A friend brought me here specifically for their chicken and rice and I'm so glad she did. The chicken and rice was delicious and the portions are huge, definitely generous enough to share because we ordered only 2 plates for the 3 of us. One of my favorite parts was actually the wintermelon soup that comes with the meal. It had such a comforting, home cooked quality to it and was the perfect complement to the chicken and rice. The food here has that feeling of traditional Thai home cooking rather than being overly polished or adjusted for a more generic restaurant palate. Everything tasted fresh, comforting and very well prepared. It's the kind of meal that feels simple but incredibly satisfying, especially when you're craving something that tastes homemade. Came here for the first time due to the close proximity to home and the impressive reviews. Service, food, and price all 5 stars! I definitely recommend joining the waitlist early on the weekend, we showed up on a Saturday evening and placed ourselves on the list which estimated 15 to 25 minutes, and probably 50 minutes later we got seated (it's a smaller establishment with only 10 tables). No docked stars though because the service was super friendly and at the very end one of the waitresses gave me a free bottle of Thai tea; an unexpected gesture and very sweet. We ordered the spring rolls, pad Thai, chicken tendons, Thai tea, and a bottled beer. The food was delicious and didn't take too long to come out considering they were fully packed. There are so many Thai restaurants in the Seattle area, but Aroy Mak is officially my new favorite! The portions are huge, the flavors are incredible, and they are so generous with the amount of chicken they give you. I got the combo with half Khao Man Gai + half Khao Man Gai Tod ($17), Pad Thai Gai Yang ($17), and Panang Curry ($18), and everything was flavorful and delicious. The Hainanese chicken and rice was definitely the standout for me but you truly can't go wrong with anything here! I was excited to try their mango sticky rice but unfortunately the season is over so I'll have to wait until next summer but their other desserts looked good too. There was a wait since it was the weekend, but we didn't have to wait more then 20 mins after joining the waitlist at the restaurant. What I really liked is that as our turn got close, they started taking our order early so it would be ready by the time we sat down. My husband ordered non-veg, while my 5 year old and I decided to share and just got the "Vegan Thai Fried Rice with Tofu" - requested mild and less oil. The order came within 5 mins since they had taken it in advance. Omg, what a flavor profile! I loved, loved it! I have been to many Thai places, but the vegan food here tasted truly amazing - the best fried rice ever! My daughter slurped it all down really quick too. We both finished every bite. What I especially appreciated was how many tofu pieces they included. Usually I noticed restaurants are stingy with the tofu in fried rice, not sure why, but this place was generous with it. Tofu is a touchy subject for me because my daughter loves it and eats it all, so I hardly get any protein for myself, usually ending up with only 3-4 pieces. But here the tofu portion was pretty good. We loved it so much that we came back again on the last day of our trip, as weekday that time, with no wait time. One more important thing to note: kids get special plates and cutlery here. My daughter got a pink princess plate and OMG, she was so excited waiting for her food just to eat off it. Saw this place on Instagram as one of the top ranked restaurants on Yelp. I got back from a whale watching tour and was in the area so I decided to give it a try! I arrived around 2pm and there were still people line up outside waiting for tables, so it spoke to how popular this place is! I ordered the combo with hainen chicken and fried chicken. It came out really fast, the hainen chicken was soft and tender, and the fried chicken was crispy! The soup it came with was very nice as well. I was so full from the meal! Reserved for dinner to celebrate my son's birthday and this place was fantastic in every way. It was completely packed but the welcome by Palm was so warm and service by Aaron was really great. Just remember to check in when you've arrived. And definitely make your reservation (through Yelp). We ordered the tea service, and the Hainan Chicken which was perfectly steamed with ginger, as well as the Pad See Ew -- probably the best rice Noodles in town. But we came especially for the mango sticky rice which came with fresh mango and the tricolored rice, and we also ordered the coconut pudding which was not too sweet, perfectly light, smooth, and creamy delicious. We inhaled the food and honestly I've come back for takeout since then because it's just really excellent eating. Highly recommend. Absolutely delicious! Do yourself a favor and make sure to arrive hungry as there are many items on the menu that you will want to try. The restaurant itself is small and does not take reservations, so plan for a bit of a wait if you come during busy hours. We went at 6:00pm on a Saturday and waited about 15 minutes, but there was more of a wait when we left. While small, the restaurant was cute and well decorated. The staff was super friendly, helpful and very on top of things. Parking is limited. The food was delicious. Everything was so fresh and beautifully presented. I have been searching for a hainanese chicken / khao man gai that would blow my socks off and after some enthusiastic recommendations for Aroy from my friends and the general internet, I finally made my way out to Shoreline to try this place out. Even though I really wanted to love this place, this place was definitely overhyped; I'd say it's about the same level as A Ma's, which I also didn't enjoy. It might be because the place has gone super viral as we ended up waiting 80 minutes on a Saturday night, so quality control might be more difficult at this point. Tip: the iPad will say the wait is 30 minutes, do not trust the iPad. Hainan Chicken was tasteless and overcooked. The texture was way too chewy and was my least favorite preparation of the night. Gai Tod (fried) was better with a crispy outside, but still a tad overcooked. Gai Yang (grilled) was definitely the best version of chicken and is solid enough if you live nearby, but definitely not driving out of your way or waiting for. Rice wasn't super fluffy and I just prefer garlic rice over ginger. The chicken stock is probably the best part of the rice plates. Upside is the joint is definitely family owned and they do their best to provide good service in spite of the chaos. They'll take your order before you get seated, so the food comes out fast and are generally very sweet when checking in. read more

Wow! What a gem of a restaurant. The parking lot is very very small with very little spots/hard to navigate as an FYI and it seems like this place can get crowded easily. Luckily we came early on a weekday for lunch and we were seated right away. The menu is limited unlike most thai places and their specialty seems to be a rice dish with different types of chicken. They also have seasonal specials of which we got several. We started with the thai green tea (which I've never had before) and it was so fragrant and delicious; I definitely like it better than regular thai tea but have not seen it offered before. We tried a rice platter (ordered ginger rice and opted for two types of chicken, northern style and a crispy fried chicken with two sauces; one thai spicy sauce and signature sauce) and had a seasonal special (pad khee mao with tofu). Everything was so flavorful and delicious and presentation was beautiful. We ended the meal with the mango sticky rice (we were told that this was the last day of the season - not sure what happens afterwards), but it was so delicious. Yet another amazing experience at Aroy Mak! I've brought at least 10 friends here on various occasions and each have told me the that this is now their go to spot! It makes me so happy when others enjoy food for Aroy Mak. It's truly a family feel with cozy vibes and mouthwatering food. Service is prompt, friendly and efficient. Since their restaurant is on the smaller size they try to do a quick turnaround so the folks waiting can get a spot. We were running an errand, and decided to grab dinner, and we wanted to try something on my Yelp list. It was pretty busy, and we put our name on the list. It was about a 25 minute wait, but so worth it. My bf got the combo with Simmered Chicken and Gai Tod. I created my own combo with Garlic Fried Rice, Gai Tod, and Gai Yang. Everything was so delicious, especially with the Thai Spicy Sauce. And they had chili oil, which I added to the sauce. The Gai Tod had a great crispiness to it, and the Gai Yang was very flavorful. My bf loved it so much, we came back a few weeks later. He ordered the same thing, but with Garlic Fried Rice. I also ordered the same chicken choices as before, but this time with the Stir-Fried Egg Noodles. We again really enjoyed it, and my bf even said this may now be his favorite restaurant. Okay, honestly I am not a big fan of khao man gai, but I am a new fan of gai yang! Also their thai sauce was delicioussssss. Next time I am just going to order gai yang all the way lol. Wait time on Sunday night was almost an hour-- They closes at 8:30 pm and we arrived around 7:30ish and got seated around 8:30 pm. Waitress/waiter were nice about it though. We had green curry and the fried/hainan chicken combo plate. The curry was good, on par with other places. The chicken was, frankly, a let down. Hainan chicken which gets so much praise in the reviews was simply bland. The fried chicken was also bland, but had the (overly) crunchy batter to add interest. Fried chicken was dry; hainan started juicy but dried out pretty quickly - unclear if that's because the pieces got smaller or just a consequence of time. My last visit was for the Aroy Mak Thai chicken, and now I'm back for their Khao Man Gai and Gai Tod combo! This was on a Saturday noon when they open, and my bestie and I parked in their really small parking lot and went in 15 minutes after they opened. Then people filled the tables very, very quickly... this place still has hype even after my last Yelp review for this place and even before that! In other words, get here early. As mentioned I got their combo khao man gai and gai tod, and this has a similar setup as the Aroy Mak Thai chicken dish: a side of soup, rice and cucumbers come with it. The khao man gai was the winner for me here; it was tender, nicely flavored and not too strong of a taste to overwhelm the rest of the dish. The crispy chicken was just as delicious, and it was really crispy and fresh too. Soup is homely and acted as a nice palette cleanser as it was just right in saltiness. Garlic rice made my dish even better too! I see this as one of those places where you could come back multiple times and get the same dosh each time. Aroy Mak offers some of the best food I've ever had! I got one of the combo sets which allowed me to try both the Hainan chicken and the crispy fried chicken; both were extremely fresh and delicious! If I had to choose one, Id say I liked the crispy fried chicken a little more; however, what I think I really loved about this meal was the perfect balance of flavors that the two types of chicken, rice, sauces, and soup combined to offer. The mango sticky rice was also delicious, the mango was fresh and portions were large. They have a lot of other foods on the menu that I'd love to try. The biggest issue is that it's quite far away from downtown Seattle and the wait can often be over a hour long. Aroy Mak is a very authentic Thai restaurant and uniquely has khao man gai, gai tod, and gai yang on their menu. I haven't seen any other Thai places nearby with these chicken dishes. The prices are on the higher end for local Thai restaurants, so I tried to stick with their more unique entrees instead of the standard curry and noodle dishes for my takeout order. I got the Combo Khao Man Gai + Gai Yang because I wanted to try as many of their chicken dishes as I could without ordering them separately. I should have added an order of gai tod to compare the combo against an individual order. The 2 different flavors of sauces which come with the chicken are addicting! I could dump those on plain rice and just eat that. I was extremely hungry and felt there wasn't enough chicken in the combo to share with another person unless I ordered other dishes for both of us. The $3 difference between combo and single orders doesn't seem to add up, but I'll be able to confirm it next time if I order just one chicken entree to compare. The small winter melon soup which comes with the chicken is very basic, but tasty and also rare to find in restaurants in the area. I've only seen and had a larger version of it on a past special menu at Secret Savory. I also ordered my first tom kha here. The ingredients list said it's chicken thigh, but the texture wasn't what I expected. It was more like the kind of chicken they use in fast casual Thai restaurants in the area. I was hoping they used the same kind as their Hainanese chicken - something smoother. I don't know why there's so much galangal and lemongrass left in the soup (maybe that's just how all tom khas are?), but I prefer them to be left out when served, so I don't have to strain and pick around them. read more

Introduced friend for the first time she has a soy allergy and they were very responsive to answering questions and letting her know which sauces didn't contain it. Food is always fresh and delicious here. I directed my friend towards and chicken and rice dish as Travis what they are known for but really you can't go wrong with anything at Aroy Mak. She thoroughly enjoyed her dish and I love Khao Soi so couldn't resist ordering it from the February specials menu. Generous portions and always the best of service. Amazing. This restaurant has been on my want to go list for a while now as I see elite yelper Marie B. post often about this place and her pics always showcase the delicious food. Thank you Marie B. for posting about Aroy Mak Thai Food! After my first visit I think I am obsessed...Still thinking about how delicious the food was and how excited I am to go back! This place is busyyy and they are obviously a popular dine in and take out option. Seemed like there are a lot of regulars here as the servers welcomed people by name and even hugged a few. We parked in front in the lot with the shared businesses which was convenient and free. We waited maybe 10-15 minutes after putting our name on the list which we didn't mind and wasn't a long wait in our opinion. The restaurant is beautiful, warm, and inviting. They even had holiday and Christmas decor up! Once seated we felt the tables and booths were very comfy and the overall vibe was super welcoming. The menu has plenty of options making it hard for me to decide what delicious option to try! We started off with the stir fried green beans in garlic sauce as it looked like almost every table was eating that and it looked delicious.... It was! The garlic sauce was my favorite part of the dish and I was happy they gave a spoon on the side so I could scoop up all that delicious sauce :) We also ordered a pot of the cream earl grey tea which was a treat and very satisfying. Hot tea is always cozy and comforting to me. For the main dish I went with the Gai Krob Kra Tiem. The chicken was so delicious and crispy...it was soooo delectable my mouth waters just thinking about that dish. I need to go back!!! My man ordered the Thai Panang Curry. He doesn't like much spice at all so he asked I think the lowest spice level or less spice. I tried his dish and it was delicious and he enjoyed it as well. For me the dish was not spicy at all (I enjoy very spicy food, hot sauce, spicy everything), but for his preference the dish was too spicy so he couldn't finish it which was a little disappointing for him being honest. We took his leftovers to go and I finished the rest of his food later so it def didn't go to waste! He still enjoyed this restaurant a lot and is also excited to return with me to try their other food options. We plan to return in the spring and summer seasons for the Mango Sticky Rice as my man loves mango sticky rice. We wanted to try the mango stick rice but since that is only available in the summer we got the next best which was the mango ice cream with pandan stick rice- it was amazing, the ice cream was refreshing and all the flavors went great together coupled with coconut flakes for texture and coconut milk for the rice to soak up. I will have to go back to try the mango sticky rice! The rest of the food also did not disappoint. The gai yang was my favorite, especially paired with the Thai spicy sauce and special sauce. We were a group of 4 when we had lunch here. This must be our 5th time, but we come back to try new things and introduce our friends to this place. We had the Khao Mon Gai, Yellow Curry, Pad See Ew, Fried Chive Cakes and the Green Beans. All of them were exceptional , as usual...especially the Pad See Ew which is usually my measuring guide of a good Thai restaurant. And it was perfect! The only slight let down is the greasy not quite risen roti, which cane with the curry. It's as if the oil was not hot enough. That's a slight bauble to a perfect experience. So this is incredibly long overdue! I was an OG at Aroy Mak, back when they were in West Seattle. I'd had hainan chicken before at a few different places, and while they weren't bad, I hadn't been impressed by any (even Nong's Khao Man Gai in Portland). I can still clearly remember my first visit in West Seattle - with an old friend, we quite literally ate it outside of the closed YMCA doorway and it was inCREDIBLE! And now, I still love this place enough to drive sometimes over an hour (one way) to enjoy it. I love that they have combo's, how they fry the chicken in strip individually, and every bite is juicy. Their sauce is important, they give you both a sweet chili sauce and thai spicy sauce and they are both tasty. The sweet chili sauce is NOT your typical sauce, they make it themselves and you can tell. It's light and not overwhelmingly sweet. Their thai spicy sauce is of course delicious, I actually like it on my rice paired with a bite of chicken the most. And the slices of cucumber are refreshing, helping break up the yeet hay (oily, fried, heavy). This is also my number one spot for DESSERT! Oh the amount of times I am sad this restaurant is so far, because i'm craving their warm pandan longan sticky rice dessert, in particular. And the owners are amazing, I see them every single time i'm in. They know the food, the shop, the customers like no other place. This most recent visit, there were several interactions that show repeat customers and thoughtful care to everyone - including age, identity, and ethnicity. No one was treated any different, sharing hugs, jokes, thoughtful memories - all in my 1 hour visit! Expect to wait - we waited close to 30-40 minutes around 7pm with closing time of 8:30pm, and there were still plenty of folks waiting when we left (at basically 8:30p). Despite that, the staff were all very attentive and still so kind and thoughtful - that's incredibly impressive. Even the staff who weren't directly interacting with customers were monitoring everyone's experience. This has to be the best customer service in all of Seattle, I know I sound like i'm glazing hard but it's true. I've never witnessed such love despite it being closing, despite a long day, despite i'm sure what they have going on in their own lives - and you can feel the love when you're there. Green curry and drunken noodles were great and big enough to split with our table of four. Of course we got a dessert and went with the traditional dessert-not sure the name but it had a sticky rice, egg custard and a cream or coconut milk. Soooo good!! read more

While this place has unique dishes and friendly service, the rest of the experience was a bit disappointing. Everything feels rushed. There are no reservations, and the yelp waitlist can only be joined in the restaurant. We waited an extra 20 min past our supposed check in time to be seated and were asked to order outside before getting to our table. The dishes came one by one, leaving the last person to get food watching the others eat. Food-wise, it's mostly chicken focused. I liked the grilled best, but all the chicken clearly had sugar on top, making it glazy. It also had skin on it, which I do not want on my chicken. The soup was mediocre. The rice was good but I'd rather not have it at all, as it was just a distraction from the chicken. No vegetables provided except two slices of cucumber. There is a spice tray, which, when added to the sauce provided, made the chicken yummy when dipped. On its own, though, the chicken was just okay. The restaurant is nice inside and I loved the attentiveness of the servers once we got seated and finally got our food. I will probably not be back, but it was an interesting experience. read more

This spot is a gem! Delicious Thai food and friendly warm service. We are vegan so we get the garlic tofu, the pad Thai made vegan is also really delicious as well. It's a cute, lively, little restaurant, almost always await, but the service again is excellent and they have special dishes and serving more for kids, which is thoughtful. read more
