Worst Chicken Do Payaja
Rana K.

This is the worst place for Indian Food. Never ever waste your money on their food. They're literally cheating people with Delicious items on their Menu. I ordered chicken do payaja and the photos are attached . Take a look of what I got. I wish I could provide 5 negative starts. Guys don't fall into the trap. I couldn't eat it at all.

Aloo Gobi

India Palace is so fantastic! I'm eating it right now, and the Aloo Gobi is so so good, and the samosas always taste fresh and good. Thanks for the amazing food friends. Thought I'd leave you a review today. Eaten your food many times, but, today is the day I celebrate you. Om Shanti Shanti Shanti

A small inexpensive buffet. All the basics. It is quiet and you won't wait for a table.

Shahi Flames - Vegetarian Thali platter and Naan with mango juice

Shahi Flames

3.5/5, +.5 for service…read more I'd say this is up there for Indian restaurants in Winnipeg. I've been to Shahi Flames a few times now, and usually the restaurant itself isn't too busy, but they do a lot of take out orders. It's a pretty large restaurant, so it concerns me slightly at how quiet it is each time. However the food's been consistent here and I've never had issues with food quality at all. My go-to dishes here have been the lamb dishes. I've had their Lamb Curry, Lamb Tikka Masala, and Lamb Vindaloo. All excellent, and you can adjust the spice levels as needed (I usually go medium; spicy is REALLY spicy). If anything I wish the glasses (for filling in water) were a bit bigger, and the water was not so...lukewarm. That's about my only complaint though, everything else about this place I love. Service has always been good here. Will continue to return for sure.

It is spacious but also intimate. When I was there I saw couples cuddling while they ate their meals. My friend and I loved our dishes. I tried the Vegetable Biryani with a side of raita. The waitress asked me if I wanted it spicy and I said no. The meal wasn't too spicy hot just a little bit which was good for me because I don't enjoy very hot things. I mixed the raita with the rice which cooled the flavor down a bit. I loved the big paneer chunks mixed in with the veggies in my rice. The pomegranate juice was okay, my friend's mango juice was sweeter and tastier though. My friend is from India and he said this restaurant has authentic Indian food. He completely approved his meal too, he had the Vegetarian Thali. He let me try some of the veggie purées and the rice pudding and both were super yummy. I'd love to come back and try more meals!

They offer a fairly substantial buffet, condiment bar and dessert station. It's difficult for me to describe the food holders but they were top shelf...the food wasn't open to the air nor topped with a cumbersome lid one had to wrestle with. That said, I didn't have the buffet because I had a particular idea of what I wanted to eat and wasn't interested in the expanse the buffet offered. I order salt Lassi, excellent exactly how I like it. For appetizer, I ordered "Gol gappa chaat", which has chick peas, potatoes and put into a light crispy shell. Delicious! The chutney add a little extra oomph to every bit. For my main, I ordered Anarkali, whose spices penetrated the vegetables as well as the shrimp. Delicious! I ordered Coconut naan and Chili naan mostly out of curiosity...as it's not something that is often available at Indian restaurants I've visited among my travels. That said, I could not enjoy them because they arrive at my table very early and without my main...almost as if the naan was an appetizer...which is very unusual in my experience. Lastly, I could not chose between a dessert I've never had (Rasmalai) and a dessert I alway have (gulab jamun)...so I ordered them both, which was a tremendous indulgence that I enjoyed in every sweet bite. The ambiance is second to none! But the restaurant for me doesn't get 5 stars because of the service...not that the server wasn't good, she was fine, attentive etc. but the long wait for the main that literally spoiled my naan ( it was cold) is something I'm not willing to forgive. The place was busy and perhaps thats why the kitchen was so slow. The food that I had though for the most part was delicious ! Very enjoyable, I'd certainly recommend them to anyone I know going to Winnipeg's downtown area.

Cilantro's Modern Indian Cuisine - Inside the Vegetarian Samosas

Cilantro's Modern Indian Cuisine

3.5/5, +.5 for service…read more This is the Cilantro's branch on Portage. I've always been a Gateway stan, since it's the original and I've always been treated well there. Went here for dinner with a friend recently, and noticed that the menu is different compared to Gateway. Lots more choices, maybe to cater the younger crowd here. I had the lamb rogan josh with medium spice. Excellent price for what you get, and the lamb + sauce were very flavourful. I however wish they offered a few more lamb pieces, it felt like I had to drink more sauce to make up for the lack of meat. Still good though! Service was excellent here. Overall I like the Gateway branch more, but there's some food options here that's not available in the northeast (e.g: more poutine options). So depends on what you want to have.

The Palak Paneer was pretty delicious but I wish it wasn't spicy hot at all....My friend said it was not going to be spicy hot but it did have a little kick to it-but nevertheless it was still tasty! The blend of paneer chunks and creamy spinach is great paired with the butter naan we had. The rice side is yummy mixed with that dish too! The rice we ordered is soft and light. The restaurant itself is clean and spacious. The employees here are really nice too.
