While I am excited about the new features ahead, I am so disappointed (and disgusted) by the state of the pool areas. The therapy pool is crowded with unsupervised children, and yesterday it was green and cloudy. Kids are jumping in, pushing each other and playing in the water with no employees to monitor the area. The large family pool was also full of kids (great!) with no one watching. When I am there, I feel compelled to act as lifeguard because it is very risky to see no one paying attention. I literally kept a child from drowning twice yesterday. This was a small girl who could barely keep her head above water. The mother sat in the hot tub for hours just reading a book and ignoring the (5) children. The adults only spa is filthy. There was trash on the ground. The family pool was filled with debris. These are not one time things and not only is it dangerous for kids, it can be unpleasant for adults as well as unsanitary. Please continue to make these amazing upgrades but spend some money on improving what exists already. Hire a few people to monitor the pool areas (there used to be employees making rounds regularly). I'm sure all of those rules were created for everyone's safety, health and wellbeing. Bring back the resort style vibe the pool area used to have instead of the public pool vibe is has now. read more

Too many complaints from customers after cancellation. After someone cancels n pays the fee, months late they get threatened with messages or emails stating that they still owe. AND, the 'false charge' gets reported to the credit agency. Because of this continuous problem, I WILL NEVER SIGN A CONTRACT WITH THEM!!!! read more

I don't even live in Northern California anymore and when I call to cancel I'm given attitude or told to just message them to which they never reply, they're all about you when they're trying to get you to sign up but will avoid you when it's time to cancel, when I signed up I told the woman I would only be living in Chico for a few months and she said it would be fine to cancel but now I'm going on my second month trying to cancel and will most likely have to be the $100 cancel fee in addition to unused gym months which she told me I wouldn't have to worry about paying since I would be moving. I don't even know what to do next cause I can't get a reply from them, my next steps will have to be the better business bureau and consumer protection which is just a big hassle on my end, yes this gym is nice if you're planning to stay in Chico for the rest of your life but if you're a college kid or just staying for a bit the trouble is not worth it. read more

This is a long overdue review. I moved from Chico to the Bay area a few years ago and no gym is the same after going to In Motion Fitness. I love how spacious and incredibly clean this gym is. I genuinely enjoyed being a club member here a few years ago and am writing this review because I miss it so much and am sad there's nothing like this in the Bay. The body is a sanctuary and having a place that is full of good vibes and beautifully designed really helps prepare the mind for a great workout. Amenities galore! In motion is the best gym in town. Has all the amenities you could want or need. The staff is super nice and the gym is always very clean.

Gym is good, once construction is complete hopefully parking gets better it's a nightmare. Better selection of sports on the TVs would be nice, staff is always available to help but watch options are very limited. I would say yes to in-motion fitness! read more

Parking is terrible and the gym is overcrowded most of the time. Even looking past the current construction that's going on I don't think the parking situation will get any better. The locker room is old and dingy and I don't think they ever clean or sanitize the sauna. The sauna is a free for all and no one follows the rules nor does the staff care. Most of the equipment is old especially the treadmill and stair steppers. I am looking forward to my contract being up so I can cancel my membership. I have a contract that I can't get out of without paying $100 but they can increase my membership without any notice. Seems one sided. I am very disappointed with the gym. read more

I'd really love to know how Carl (the owner) has full filled his claims of ensuring the morbidly obese member who uses the pool as his own personal bath tub has been working on on his hygiene. Lol Do you follow him around and ask him to shower before entering the pool fully clothed? More over Carls claims of 25 years of positive history and clean establishment stands to be challenged by the 3 star yelp review and these other members must not agree with him. If the owner cared about his members, he would, some money back into the business. What in the World is the owner ( and Backers) thinking with this new ridiculous addition? A Speak Easy?? ALL those Expensive chandeliers? Taking away necessary parking spaces, and WHERE is the entrance to Kids In Motion going to be, or will there even be one? It is A HUGE hassle delivering And picking up grandchildren. I totally agree with another review, saying the management needs to pay More attention to the pool area, cleanliness and maintaining what they Do have, rather than these frivilous additions. We've been loyal members of this gym for almost ten years and have always loved it -- great facilities, friendly staff, and a family-friendly atmosphere. Unfortunately, that's changed recently, and not for the better. The new childcare sign-up system is a complete letdown. You now have to reserve a spot for your toddler days in advance, which would be fine if there were actually spots available. But they're consistently booked out well ahead of time, making the childcare benefit practically unusable. We're paying $175 a month for a family membership that's supposed to include two hours of childcare daily -- yet we can't even access that anymore. It feels like we're paying for a service that no longer exists. If this is the new normal, it needs to be addressed -- either by expanding childcare availability or by being upfront that the included childcare isn't reliably accessible. Right now, it's incredibly frustrating for families who joined (and stayed) because this was a reliable, family-friendly gym. I would like to add that clearly they make enough money to hire more staff or to even expand the childcare area. (They're adding a second story and like three more workout rooms) unreal. read more

Overall pretty decent gym. The place is a complete maze though so if you've never been be prepared to be lost for the first few weeks. Bathroom are just as much as a maze as the rest of the gym(at least the men's bathroom is) Even in the peak times there is enough equipment to get your workout in. read more

I enjoy this gym, but I do think they can work on making sure the place stays clean. The new areas they have built are cool, but it would be nice if they did not have something being built all the time. The parking lot is limited due to construction, and it is hard to find a time when it's not overcrowded. They do have overflow parking, but not somewhere I would feel safe parking regardless of cameras. The staff is always kind, and the price is not too bad for all that they offer. read more

My experience with "In Motion Fitness" was one of pleasant discussion. The worst I can remember was having to wait (5, 10, 15 minutes) for one of their membership staff to discuss my joining the gym. Value: 5 stars. The place has almost everything. Multiply pools to swim or soak in. They have both a sauna and steam room. There is a basketball court, along with several rooms for a variety of fitness classes. They have daycare services so you can bring your kids. A lot of families come here with their kids. Quality: 5 stars. They provide rags and towels. Their showers could use some more pressure and better handles. The equipment is in good condition and is across multiply rooms and two floors. If their is a problem it is with the parking and the times when the gym is crowded. A natural sign that a place is popular. read more

Good gym. Has a a few different areas to workout and many machines. Classes included with membership which I've yet to take advantage of but soon will. Could use some attention on the main floor on dumbbells...many of them have the rubber damaged on the end of it and as for me they have cause deep bruises on my quadriceps when I use my legs to push off when doing chest workouts...there also a lack of barbell clamps. Never seem to find any one the floor... most I've seen is maybe a couple pair... could use some extra ones. Steam room is still not up and going: been there for 2 mths; not sure how long it's been down for!? Grounds do seem pretty clean and locker rooms have been clean every time I go. For a gym this busy and the cost per month: it has several pairs of dumbbells that need to be replaced with good quality ones. read more

They barage me with texts because someone spoofed my number. Please don't ever give this institution your private info, as they do not care. I used as a drop in while visiting Chico after driving from the Bay. Two hours later I left and have to write this review. I worked out in the outside area on. A cold rainy night. Loved watching the lap swimmers while doing cardio: then was surprised to see I could do a weight circuit outside too. Following weights, I showered in the clean locker room and dod mild water work in the medium size pool. I think it was saltwater. Then to a warmer pool. Did not use the spas as they were full of men. So I rinsed off and returned to the locker room: did some had weights in the women's only area and finished with 10 minutes in the sauna. Great gym I hate that I moved away from Chico because every gym will be a downgrade compared to this one. Anyone who complains it's "too busy" are usually talking about peak hours where it will be the same anywhere else. I never really had to wait for a machine or saw anyone else waiting. read more

This place smells like an armpit and is usually so crowded that it's hard to use the machines that you want. But that's not even my main issue; we tried to cancel because it's too expensive and so they added on a big cancellation fee on top of making us pay an additional month that we wouldn't be using, and kept harassing us again and again for payment. Use to go to in motion when I lived in Chico and still use it occasionally. Their prices are astronomical and not even close to the regular market price that other, real A+ quality gyms, charge. Looking at all of the reviews, there tends to be a consistent trend of bad experiences and "surprises". In Motion's equipment is not "state of the art" therefore they should not being using that as their main point for the high price structure. Kind of crazy how the community lets them do this. Was told that the cancellation fee was $50 from Mia. When I go to cancel the staff told me it was $100 because I have not been their for more than 6 months and the cancellation fee is only $50 when you have been their for 6 months plus. Mia was not clear about this and she made it sound like it was $50 cancellation fee anytime. On top of that they forced me to pay the next month fee even tho I don't wanna be coming here the following month. When I tried to cancel they guy upfront told me I could just "pause" my account for 3 months until I reach my 6 month mark, but what's the point if I don't wanna be their?! The pause fee is $30 and for every month you have paused is $10 so basically they wanted me to pay $60 for not going to the gym, then if I were to cancel I would have payed the $50 fee after reaching the 6 month mark then the fee for the following month all because they want to take my money. They guy tried to fínese $180 out of me just for pausing my account because I would have cancelled regardless if I came back in 3 months and have to dealt with the $50 cancellation fee. The main water dispenser upfront has been broken for weeks, their food court has also been closed for weeks, the pools close randomly as well with no warning, and machines have wear and tear on them and have even snapped of on me when using attachments. I pay to much money especially as a college student to be not getting what I payed for. Will be looking elsewhere. This place is all about money. Not happy with this experience, on top of that its overpriced. read more

I've been member for a while now and I feel like I can give an honest review of the facility. There is room for improvements but overall, this is a very nice facility (pricy but I think it's worth it). As far as improvements, I believe the small women's area could use some updated equipment. The treadmills seem really old and the front of it is peeling. The carpet too is dirty. The lighting could be improved near the exit to go to the outside area (there's equipment here) it seems pretty dark right there and kind of messes with my eyes. I love that there are multiple areas to work out at) My favorite spot is outside! The only downfall is the mosquitoes (beware lol) but other than that, it is so peaceful for me. There are not too many people out there during the morning time so it's nice & quiet. There is this small little fountain by these step up things and it makes things so peaceful (I may be over exaggerating) I LOVE that they offer 2 "free" hours of daycare, this is so convenient for us parents out there. My daughter has Autism and they have treated her just like any other child. I appreciate the girls who seem to enjoy their job in there. The hours for the facility are really nice & it gives everyone a chance to get in & get out. Please be mindful that there are "peak" hours. I try not to go during these times, mainly when there are a lot of teenagers because I feel like they hover around the equipment so it can be frustrating. However, it is nice to know that the facility is family friendly and majority of the community enjoys it. I haven't had any negative interaction with staff, they always say hello when I scan in & always answer any questions I have. I am looking forward to exploring the gym more & this "weight loss journey". One thing I wanted add that I think sets In Motion Fitness apart from other gyms is their reward program. I think it is really neat and it may motivate me members to keep on their journey. Today (3/8/22) I was there and this gentleman with his hair in a bun, was cleaning all the equipment. If I could give these guys a no star, that's what they would get! Most unprofessional general management I've ever had to deal with! If you want to spend a new car payment on a gym where you have to navigate through the clusters of children standing around not using the equipment or to have to wait for the cell towers to stop instagramming on machines so you can get in and use a machine or a workout station be my guest. They keep raising the price of membership with NO announcements, letters or emails while in a binding contract. Garbage gym!! read more

I won't be signing up due to how hard it is to actually sign up and get ahold of anyone. I called a few weeks ago and was transferred to the proper department but the line hung up on me. Called back earlier this week feeling maybe it was a fluke-- same thing. Finally I reached out on Instagram and after a day got a note back saying someone would reach out via text. I got the text and replied with a few questions almost immediately. That was yesterday-- still nothing back with my questions. I'll pass. If this is the service while trying to sign up I'm scared to know how you'd actually speak with someone after you're locked in a contract. read more

We contacted In Motion becuause we wanted to go there and sign up. The text received was very abrupt and without even the courtesy to introduce oneself or even ask what we were looking for before throwing prices at as. We did end up going in for a tour and we couldn't see a free bench or weight to use anywhere. Plus, it was priced almost triple of the other gyms we went to. Only those other gyms didn't over crowd their membership and had a places to work out. In addition,   In Motion has substantially gone down hill over recent years with the entire facility being cluttered with non functional equipment spaces , a completely ruined and awkward pool area, as loss of any of the services expected by a "nice" gym such as a basic towel. I remember how amazing In Motion was years ago and totally worth the price. Whoever is making the decision now has only made one giant mess. read more
