My family and I shared the chicken vindaloo, tandoori chicken, naan, and a chicken tikka salad, and every dish was a hit. The tandoori chicken came out sizzling on a cast iron plate with a smoky flavor, charred on the outside and perfectly tender inside. The vindaloo had a rich, spicy red sauce that was absolutely delicious. It does have a kick, so I'd only recommend it if you enjoy spice, but it paired perfectly with the rice and naan. Go try this restaurant! It's Indian food with unique flavors, everything was well seasoned and there is a large variety of items to try. My favorite were the shrimp korma (in a creamy, curry sauce) and the tandoori salmon (the whole fish was marinated well). The naan was fluffy and warm. This Monroe, CT restaurant has fabulous authentic Indian food at reasonable prices. We have been coming for years and everything we order is always delicious. Our son and daughter in law come from NYC to join us and it is their favorite Indian Restaurant. Tonight we had Samosas and Chicken Tikka Roll as appetizers followed by Lamb Curry and Chana Saag. In the past we have had Chicken Korma, Chicken Masala, Chicken Jalfrezi and Lamb Biryani. Everything is well seasoned, the portions are generous and we are never disappointed. Great little hole in the wall that I would recommend for take out! We ordered for a bunch of people at the house and it came out very nice. The chicken tandoori had lots of flavor and was juicy. The salmon tandoor was grilled to perfection and had lots of nice veggies and peppers and onions. The Briyani rice was full of flavor and had fresh lemon on the side. Ordered takeout from this little spot (that looks like it's closed from outside) and we were so pleasantly surprised! The naan was unique - light and flaky and huge portions. We tried the keema naan and it was so freaking delicious. The garlic naan was just okay - seems like they caramelize the garlic or something, kinda sweet but odd flavor. We tried the sheep kebab appetizer - flavors were great, chicken was dry. Same for the chicken saag - the flavors and sauce we absolutely delish, but the chicken was somehow dry. The star of the show was the Korai lamb - like Indian hot pot?! Never had anything like it before and would definitely order it again and/or try one of the other korai dishes. They requested we pay in cash, and when we picked up the food, they ASKED for cash tip. we get home, take a bite of food, absolutely tasteless. They are good for a delivery on a cold cold night. Yes, they do deliver! And that is one thing they really do have going for them. The food is plentiful and the delivery is usually very quick and efficient. They have a nice menu as well with many choices. Prices are reasonable. I actually have never been inside this place so I can't describe it from that standpoint. I am not a big fan of Indian food but I have family members who are. And some of my family members have been inside and they quite like it there. And they seem to do a good business. My father is very picky and he loved his (tandoori chicken, basmati rice, and samosa) food, already made plans to come back on their Wednesday Buffet night. We went with friends to the Indian Raj restaurant for the Wednesday night buffet. Each couple had bought a Groupon. The Groupons cost $17 each, were worth up to $30 each for food, and mentioned no conditions. To make a long story short, they told us they would accept the Groupons for the buffet, and then went back on this agreement at the end if the meal and demanded full price for the buffets. To make a long story long... When we arrived, the restaurant was nearly empty, and there was a handwritten sign on the door saying, in essence, "Coupon not available for the buffet." Hmm, is a Groupon, which you pay for, a "coupon"? We thought we'd better check before ordering. We asked the waiter if they accepted Groupons. He replied "Yes". We then asked "For the buffet, too?" and pointed to and mentioned the sign on the front door. He said "Yes, yes - buffet, menu, anything." So we ordered the buffet. The food was pretty good, especially for a buffet. The service was attentive and polite. BUT, the bill came, and when we handed the waiter our credit cards and the Groupons, he refused the Groupons, saying "It's not available for the buffet" and points to the sign. When we told him that he had agreed to accept the Groupon (all four of us remembered the conversation the same way), he said "I didn't say that". As we started to object, the boss came over and stated that their policy was that "special offers could not be combined, and both the low price on the buffet and the Groupons were each 'special offers' ". I didn't think that a buffet at a lower price was a 'special offer', but 'his place, his rules'. Our argument was with the lie told by the waiter. After objecting at length, we paid the price of the 4 buffets, told them they'd never see us again, and left no tip. In retrospect, because the final conversation/argument seemed rehearsed, I THINK the waiter may have made an honest mistake at first, and the boss overheard this, and ordered him to refuse the Groupons. However, rather than tell us immediately about this unpleasant turn of events, they let us serve ourselves the buffet and eat it, knowing we expected to be able to use the Groupons. Throughout, the attitude of the boss was that he wanted our money, now, and was not interested in customer service, or building his business. read more

This place has been here for maybe 20 years under the same ownership and they still don't miss a beat with the fantastic food they turn out every night. Insanely tasty --and also spicy if you ask it to be prepared that way. Try the Paal or request Tikka Biyani "spicy" if you want an enjoyable, kick in the pants dinner. If you love Indian food, then look no further. This place is a gem in Monroe. My husband and I moved to Monroe almost two years ago. There isn't a huge selection of restaurants in town, but one that we kept seeing was India Raj. We weren't very familiar with Indian food but decided to give it a shot. We fell in love at first bite and have not stopped ordering since. To this day, we order at least once a week because it is that delicious. I always get the chicken tikka tandoori and garlic naan, and my husband gets the chicken jalfreze and vegetable samosas. AMAZING. Food is always fresh & flavorful, and the staff are so friendly (especially the lady who takes orders over the phone). Also, the restaurant is super clean. Go give India Raj a try! We have dined here occasionally over the last ten years. Never have I had a bad meal here. Tonight we noticed two things. Our go to dishes tasted markedly different from the last time we were here. My wife actually sent hers back and requested the "old" way. Her dish was replayed and tasted great within a matter of moments. The service is excellent. There is no bar here but you can byob. Also it was quite cold when we arrived. The staff hit the heat when we walked in and it warmed up. Spoke with the owner and he said they had made some changes to compete with the influx of restaurants in the area. My thought to him was if it's not broke etc lol. This restaurant is amazing. I'll be honest, when I came up to this town, it seems so small that I wasn't sure the Indian food would be good. Boy was I wrong. The special bread was amazing the chicken curry was great, and They'll make everything spicy if you want it. Five out of five! I'll definitely come back to the boonies just for this food. Also I'm not sure some of these negative reviewers are talking about the correct restaurant. One of them said there wasn't traditional indian music. I have been coming here since I was a child. Over the years India Raj has shifted its flavors as time moves on and I can honestly say now for the best. The food itself is at a reasonable price for the amount of food that you get along with the quality. Looking around you will never mistake this for downtown Mumbai...and the decor is not opulent..BUT this is an excellent place for a satisfying meal. I'be made a habit off coming here on Wednesdays for their all you can eat buffet...the buffer is simple, with handwritten signs identifying the items, and chasing dishes crammed into the table, but the staff is fanatical about refilling the items as they are taken...and about filling your water glass... We ate here tonight with our four young kids ... We had the tastiest meal! We know our Indian food and eat out about twice per week. This place has FABULOUS food. The tandoori chicken was in the top three I've had anywhere ... The naan is so fluffy and flavorful, my kids pounce on it! Tonight we had lamb (in some sort of light cream sauce with amazing spices) and chicken tiki masala and aloo gobi. All of the dishes were exceptional.
