This is a beautiful venue and I do not regret having my wedding here in September…read more I give it only 4 stars because of the difficulties I had with Julia, the Event Coordinator. She was unprofessional and very short with me when communicating though email even though I was nothing but friendly with her. When we first looked at the venue in person, she spent the whole time texting on her phone, and when I asked her questions about where couples typically have the ceremony she said "I don't really know anything about what they do because I am not here when they have the event." The worst part was the day of the event when Julia neglected to give me the passcode to enter---on the day of my wedding. We were doing the setup ourselves and working with very limited time and I ended up getting the code 45 minutes past when we should have had it! She claimed she "thought she had given it to me" and basically gave me a "whoops" when she looked back in her messages and found out she didn't. For a venue as nice as this, Julia certainly isn't doing them any favors. Otherwise, I have nothing but good things to say about this place. It is far more beautiful in person than what you see in the pictures, and the views from the inside and outside are amazing. I love that we could do both our ceremony outside in the sand, and our reception inside (with great views!) without having to have our guests change venues. It does, however, get very hot inside in the warmer months even with the fans and air conditioning since the place is screened in. All in all, the Lake House was the perfect casual, warm and inviting setting to have our small wedding!

I am on the road at least once a month, and this is the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel. When I came to the front desk, there was a large group checking in. One of the clerks offered to check me in and the other person at the front desk who, as it turns out was the manager, told this desk clerk, "Don't worry about HIM right now we have this group to check-in." Maybe a greeting such as, "Sir, please be patient for a minute. We are checking in a group" would have made me feel like more of a welcome guest. When the manager finally got around to addressing me, she said without explanation, "I'm going to move you across the street to the Hampton Inn." I figured that was fine, since I have gold status with Hilton. She got in her car and led me across the street to the Springhill Suites. When I asked about the Hampton, she said, don't worry, this is a newer hotel. Don't worry, it's the same price." Except, it was not. They did not even show a reservation for me, and the desk clerk at the Springhill Suites got ready to charge me $270 for 1 night. When I explained that my whole visit was supposed to be under $500 for 3 nights, he got on the phone with the Holiday Inn Express. 5 minutes later, I said the heck with it and walked out. It turns out the Hampton Inn in Camden was full, so I wound up having to get a room in Clemson. Two hours later, the manager from Holiday Inn called me to say, if I still needed a room, she had one. Thanks, but no thanks. I spent 35 years working in customer service for an airline, and I knew what was expected of me when I was serving the public. The manager of the Holiday Inn Express in Camden could stand to have a little refresher course on how to treat their customers and make them want to return.

I arrived earlier than usual and was immediately greeted by a super pleasant and helpful front desk…read moreattendant. She quickly ran through all the amenities and offered me a Gold member welcome gift--mostly snacks and sweets. I might go back for the waters later, but it was a thoughtful gesture and more than some Hiltons offer. The snack area was well-stocked with a mix of healthy and indulgent options. Check-in was fast and smooth. The third-floor hallway carpet is something else--very retro, like stepping into the 1960s. Not bad, not great, just... there. My room was overall clean, though I noticed some corners in the bathroom with buildup where cleaning tools clearly miss. The bathroom itself is bright and may have recently gotten new wallpaper, though in the sleeping area the wallpaper corners were peeling and could use a quick touch-up with paste. There's a combo tub and shower, but the grout around the tub is missing and the baseboard--made of brick or stone--is pushed out and cracking. Towels are basic: small washcloths, undersized hand towels, and standard bath towels. A nightlight is built into the outlet, which is always a plus. The barn-style sliding door covers either the bathroom or the closet, depending on its position. Inside the closet were a blanket, iron, ironing board, hangers, and a luggage rack--points for that. The room has two queen beds, a flat desk with a drawer, a raised TV area with drawers, microwave, coffee maker (the kind you take out and plug in), ice bucket, and a mini fridge that works well. A few scuffs and wear are visible on the cabinet, but nothing major. Lighting is adequate: a lamp on the desk, one between the beds, and an overhead near the door. Plugs are everywhere--USB and AC on the TV stand, between the beds, and by the desk lamp. Very convenient. Breakfast the next morning was in a clean, well-maintained space. The hot food options included grits, those small omelet-style eggs (today's were Western-style with bell peppers), and a waffle station still offering pumpkin spice batter in May. There were pastries, fruits, including bananas, and bacon that wasn't really edible in my opinion. Still, there was plenty to choose from. I briefly interacted with the breakfast attendant, who was pleasant. Later that night, I returned around 8:45 p.m. and noticed no one at the front desk. I went to my room, then came back down for a couple waters--still no staff present. I waited for a bit, then left. As a Gold member, I hadn't taken waters at check-in, so it felt fair. Still, the lack of presence at the front desk for over an hour was a little unsettling. Coffee service is where this hotel shines. They offer complimentary coffee stations in the lobby--how all hotels should do it. None of that \$6 coffee nonsense. They also include an in-room Hamilton Beach coffee maker with individually wrapped disposable filter trays. I can't overstate how much I appreciate that sanitary feature. No gross Keurig here, thankfully. The coffee station was always available when I passed through--huge win. One oddity: there's a Honeywell thermostat on the wall, but it doesn't light up or respond. The real controls are on the unit below the window. Not sure if it's a leftover from a previous setup or something else, but it doesn't function. At checkout, the staff member was extremely pleasant. In total, I encountered three employees during my stay, and all were polite, friendly, and professional. Overall, a solid stay with thoughtful touches and a few minor quirks.

The hallways to the rooms were humid. Elevator works good and clean, shook a bit but that was fine. The room, clean, offered toiletries if you forgot any. The tub is very slippery so be careful about that. The room smelled off, was a bit strong, a bit mold, other guests about allergies with the smell, it was also humid. Pet Friendly! Cockroach in the room, also found cockroach leg in other bed. Breakfast was yummy. There is a pool that goes about 5 ft deep, no life guard on duty though. Constant beeping sound near the telephone/lamps. My room was 311. There was a huge tick! 3.8/5

I booked the venue for 10/25, but on 10/23, things went left. Up until then, communication and everything else had been fine. However, the owner gave one of my vendors incorrect information regarding communication, which wasn't true and felt unprofessional. That's when my experience started to shift. Another thing that bothered me was being asked to pay a damage waiver, then later finding out from my decorator that the owner had been onsite during setup. When I arrived around 7:30 PM for my Halloween photoshoot, the owner was sitting outside in her car. While I was inside taking pictures, she remained nearby. Once I realized she was still there, I decided not to continue my shoot and texted my decorator to come gather her things. Once my decorator came to collect her items, the owner joined us inside and stayed there until we finished, which added to the uneasy feeling I already had. Even though the event itself was canceled and I only used the venue for a photoshoot, I still paid for full-day access and expected to feel comfortable during my rental time. The venue is beautiful, but the owner's approach and lack of professionalism really took away from what could have been a much better experience. Update to Owner's Response: First, let's talk about communication. You were being lazy -- plain and simple. You know we've been communicating through email and Facebook Messenger, and your own response to my message (which I'll gladly post) proves my point. Second, I changed my personal phone number, which I'm under no obligation to share with you, especially since we were already in contact through multiple other ways. Instead of reaching out by email or Messenger like you've always done, you chose not to contact me at all -- and then lied by saying you couldn't reach me. What's worse is you contacted my decorator first, before even attempting to message me directly, and I have receipts of you admitting it. Third, let's address the deposit situation. I was asked to pay a damage waiver while you were onsite the entire time, monitoring everything during setup and throughout the evening. That didn't sit right with me, because if you're physically present the whole time, what exactly is the waiver protecting you from? Also, when we book an event, we're paying for private use of that space during the hours listed on the contract -- not for the owner to hover or interfere. You're supposed to be on contact for emergencies, not stationed inside the venue watching over everyone like a chaperone. Lastly, I don't care if you and my decorator worked well together or if other clients like you being onsite -- I didn't ask for you to be there. My review reflects my experience, not anyone else's.

Everything was set up as I asked for it to be. Throughout the process I felt that special attention was being given to my requests and timeframes. The owner even threw in some extras that I had not thought to ask for. I was grateful for her consideration, because that was above the tenets of our contract. Many of my guests remarked on the space and inquired about booking it for their events. I was so pleased, that I have already booked the space for another event this year. I am always excited/grateful when supporting small business owners goes well. I can say, without a doubt, that Luxe will be my go to venue in the future.
