Moving from Atlanta, I thought I wouldn't be a able to find another decent Indian restaurant, but I am so happy to say i was wrong. Imagine this: Me, an avid Indian food lover decides to take a chance and take a friend of mine who has never tried Indian food in her life to an Indian restaurant. Said friend is skeptical of Indian food, although their cuisine has been around millenia longer than American cuisine, so they have had time to perfect the combinations of flavors, but she agrees to humor me. And it proceeds to rock her world. When we got to the restaurant at 1930, we were only the 2nd party there. At first, this seemed scary, but I trust my fellow Yelpers, so we marched on. Sitting down, the menus had a plethora of your typical Indian fare with Gobi Manchurian, my fave Indian dish if done correctly. It is fried cauliflower with a delicious sauce. I recommended one of the safe Indian dishes for my friend (Chicken tikka masala or chicken tandoori). The waiter also backed up my recs, and was super patient, answering all our questions. While waiting, we were given chutneys to dip the chip like snack, and upon trying one of the chutneys, I noticed a pleasant level of spice, which was ranked at a zero by our waiter. I decided on the Gobi Manchurian and upon visualizing the first patron's chicken tandoori arrive, my friend decided to go with that order. Based on the fact, the chutney was ranked a zero and still was spicy, we went with a level one for spice. Our food arrived within a reasonable amount of time, but during that time, approximately four other parties arrived. This place was happening! And the service did not suffer whatsoever. Our food arrived, and my Gobi was amazing. Spice level of one was barely discernible. My friend was silent after taking the first few bites of hers, and finally said "wow, I like Indian food." She also did not notice any spice. She even ventured to take a bite of my Gobi, although she said she typically didnt like cauliflower and again had the same reaction. She is officially a convert. Needless to say, great food, excellent service, and this place has lifelong customer. I will definitely bump up the spice on the next visit though. read more

We ordered a number of to-go meals to be shared between 3 families. Everything was delicious!!!! My family had the shrimp biryani and the Goan shrimp curry as well as the vegetable samosas and garlic naan. The Goan shrimp curry was definitely my favorite! read more

Don't you hate it when you place a to go order, get there and food is not ready? Well, that wasn't at all the case with India Palace! Good was timed perfectly and everything was ready quick. Being located in some random strip mall, it's a pretty typical spot to find an Indian restaurant. Hey, that beats having one in an office building basement, I've somehow had a chance to experience multiple of those and trust me, the smell of Indian food and office are just not a good combination. Anyways, Chicken 65 was decent, but to be frank I wasn't a big fan of their preparation. I've had many before and here, it was just too saucy, didn't have enough kick for a spice level 7 and wasn't served with fresh onions on the side. I think that dish needs some work here. Tandoori nann was made just right and the chicken tikki masala was great as expected. Overall, it's a spot I'd return to. Excellent Indian Food! Great find in Montgomery Alabama. Located just off Eastern Blvd and Vaughn Rd in Vaughn Plaza close to Office Depot and ME Salon. Some of the best Indian food I have ever had! 5 stars. Great service and nice and clean as well. Lunch buffet for 4 plus 4 chi's for $52 was an excellent value. I've only been here once for dinner. I've been too scared to try Indian food without someone guiding me, so I enlisted the help of my native friend and I chose the very item that he didn't explain to me haha! I got the chicken afghani( it was a sweet mango sauce, which I got spiced up (level 9 out of 10). I'll say that Indian spicy is pretty spicy. I wasn't nose dripping or sweating, but my lips and tongue were burning. The garlic naan and regular naan were warm, crisp, and soft. The mango lassi was like a mango smoothie, but the serving was only like 8oz, so it was gone in like three sips. Everything looked appetizing and the smells were all great. Service was fair - got everything we asked for. The prices were all very, very fair. Entrees ranged from $12-17. Overall, no complaints, it was a very pleasant experience. I was with a group of people so we ordered several dishes: mango chicken, vegetable korma, coconut chicken, eggplant, chicken karai and pakora. Absolutely everything was delicious, fresh and tasty. We came in and were seated around 7pm and didn't get our food after 740pm. There were 7 tables in the whole restaurant and 5 of them have already gotten their food; so we didn't expect to be a long wait. Anyway, the food finally came and it was amazing. We ordered lamb pakal and chicken tikka masala. Lamb pakal has a rich flavor and chicken tikka masala is sweeter than what I had before and with a hint of mango taste or something fruity. We actually talked to the server and he said no fruit is in the recipe. They both came with rice. We also tried out the original naan too. The only thing I can say something about is the rice, somehow is clumped. I would think the rice has been sitting for a while to get clumped, but other than that, food taste fresh. read more

We found this restaurant just off the interstate near Montgomery while looking for vegan & vegetarian options. We showed up just before they ended the lunch service but they were very friendly & seated us without hesitation. The food was all great & I appreciate that the vegetarian dishes are kept separate from the meat dishes, making it that much easier for us to eat animal-free. read more

Wow. This is by far the best Vindaloo I have found. The staff is incredibly attentive, and friendly, and we both greatly enjoyed our meal. I went for the lunch buffet and was pleasantly surprised. The quality of food was good as was the variety of choices offered. I tried a little of everything and all were quite delicious. Atmosphere is blah (reminded me of Al Bundy's shoe store) but the price was reasonable, parking ample, quality good and the portions, well...its a buffet so there ya have it. I was not expecting this. The endless push south down 231. No amount of podcasts can penetrate the critical mass of blank pine flatwoods, bait stores, and Chick-Fil-As. Lunch in Montgomery. I know nothing of Montgomery beyond its civil rights history and Zelda Sayre. I entertain brief dreams of rescuing the princess from some pig-faced demon whilst navigating the Civic among camouflage-painted trucks that are, presumably, left unscrubbed of their perpetual spattering of mud on principle. Can Yelp tell me more, or am I doomed once more to douse some waffle fries in Polynesian sauce? It directs me to India Palace, a spot in a strip mall shared by seemingly every other pan-Asian place in the greater metro area. I am undeterred by this. Years of living in the South have taught me that A) the best food is sometimes in strip malls, B) you shouldn't be afraid of restaurants in massive, seemingly deserted parking lots, and C) the quality of the restaurant has little or no relationship to the amount of cars parked outside. Even given these qualifiers, though, this is maybe the best Indian buffet I've ever visited. No joke, people. I say this as someone who's eaten at Indian buffets across the country, at every opportunity where I'm eager to gorge myself on fats and carbohydrates in a minimum of time. The Indian buffet is a fairly standardized offering, not a bad thing, but inspiring weariness after many iterations. To wit, it contains: 1. Naan. Always the naan. A bit dry and crusty from being under the heat lamps. Sometimes garlic naan too, which on the buffet is indistinguishable from ordinary naan. 2. Chicken tandoori, nestled on a bed of onions and cilantro that no one ever eats. Always drumsticks. Generally bland. 3. Saag. Sometimes saag paneer or chana saag. It doesn't matter. 4. Some other vegetarian dish, chana masala or something. The vegetarian version of chicken tikka. 5. Chili chicken. The Jim Belushi of the Indian buffet. It's in everything and is pretty tasteless. 6. Chicken tikka. It's orange and sorta tastes like tomatoes. 7. That weird gross tapioca rice pudding thing. 8. Those strange balls floating in the sugar sauce, presumably a dessert I guess? In other words, the most inoffensive offerings from the menu, produced in quantity and maybe a little the worse for wear having sat out for several hours. There are some minor variations (maybe some pappadum? Samosas? Mixed veggies?), but really not much deviance from the formula. At India Palace, my eye was immediately drawn to the curried goat, which I've only seen on an Indian buffet once before (owing to the unfamiliar meat, general spiciness, and preponderance of bones, it's not the most popular option). Then it wandered over to the middle of the buffet, to find none other than bhindi masala, the spicy okra dish so beloved at vegetarian Indian restaurants. Could this be possible? Was this just some freak occurrence because it was the weekend, or because I was woozy and disoriented from a whole morning on the road? It was real. And it was amazing. Even the standard offerings were excellent--the chicken tikka had a fantastic nuttiness that you so seldom see on the buffet line, the saag was prepared meticulously, and even the naan was decent. The chili chicken was meh, but why are you eating chili chicken, you idiot? I may have been there on a good day. I may have been hypnotized by the monotony of the highway and was so besotted by the prospect of eating something other than a deep-fried puck of gristle that desire lent spice to the meal. But this buffet, on this visit, was incredible. If I lived in Montgomery, I would eat here until I became a bloated, spherical ball of wobbling dairy fats and cardamom. read more

This is a fairly typical strip mall setup with plentiful parking. The interior is quiet and comfortable, neither shabby nor fancy. I went for the lunch buffet and it was good but I was a little surprised by a few things. First, the good: the pakora are lovely. Perfectly fried and with greens as well as onions. There were four vegetarian curries, rice, naan, and various sauces, raita, and kheer. Second, the bad: there was no dal, no papadams, and the only biryani had chicken. Third, the surprising: there were a lot of chicken dishes. I'm used to Indian places that aren't all vegetarian and vegan, but this was a lot of chicken. Maybe I'm not used to what to expect in Alabama? Likely. In conclusion, this is a totally decent but not mind-blowing place if you need a vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or no soy meal. read more

Nice starter (Papad), excellent place for date, also serve buffet everyday from 11:00 am till 2:30 pm with goat curry and gulaab jaamun. Paneer tikka seems not that authentic but still better than other Indian restaurant in Montgomery. Chana masala was excellent and naan too. I love trying new cuisines and my first time trying Indian food was at the Indian Palace. It came highly recommended from my coworkers and it did not disappoint. The staff went above and beyond explaining the dishes, spice levels, and answering my seemingly endless questions. That being said, the food exceeded my expectations. The meat was well seasoned/cooked, the rice was cooked perfectly (they kept it coming), and the naan was the perfect companion to every dish-light and savory. Everything about this restaurant is a winner for me. I've been back several times since my original visit and everything I've tried has been simply amazing. I was pleasantly surprised at the flavor and quality of this establishment. The service was decent and I really enjoyed the side sauces that came with the crispy lentil crackers. The thing that annoyed me was that when I asked how spicy I wanted my food the server told me that's not what I was going to get. He automatically told me that was going to be too hot for me and told me he wasn't going to make it spicy for me. Whhhhhhat??? I'm from the south. But Indian food is my comfort food. Everything sampled, tonight, was perfect. We had the appetizer sampler, chicken tikka masala, chicken korma, and the sheek kabob. The little kids had a mix plate of fries, chicken nuggets, chicken tikka (just the chicken, no sauce), mango juice, and naan. It was a big hit. The portions are generous and we took home leftovers. Food is actually pretty good for Indian in Montgomery, AL. I ate here twice before posting this. Second time there, I am chewing my food and bite into a staple. I bring it to the waiter's attention, without asking for anything to be removed from my bill, just to report that they should be more careful with what materials they have around their food in their kitchen because I'd id swallowed hay that, it could've been bad! Even worse if a little kid had done that. Of course, nothing was removed from my bill, just as I expected. I realize there is a language barrier but I made my concerns very clear. Moral of the story: be careful when eating out and chew your food carefully so you don't swallow things that aren't edible. read more

Having just moved to Montgomery and having only one option for Indian food, I was relieved to discover that the food is good! I'm no Indian food expert by any means but I thoroughly enjoyed what I ordered. I had the chicken tikka and found it flavorful and tender. The grilled veggies it comes with were plentiful and the dish came out steaming hot. The service was extremely friendly and we were please to have a decent selection of beers and liquor to choose from as well. Give it a try! read more
