But, there are some things to note, namely on cost: 1. There are great "summer" rates and packages available - they usually run from mid-May until just before Labor Day. 2. Valet parking is $42 a day - there really isn't another option. 3. The resort fee is $68.73 per day (that includes tax) 4. Food and drink are VERY pricey - especially breakfast and lunch (my small egg white omelet with greens on the side was $29). If you have the ability, use the To-Go coffee and bakery spot next to Core Kitchen & Bar. They are open until 11am everyday. 5. They do cater, fairly well, to gluten-free needs. Other things to note: We were in room 2805 - a beautiful, clean, and comfortable room. It was so nice to have a fire pit on our terrace to enjoy (as well as the wildlife that stopped by to say hi). Note that there is a sidewalk that runs the length of the hotel, right in front of the fire pits so during the day, it does not feel as private. The spa cabana was worth the price tag if you plan on wanting to be outside all day and want to keep cool in between soaking in the sun or swimming in the pool. It's also adults-only. The spa, itself is beautiful with every amenity you'd need for a relaxing day.

Management is profoundly disconnected from daily realities, forcing staff to absorb unsustainable workloads during peak hours while offering nothing but empty, minor gestures instead of real workplace solutions. I booked a bungalow in the retreat area to have access to the 2 other temperature regulated pools. Maydeline at the Spa was very helpful and very in touch with guest needs. One step ahead everytime. Colin really saved the day with making sure we had everything we needed. Brennan was also really helpful at breakfast and bringing us water all the way to the retreat pool. There was a minor hiccup with requesting ice while we were there but they did take care of it and apologized the next day for it not being done promptly, the acknowledgement was great and it really was such a minor thing. They have lots of activities everyday that are included and they also have experiences you can pay for.

The property is beautiful to walk around, with all the landscaping, flowers and trees; some of them are marked with what kind of plant they are. There are century plants and aloe and various cacti. The fitness center is located at the spa. It has windows which open up onto the pool, which is a more private pool than the main pool. The staff is outstanding. Savannah, who ran the front desk on my most recent visit, is absolutely amazing and really helped with any questions or small issues with my stay. The restaurant is wonderful for the hotel breakfast. I recommend having cocktails there too. You can see a beautiful sunset from the bar. I love the open design of this hotel resort because it makes you feel like you're in the countryside and you can admire the beautiful views of Camelback as you walk around the grounds and hear birds chirping. It's so relaxing. Parking is easy and you can usually find a spot right outside your casita room as the parking circles the hotel. Toiletries in the room smell so good! Lavender with sea salt. It's really like staying in a spa! One of my favorite experiences at this hotel was taking a late afternoon outdoor class at the spa/gym on the large lawn where we did stretching/light resistance training with the the sunset behind Camelback Mountain as the backdrop. It was glorious. I definitely recommend trying one of the classes or "experiences" if you stay here. Some of them you have to pay extra for, but a few of them are included with your room rate. At first glance the hotel interiors and architecture seem extremely simple and minimal, but then you realize it's actually all a piece of mid-century modern inspired art. They were so kind and did all the tricks to see why nothing was coming out. We did the toilet fill and flush, we stuck a hose down there too. It wasn't until they crawled under the Indie camper and found a SECOND black tank pull. Thank goodness because if I returned it full Indie camper rental would charge me over $380 to dump the black tank.

We stayed on the pool side on the two story side and not the main hotel and was a luxury room. So when it is hot, you will be sweating before going to the room. The plus side is the pool is right there and easy to access through the stairs. We ended up using the pool in the morning on a Monday which I suggest you do. The room was nice, but unfortunately our view was a bunch of construction vehicles and them breaking ground. But I am happy they are expanding. It comes with a tub and a separate shower. The downside was there was no place to hang the towels. Room was clean and not dirty and enjoyable. The plus side too that even though there is a pool party the noise does not travel to the room so it is really quiet. We only ate the the Catus Cafe which is a combination of Chinese and American food. They do have a movie theatre, bowling alley and arcade for the family. Unfortunately, going there indoor can be confusing the challenging, but the bridge is on the 2nd floor and pass the bingo hall. They do have an indoor parking garage, but it is not near the hotel. Casino wise, the plus is they have the newest games there and I ended up playing most of them. The downside is I did not have much luck with the games except for 2. There was one game that paid me $978 dollars, but I ended up in the red. I played a combination of volatile and non volatile ones and have a good selection of those. I usually gamble three days there, but I only lasted 1-2 hours per session which means I was losing money quickly and wished I was able to play longer. However, we did ended up getting 5K points. My first night and 2nd day was no good. My wife had more luck than me at the casino. Anyways I ended up losing around 3k here which is no good for me. The casino tends to get busy between 12 and after. I ended up getting a lot of drink coupons as well. I ended up getting a host too, Melissa and came up to me while I was playing and she ended up getting us our lunch comped which was really nice of her. Usually, I expected this at the Boyd properties, but this is always a first. Overall, had a great time, but I wished I did not get slaughtered too badly.

Because there appeared to be a single vent pumping out just enough cold air to rival a household fan. I don't need my hotel room to double as a meat locker, but in Arizona, I would at least like the option. Also, being woken up by a leaf blower each morning as the wind whipped around the crevices of the door... yeah, not enjoyable. The pool was nice enough, but surprisingly small, crowded, and the water was hot. For a Scottsdale hotel with the reputation Valley Ho carries, the entire pool experience just felt a little dated and cheaper than I expected. We also paid $400+ for our cabana, only to discover the safe didn't work. At that price point, I expect every amenity included with the cabana to function properly. Now for the absolute bright spot of our pool experience: Alex! Alex was THE MAN. This dude strutted around that pool serving patrons with a smile and a full heart. My wife, our friends, and I were genuinely excited every time we saw him coming our way because his customer service was impeccable. He was personable, attentive, funny, and made us feel like he genuinely wanted us to have a great time. Give that man his flowers. Overall, I understand why Hotel Valley Ho is such a Scottsdale institution. There's history, character, and plenty to like about the property. It is more on the small side so I wouldn't recommend for more than a couple and a dog. It was us 2 plus 2 bigger sized dogs and it was a little packed with the ones kennel. So knowing that I would have picked a different cabin personally. Everything worked, we were warm, the little yard was adorable for the dogs. Although one refused to go poop in the snow which was fun. lol. I loved our time there. One con is that the power went out from using too many things in the kitchen. The shower was freezing and the shower head was awful at taking showers. It's hard to wash your hair and shower fast like that. The bed was also super firm which I know some would love. I loved our time there otherwise.

They also informed the Tucson Ski Cabin was ready for check in earlier than expected which may not always be the case so it was nice they informed us. The directions they gave us to get to the Tucson Ski Cabin were clear and very helpful. That cabin is nice for a family or group, and the deck offers a wonderful view. The standard cabin was nice for just two of us, and located so that Summerhaven was easy to walk around. Both times were enjoyable and we look forward to booking these cabins again!!
