I feel like I'm part of their community too...I feel my family is welcome. My father loves to attend daily and doesn't want to miss it. He likes the food and the company and all of the attention that he receives. My social worker Janine, soon calmed those terrifying feelings. She explained her primary goal was making my home livable so I could remain here as long as possible with support services. That was music to my ears! I was dreading having this domicile red tagged, being sent to a SNF, becoming homeless, or warehoused in a nursing home. Having owned this place for 20 years, I had become increasingly incapable of providing survival level housekeeping following major hip surgery. I also have a tendency to hoard. I had boxes here that had not been opened or examined since my last move in 1999. Also there have been 2 floods resulting in water damage and some mold issues. To make a long story short, Janine appeared to be trying to help & didn't seem threatening at all. She introduced me to Mr. Brown who the County contracts with to tidy up apartments that are below par. His crew, Brenda & Debbie were friendly and professional & had my kitchen and bathroom sparkling clean in a few hours. It's referred to as a deep cleaning, and they did a fantastic job! Mr. Brown also organized a hauler to swing by with a large pick up. We quickly filled that bed to overflowing with boxes, clothing, shoes, garbage bags, & and furnishings. Right now I am luxuriating in my new minimalistic surroundings. How can I forgive myself for waiting so long to seek intervention? If I could give these folks more than 5 stars, I would. They have literally given me a new lease on life. I highly recommend the APS team for those struggling to make their home environments more livable. Please don't procrastinate. Order for wound care daily somedays 2 days would go by before I get care for my wound. When you have an out side appointment they would not have you ready. If you need help late night good luck if someone comes. I was soiled from night shift to after 11:00am the next day. A man that shared the same room needed help and was in distress all night no nurse show up to see about him. He did not get help until the morning shift. The administrator is useless after talking with him about my concerns the same problems continue. They have a few / very little cna's 2 good nurses that work on the day shift was very helpful. Following corrective foot surgery I decided to try a home care agency that offered special…read morepost-operative care. I didn't anticipate needing anything long term, and this company offered a 72-hour package that seemed perfect for my situation. Services I needed included applying ice for 20 mins every hour I was awake, helping me get around while I got used to crutches even in the middle of the night, which meant spotting me to make sure I didn't fall, heating up and bringing me food, as I was supposed to lie in bed with my foot elevated for the first week post surgery, and taking care of many other things I needed. I did not need any actual nursing services--only home care. After the initial 72-hour period, I felt I wanted a little more assistance so I signed up for a couple of 9-hour shifts, and that was all I ultimately needed. They were very flexible in providing this assistance, as I was unsure how much time I would need in order to take care of myself safely, and they still managed to schedule great people for me. Everyone I interacted with at the agency was professional and accommodating. The caregivers (there were several for 24/7 coverage) were caring and delightful. The house and kitchen were kept clean and tidy. As such, I highly recommend working with this agency should you find yourself needing this type of care.
