all of it. As we disassembled our old booth at home, it became clear there was a lot more to it than the how-to videos on the internet. We weren't just putting a cover over an old cushion. The people who'd put our 50s custom booth together were true artisans, and they didn't make it so someone could just slap some new vinyl over the top of the old cushion every five years. Mario and the other folks at In-Ex had all the materials we needed. I took detailed photos of what was going on and Mario even looked at the disassembled booth, telling me how to do to details, how to improve upon some things, and what I could ignore. It was a lot of work to reupholster the booth, but I think it turned out great. I think if I hadn't stumbled across InEx, we would have spent countless hours working on the booth, only to end up chucking it in a landfill out of frustration. I just had sofa cushions replaced with new foam. Plus two pillows. In-Ex did the job in less than five days. Yes, they are horribly short staffed, but I couldn't be happier with job they did. I called numerous upholsters, no one would return my phone call. Every upholster I contacted was voice mail, never had an opportunity to speak with anyone in person. My little job of needing new sofa cushions wasn't important enough for them. But, In-Ex Upholstery was happy to take my small job, and give me the product I wanted. My dad is making a gaming table for me. The three necessary things outside his area of expertise were padding for the rails, vinyl to cover the rails, and neoprene for the play surface. Within less than an hour visit, we had foam cut to form, and in stock vinyl upholstery (they don't deal in neoprene). I have a vintage couch that I scored on craigslist a few years ago and though the bones are really great, the cushions were starting to look pretty sad. I took my cushions to In-Ex not really knowing what to expect and I must say I was happily surprised by the whole experience. I have had quite a few items upholstered here and had a good experience each time. They recovered and antique sofa and 2 chairs ($2,000 plus fabric), recovered the cushions in my RV ($800 plus fabric), and I had a bunch of throw pillows made ($200 plus fabric). Each time I purchased the fabric online after getting an estimate from them of how much I would need to do the work requested. It is not cheap but they do quality work, so it really is for special items you can't bear to part with. Also it is a small shop and they get busy, so the turn around can take some time. read more

I've never had a sales person try so hard not to sell me something. The man who "helped" me was incredibly rude and dismissive. I was looking for a piece of foam to make my dog a new bed and was perfectly prepared to spend $50 on a nice piece to help my furry friend get a better nights rest. He told me to go to Fred Meyer. Seriously. Having no idea what my price range was or taking the time to find out he told me it was too expensive for me which was demeaning and insulting. Owner Mario was a real gentleman when it came to listening to what I had in mind for making my mid-century couch less saggy. We started with re-stuffing the cushions, which he sewed back together by hand (no zippers) at no extra charge! Then he cut a piece of plywood and covered it with fabric to give the seat more strength. He was very pleasant, and even offered to deliver the large board later, for a nominal fee. I may still go ahead and have the springs re-done, just to give the couch more value...and this is something that they can do, as well. I also plan on having a custom cover made for a Mission futon chair pad, so that all of this matches. I highly recommend In-Ex Upholstery, especially working with Mario. read more

Highly Recommend In-Ex, they did a great job in adding better quality foam to two arm chairs for our living room. They have a great sample area in the reception where you can try out different foams and the staff are knowledgeable and gave great advice on selecting the right foam product. Took in an old cushion in to have an exact duplicate made. The cushion is triangle shaped with a bumper (part of a yacht dinette) and needed to match the existing cushions. I was told the cushion would be ready on Thursday and they would call me to let me know when to pick it up. After not hearing from them on Thursday, I called Friday morning. They said, "It took longer because we wanted to get it perfect." Well, it wasn't perfect. The bumper on the front of the cushion was several inches wider than the original. They remade it, and I picked it the following Monday. I got all the way home on Hayden Island (I-5 north traffic is horrible) and realized they had made it completely backwards. So back to the shop I went and asked for my $85 back. They complied. Still needing the cushion replaced, I bought the exact foam from Moonhill Distributing for literally half the cost and made the cushion myself. The owner at Moonhill was very personable and helpful. Highly recommend them. The cushion turned out beautifully. read more

I'm over the top disappointed with this company. Not only did they cut cushion wrong but they tried to charge for it and when that was discussed they tried to charge the employee. Although it was paid for by customer because it's pretty illegal to charge employee they still did not cut it properly. It was 2 inches bigger than pattern cushion taken for their measurements. Now covered it doesn't look like the rest of the couch. I was so frustrated since we had to use reclaimed fabric from other cushion covers that were not the right size. The best possible outcome was achieved. This company has done this to more people I've talked to. Including my grandfather who never argued with them and always walked away with the wrong thing. I highly recommend going somewhere else. Even if it's out of area. They are over priced and when they make a mistake they leave the customer with the charges or try to brow beat employees THEY have not trained. Totally unethical company. read more

I brought my two Restoration Hardware pillows to have the feather insert replaced with foam so they would be sturdier and not sink so much. I paid $40 per pillow (sale price). I brought them into In-Ex and explained what I wanted and it seemed like they understood, but when I went to pick them up, they were stiff as a board and the seams were almost bulging from the piece of foam inserted. They were basically unusable for a relaxed linen couch (or pretty much anything IMO). I brought them back, and they basically inserted a filler insert that i probably could have bought for $20 - and would not budge on returning the $200 I stupidly had already paid. read more
