I have been using Independent Overhead Doors for all my investment properties for the last 25 years. Last week I called on a Monday and scheduled an appointment on Thursday. I had to take a day off work to meet someone to fix my garage door. Shane met me and after looking at the garage door opener, took out his phone and started to show me openers at Home Depot. He told me I could go buy an opener and then call in again and schedule someone to install it. I was a little confused since previously, the person that was sent out had equipment and was ready to sell me an opener and install it. After a bit more discussion, I asked if IOD had stopped selling openers. Shane then got mad and told me he had 5 other jobs that day and would have to come back later. So I asked again if he could do the job or not, and he agreed to do it but was furious. The good thing about an angry installer is he got it done in 30 minutes. When I checked the opener, there were no lights when it closed. Shane told me openers don't come with bulbs. I'd have to put them in myself. So now, this 70 year old woman has to climb a ladder and install the bulbs. Exactly what I was trying to avoid. I called Doug after the installer left and told him I was very disappointed and won't be using his company again. Doug said, "Then why are you calling me?" This company is closed and only going through the motions of pretending to offer any services to customers anymore. Save yourself a lot of aggravation and call someone else. read more

While closing the garage door I heard a snap...the door stopped moving and the opener kept running to completion. Chain is hanging down, cable loose on top, oh oh, I knew I couldn't fix it. Door was half way closed so I closed it. Called Independent Overhead Doors and they came in the time window as promised (actually earlier!). Knowledgeable, friendly tech, went right to work diagnosing the problem all the while answering all of my pesky questions. He went to get the replacement parts, got right to work fixing the chain and cable that had broken and patiently answered more of my questions about the garage door. He noticed that the door was not installed properly and a part had been put on backwards so in the course of fixing the chain, he put the part on properly. He adjusted the door so it opened and closed correctly and lubricated the hinges and rollers. It took just over and hour to fix and the door was working again. I would recommend using this company for any garage door needs as they were quick to respond, charged a fair price and cleaned up after they're done. How often does that happen! read more

The torsion spring broke on my garage door, leaving my car locked in the garage. I called up Independent, and they were able to come out in 2 hours, and gave a two hour time window for arrival; which I appreciated. Cary looked at it, and gave me a fair price. Honest company - our garage door is very old. Despite this our tech said it's still a good door but did need a brace which he installed. New opener was recently installed by a different expensive highly rated company but didn't work right off and on, and their customer support was not the best. Independent Overhead Door provided excellent service. They were able to send someone the same day I called. Cary, the technician who came out, was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. The garage door in the house we just bought was disconnected and had not been used in over 20 years. I was sure we would have to buy a new one. Nope! Cary got ours working perfectly. He explained exactly what the problems were, and what he was going to do to correct them. He was even nice enough to install a used receiver and give us two used remotes. Last year we had a broken spring on our garage door which is 8 years old as was the house. When the service man came out, he told me that all off the springs needed replacing, and that if I didn't replace the rollers too, the garage door could come crashing down on my head, or a child's head and kill us. That was pleasant to hear. So I opted only for the spring replacement which he did for a whopping $515.00. After he left I noticed that the garage door sounded louder and shakier than it had ever before. I decided not to call him back because I felt I couldn't trust him. I imagined he would then tell me we needed another $500 of work done. Of course, I could've been wrong. So we lived with the noise for another year until I called another garage door repair that was recommended to me and goodness, what a difference. No scare tactics, no hard sales pitches, just straight forward and very pleasant service. I will be writing a good review about them, which is what prompted me to go back and write this negative review of Independent Overhead Doors. read more
