Very late review as my wedding was July 2022.... No first dance, song was corrupt, failed to check prior to wedding day... just moved on and brushed off like it didn't happen. Embarrassing, and disappointing as can be on your wedding day. As a woman you wait your whole life for your first dance and it was ruined. Called me by the wrong name all night MC failed to entertain guests, didn't get guests up and moving. Had "after the tone" phone in hallway, failed to promote it throughout night. Led to us not having everyone's audio footage due to them not knowing. Provided song list for DJ of songs to play/not play. Didn't follow. Lost the paper, MOH had to scramble to find it behind the DJ booth. Just really disappointing and looking back on it.. I should have complained a lot more. Wow, what a night! This is our second time booking with In The Mood DJ. The first time was for my daughter's Christening. And now we just hired them for my daughter's Sweet 16. I had an instant connection with Amanda from the moment I called. Such an amazing person. Felt like I have known her for years. She explained to me the costs of the packages with the additional add ons. Never felt pressured into anything. They had the best prices for what they offered. We decided to add the Photo Booth and that was a big hit! Amanda paid attention to every detail. She actually ran the Photo Booth, and I was so glad she was there. Our amazing Dj Moe, played all the songs my daughter and her friends listen to in this day and age. And our amazing MC James kept the party going. This business is conveniently located off route 347, accessible from L.I.E. or Northern state pkwy. I was deterred from checking it out related to the online reviews. Then i remembered the public and how many dynamics play a role in how we perceive a plave, pur feelings when greeted, sold a service or how we feel upon departure. They are affordable, professional, complete in meeting needs for weddings, party's, bbqs, picnics and all entertainment purposes. A good local "small" business in the outskirts of Smithtown. I am not sure why the rating for this place is so low on yelp. I found them very helpful and professional with good attention to detail. I hired In The Mood to provide the lighting and fog machines for my wedding last weekend and everything went off without a hitch. They were easy to book and even added services when needed. I was the maid of honor at my best friends wedding in July of 2015. She went with In The Mood because of their packages. She got dj photo booth and video. The only reason this review has any stars at all is because of the photo booth and the assuming teenager running it was awesome fun and helpful. The dj however did not play the songs requested. Stopped songs in the middle to switch to songs people didn't want to hear. She also paid for a singer to sing during dinner....it ended up being the emcee, who was nasty because people weren't listening to him. This said emcee ruined the entire bridal parties entrance. He announced someone else as the best man, forgot a maid of honor, so all of the entrance music was off. read more

Before my wedding I would have screamed from the roof tops that In the mood was the dj for you. They were amazing as they were taking my money. That being said, I wouldn't recommend them now. There were many, many things that went wrong on my wedding day including half of my bridal party being introduced incorrectly (some names were never said at all), my dinner singer was also my MC which ruined the whole "wow of the singer" in the first place and then he topped it off by telling my guests to be quiet so they could hear him among other rude comments he made throughout the night (Charlie is his name), songs not being played or being played at the wrong time and my videographer not coming to all parts of my day despite my contract stating they would be there "from beginning of ceremony through end of reception." When I went to speak to the Owner Mike and the man who sold us all of this stuff Rob, they were less than apologetic. They said they heard it was a good party and they don't understand why I am upset. I was also told that my complaints are "trivial." I would not recommend In the Mood to be at your baby's first birthday, let alone the most important day of your life. They are rude, unapologetic and made excuses for all my complaints. The worst part was it took them all of 2 seconds to throw their workers under the bus. They blamed their videographer for not coming to the in between but really it was because they didn't tell him. They were unprofessional when he proceeded to tell me that my maid of honor who wrote a small yelp review "had no right to write a review and it was not nice and not fair" even though her entrance was messed up. I was incredibly disappointed in the services provided for my wedding but even more so by how the owner of this business and his right hand man carried themselves and responded to the situation. My advice to anyone looking for a DJ company is that if you want a glorified IPOD then In the mood is the dj for you but if you have requests, details, arrangements and wants, then take your money elsewhere because these men don't know how to get the job done right. read more

They were recommended by the wedding venue as they are close by. We went with a music and video package. Everyone there was nice, but I do not feel they listened to our song requests at all. We specifically said we don't like 'current/top -40' style music and have a lot of older generation attendees. We requested Motown/ Michael Jackson and even gave a very detailed list. Unfortunately there was a lot of music, at least half, that not only did we not like but we did not want. Our DVD was very good and came very quickly, however we weren't asked ahead of time what song(s) they would use as the background in the DVD and I wish they had. I know you can't please everyone, but weddings are expensive and when you are given a direction to go with from paying customers that should make it easy to come up with a playlist, I'm sorry to say both my husband and I were disappointed in the overall music at our wedding. read more

So happy I already a booked a DJ, prior to attending the Lombardi's on the Bay wedding showcase and it is not with In the Mood. They asked my fiance and i to help them out (offering us money), all they wanted was for us to enter the room when they introduced us as husband and wife and dance to our wedding song. They did not play our song nor did they even attempt to play a slow dance song. Instead we were completely confused, given no direction and announced into the room with the song Bringing sexy back (totaly inappropriate). It was an extremely awkward experience. They are not prepared, ill organized and very unprofessional. read more

Looking for a Reliable DJ ? Go elsewhere. Showed up very late for a 60th BIRTHDAY Party, after myself making several un answered calls,Bob the Dj finally showed, not a word of apology. From him or the company's owners, they didnt care,im sure it was because they've already been paid in full ,weeks prior. This should of given me a clue,never again.As stated go elsewhere for A DJ Company. I honestly don't understand where all of these poor reviews are coming from since In The Mood DJ Productions was THE best DJ company I have ever used for an event. I booked them for my daughter's Sweet 16 and they completely made the entire party. From the music, to the intelligent light shows, to the MC, and everything in between they couldn't have done their job better. They truly made my daughter feel like she was a queen and everyone enjoyed the party very much! The DJ & MC got everyone up and dancing. I used In the Mood for my wedding reception on 8/23/13. We used them because we saw them at one of our cousin's wedding and thought they did a great job playing great music and getting people dancing. They did the same for our wedding. They were great. Dance floor was full all night and the MC was great! Sometimes they can be annoying or dance or talk too much or not enough but this guy was perfect. I felt they were very negotiable with price. The only complaint I had was that I did give a list of songs I wanted played and many were not. On the checklist they give you I did say I wanted an announcement made for my center pieces to be given away and I wanted the through the years dance and these things weren't done. Honestly it's really not a big deal. I was so busy and having such a great time I really did not realize until the night was over. If you really want things done that are on your list I would make sure to be super specific and pushy about it. My husband wanted to dance with his sister to a specific song and I called about a week before to ask if we could do this with no response. My husband called a few days before the wedding and spoke to someone who was dismissive and said he doesn't handle that and we are to call back. I finally emailed the owner with my concerns and received a prompt response that it was no problem. I really do not want to complain about this company because they really were great and I would use them again, those were just a few little things that kept me from giving that last star.
