Our group of 8 RV traveling friends rented a 24' pontoon boat from Trail Ridge Marina for 4 hours…read moreat $475 plus tax. Elaine took our reservation and Renée had our boat all ready to go when we arrived this morning. The two friends who were going to be driving were given detailed instructions on what routes on the lake were safe for boating (there are some shallow areas and areas that have underwater obstructions-- most of which are well marked, but a few that needed to be pointed out.) The pontoon boat "Isabelle" was beautifully equipped, ran very smoothly and had lots of comfortable seating. The boat was equipped with modern electronic equipment so we could track its route on our cell phones! We returned mid-trip to pick up one of our late arriving guests and the staff was ready to help us dock so he could easily board the boat. There are clean bathrooms at the marina, reasonably priced drinks, snacks and apparel. We had a fabulous experience and would highly recommend Trail Ridge Marina for boat rentals and their excellent customer service!

Calling from the middle of the lake wondering why no electrical accessories worked, (CB radio, CD deck, horn, anything) they informed us "the radio doesn't work, but there is a whistle to meet safety requirements" Luckily we had a portable sound system for tunes on our day long boating adventure. Showers. Yes, they have those, too. You just go to the campsite down the road and use theirs, FYI. The staff were very nice, the other marina dwellers in RVs and trailer homes were really cool people and we had nightly bonfires. Just know these things before you go.

Boat wasn't ready when we arrived. The people were nice, but next time I'll go with another marina that takes health more seriously. Pontoon itself was a clunker but the engine worked, so that was good. Odd that they don't just charge a flat fee for gas, requiring you to have to go back into the store to pay.

Tyler was very gracious and gave Greg a lift to the loo (a bit of a distance for the elderly "LOL" but not the young at heart). Tyler also offered his assistance when we were ready to leave the marine, which he did, he gave Greg a ride in the cart to the car. He settled my husband in and rolled down the windows for him as I settled up the tab after a delicious meal.

Surprisingly the water is pretty clean if you paddle out a little away from the shore. The lake is large and there are 3 marinas you can use. Of note, there is not much shade so keep an eye out for a good spot. There are multiple access points to the lake from the roads. You will have to carry your stuff down and back up on the way out!

Things to know. 1. if in summer, even on weekdays you will need to call and make your reservations in advance. Most likely they will not have boats available if you just do a drop in. You are able to call and reserve 14 days in advance. 2. the amounts of people allowed in the boats are different than what is on their website. it is actually less now for some reason???? not sure what that is. but hopefully they update it to be accurate at some point soon. 3. The prices listed on the website is for the boat only. It does not include gas. 4. They had half day or all day rentals available. 5. If you want to pull a tube behind, the tubes they sell in the marina span between $150-$260!!! YIKES. You will also need a tow rope and y line and that will add another $70. I called all over to see if there was a place that would rent these items and the answer is no :( We used one of our river tubes from home and well it was not the BEST but the girls made the most of it. 6. when you get there you go down around back of the marina and go to the building with the blue roof to check in at. 7. you can bring food and beverages on the boats, but if you make too much of a mess you will get charged a cleaning fee. 8. they will hold your drivers license and credit card while you are out on the boat. 9. They do give a you a boat talk to tell you how to make the boat run. The fellas down at the dock where very friendly. They were helpful and really made everyone feel comfortable. They helped us figure out how to tie our tube on even though it was not quite what they are used to. They also hooked up our y hook up and towline. 10. After you done, you will want to go up to the marina to pay. They take your stuff up there. That was not totally clear and i was hanging around down at the dock. You can paddleboard and kayak down below the marina if you want. You are not supposed to swim in the lake except at the swim beach.

Short walk from the parking lot, so it is accessible to most. While on a short hike on the trail, I ran into a beautiful MOOSE and caught a few photos while he ate his dinner. Amazing experience!

Brainard NRA is stunning. I was surprised how fast the tickets go for this place during the summer…read moremonths - I went in mid September and the tickets for the morning times were fully gone within minutes after they dropped online a few weeks before I went Given RMNP tix go like that I was ready at 0900 for when they dropped, and actually within 1 min the 8-11a time slot sold out so I couldn't get it! But I did get the 5-8a slot which was fine. The area itself is very easy to find and navigate, and it is well maintained by the staff. When you arrive they do scan your day pass ticket and give you a pass to hang on your rear view mirror. The lot was plenty empty at Long lake trailhead (the start to get to Lake Isabelle) when I arrived around 0730. The day was fairly cool but not cold, and partly cloudy. It was absolutely gorgeous, the hike there was even more beautiful than the lake itself! I saw a moose along part of the trail too. The lake itself was surprisingly low, I'm not sure why the water level was that low but it looked much lower compared to the pictures/tiktoks I've seen online. That said, it is still very picturesque. There were lots of places to roam around the lake, and even tho it became SUPER windy when I got to the lake, I had a good time running around (but note - my nose was running like CRAZY, if you have allergies, come with tissues!). I did end up walking from long lake trailhead to the lake Mitchell trailhead and making the hike out there too; Isabelle is prettier imo but it was still a fun walk and the trailhead at Mitchell has plenty of parking too. There is a little trail, about 15 mins walk between long lake trailhead and Mitchell trailhead, although you do briefly have to walk along part of the road. Brainard lake itself is also lovely, I saw a moose hanging out right by this lake too!

Kyle is an exceptional guide and boat captain. His knowledge of the lakes, trout behavior, and where the fish were actively feeding was incredible. Thanks to his expertise, we caught our limit both days and landed four beautiful species of trout: Brown, Lake, Rainbow, and Brook trout. It was more success than we ever imagined! What really sets Kyle apart is how hard he works to make sure everyone has a memorable day on the water. He was patient, encouraging, professional, and always focused on helping us catch fish while making the experience enjoyable. Whether you're an experienced angler or it's your first time fishing, you'll learn from him and have a fantastic time.
