Indian Sweets & Spices is located in Shoreline's North City neighborhood and shares a parking lot with other smaller businesses and also Les Schwab tires across the way. The Homie's Indian history professor introduced his UW class to a particular sweet confection called, soan papdi. This was his second visit and my first on 3/14/24. It was nice to be able to wander the aisles and peer at the wide variety of items available at this retail shop...canned and packaged items, spice bins, refrigerated and frozen items, fresh produce, etc. The Homie ended up selecting another box of soan papdi, a malt beverage, and some chai tea for purchase. The shop was clean, well stocked, and surveillance cameras strategically positioned. One person was in/out of the shop doing restocks, while the other person sat stoically at the front register by the entrance. There were other shoppers while we were there, so it's good to see that the others find it useful for their needs. I wished there were helpful signage for the various items featured in the front pastry case though. I only recognized gulab jamun. I didn't feel particularly assertive to inquire further. Overall Yelp score was 3.5, rounded to a 4. read more

They sell out of date products -- and very much past their sell-by dates. When I contacted them to ask for a refund, they took my credit card information, promised to refund me but have not done so. They have also now blocked my phone number so will not take my calls. This is a totally shady -- and illegal -- way to run a business. WA state laws are very clear that if a product is being sold after it's sell by date, it needs to be clearly marked- they're not doing that. But the lying to me about the refund and now blocking my calls is super disgusting. read more

This place is THE SPOT for Indian sweet treats. Man they have a huge selection and they are super tasty. The owner and his wife make a bunch of yummy stuff. The samosas omg!! I will drive across town for these some days. They just knock. Perfect crisp, not too much dough, yummy potatoes and peas, with just the right amount of kick. So cheap too. Like 4 for $5. You don't even need sauce. They make dishes and freeze then plus some breads. Anything Indian you will find here. I just wish he would start selling the sweets mixed up again. I'm one person and don't need a pound of one sweet treat, I like the mixes but there's always someone ruining it for the whole bunch. Regardless, I love this place! read more

I have been a customer for years here. They have a wide variety of goods-spices, packaged foods, sauces, and bulk products. The shop always smells wonderful and is fun to explore. I am writing this review in the time of COVID-19, and their shop not only has excellent ratings of cleanliness from the county, but they have gone above and beyond to keep everyone safe. Their veggie samosas are so good. I got 4/$5, and they are so flavorful with the perfect amount of kick. This is a family business worth patronizing-they have always been a pleasure to visit and they have given my family wonderful recommendations. We can't wait to come here again. read more

Overall: If I'm in the area I'll probably stop by and pickup a samosa and a sweet treat. Samosas: My favorite part was the hot veggie samosas in a case near the register that other reviews raved about. They were hot, flaky, spicy, and hit the spot. I think they were something like$1.25-1.50, so not too expensive. Now were they the best ever? Not quite, just like gas station pizza isn't some wood-fire Neapolitan pizza or something, BUT if you temper your expectations, they're solid. If gas stations across the US served these samosas I might never fill up without getting one. IF they added a little takeout container with some sauce I'd be over the moon but the samosas were still good as is. Sweets: Right next to the samosas is a display case with sweets. We got a few pieces of khoya barfi and a few gulab jamun. These were good and if I'm in the area I'd definitely like to try more. Issues: The sign said there was a 1/2lb minimum order and that the items were charged by weight but then when we were rung up the items were 50 cents each...maybe the signage is outdated? Also, most of the items weren't labeled, so I couldn't pull out my phone and search for details on the items. When I asked the shopkeeper about the sweets he was less than accommodating and didn't offer any details, not sure if there was a language barrier. Everything still tasted good though so no worries, just gotta try stuff out. read more

Pros: - Good selection of products. - Store was clean. Cons: - There were only two staff in the whole store. One was just sitting next to the door with his cap on. And this guy was a creep. - The other person, the cashier was visibly frustrated when I asked for price on TWO items. I had to ask for it since majority of items were missing a price tag. - EXPENSIVE. Save yourself $$, and go to any Indian grocery store in the Bothell area. Aashirwad multi-grain aata (10 kgs) for $27.99, it is retailing online for $22.99. Also, the Bothell area India grocery stores offer 10% discount if you shop $100+ or 5% if $50+. - Overall, it was far from a pleasant experience and I definitely feel cheated. read more

This is the place for Indian groceries during lockdown! I ordered from here for the first time because we were craving poha but not wanting to risk shopping in person at our previous place. They have everything we could possibly need: poha, fresh curry leaves, lots of varieties of frozen paratha, a huge number of spices, etc. We also tried the fresh samosas and they were great. They have other premade foods like sambar, dal, etc. which seem like a good deal - we got a big tub of chana masala for $12. Ordering online was straightforward, and the store even responded quickly when I asked where to find something. I got an email letting me know when it was ready. Pickup was smooth - we waited in the parking lot and phoned to let them know, then a friendly man came out with our groceries and loaded them into the car. I really appreciate the effort this business has put into safety during COVID-19. Overall, I'll definitely be ordering again soon and will make this my new spot for Indian groceries. read more

I simply don't understand any good reviews here. This place is the ultimate destination of expired products combined with a great deal of maintaining a store so so filthy. One time here made me never wanting to step foot inside ever again. Much better to drive further to a proper Indian grocery store where cleanliness, quality and basic etiquette matters. read more

My go to place for all things Indian. Only because it's the only Indian store in Shoreline. Their timings are off. A lil frustrating waiting for them to open up at 10 am. I would not recommend the 'fresh' produce. Also the prices and quality of nuts at Trader Joe's is much better than here. Yogurts have spoiled in a few days after purchase. So why do I come here? My credit card was not returned to me at the cash register. The merchant made another fraudulent charge onto my credit card immediately after I made my purchase. Next thing I know, my credit card statement became infested with fraudulent money order transactions and all sorts of sketchy shit. Very sketchy neighborhood and store, do not visit. read more

We had a number of the spices that we've bought from Indian Sweets and Spices laboratory tested and the LEAD content was WAY over the legal limit. Bay leaves, fenugreek, garam masala, cardamom, fennel, caroway, cinnamon, cumin. All of theses spices were 20-30 times over the legal limit of lead. We will no longer be buying spices from India as we prefer to not have lead exposure with the food. . read more

An Indian/Middle /Eastern mart close enough to Shoreline and Edmonds residents to give them both generous selection, fair prices, and genuine customer service (this includes feedback on items you might have questions regarding...judgment and lack of patience NOT included!). Yes, it's cluttered and a bit scattered in terms of standard corporate USA grocery-store layout. Why else would i get such a rush shopping here? They have bizarre pre-packaged chip-snacks that could take on H-Mart in a Snack Battle. They have a small tunnel of "help-yourself" spice tubs. Instant Indian food in foil packs. Fresh palm oil that looks like something from the garbage dumpster in Fight Club, but much tastier. THE TEA SECTION. You can't find your tea? You didn't come HERE. PG Tips, Tetley, an exhausting amount of green teas, etc etc etc. Alas, i would have lingered but for my pressing schedule, but was delighted to find my Ahmad Ceylon Loose Leaf for 6.99 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51opmLwz0xL._SL500_.jpg. This is such a hard loose tea to find in U.S. stores, and it is the loveliest with a splash of milk and bikkies. And yes, they have tea bikkies here. Digestifs, and a mock-Peak-Freans-type. I miss my tea-dippers. I made other purchases, but just to let you know, the canned sardines are the fancy type. 2-for-$3 right now for some. AND THEY HAVE CANNED MUTTON HERE. I was tempted...but nearly broke at this point. On my way out, i bought a fresh, hand-mad samosa (not hot...it was made earlier) and a fresh, hand-made chestnut dessert that reminded me of marzipan (but tastier). This review has been languishing in my Unfinished Reviews box for far too long. Forgive my tardiness, Indian Sweets peeps; you're the best. I'm not sure why it took me so long to take my first crack at a lamb roast, but I'm certainly glad I bought the lamb here. I followed a simple recipe using a gremolata rub and it was one of the best things I've made this year, in large part due to the quality of the meat. Fast forward a few weeks, and I've just now cooked the lamb shanks I got here, and they, too, were melt-in-the-mouth phenomenal, so it's time to talk these guys up. This store is tiny and packed to bursting with meats, spices, and other intriguingly unfamiliar things. Many of their meats are kosher and/or halal, and on some weekdays they have freshly cooked items in their deli case. The guys who work there are incredibly kind and helpful and have helped me discover a few rubs and marinades that made for simple meat prepping--and ultimately dishes that tasted like a lot more time went into them than actually did. If you're anywhere near this little spot, tucked into its strip mall sandwich slot between Subway and...is it a Filipino grocery? I think so, but I've since moved away, so I may be wrong...anyway, if on the easterly side of Shoreline, this place is the bomb for kosher / halal meats and treats. read more

This store is wonderful. I only wish I lived closer to it. My partner and I are avid cooks, and sometimes it can be really difficult to find the ingredients that middle eastern dishes call for. Things like: fresh curry leaves, panir, whole dried peas, some whole spices ... all of these can be found here, and some other things you didn't even know exsisted. The whole spices and bulk dry-goods are what really draw us in. There are colors of lentils I've never heard of before, and other dry things ... beans, grains, legumes? I don't even know, to be honest ... I just know I can't wait to cook them. And the spices! The spices are cheaper than any you'll ever find in any store. Think of the little shaker of spices you buy at the super market. If it's a whole spice you can spend up to $9. At Indian Sweets & Spices you can get a bag of whole coriander that's five times the size of those shakers for $2.99. But there's so much more! Candy, snacks, sodas ... all the kind of stuff you could only find in India for the most part. More things I've never heard of. Burlap sacks full of rice for great prices, handmade Indian sweets at the deli counter, alongside home made soups and curries you could easily heat up for a cheap lunch on the go. To top it all off, the guys who run the place are friendly and helpful, but not in your face, which I appreciate. I hate sales people who hover, and they don't. read more

We went here a couple days ago, mainly to get some cashew barfi... thought we left with more. I grew up with Indian sweets, and the products here (sold by weight at $7.99/lb) are pretty much as good as it gets (unless your Indian grandmother/aunt/dad decided to spend hours in the kitchen). I'd have preferred my barfi cut into diamonds instead of squares, but maybe I'm just picky about my shapes. They also have a large selection of dry ingredients, add water&heat products, and frozen/refrigerated foods. So much so, that I was in the rare situation of seeing ingredients that I couldn't identify. There were also freshly prepared veggie samosas for sale on the checkout counter. They guys at the counter were very friendly, and willing to describe the sweets to us. Be advised, they prefer cash for small purchases, as I learned from the sign displayed on the cash register. Can Say "Butter Chicken"? Delicious!! They make their own dishes and have them in the display fridge in the back of the store - they are worth every penny - take them home and heat them up for an amazing meal. Bulk spices and a plethora of other goodness can be found on many shelves and coolers, worth walking around the store. Mickey is a fun guy and very personable if you take a minute to chat him up. Found this little hidden gem of a store after having breakfast at Leena's Café one day. It looks rather dingy and unassuming from the outside. Inside, it is crammed full of tasty delights...kind of like Disneyland for the wannabe Indian chef. I walked up and down the narrow aisles and marveled at the diversity of items stuffed on shelves and back wall racks. They have spices, cookery, bulk items, packaged food, meats, frozen items, and pastries. I came away with several bottles of spices that were very reasonably priced. Even found a bottle of citric acid that I haven't seen in years. They have non-food items that are fun to look through. The owners are very helpful. Such a nice little shop. read more

Gigantic selection of Indian goods somehow magically packed into a small little shop. Spices, snacks, frozen halal meats -- I'm willing to bet they've got all you need for your next ethnic culinary adventure. They even have an appreciable selection of east asian goods -- things like sauces and noodles. My favorite part though were the fresh sweets, namely barfi and some other thing I can't quite remember the name of but absolutely love -- sort of like fudge, except they taste like dense squares of milk, nuts, and mild spices. I found this place after searching high and low for a decent dry curry spice mix. I live on an Island and have trouble finding good spices, but this place covers more than just the basics. I went in and was overwhelmed and overjoyed at the incredible array of choices they manage to fit into a tiny spot in a strip mall. The outside of this place hides how wonderful the inside is. The people who run the shop are kind, very knowledgeable, and don't make fun of the stupid American who wants to make fabulous food. Plus, they sell real curry leaves! And paneer! I'm not sure why I haven't reviewed this place before... Parking: Strip mall, plenty Shelfs packed tightly with everything from bulk lentils to hair dye. You could spend a long time figuring out everything they have. They have packages of curry paste as well as different masalas, they have fresh samosa - 5 for $5 - I always get some to go. My new discovery here is the frozen food. They make their own curries and biryani and it's soooooo good. Butter chicken is the best as well as the biryani. It is an expensive shop to busy Indian stuff. I went there on Sunday (19th Dec 2021), and found everything pricey. Moreover, be careful while making payment, the shopkeeper has a tendency to avoid giving discounts/charge more for an item even on the MRP. I had to ask him twice for the right price which should be done by the shopkeeper himself. Grocery wise you will find almost everything, but price wise it is on the higher side. Not gonna go again as there are other asian market to shop from. read more

I discovered this place when I was having my tires done at Les Schwab. This is a grocery store where you can buy ready-made hot food and frozen food (that you can heat up) as well as the best assortment of staples one could hope to have in one's kitchen pantry. There is also an AMAZING assortment of "sweets" wow! Pastries that are beautiful and mouth watering! Some are kind of a boring shade of beige and cut into uninteresting blocks. HAH! Don't let the bland color fool you! These are quite simply the most delicious beige things you have ever eaten! In my next life I want to be Indian--that's all there is to it. Go to this place and buy yourself some sour pickle or lime pickle, some curry powders, a decent amount of rice, some frozen butter chicken and a large box of sweets--you will find instant happiness!!
