Given all the horror stories you've heard and read regarding working with construction. I have a large driveway with a three-car garage. And I was always curious as to why no one ever parked in my driveway. One day I asked one of the employees and he said they've been instructed not to park in the driveway, and no one ever did. It wasn't until later that I realized these employees have been trained. Trained not to block anyone's driveway, trained not to allow possible leaks onto someone's driveway, in other words trained to be considerate of the homeowner - trained to provide exceptional customer service. Impressive. I found this "training" throughout my experience with everyone associated with Menold. Communication is as important to them as it is to me. Everything they said they'd do - they did. Every time they said they'd be there - they were. The process from start to finish was communicated and expertly handled; they were thorough and professional in every way, friendly, considerate, and responsive. At first I thought this experience quite amazing. Then again, I think back to when I was trying to figure out who I was going to call. Menold was the only company that came to mind. They were the only company I called. What that tells me is Menold has a reputation - a reputation based on all the things I've discussed here. I recently sought quotes from 3 radon mitigation companies for work in my crawl space in an old…read morehome. Two other companies sent out inspectors and offered me quotes based on that inspection. Central Illinois Radon declined to inspect first, after 3 offers on my part to have them see it first, and committed several times in writing to a quote that came in under the other bids. Specifically, I asked, "Since you did not do an inspection, how can I best compare this to other quotes I have gotten, some of which are coming in higher? If I go with you, is this really all I will pay? Thanks again!" He replied, "Hi Meghan, my estimates are firm. Unless there is something out of the ordinary with the home? I've never increased the price of an install. If I under bid the project I take the hit sort of speak. Some Companies hire laborers and aren't on site completing the work themselves which drives up the cost. I'm on site completing the install. Hope this helps." I replied, "I guess the only crawl space I know is my own, so I don't know what is and is not ordinary. The home is old (as you know) but has had a lot of additions over the years, I think it's a bit atypical? I did get another estimate in that wasn't super high, though it did come in above yours. I'd be happy to move forward if you feel comfortable doing so. If you prefer to inspect first, I of course would understand that." He confirmed no need for inspection and that the price would remain firm. When they arrived to do the job today, they spent 10 minutes down there and told me there is no way to mitigate radon and that they were not able to complete the job -and left. Again, two other companies determined, after inspection, that the mitigation is indeed possible. So it seems that either Central Illinois Radon essentially backed out of their written commitment to eat the higher cost, OR they are not in fact capable to do radon mitigation like other companies in town who ostensibly own the same kind of business. Meanwhile the next company (one of the original bidders) can't get me in for another 7 weeks, which may impact my closing date on my house, and that's on top of the costs and hassle in the way I'd planned my day (e.g., paid to board my dog) and the other projects around the scheduled mitigation. It was a shocking and frustrating experience and I'd caution all to avoid working with the company, as they back out of commitments at best and are not capable at worst.

They sent two guys and a 20X20 tarp to cover the area above the kitchen and ducked tape the tarp to the chimney and charged $700+ for two hours of work when all they had to do was get a chimney kit and install it as the leak was around the chimney due to the flashing being blown apart in a recent storm. They said they would knock off $700 if they got the roofing job. They never called my son with a quote of the repairs or inspected the inside of the house to see where the leak was. What a rip off artist. I am a 72yr. old U.S. Marine, and I have never experienced such gross failure to consider the customer and give them a quality job for their hard earned dollars. Why cover 400sq. ft and charge that price when a simple fix would have done the job? I have pictures to prove the facts! They even left trash from the roll of duct tape and plastic tarp lying on the ground. They ripped my son off because he is living in Chicago. I have 9 rental properties in Springfield, but my will was ill and I could not get up there to repair it and save my son the hassle of dealing with a person who grossly overcharges for their services. Only a fool would consider giving them any business!!! I have only written one negative review in my life, so I do not make it a practice to do this. I have owned my own small business for 40+ years and know how hard you work to keep a good reputation and keep customers happy.
