India Palace is delicious, has a fantastic lunch buffet, and the people working there are always friendly and attentive. This is one of the restaurants where I'm always conflicted on what to order: I want to try all of the other delicious things on their menu, but my regular orders are SO tasty I usually just go for them (palak paneer and goat kadai, I recommend either of these). There's not much I can say that the other reviews haven't, except that I used to live in Jersey City, which has a ton of delicious Indian/Pakistani restaurants, and India Palace is one of my all time favorites. I just finished reviewing BayLeaf, because I enjoyed it so much more than I enjoyed this place. We got the chicken saag, madras coffee, muligantwany soup and I was craving fish, so with the owner's recommendation, I went with the fish curry. We got a level 7 spice and our dishes were literally just filled with spice and barely any flavor. My fish was pretty bad. It tasted...sweet. Which was very very weird because fish curry is NOT supposed to be sweet. I threw it out after eating like two bites of it. The saag tasted frozen. The only redeeming thing was their coffee, which was strong. I will totally go to BayLeaf because their food was way fresher, and the taste was so much better. Coming back home to Montgomery was a little bittersweet because I had to say goodbye to such great food in Providence, so when my mom took me out to lunch here I was so pleasantly surprised! Simple yet really yummy Indian buffet that was super fresh! The rice pudding is delicious and the wait staff are super friendly. It's great for kids and large groups, too. Simply excellent Indian food. Started out great with pappadum and a couple of pickle bowls, then followed it up with a tremendous lamb rogan josh, garlic naan and the mixed appetizer plate. If you're looking for good, quality indian food (and yes, they have goat - awesome!) then don't hesitate - India Palace is some of the best Indian food I have had in the United States - and it's in Alabama. Stopped by last night on a whim and have now found my GO-TO Indian restaurant in Montgomery. Both the food and the service were excellent. My spouse and I ordered the Chicken Makhani and Dal (?) with regular nan. We are happy to have been offered a spice spectrum from 1( not spicy) to 10 (spicy). As lovers of spicy food, we opted for 7, which was perfect for us - somewhat intense but not overwhelming. The owner came out to greet us and noted that we like spicy food, which was particularly kind. The food was fresh, hot (temperature and spice), and the portion sizes were spot on. We were full when we left and ate about half of what we were served. I've rarely been so excited about leftovers. Highly recommended. read more

Absolutely FANTASTIC!! I have only been to a couple of Indian restaurants, but I don't see how it can get any better than this. One word sums up every dining experience I've had at India Palace: Flavor! The Chicken Biryani, Chili Chicken, Chicken Afghani and Chicken Vindaloo have all been excellent, especially since they customize the spice level to your preference. This place is on point. Really nice interior setup for group or date night. Bar room is nice also, nothing on tap, but surprising selection of beer I thought, including several IPAs and a scotch draft. Very clean including bathroom. Had the Lamb Palak... Very good. read more

The owners, chefs, and employees are very courteous and polite which is a plus. But the food speaks for itself: delicious authentic Indian cuisine. The buffet food is all prepared on the mild side for the average customer which is disappointing for me because I love the spice. For anyone who wants to try this cuisine I'd suggest going during their buffet lunch hours which gives you a great chance to sample a number of meals but you can order off the menu if you so please. This new spot in town was a selection for Mother's Day lunch. The staff is accommodating and and welcoming. They take reservations, so I called the day before just to ensure there was a table for my family when we were ready for lunch. The buffet is your traditional indian buffet, but when the food is that good you do not need to do anything fancy IMO - Selection of curries with different meats, white rice, yellow rice, vegetables, and of course naan. I've had Indian good all over the world and can you believe this is the best I've had??!! Right here in Montgomery Alabama? The portions are large and the variety you would expect as well. The staff is extremely friendly and will answer any questions. The staff is also very attentive...for example my drink was never empty as they filled it constantly. Great atmosphere and very clean. Delicious food and great service! It's in a sketchy location, but the food is worth it. I had the chicken tikka masala, and I have been craving it ever since. They will ask you how spicy you want your food on a scale of 1 to 10. I was happy with a 2 - not spicy at all. Everyone gets a plate, your main dish will come in a bowl, and the rice for the table is served on a large plate. Great for sharing. They will bring you more rice if you run out. The fact that this place has such high reviews is a little fishy. I'm sorry, but I have been to Indian restaurants a over this country and this is possibly the worst one that I have ever been to. I stopped in today for the lunch buffet. I have never had Indian food that I had to season with salt and pepper. It was actually exceedingly bland. If I wanted bland food, I would not be eating Indian. All the chicken was overcooked and dry. The sauces were all too runny. The wait staff was very pleasant, however. read more

Montgomery, give thanks for such an offering. I've had Indian food in many places here and abroad...and none were better than here. The measure must be the authenticity of the condiments...chutneys, pickles, dressings....the quality of the basmati rice, the use of ghee and not just butter, and the naan....India Palace nails them all and offers an exceptional curried goat on the buffet which is cost-generous for them as goat is expensive. The naan is served in small amounts so that it's always hot...and AND it's cooked in a tandoori oven. The host will always greet you warmly and often recalls details about you that surely show that customers matter here. This place is legit! Amazing food, great service and good prices. One of the few places in town where you get goat. The lunch buffet is well priced and offers a great variety of food. On Sundays they have a goat curry on the buffet that is one of my all time favorite dishes. Try the goat kadai off the dinner menu. They offer a military discount if you ask. Visiting alabama from california and decided to yelp indian food. I was excited to eat something either than southern food. I had the chicken tikka masala and loved it and came with rice. The masala sauce was creamy and you can order your level of spiciness (5) was perfect for me. The appetizer sampler was alittle smaller than expected, overall the samosa was freshly fried and along with their indian fritters. The garlic nann was delicious and tasted homemade. Mango lassi was thick but they do offer a cup of ice if needed. Overall great service and the food comes out quick. read more

The food here is absolutely delicious. I will be honest and say that my husband and I have never actually eaten inside the restaurant because we always order for pick up and eat at home. Having lived in quite a few large cities with delicious Indian cuisine (Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham) I was shocked to find a place of this quality in a town like Montgomery! It's not just great food--the decor is subdued, but tasteful. The service is excellent, attentive without coming anywhere close to pushy, and the staff exudes a genuine desire to make you feel welcome. But let's talk about the food! Haven't had a bad dish here: the lamb pasanda is creamy and has a great balance of meaty flavor and delicious spices and cream. The chicken vindaloo (they ask you to choose a spiciness level from 1-10; I choose 7 for that perfect sinus-clearing heat) is large chunks of white meat in a wonderful sauce. Their shrimp vindaloo is equally tasty, with nice well-picked shrimps and plenty of rice. Their nan makes an excellent side; particularly their garlic nan. For those who are fans of fusion, there's a whole section of the menu dedicated to Chinese-Indian fusion dishes. I haven't tried any, but a friend did, and said it was as good as everything else. If you're not sure about Indian cuisine, they do a buffet for lunch, but not sure it's available for dinner. So give it a try--whether for lunch, or dinner (they do takeout, too). Prices are definitely reasonable--mid-teens for entrees. read more

Everything fresh and well above average for an American Indian restaurant. Was surprised to see Chicken65 on the menu-as we've only ever found that dish in Southern India. Wait staff were top notch.
