I have been here a number of times, usually to hit up Trader Joe's but there's also a nice Best Buy (that does auto installations), Pisces all-you-can-eat sushi, Lost Worlds Brewing, and now 3rd & Fernwood which was my destination today (Yelp elite event!). There's bunches more of retail and restaurants. The tall parking deck worked well on a quiet midweek evening but during the holiday shopping season, it will be a real challenge. The deck is clean, well lit and I did see security on patrol. As always, be aware of your surroundings especially in or near the elevators and stairwells. I did not bring the Sprinter as there is a low height clearance. Two good access points from Kings Drive and Charlottetowne Avenue have traffic lights. Speaking of retail, we tend to visit Trader Joe's the most...but there are other big stores, like Marshall's and Best Buys. Now, there used to be some cool boutiques here, but I don't recall seeing them recently (possibly closed due to Covid?). Probably the coolest feature of this strip is this little alleyway with a great patio dining...with clear views to Uptown Charlotte. Recently, they've installed this fun Umbrella Alley" display...colorful umbrellas suspended in mid-air. Think it's a temporary exhibition? In any case, there's always something cool to do and see here at The Met...and despite the long drive from where we live, we tend to go here quite often. Guess it's worth it?

It tucked inside a few of the large buildings downtown and connect them all on one level. Not sure where you would technically say is starts but for me It begins in the Wachovia building (I think it truthfully starts in the BB and T building but I can't leave these few shops out in the Wachovia building) and continues all the way to the Hearst Tower. I have visited a lot of the shops and the restaurant inside. It's an escape from the elements outside and a cool thing to see. However on the weekends it's a ghost town. The mall caters to the working/ business people downtown. On the weekends only the section in the Bank of America plaza is open and only Walgreens and the lobby of the Omni seem to be open. There is security walking around though. There are several different entrances and exits for the mall. You can walk towards other building in the area and there are tons of tunnels and walkways that connect you to different restaurants and shops in those building. The only thing open in this "mall" was a Walgreen's in the BofA building, none of the passageways were open nor did any of the nearby hotel employees even know they existed. Apparently all there is to do in Uptown is eat or drink, as there is a wealth of great restaurant and bar options, but there is no retail whatsoever. None. Really and truly sad because it's such a beautiful city, but unless you're looking for a bar or restaurant crawl, or to watch one of the local sports teams lose, you'll have to go elsewhere.

Tucked behind an unassuming entrance on Tryon Street, this historic arcade transports you back to another era. Built in 1914 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the beautifully restored passageway connects Uptown's busy streets to a collection of locally owned restaurants, bars, and gathering spaces that feel both historic and modern. I love that the space encourages wandering. Take your time. Explore the storefronts. Grab a coffee, a cocktail, or a bite to eat. The skylit arcade, brick walkways, and European-inspired atmosphere make it feel unlike anywhere else in Charlotte. The real star here is the experience. You can stroll from Tryon Street through the arcade and emerge into Brevard Court, a lively courtyard filled with outdoor dining, people watching, and some of Uptown's most beloved local businesses. It feels intimate, walkable, and full of character. A word of advice: parking can be challenging. This is not a destination I'd recommend driving to unless you already have a plan. The best way to experience The Alley is on foot while exploring Uptown. Park in a nearby garage, take the light rail, hop on the streetcar, or make it part of a larger walking tour of the city. As someone still enjoying the process of discovering Charlotte, places like this make me appreciate the city's history and personality. It's compact, charming, and full of stories. Life is too short not to explore something new, Charlotte. Take a stroll through The Alley at Latta Arcade, slow down, and enjoy a piece of the city's history.

The amount of food choices is ridiculously good... from nicer restaurants (Mickey & Mooch, New South) to mom & pop shops (Akropolis Cafe, Charlotte Cafe, Sushiya Japanese etc) to chain (Qudoba, Nothing but Noodles, McAllister etc) to fastfood (McD, Chick-Fila, Taco Bell) to dessert (Ben & Jerry, Pinkberry), there gotta be something that will feed your belly within your budget. I stopped by yesterday at 2pm to get a late lunch (teriyake chicken plate at Sushiya for $5), came back at 5pm for an early dinner (gyro at Akropolis for $5.25), and back again at 8pm to satisfy my frozen yogurt craving ($3 at Pinkberry). And on top of that, I stopped by Walmart to get ingredients for mimosa. Where else can I stop by 3 times in 6 hours for all these different things in one location?! Bravo Arboretum, bravo...
