Tried this place on a whim with friends for restaurant week and we were not disappointed! We tried a variety of appetizers and entrees and everything was delicious. Every chicken dish was so moist and flavorful - some of the best chicken I've ever had out! Great flavors. Don't skip on the spicy margarita, also! All we can say is "wow"! We were always wowed coming here when it was called the London Curry House but always suspected the owners were up to something different that reflected who they are. They do not disappoint!! Indochen is like a breath of fresh Himalayan air. The dishes we've tried are all amazing. Yesterday, we had the chicken spring roll, soybean salad, Mandarin fish and veggie chow mein topped with the sesame tofu. Wow. Wow. Wow. To call the maker of this Shirley Temple a bartender is a complete understatement. This Shirley Temple was made by an artist. Very pretty Shirley Temple indeed. See the below photo for reference. For starters, this person knows what a Shirley Temple is as evidenced by the inclusion of cherries (seems like a low bar, but you'd be surprised at how many restaurants aren't the wiser). Great presentation, great sprite to grenadine ratio. I was a little hesitant that the grenadine was concentrated all at the bottom, but it looked fancy and with a quick stir it was ready to drink, so I approve. The only thing I have to point out is that they used luxardo cherries. The standard is to use maraschino cherries, it makes a big difference. Eating a luxardo cherry when you're accustomed to a maraschino cherry is like opening a tin cookie container only to find it filled with sewing equipment. However, I thoroughly appreciate the effort to provide cherries nevertheless. It shows a real attention to detail and care for the restaurant experience. This person more than sufficiently made did with what they had in their inventory. As my friend Maria very eloquently put it, this is an architect's Shirley Temple. Four stars for presence of cherries and presentation. This would most certainly be five stars with maraschino cherries. Also, the service was great. Harshit took very good care of us. My glass of water was always full, I don't think I've ever drank so much water in one sitting in my life. Certainly five star service. Don't you just love it when you find a new restaurant - an absolute gem - while meandering a new-to-you neighborhood? How is it that I didn't know about Indochen before? How are you and I just finding out about this place? Clearly you're reading to find out if you should stop by for dinner with your family or your new flame or your old flame that needs rekindling or, well, I don't know why you're going. But, no matter the reason, the environment works. Comfortable seating, nice lower lighting that's not too low, nicely decorated without being starkly bare or totally ornate or pretentious. I especially love how they didn't crowd the place to maximize every last inch of space. You won't be able to see the nose hairs of the neighboring table here. (Don't laugh - I actually left a restaurant once because it felt like I was sitting on top of a gentleman who hadn't bathed or brushed his teeth or trimmed his nose hair in weeks. Couldn't stomach the price - literally - to eat in that environment.) You'll be able to speak to your dining partners without worrying about whether or not your neighbors can hear every word. The menu is extensive. We ordered several items to try. For the first course, the samosas were a deal at $6. Nicely sized, not an ounce of grease on them, and delightfully seasoned. The lamb dumplings were a steal of a deal at $8 and, I believe, made in-house. Delightful. The fish bites were a hit with both me and my companion, and I don't even like salmon. Fabulous sauce. Fabulous. Next, we ordered three main courses. Yes, three. I have no problem looking at someone in the face and ordering three main courses - of which one is a double order meant for two people - for two folks. Mama loves her food and often grocery shops for the week at restaurants! The ribs were soft and meaty. The portion, even for two, was HUGE. Sauce was just right - not too little and not too much. Gentle heat anyone can tolerate. Came with a large portion of vegetarian biryani. I found the biryani slightly too salty for my taste but not too badly. Besides, salt is an individual thing. Better than having no flavor, right? Rice perfectly cooked and even reheated perfectly. While I loved the ribs, I probably wouldn't order again. There's just too much else here to try. The palek paneer provided a much needed respite from all sorts of different flavor profiles hitting at once. It wasn't bland, but it didn't fight anything else either. Big, large chunks of cheese, creamy spinach, delicately delicious. I'd order again. The star of the show for me was the fish mandarin, and that's saying something as I generally do not order fish. Lots of meat here - not always the case when ordering a whole fish. Prepared perfectly. And the sauce? I can't even describe the sauce. I'd buy that sauce by the gallon. Rice pudding with coconut to finish everything off. Not too sweet. Creamy. Nice. I can't rave enough about the quality of the food or the fair prices asked. Lastly, we need to talk about the service which, actually, should come first. You can go to the fanciest of restaurants, eat the most expensive of foods prepared in the most expert of ways. If that service is off, everything else is ruined. So please know the service at this restaurant is even better than the food. ALL employees are watching your table, filling your water glasses, asking if you need anything - whether they're your server or not. When's the last time you've seen that? Our server, Ashok, and his assistant, Midori, epitomized graceful, attentive service at its finest. They were unrushed and kind and detailed and knowledgeable and eager to please. I don't know why I haven't reviewed Indochen before- we go there often enough! Ha ha. We love Indochen for both dine-in and take-out. The food is delicious, the drinks menu is impressive (I love their mango lassi and all my friends rave about the barrel-aged manhattans) and their service is impeccable. It's a great place to go with friends, with a date, or alone. The portion sizes are generous (we almost always have leftovers. Yum!) and everything is sparkling clean. They are right on the edge of a lovely park, so when you're finished eating, you can go for a sunset walk while you digest! Highly recommend! read more

Don't think I have ever encounter any poorer service than what I received tonight. My group of 6 friends visited the restaurant at 730. There was about a handful of tables. Though it appears to be understaffed, we kept seeing other tables getting served and not us. For our entire one and half hour experience here, below is a break of our time spend: - 20 minutes waiting for a server to greet us after getting seated (only 20 minutes because one of us got us and asked for a staff to help us) - 15 minutes to get our drinks - 20 minutes to get our food - 20 minutes eating - 15 minutes awkwardly sitting around trying to wait for our checks Really would not recommend the service of this restaurant read more

Beautiful restaurant for sure, and it's not going to break your bank. This restaurant located in one of the neighborhoods in Arlington, nice renovated building in front of a community park. Parking is easy. I was here for lunch and they are open at noon. They have pretty big space so social distancing is easy to uphold. They have lunch bowl menu and it's fantastic. I ordered chicken tika masala and Palak paneer. They Tika masala was really good, it comes with veggies rice and some kind of crispy chip. Palak paneer was good but not as good as the tika, portion for both are big enough. We also ordered naan and mango lassi. Both are delicious. It's highly recommend to have lunch here, will try different menu items next time. I believe they used to be called London curry house if you plug it in GPS. read more

3.5 stars! Honestly I did like the older concept of this restaurant better when it was the London style curry Indian restaurant. The decor inside was much cuter and now it is kind of cold and emptier with the color choice they they chose. The service was fast initially but then incredibly slow and they need more servers instead of one. I can't speak to the Chinese food since I didn't really try it by one time here but the Indian food just was not as good as it used to be! However certain dishes were still tasty. The chili chicken appetizer was delicious and definitely had a decent amount of spice and I would say it was medium spicy. The chicken tikka masala I was definitely disappointed with. The chicken itself was hard and not tender at all and I had one piece of chicken that I could not even eat because it tasted overcooked. They did not give much sauce with the chicken tikka masala and I guess it seem like a smaller portion than they used to give. The sauce itself was good but it just was disappointing. The palak paneer was delicious however! And the serving size seems pretty big. The spinach was flavorful and not too creamy and there were big pieces of paneer in it. However they were not tender at all and definitely hard which was unappetizing. This place is decently good but it is not as amazing as what it used to be. Maybe I will come back and try the Chinese stuff. read more

This was a huge disappointment, especially after seeing so many glowing reviews. I was looking forward to some real Indo-Chinese food, but this was not it (as confirmed by someone else who is from India and said it was definitely not authentic). Instead what we got was sub-par takeout Chinese food (veggie chop suey and veggie chow mein). Everything was bland, a lot of the veggies were over-cooked, and the gravy in the chop suey tasted like it came from an instant packet. I'm giving them two stars, however, because the location was nice (even though I didn't dine-in, due to COVID concerns) and the vegetable Manchurian was decent. I will not return here and will continue my search for good Indo-Chinese food in the DMV. read more

Edit: heard from the owner after this review was posted, and he apologized and said they would reconsider the approach they took last night, and asked that I give it another shot. I appreciate that and have raised to 3 stars as a result. Will update further after trying the place again. Tonight was a tale of two restaurants, and unfortunately this one lost. I came in and sat at the bar, intending to have dinner here. Restaurant was maybe 1/4 full. Ordered the spicy margarita which is delicious, and had high hopes. The owner was bartending and I asked him if I could get the whole fish, but replace the sauce with a curry instead. His response was no, you can only have it the way it is on the menu. Unfortunately I've had that dish before, and the sauce mandarin is too sweet and cloying, and ruins what is otherwise a good fish. This is a common problem here -- their sauces are not quite right, not savory enough and too present... if that makes sense. They don't let the ingredients shine. I was also put off by the attitude of "my way or the highway" which I believes comes off in the good, but expensive, menu in general. Anyway, the whole interaction deeply saddened me. If the local neighborhood joint can't accommodate a regular guest by trying something a little different and better, does it deserve its clientele? I'd say no. Contrast with Akeno, up the road, where I ended up going, and the food quality, the service and the entire atmosphere was 180 out. Will review them separately. read more

This restaurant is offering some of the most unusual combinations of spices, we have found in the DMV. A great mix of - as the name suggests - Indian and Asian flavors. For example the spring rolls are served with a complimentary surround of greens and sweet sauce. Great to start. Also, Lamb dumplings are prepared to order. Savory lamb wrapped in a thin dough with a fusion sauce on the side. Spicy, but not too hot. Main dishes are choices from traditional Indian Biryani and Tikka to Salmon with Indian spices and Asian spice infused sides. Wonderfully cheerful and helpful staff. I had ordered from them during the pandemic, but I had never been to their location in person. I came in recently and was very pleased. There were several tables of people who appeared to be regulars, which is a good sign. I ate at the bar while some NBA G League games were being broadcast. I got lamb rogan josh ($22.00), garlic naan ($4.00), daal makhani ($7.00), a Bombay Sapphire on the rocks ($12.00), and some gulab jamun ($7.00). Gulab jamun is balls of pancake dough with a syrup similar to maple syrup, but not quite as thick. The Bombay Sapphire was excellent. The consistency was slightly syrupy, but with a very dry taste. I like my drinks very dry. It is best to drink it before the ice cubes melt, since it is not as good watered down. The sales tax was $5.72, and I left about a 20% tip. The 11% sales tax is very high, and was extremely controversial when Alexandria was debating enacting the law. It is not such a big deal when dining in, but when you are ordering delivery, the sales tax, service fee, delivery fee, and tip for the driver double the cost of the meal. There is no way this tax has not cost restaurants lost business because orders were never made to begin with. Alexandria really needs to reconsider this tax. The service was quick and friendly. The decor is ultramodern. Keep up the excellent work. read more

I stopped by Indochen for lunch randomly and ended up greatly enjoying my experience and making plans to come back! We ordered the the Kale Chaat as an appetizer. I have never seen an Indian restaurant offer Chaat made with a kale base and I really enjoyed the healthier twist on the dish. The kale was super crisp and allowed the flavors of the various sauces to really shine through. We also ordered the Lamb Biryani Pot for two, Butter Naan, a Mango Lassi, and some Gulab Jamun for dessert. The portion size for the biryani was huge and the Mango Lassi was the perfect complement, helping to soothe my tongue from all the (great) spices incorporated into the Biryani. The Butter naan was equally and perfectly fluffy and buttery while the Gulab Jamun was a nice way to end the meal off with something sweet. I do wish that the Biryani came with more Raita, as the serving size was incredibly small compared to the amount of Biryani that you are served.  I'm giving four out of five stars because while the Biryani is part of the lunch special, it isn't included with the special lunch deal that they have available where you can add on things such as the Mango Lassi, Naan, and Gulab Jamun for a cheaper price. read more

I called yesterday and I have to say the customer service and order taking was top notch. Process was very quick, and our order was delivered exactly as placed. I ordered the salmon, butter chicken, dumplings, and the nam bread. I have mixed reviews on their food, based on my previous experience with the their Indian cuisine when it was under administration by the London Curry House. The food felt sub-par, and I was assured it was the same food under the previous administration, but unfortunately it was not. The butter chicken was not the same quality chicken, it was not properly salted, and it lacked overall spice, typically found in this type of cuisine. The salmon was good, nothing absolutely fantastic, but good, and the dumplings and bread were excellent. I like supporting local business especially in this crisis, so I will try them again and update the review if things are different, but for right now I'll say it's ok. read more

Decide to try out Indochen on a nice day taking advantage of their outdoor seating. Chose three small plates which was easily enough for one person. The vegetable Manchurian were not as crispy as I expected, but had a great flavor. The chilli chicken had a good spice to it, about at my limit (which isn't much, to be honest).
