I was craving to get into the water after seeing all the kayaks out there. Mountain Paddlers made it really easy for me to rent a kayak. You can rent online ahead of time or they take walk-ups if there are kayaks available. You can reserve either a solo or tandem kayak on an hourly basis at the Kayak Shak near the beach. After making payment, you then take your receipt to the loading area to get into your kayak. There are staff members on hand to help you into your kayak. The kayaks are comfortable and sturdy and suitable for all ages. The staff went over the boundaries of the lake with me and the fun places to go exploring. They also gave me a dry bag to put my phone and keys in. I had a blast kayaking all around Grand Lake. It is such a beautiful lake and there is lots to explore. I really enjoyed the mountain views and the fresh air. I was able to make my way over to Shadow Mountain Lake. I highly recommend checking out Mountain Paddlers if you are spending a day here. What he didn't explain is that you pay for EVERY fish caught--even the ones you "donate" back to them. We brought six kids. One son caught 17 fish by himself in 45 minutes. Staff watched us fill buckets without saying a word as our bill climbed to nearly $400. Using the word "donate" is INTENTIONALLY MISLEADING. You're not donating anything--you're buying fish and giving them back to the business. In my opinion, this pricing model is PREDATORY and relies on tourists and families not understanding the rules until they're standing at the register. If your kids have the (virtually guaranteed) experience of catching (likely multiple) fish, prepare to pay dearly for it.

If you think the "donate" option for the fish caught will be free, you're mistaken. The Really Ugly Bottom line- the pricing is intentionally predatory and confusing. As someone who lives locally this was a bad look at a classic tourist trap. We took out of town family hoping to show them a good time. $400 later we left apologizing for the way our guests had been taken advantage of.

Excellent experience…read more.. We were accommodated like we were family. The day we scheduled turned out to be windy, thirty MPH gusts. We called that morning and mentioned the forecast, they switched us to the next morning when conditions were close to perfect. No hassle, no hesitation. Our guide, Rob, was as friendly and professional as we could have hoped for. We had a great time conversing with him about all sorts of fishing and boating experiences we both enjoyed in the past. He was extremely helpful. He quickly figured out that my wife and I were experienced boaters... we volunteered to drive as he netted fish and put them in the live fish well. He had some great stories of outdoor adventures and we shared our experiences about surfing behind our boat in SC. We caught our limit and let a few smaller Trout free in exchange for some nice sized fish. Rob cleaned them for us since we are in a small RV with no real place to handle that chore. We left him with a nice tip and were thrilled to do so in return for the great time and service he provided. It's not a cheap trip... but the marina is closed and there would otherwise not be a chance to fish on this lake. Rob had snacks and drinks for us. He stopped off for a restroom break at my wife's request. We enjoyed the trip so much that after just two hours we called it done. Rob offered to fish another two hours, but we seriously felt that we had gotten our money's worth and headed back to our RV with four meals worth of Trout. This outfit is definitely first rate. If you want a great fishing experience this outfit will definitely deliver.

Pole Creek has three courses all surrounded by Rocky Mountain beauty so even if you're as terrible as I am, the natural surroundings will provide you with a sense of serenity so you don't drive your cart into a water hazard. Outside of the immaculate fairways and greens the staff is incredibly nice. On several occasions a marshal came by to either offer advice or help find a lost ball. (which there was a record number of) He even took a couple of pictures for us which was by far the best shot I was a part of in the round. They rent some really nice Titleist clubs for only about $30 and beers and food are pretty affordable compared to other courses I've ever played. Overall Pole Creek is worth the price of admission just based on the scenery alone. If you're actually a good golfer, I bet you'll love it too.

We played other course in the area and has no issue driving on the fairways (except for the Par 3 hokes). However Polecreek is "Cart Path Only". The group also consisted of 3 disabled US Veterans. On the 28th the check-in desk was very cordial. They allowed the 3 disabled Veterans to acquire "Handicap" flags and carts that allowed them to drive at 90 degrees from the cart path onto the fairways to line up and hit their shots then return to the cart path. However, on the 30th the staff and rules changed. Not for the good The staff was disrespectful and had no time to answer questions. When the 3 disabled Veterans tried to get "Handicap" accommodations they were denied. They were told that only golfers with the blue card that hung from their visors. All these Veterans suffered disabilities from their service in Viet Nam. They were asked what their disabilities were. They explained their license plates bore the "Disabled Veteran" and therefore they didn't need the handicap blue card. How does the service by these Veterans and their disabilities get such little respect? Pole Creek needs to do better!
