    Beautiful pond on the premises

I never knew this gem was less than 10 miles from home. It is a big park with water features, an abundance of green space, and best of all a little restaurant inside of it that serves hot dogs, fish and chips, ice cream and other fun fare. I got a chance to visit it during the Water Lantern festival event. I'll definitely be back!

A life long RI'er I actually had never been to slater park until today. Spacious with plenty of open space, walking trails, and fields. Kind of like Northern ri version of Goddard Park, only nicer. Defiantly will head back up sometime when I have more time to explore.

Beautiful park with plenty to do. Slater Park is nice for families. They have a carousel that is cheaper than the one at Roger Williams. They have a walking path around a pond, bike paths, a dog park, tennis courts, and a small little farm with animals. I didn't explore the park too much but I did take my daughter on a walk around the pond and I took her to the farm where we saw goats, chickens, and Donkeys.

Slater Park is ready for the Christmas Season. A must visit at anytime during the day or evening.

There is a wonderful Christmas Lights display here at the park. There is the carousel, train rides and a hay ride. There is a food tent, and a tent with music. I'm not sure how much longer the display will run, but if you get a chance, it was well worth coming down and checking it out! There is a lot of walking, so wear comfortable shoes. It is very dark, and parking is everywhere. It has certainly grown over the years, and so have the crowds.

Nice park for various different activities. Good for exercise, good for the kids, and dog-friendly. The park is pretty big and has many different areas/activities including a large playground, a little zoo, a dog park, an animal shelter, many trails to walk on, and much more! There are often events happening here as well which is great for families. There are plenty of places to picnic or to have a get together. There are no dogs allowed at the zoo, but there is a walking path behind the zoo that I sometimes walk my dog on. It is nice because he is able to see the chickens, goats, etc. He doesn't bark so the other farm animals are just as interested in seeing him as he is to see them ! :)

Slater is my nearest and dearest (park that is). Do you forget you are in the bucket when you step into it? Nope. Is it a swell oasis? Depends... I like Slater Park because it works hard to supply as much as possible to the city I am currently calling home. In the summer they had swan boats and a clam shack. In the fall, a smaller pumpkin spectacular. Now for the Yuletide, a very nice Christmas tree and night before Christmas story display. I can't wait for what spring holds. Slater is a relatively clean park with lots of baseball and the like fields, playgrounds, a historical building, access to the ten mile greenway, and is home of the RI Watercolor society. It's a nice sort of escape and allows for grilling, chilling, and a small bit of woods in a city that is known for being derogatorily being called the Bucket (I use it as a nickname and not because I potentially find it to be shit). They are willing to work with community groups and support other ideas and I will support them for that. Doesn't hurt they are the closet park to my apartment

I haven't been to Slater Park in 30 years, but I went tonight to the Room Full of Blues and Pops in the Park concert which was part of the Pawtucket Arts Festival. The park is clean, pretty and there was a lot of fun family activity going on. Room Full of Blues was great! It brought me right back to my college days. I was surprised that there was plenty of seating (lawn) left even after the concert started. Parking was available but was a little bit of a walk, shuttles were available if needed though. There were probably a dozen or so food trucks available as well. Unfortunately I wasn't able to see Pops in the Park, but I'll definitely be back next year!

This place is pretty nice. If you're into walking, they have pretty long paths that go all the way around the park. If you're into fishing, well... they have a pond where you can fish. Last time I was there, some kid swear he saw a trout. Not sure how I feel about the fishing since there are so many ducks and the pond is so small, but whatever. If you can dodge the duck poop, you can lay out in the grass in the sun, or in the shade, hang out in the gazeebo, or have a little cookout. The place is huge and it looks like they have different sporting events here too, but I've never partaken.

Great for walking...dog friendly. Better if you have a bike. Perfect for family gatherings and events. Good parking. I did the end Alzheimers walk and it was a wonderfully supportive environment. Great bunch of volunteers. Loved all the freebees from the sponsor companies. I do wish the park would employ more staff to clean up. People are less likely to litter if there is no litter to start. I did see trash in the underbrush. Maybe a yearly push to clean up. Like a clean our park event for the community.

I am so happy I am within walking distance of this park! Slater Park has a lot to offer...open spaces, walking paths, a playground, a snack stand, a carousel, a dog park, paddle boats, baseball fields, tennis courts, disc golf, farmers market, petting zoo, etc., the list goes on and on. I tend to walk over to the park to walk my dog. The one time we got ice cream at Len's snack stand and they even had a 'doggie dish' for my dog complete with a Milkbone on top! I also walk over to visit the farmers market. It's a small one but they have a lot of good, local produce. Christmas time at the park is especially beautiful. They decorate the park with over 200 trees and lights. It's quite magical! My only complaint is that I wish the green areas were better maintained and there wasn't broken glass everywhere. But if you're ever in the area, be sure to make a stop here. You won't be disappointed!

It's very kid friendly and there are tons of families there in a warm day. By the beach there are restrooms, picnic tables and a cafe that serves snacks, fast food and ice cream. You can walk a loop around the water which is very scenic and relatively easy on a paved road. Or you can venture off the road onto the many hiking and mountain biking trails that run through the woods. Bring decent shoes for this as the trails are relatively short but can be steep, rocky and muddy at times. It's beautiful and peaceful but also there are enough people out that a single woman alone could feel safe. Lots of people bring their dogs for walks here. There are also picnic spots with grills and areas where you can boulder and rock climb. Truly a lovely park that has something for everyone!

That said, as a life long RI-er this was one of those places that had been on my 'to-do' list for some time and I finally got around to getting there. Very mixed feelings. First, the amount of dogs off-leash is astounding. There was even one that came charging at me and I drew my pepper spray to prepare to use it, and the owner started freaking out at me. Luckly the dog stopped before I had to. The amount of landmines on the trails and road was absurd as well. It may very well be a nice place to walk and recreate, but if I have to consistently keep my head on a swivel for charging dogs and landmines then its not really worth it for me. That said, there are plenty of nice views and scenery. One could easily spend an entire day here just exploring and milling about. There's even a cemetery in the park as well, if you're into historical sites. So if you don't mind off leash dogs and have to watch every step you may still get some enjoyment out of it.

There is a large grassy area filled with toy houses that the kids can go inside. There are also some swings and a pretty toddler safe jungle gym. There are a few things about the jungle gym that aren't great for the under 3 crowd, namely a set of climbing rungs built for taller kids and there are 1 or 2 spots on the second level that don't have a railing so if your child doesn't understand how gravity works yet they are liable to step off the edge and fall 4-5 feet to the sandy ground. There is also a cement area with 2 toy basketball hoops that I've witnessed many a stumbling toddler fall on. I appreciate all the benches for parents and misc. caregivers to sit and chat (a big plus if you're there for 1-2 hours a day and don't feel the need to hover obsessively over your child). Best part is that it's gated and that almost every area of the park is clearly visible from every bench (again, great if your an aware, but not obsessive parent). The only major con is the cleanliness of the park, specifically the amount of trash on the ground. There are a few garbage cans but I regularly see people just leaving napkins and wrappers on the benches or ground. It would be great to see people throwing out their trash or seeing the city clean up once in a while. Another lesser con is that nobody bothers to throw away any broken toys, there have been a few times that I've had to deal with a baby crying because I wouldn't let him impale himself on a jagged, broken shovel piece. So that's less than ideal.
