I had come back on a late flight into RDU, and on my way home found myself hungry. Not many options this time of night in our area, and a Cook Out Tray just sounded great. So I pulled off of 40 and took a ride into Chapel Hill for this on-campus Cook-Out, appropriately decorated with all the proper blue. Easily 15 cars in the drive thru, but I think I was through it with hot food in around 15 minutes. My burger was cooked up perfectly, topped well, and hit the spot. The corn dogs were crispy outside like I like them, and I didn't have to ask for that. My Oreo mint shake, creamy and tasty as usual. The attendant at the window was friendly, and generally, it looked like the employees were having a good time in there while remaining busy. The menu is a bit overwhelming. They have a lot of options, and the combos are not numbered. You choose a tray, a main, two sides, and a drink. I opted for a double burger with everything on it, with jalapeno cheese fries and white cheddar cheese bites for sides. I upgraded the drink to a chocolate shake. They were pretty quick. I got my food from the drive thru very quickly. The burger was surprisingly good. The bag advertised the food as "cooked outdoors style" and that burger tasted like a burger bought at the grocery store, cooked over a flaming grill. The fries were a bit soft, but they were well salted, and covered in standard cheese sauce and fresh jalapeno. White cheddar cheese bites were tasty, but they didnt stretch like a mozzarella stick. The chocolate shake i ordered was super thick, creamy, and delicious. It's a simple burger, simple fries, simple shake, and it's cheap. And sometimes, simple and cheap is all you need. My favorite items here are the cheese bites and the milkshakes. I usually get the chocolate with blueberry. Yum! The burger is good and is always served like I ordered. It is wrapped in foil so it stays warm until I get home. The cheese bites don't make it home..... The huge tea is exactly that....huge and a lady's tastes fresh, even good the next day.
