    Kale chaat
    Zarin B.

Came by on a special night where they were offering 50% off the entire menu so we got to try a bunch of different things! - kale chaat: 8/10 delicious, light, easy to eat a lot of. Not as strong in spices as Indian chats - wild boar: 9/10 delicious skewers seasoned perfectly! Tasted almost like pork belly. Crispy fatty goodness. - chatpatey: 9/10 very authentic, spicy with green chilies. Had raw chickpeas which I've only ever had at home. Hard to stop eating. - yak momo in jhol: 6/10 I liked the jhol but the yak in it was a little too gamey for me in this form. Momos themselves were made perfectly so I'd order this again with a different meat. - yak korma: 10/10 SO good!!! Creamy, flavorful, goes great with the cumin basmati rice they bring with it. This made top two dishes of the night. - goat biryani: 10/10 BEST BIRYANI I've had outside my mom's house, perfectly cooked and can feed a whole family of 6. Spices are perfect, just spicy enough to have a kick, had tons of goat meat. I can't say enough good things about this. Made top 2 dish of the night. - braised yak: 9/10 this was really good! Very tomatoey and complex in flavor. Would get again for sure. - kurauni: 8/10 a little too sweet for my taste but I loved this, its made of milk solids. Delicious and rich, need to share with someone to finish. - sweet bruleed yogurt: 9/10 delicious tarte sweet yogurt dessert, for refreshing! Love that they bruleed the top a little to add some texture. Perfect ending to a rich meal. Overall this place exceeded my expectations big time. They were so generous with the portions and brought everything out so fast even though they were swamped due to this 50% off night. This is officially my new favorite restaurant in Ballston!!

I have been wanting to try this place because they had yak meat and seemed to have some really good food. I finally came here and started with the yak momo. I thought the yak momo was great. It tastes like ground beef and was slightly chewier. It also came with a tasty sauce. We received some bread to the table that came with pickled cucumbers, which were both tasty. My friend and I also got a separate Nepali set tha came with aloo gobi, daal, spinach, rice, the sauce from the yak momos and our choice of chicken/lamb/paneer/yak curry. I went with the chicken and my friend went with lamb. I would definitely choose the lamb one next time. We had plenty of leftovers for future dinners. The service was slightly slow at times, but they made up for it for the food. The ambiance is great. There was plenty of space between tables, which was great. Overall, I would definitely come back here!

this is my first time going to a restaurant, purely dedicated to Nepalese cuisine. It did not disappoint. This was incredibly hearty, with a variety of textures and flavor profiles I'd highly recommend the goat bhutan and crispy kale chat as appetizers, and the yak korma as an entree. the naan was the freshest i'd ever had. The interior is also clean and sleek

Himalayan Wild Yak opened up its Arlington location (with its OG location in Ashburn) a few months ago and I waited for the hype to die down a bit before giving it a try. My work friends and I had a hard time finding parking in the area, so we had to park ~15 minute walk away. The interior is spacious and modern with the perfect AC to cool us down. YAK MOMO (8 PIECES) - 14 The momos were steamed perfectly with a wrapper that isn't too thick or thin, and each one contained a generous amount of yak meat. It was delicious and hearty, and I'd highly recommend this. NEPALI SET MEAL (YAK) - 24 This came with yak curry?, cauliflower and potato curry, lentils, and spinach. There was a sauce/dip and some rice on the side as well. I enjoyed the sides a lot. I honestly didn't know if I enjoyed the lentils or spinach more. Everything was well-seasoned with unique flavors of their own. However, I didn't like the yak curry as much as I thought. It was overly fatty to the point where it was no longer enjoyable. If I get the set meal again, I would try a different protein option. We went with yak this time because we wanted to try as many yak options as possible. GOAT CURRY - 22 The goat curry came with a generous amount of goat chunks, almost like a stew. It also came with a small pot of white rice. I enjoyed the rich flavors of the curry, and the goat flavor wasn't too gamey, and it was very tender. Some pieces contained a bit of cartilage and fat, which gave it an extra chewy texture here and there that was delicious. I enjoyed this, and would recommend it, but found it a bit too fatty. Food was pretty good, but a bit fatty. Overall, this was an affordable meal where we paid 22 per person (pre-tip) and still had ample leftovers. I'd come back for the yak momos again, and the three of us agreed that was our favorite out of the three things we tried.

A friend brought me here. Apparently it's a chain, either way I was happy to be introduced to this spot. The food is really great , I orders a chicken curry dish that was close to butter chicken and didn't have any regrets. The service was good and the waiter had some great recommendations. Overall a very cleanly kept restaurant with great lighting and wouldn't mind stopping by to try more of their menu.

I can't wait to go back! Of course it's good, Nepalese food is always good, but I gotta give huge brownie points for the new experience, providing me with the opportunity to try yak! I will say, I think I liked my wife's yak korma more than my yak shank so that's more of a testament to how amazingly delicious her dish was especially when we add in our own touch of raisins. The dessert was also something new, imagine rice pudding and flan had a baby in the Himalayas then add your own dash of cinnamon and sit back to take in the view with this simple homey treat. Now rewind to the beginning! That slightly sweet rice bread was so simple yet so captivating, it took all of my will power to save a little bit to clean up the end of the korma. I'm trying to decide if it reminded me of a more savory mochi or donut maybe. The yak momos livesld up to their reputation and were just as great as everything but the star of the show was definitely the wild boar! It was tender, juicy, unique, flavorful, I couldn't believe there was this new type of meat I had never tried and still so damn good. Someday soon I'll come back during lunch which they discount 25% woohoo

New restaurant in ballston, service was so nice and friendly. We came for dinner on a Friday night and it was packed, especially with the nice weather people were sitting on the patio. I got the cucumber cooler cocktail, and was actually pretty impressed with how good it was. My boyfriend and I got several dishes to share and everything was delicious! I definitely recommend the yak momos, with the jhol sauce, only wish they gave more jhol! We also got the palak chat, crispy pork belly, butter chicken, and goat curry. Everything was solid and I would come back to try more.

Good vibes and good food at the grand opening! Came by to try some authentic Nepali food on the day of their grand opening. I had such a wonderful experience. Every team member here that we came in contact with was so kind. They were also extremely grateful for our support. The interior of the restaurant is cute and and modern, but in an inviting way. The restaurant is decorated with beautiful artwork, fresh flowers, and napkins with traditional Nepali patterns. The food was pretty good! I personally enjoyed the yak Momo the most. I also loved the garlic naan. The cauliflower curry was also good but probably best eaten at the restaurant (I ordered takeout). The sel roti and radish were also delightful. I'm curious as to whether they'll offer lunch specials in the near future given their location. Looking forward to my next visit!

I called ahead and made a reservation although when we did get there, there was enough space to spare for a party of four. We tried the yak Momos as a starter and they were pretty tasty. Subsequently we ordered the goat curry, the butter chicken, the wild boar and mustard, and the Nepali set meal and they were all delicious.. They did have pretty loud Nepalese music playing which was a bit of a distraction. The service is good and the server was friendly and attentive. I will be trying out their other locations in our area.

Came here on a Sunday night and we made a reservation ahead of time which was a good call- lots of people there. We ordered a ton of food and shared plates. Our favorite dishes were the Yak Korma, yak momo, and wild boar soo yummy! The crispy goat was a bit dry and the crispy Kale had some odd flavors to it. The mango lassi was amazing! They also played only Taylor Swift music for the whole two hours we were there which didn't really fit the vibes and also got tiring after a while. There was also patio seating available

The chili paneer was a bit sweet, although the paneer was delicious, really chewy and flavorful. Goat momos had so much flavor, the soup was delicious, loved it. And I'm sad we did, because the food was NOT good. We ordered - Impossible meat momos 3/5 - they were okay...not the best and not the greatest. The flavor was hiding and the momo did not stay in tact at all. The sauce that they served alongside did not enhance the momo at all. Veggie momo 3/5 - again, they were okay. In fact, I think these were worst than the impossible meat momos. Didn't seem like there was any flavor and just veggies mushed together with salt and pepper. Raita 3/5 - way too liquidy for my liking. I thought they would at least provide rice, but no. So it was just basically liquid yogurt with a couple of strips of cucumbers and carrots. Paneer chili 0/5 - the container literally said 'paneer chili' and after 2/3 bites, I asked my friend if this was actually paneer because it was kind of chewy? Of course it wasn't and it was chicken!! I'm vegetarian so I was so disappointed that they put the wrong item in our order, especially since the container explicitly said paneer. This morning I woke up with a terrible stomachache. The food definitely did not sit right with me. I'm definitely going to skip this place and try Moh Moh Licious next time.

The prices were reasonable as well. What a great choice, quite literally the best Indian food we've ever had anywhere, hands down! We had an appetizer; samosa chaat, so good and fresh! We had butter chicken as an entree which had the most amazing, creamy, smooth taste I've ever had, no one does it like that! Also got the tandoori paneer tikki, so good, cheese was smoky and melts in mouth, the cheese and butter naan we got was yummy as well! We got a birthday drink too which was quite refreshing. During the meal the owner stopped to see how the food was, I told him it was the best we've ever had, I told him we we're celebrating my sons birthday, at the end of the meal he surprised him with a cake and turned on happy birthday music playing throughout the speakers in the restaurant ! Such a cool ending to a fantastic meal! Not only was the food fantastic but the owner is so friendly and nice! Cannot wait to go back !! You need to runnnnn there !!

The food here is extremely authentic and well seasoned I've eaten most of the lamb/goat dishes here and they're all phenomenal! The first time I came I believe my table had the goat curry, lamb curry, pani puri, samosa chaat, and butter chicken. And this time we got the goat sekuwa, lamb karahi, lamb thakali thali, and pani puri (again). I think it speaks volume about a place when the butter chicken (which is still great) is not the standout dish in a desi restaurant. And even then it's one of the most seasoned versions I've ever tasted. The dishes here are all amazing, flaborful, and not spicy (though I'm sure you can always ask about adding or taking away spice to the waiters). The service here is fast, there's never been a long line. And the place is very clean, spacious, and good for all ages. I cannot recommend this place enough, if you're debating whether or not you should come consider that debate over -- you're coming.

I've been eating here since Royal Nepal opened and was under different management. I've even dined at both the original (Brambleton, VA) and Arlington locations of Himalayan Wild Yak, a spin-off of sorts by two of the original owners. Both of these restaurants deserve your patronage as well when you're in either Arlington or out by Dulles. They are all great. The difference that Royal Nepal brings to the "table" is simple. They never lost that neighborhood feel and they don't take their patrons for granted. With a location down the block from the Birchmere and nestled in the up and coming Arlandria neighborhood of Alexandria, they project both a hometown restaurant feel as well as an adventurous vibe - have you ever eaten yak? The staff are real gems and the ambiance is a real treat from the "pickled veggies" on the window shelves down to the handmade Nepali napkins, this place is a virtual travelog. I can only say explore their menu and you're sure to find a treasure right here in the neighborhood.

CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA - 20 The chicken tikka masala was tangy and creamy, but also much too sweet. I wish they let the sweetness of tomatoes shine through, but they definitely added a lot of sugar in the curry. The chicken was cooked well, at least. BUTTER CHICKEN - 20 The butter chicken is a bit more orange in color compared to the chicken tikka masala, and also much more savory and even creamier. Personally, I liked this one more, and I had no complaints with the flavor. I would recommend this if you're looking for a staple. PALAK PANEER - 19 I am a huge palak paneer fan and so is one of my teammates. The curry was a deep evergreen color with lots of paneer chunks. It was spiced pretty nicely and the texture was more smooth than chunky. I personally really enjoyed this and would recommend it for the spinach and cheese lovers! CHICKEN MOMO - 12.50 Each order came with 10, which meant 2 per person! The chicken momos were delicious, and I enjoyed them. This would be a great appetizer to share with a group, but getting it for yourself as an entree is not a bad idea. People also enjoyed the LAMB ROGAN JOSH, but I personally didn't eat much of it enough to comment. There are plenty of beer, wine and cocktail options that my teammates enjoyed. Four entrees, a bread basket, and an appetizer was more than enough for the five of us, and we didn't pay a pretty penny for all of it. The food was fine for the most part, but some missed the mark. If I were to return, I would order the butter chicken, palak paneer, chicken momo, and garlic naan for the group.
