Recently very disappointed. They changed their presentation and things went downhill. I've always thought it was one of the best Indian restaurants around. Recently I went and the chicken tikka was served in some sort of dry ice pot on skewers. Huge mistake. It was barely warm; previously it came out sizzling hot on a cast iron plate. Why ruin a good thing?? Their attempt to become "fine dining" is driving me ( and others) away. In addition ( probably the root cause) the prices went up and are now not commensurate with the area. Is it the best Indian food I've had? No. Was it very good? Absolutely, yes. The thing about this place is that having a meal here is an all out event! The service is fantastic. The wait staff is friendly and will joke with you. While we were there, someone was available to do henna tattoos for free. The setting was clean and well decorated. We went for the Sunday brunch and the food was well below average. The bhindi was indistinguishable and we only know it was meant to be bhindi because it had been labeled. Very lackluster food, bland, no taste. The appetizers were well below average and the grilled chicken was dry and tasteless. My friend and I have been here before so we decided to get dinner since we were in the area. Friendly staff and clean, nice looking ambiance, but the food was decidedly average. I got channa masala and tadka dal, both mild. Not much going on in the way of flavor in either of these. Both dishes were edible, texture was fine and the ingredients were of good quality, but it was all bland. We been going here for about 7-8 years.. Food is always very good. In the past 6 months- to a year they have changing things up.. but not all in a good way. Too much over the top presentation and theatrics is, in our opinion, taking over the quality and sometimes quantity of the food. Service is inconsistent (served some guests at our table appetizers while others waited another 5-10 min) for theirs, then the same with the entrees. They never ask if you'd like another beverage and have to track them down to get one. The dosa (our favorite), had only about 1/4 of the crepe filled which made sharing difficult .. Doing the "setting chicken tikka on fire" things and fancy animal or nest shaped vessels for drinks is cute, but not necessary and has shown or resulted in substantial increase in prices. We like this place, but bring it back to simple, good quality food and more focus on service instead of quirky theatrics. read more

Lovely space in Fairfield. What friendly and attentive servers. We had a fine dosa to start. Excellent entrees: chicken korma, saag paneer, hyderabadi chicken biryani and chicken tandoori. Good food and good times with good friends. I love Indian food, especially vegetarian Indian food. If you like Indian food, you have got to try Taj in Fairfield I love the different spices, textures and flavors of Indian food. We had mango lassi (mango yogurt drink), dosa (lentil crepe with potato filling served with chutneys), potato samosa, gulab jamun and Indian chai. The food was so delicious and bursting with flavors. Fantastic culinary dining in experience at Taj in Fairfield! Previous to this visit, I had only gotten takeout which has never disappointed. Craving Indian cuisine, we decided to experience eating in. We were greeted and seated and provided menus, water glasses were filled, and a complimentary appetizer with 3 dipping sauces appeared. Yum! The bartender recommended special Mojito made with fresh mint was so refreshing. Appetizers: meat sampler which included wings, chicken skewer pieces and lamb kofta. The chicken was so moist and flavorful! The Lasooni Gobi appetizer was out of this world; a little sweet, a little crunch and just perfect. I like cauliflower and this just took it to another level I did not even know was possible. I could have eaten just this. I am already salivating and looking forward to coming again just for this! For entrees we chose the lamb Saag and the Taj Alfaham half chicken. Both were Outstanding! Nothing spicy or even too spicy and we enjoyed all of the flavor profiles. The rice was perfectly cooked. Naan bread was phenomenal. Service was superb and it was such an enjoyable experience. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming. Portions are generous and prices reasonable. We departed with plenty of leftovers. The women's bathroom needed some cleaning attention, but otherwise all in the restaurant appeared clean and well kept. Wow. There is no other way to start a review of this restaurant other than wow. I am relatively new to Indian food and have only recently discovered how amazing it is. I decided to get some takeout from this restaurant because it was so highly reviewed across multiple platforms, and u must say I was not even remotely disappointed! First of all, the dishes are expensive but they are family style and the ones we ordered came with rice. The rice was a plain basmati rice, but it was well cooked and a great compliment to the food. I also ordered a side of naan, which came with 4 or 5 naan. I can't remember exactly how many because it was scarfed up pretty fast. In fact we ordered a bunch of different foods but a lot of it got eaten up before I could take pictures because it just smelled so good. The food was packaged wonderfully for takeout. There was a lot of care into making sure nothing spilled, and they used dishwasher safe plastic containers and some aluminum ones for the rice. I can't wait to try this restaurant in person, but for now, this is definitely going to be a take out favorite! read more

Always on the lookout for good Indian food, you will find GREAT Indian food here. They have a cozy eating area with extremely attentive and friendly waitstaff. The take-out counter was bustling the entire time we were there for dinner. Last time we had the palak paneer, chicken vandaloo and chicken tikka masala. So yummy! While the vandaloo was marked at "2 spicy chiles," it only had a slight kick - probably to match folks in Fairfield palette. So don't be afraid to go for the spicier ones. This restaurant came highly recommended and we tried it for dinner. The food was great and so was the service! From the inside, they don't have a big seating area but they are maintaining social distancing. We ordered their meat sampler as appetizer. It comes with assorted chicken kebabs, keema samosa and chicken wings. Everything was flavorful and tasted fresh. For the entree, we went with their paneer butter masala and chicken tikka and those were great too! It was perfect spice level. The paneer butter masala also comes with white rice on the side. It'd be nice to have been warned there'd be confetti and whipped cream on top of the drink, but that's a small detail to be critical of. Food is good- your standard Indian cuisine.
