I made an appointment a 6:00 PM appointment for yesterday, to see Alicia before she leaves on a trip. I went through the website, chose my time, selected my stylist, doubled checked everything, and hit confirm/send/whatever button finalizes the transaction. An email confirming this arrived soon after. I put it in my calendar. All done, right? Apparently not. After driving 30 min to get here I was informed I did not have an appointment. I explained exactly what I did and was then gobsmacked to hear that after I book an appointment online the email I got has a code in it that I then need to enter online in order to REALLY confirm the time slot. Then, after that's done you apparently get 2 more confirmations before your appointment. You'd think this is scheduling surgery or something. This has got to be the most inane, idiotic approach to scheduling I have ever seen. Everywhere else on the planet, when you hit CONFIRM, that's that. You're in. Why am I, the customer, who made an appointment, being asked to do so much work just to keep it? But what if I don't show up, you're asking? H&N has my CC on file, so if the policy is you get charged if you don't show up, and I've acknowledged that somewhere on their site or by simply booking the appt, then that's on ME. Luckily, Alicia was able to get me in after first agreeing the stay late, but then her last appt canceled so I got in sooner. But if I had driven all that way just to be told my appt I definitely booked wasn't going to happen for a WEEK... this review would've had a harsher tone. I'm not jumping through a series of hoops to keep an appt I made and if that's going to be the policy here in perpetuity then I'll spend my money elsewhere.

That's why I stayed with them even when other locations had lower rates or the same rate. It had worked for me... until this week. I checked my bank statement yesterday and saw a $96 charge. That's a 20% hike with zero warning - no email, no text, & nothing in the app. I searched every folder in my archived inbox (I keep everything) and found nothing from this location. When I texted the shop, they said "We emailed you in May." If they did, it never got to me. I haven't even been able to get a service here since Dec 16th 2024 because appointments are impossible to find due to my schedule. I've been driving to other H&N locations just to use the membership I'm paying for. The good: - Most barbers are pretty solid, though results can be hit-or-miss with a couple - The owner's wife does fantastic job with facial waxing - The owner himself seemed friendly (on the couple of times I've met him) The bad: - Surprise price hike for longtime members. - No verifiable notice or prior explanation. - Limited appointment availability at my "home" location. I asked them to cancel my membership on the spot - paying nearly a hundred bucks a month for something I can rarely book there (and with no heads-up on price changes) isn't worth it. Other H&N locations that I go to have membership fees (for new members of $80-$88 a month like at Valencia or Echo Park. It's too bad they couldn't have done these price hikes with more finesse and not just hiking me up to new-members rate

Because you can't book specific stylists, you don't always get the same person, and consistency can sometimes vary. Today, I shared some of those past consistency issues with Chandler, and she was incredible. She really took her time, checked in with me throughout the entire cut to make sure I was happy with the direction, and even explained the nuances of why a cut might sit differently from time to time. She is meticulous, highly skilled, and has a great eye for detail. If the booking system allowed me to schedule an appointment with Chandler every single time, I absolutely would. I decided to treat myself to a nice haircut and this place popped up first on Yelp. Upon walking in, I was comforted to see a smaller, homey yet upscale environment. The owner and stylist Krista is hands down incredible. Her warm spirit, welcoming smile, and detail to the haircut are among the best I've experienced. Even going further to offer a robe, so that my shirt wouldn't get hairs on it, something I was sadly used to at all the other spots I tried. In terms of the cut, I took a few images for reference of the style I wanted and Krista not only explained how to get the cut, but also told me how to get there realistically and her personal opinion on it. Normally when you go to Barbers, you tell them what you want and they just give it to you. But here, it was a perfect balance of what I want and what would look good. In terms of the price, expect a more expensive cut ($65). But you're going for the experience and the cut. Both of which Krista can provide. Wow... I'm shocked to even have to write this review. I will start out by saying that the owner has…read moreoffered me a full refund. I am going to take her up on that, considering the fact that I left this place with a botched haircut from a stylist named Cassandra. I did not let the owner know that my cut was unblended and poorly executed, because I had not noticed until yesterday. This was after I got a closer look at my hair and after the blowout faded. Unfortunately, as clients, we don't get to see all the mistakes when we leave the salon with a blowout because it hides a lot. Especially with layers. I'll spare you the all gritty details because I've already made the owner aware of Cassandra's awful attitude. However, for context, I saw her twice total and got a weird vibe from her the first time, as she made me feel like an imposition for having dense hair and running into her next appointment. Mind you, I considerately got there 10 minutes early to give time for my first appointment consult. She was visibly annoyed throughout the appointment and did not try hiding it. When I got there for my second appointment (again, I wanted to give the benefit of doubt because I did like the results first time around), I was met with immediate hostility. I was so confused. I'm a nice person?! So, as soon as I realized that she wasn't having an off day (during my initial experience) and this just happened to be how she is, I was concerned. She was unbelievably passive aggressive and rude. At one point, I told her assistant that he was doing a great job because I could tell that he was just starting out. Cassandra interjected and said, "he is doing a good job but he needs to learn." Who says that to a client...? And why not just let the man enjoy a compliment? When I called the owner to let her know, she did express that Cassandra is not a warm person. But this went way beyond that. I'll post photos of my botched cut as well as the inspiration photo that I showed her- which by the way, when I presented my inspo photo, Cassandra asked, "what's wrong with that girl's face?" You would think this would be common sense, but when your client is showing you an inspiration photo, maybe don't make fun of it. Again, common sense. All in all, I got a bad hair cut with extra attitude on the side. I'll pass on both.
