Everyone in the family loved the new dining chairs. They are of excellent quality, super comfortable plus the price is very reasonable. Later I found out that the exact same chair is 20% more expensive in a nearby furniture store. Harald and his colleagues provided great service. We visited the store several times and they were all very nice and helpful. They notified me when the chairs were ready to be picked up earlier than the expected date. I love this store! Service is good when I go in. They carry a great line of indoor/outdoor furniture and great accessories at the back. Many contemporary brands are here including BDI, Calligaris, etc... and great decor items with a lot of clean and steel looks. This store does not carry contemporary designer pieces though (i.e. Eames, Arne Jacobsen, etc.) - you will need to head to Living Space or Inform for those. It is one of the more expensive furniture stores on South Granvile, similar to Inspiration (wider price range) and Spencer Interiors which are nearby. I enjoy browsing here and although I own pieces from the lines they carry, I have never actually purchased furniture from them because their prices have always been higher than other retailers in town. read more

After finding it is several retail outlets, I comparison priced it and found it at Industrial Revolution at a much lesser price. Harald was very helpful and I ordered it through him. This is the third attempt to acquire an acceptable sofa sleeper option for our condo; the previous purchases from other Vancouver stores resulted in dissatisfaction and huge frustration not to mention wasted money. We recently purchased a couple of accent chairs. They were a custom order and they turned out great. Delivered ahead of schedule. The look and comfort of the chairs is better than expected. This place had nice furniture and a couple of cool accent pieces, but I couldn't tell you if the quality was any good, because we didn't buy anything due to the snooty, high-strung service. I had 2-3 sales persons look at us and then pass us right up before a nice young blonde girl asked if we were finding everything ok 5-6 minutes after being in the store. Industrial Revolution - take note - you are NOT that special. Just because someone's not walking in with their nose to the sky, doesn't mean they don't have bills to drop in your store. read more

IR has been around for decades, and I've often stopped in this store over the years. I like most of their product line (although some of their recent inventory is not to my taste at all). So, I was thrilled to find a home-office suite there after looking at different options elsewhere for about six months. While I am happy with the quality of product (from the USA), I am less than enthused about the service offered to me before I finally got the whole set I thought I was buying -- and for more money than I had intended to pay. My first visit (re: the home-office suite, not my first time ever in the store) had to be a quick one. I saw the product, fell in love with it, and had a great exchange with a sales rep, who told me the product was on sale for 25% off. I had to leave, but knew I'd be back to check it all out more closely. Which I did. Next visit, new sales rep. I spent over two hours in the store arranging my order, largely due to my indecision and my desire to ensure I was getting the right thing for my needs. And knowing I was going to be putting down a whole lot of cash made me want to be doubly sure. My enthusiasm waned somewhat when I was told that the product line was not on sale (a fact that inspired my urgency to return to the store so quickly), but that the store discounted the line on average by 23%. Great, but I still felt like I had been misinformed, since I could have returned to the store at ANY time and still got the same price. Disingenuous, I thought. My first choice of pieces didn't work out because, as the sales rep discovered at the counter as she was ringing up my order, one piece she had offered did not exist. Not: was not available. No; did not exist. And this piece, one of three that I was buying, affected the final choice of preferred office suite. So, back to the drawing board. I modified my choices, which ended up costing me hundreds of dollars more, and arranged for delivery. Done. I had to breathe deeply while I handed over my credit card, but I was glad to have a beautiful set of quality furniture that would last me a lifetime. Was I wrong, then, to wonder why my desk was missing the back panel when it was all delivered? Oh, I was told, I didn't order that. No, I said, I am sure I ordered it. Why wouldn't I think that? It was never made clear to me that I HADN'T ordered it, that it was all part of the set. UGH. Text messages and phone calls ensue. Confusion and apologies -- and totally inadequate customer service, essentially pushing the blame and onus on me to right the situation, either by settling for what I've received or paying more money for something that I thought I had already bought. The store isn't making me feel good about my purchase and I'm feeling quite ready to return it all -- which would not be advantageous since their return policy (something else that was never made clear to me) would cost me more than buying the missing piece. End of story: I went into the store to resolve the situation, and ended up walking out $100 poorer to buy the piece to complete my desk. Most important part of the story: I will never shop there again and I would never encourage anyone else to shop there ever. This sounds like a rant. Of course it is, but there's a bigger purpose to this, something that I encouraged the IR staff (poor Harald, who had to endure my raised voice, and disempowered Pia, and short-sighted owner, Allen) to understand. For the extra $100, I got the office suite I wanted (unfortunately, with an UNwanted distaste of this experience), and what IR got (this is to you, Allen) is a disgruntled customer who, again, will never promote your store ever again -- and all because you feel you "can't give stuff away." No, I guess you can't, but you sure can buy a lot of bad press for $100. Done. read more

Most of the furniture inside is clean, metallic and basic. Depending on how you stage your room it can work for years or go out of fashion quick. The prices seem to be all over the place for what they are. I am into throw pillows and there are some pretty cool ones here to throw an accent here and there for an existing room (if you're not ready for the entire make-over). read more

My husband and I ordered a customer leather sectional and sleeper sofa from IR. The piece is beautiful - American Leather - but, please, order from another distributor. The delivery took nearly two hours to complete, not for lack of trying by the two moving personnel - they were great. However when I heard that after 90 minutes, our salesperson advised them "if it can't fit, leave it there" and made the same comment to my husband, we both agreed that we would not be shopping at IR again. It was beyond comprehension to hear that a $15K custom piece would be "left". I could understand a serious conversation about options to return to the warehouse at our expense, etc. but certainly not leaving it in the driveway for the local wildlife to set up camp. Furthermore, I am at a loss as to why the delivery personnel were not given product information to improve their ability to be successful. If a large piece of furniture is built so that some part of it can be either fully or partially detached, the delivery guys should be informed so that they are aware of the options they have. In the end, they got it in. I am extremely disappointed in the end result of this transaction. The sectional is beautiful; however we will not be shopping at IR again. read more

I bought dining chairs there and the lady told us they would be ready for pick up at either the store or the warehouse in a few days, that someone would call and we would work it out then. We opted out of an expensive delivery because we live very close and can just walk to pick them up. Everything's great. A few days pass so I call and another lady tells me she doesn't know why someone would tell me that, it's going to take about a week and to try calling the warehouse for a specific date; no apology. I call the "warehouse" (which is someone's cell phone?!) to ask if they know how long it will take and the person answering said they have no idea because they're not physically there, try calling the store. He tells me they're not always there on site. OK..... 2 WEEKS TOTAL since I bought the chairs go by, I get a phone call saying they're all at the warehouse and I have to pick them up from the warehouse. No option of picking them up at the store which was easier for us. OK whatever, but I have to borrow a friend's big car to pick up the chairs. She tells me to call ahead to let them know when I'll be there. Fair enough, still cheaper than the delivery. I have to wait until my day off work to pick them up so I call the warehouse to let them know and he said they close in an hour. He says they don't have regular set hours, they're not sure when they're going to be there next and to always call ahead to make sure they're physically there. How can people with busy schedules pick something up when they can't plan a time until a few hours before?? If I wait until my next day off there's a chance they won't be there?? Since I don't know when someone's going to be there when I'm free next I try to make it there in an hour but I still have to borrow a car; didn't happen. Very annoyed. I call the store quite frustrated to ask if the chairs can be brought to the store for me to pick up as it is incredibly frustrating dealing with such unstable hours. He said they don't do that because people don't always pick up when they say they will and the items clutter up the floor. He assures me they're at the warehouse on regular hours. I tell him what the guy at the warehouse told me TWICE, he assures me that they're there on regular hours and that they just need a heads up. I explain that there's a very big difference in the information I'm getting from not being physically there to just a heads up. I respectfully suggest talking to the warehouse guy regarding communication issues. He admits it was not the best wording and agrees to have the chairs at the store in A WEEK. It was not a wording issue, I was being told very different things this entire process! There's nothing to misinterpret about being told twice "We're not always here on site"! I get so frustrated I agree and hang up to what potentially could have been a start to an apology but at this point apologies are nothing, much too little too late. Why would the sales rep offer a pick up at the store in the first place if they don't do that anymore? I rather wait another week to pick up my chairs from the store than continue trying to figure out true warehouse hours. It's not like I'm talking about some $20 item, I spent over a grand at this store! I'm not an unreasonable person and this is the first bad online review I've ever written; this experience was so awful other potential customers need to know. If I hadn't agreed to the "no refunds" policy I would have demanded for my hard earned money back and taken my business elsewhere after that final phone call. It took 23 DAYS of an aggravating process to simply pick up my chairs I bought from the bloody store. read more

If you need outdoor furniture and we all do in Vancouver drop by, they also carry modern furnishings of all types. The service is very good, they will tell you 4 months for delivery, and it is 4 months not say 8 weeks so you make the purchase then take 4 months. read more

IR sells a line of sofa beds that are so comfortable you could sleep on them every night. Called "Comfort Sleepers", they are made in the USA by American Leather. They are not cheap, but if you want something that you really can use as both a comfortable sofa and a real bed that gives you a good night's sleep, then these are worth it. I bought one for our newly renovated flex room, to double as a place to watch tv and as extra accommodation when family comes to visit. We had one problem initially with the model we purchased - it had short legs, and although it looked as though there was a two inch gap underneath, in fact the folded up mattress rested on a dust cover directly on the floor. Unfortunately, the room is heated by underfloor radiant heat, which requires air to flow freely over the whole area so it can heat evenly when on and cool off when the heat is turned down. Having the insulation provided by three layers of mattress sections over the area covered by the sofa meant that the floor under the sofa could not cool off at night, and as it was heated anew every morning, the temperature under the mattress kept rising. There was nothing wrong with the sofa in itself... it was just the wrong design for use with radiant heating. This was a problem completely unanticipated by everyone. However, the American Leather representative in Seattle came to our home to check out exactly what was happening and to see what could be done to solve the problem. Ultimately the only solution was to exchange that particular model for one that had higher legs and a very slightly thinner mattress (still perfectly comfortable). IR asked me to come back to the store and choose a long-leg model, then they ordered one from the factory with the same upholstery fabric as the one I first purchased. When it arrived the delivery team made an expert exchange, wrapping up the original one and taking it out, then unwrapping and installing the new one. They phoned the night before to give me a window of time when they would arrive so I wouldn't have to wait all day. We are very happy with the new model - it has lots of space for air to circulate underneath, it's comfortable and it looks great. American Leather has a great product here, but I think they need to make it clear to potential purchasers and to the stores selling the comfort sleepers that anyone with radiant heating should be choosing one of the four long-legged models. The others are not compatible with this type of heating system. read more

That would not even be a one star if I didn't think someone might think I liked it if I left it blank. We bought 4 white vinyl dining room chairs at IR in March for $200 each. We had a guest for dinner a couple of weeks later whose clothing left a blue stain pattern on the chair. We figure it must have been his sweater. He also sat on our white leather couch and there was not a mark there.We tried various different methods to clean it, including ones suggested by the staff at IR. Nothing has worked. At no time was it suggested to us this could be an issue. We would not have bought them. The customer service representative basically said not their fault, not the fault of the manufacturer but our's cause clothing bleeds ( didn't I see that notice on all new jeans?!). Are we supposed to ask our guests to take off their clothes when they arrive? Very disappointed with both the product and the response. read more

In the stroll through the South Granville home decor stores, Industrial Revolution is worth the stop. It tends to be a bit pricey, but this store carries a substantial selection of what seems like well-made furniture (sofas, tables and chairs, desks), along with any number of playful accessories. Like so many other stores on South Granville, I can't think of anything in particular to rave about Industrial Revolution, but I can say that you just might find a thing or two in the accessory department that is more interesting than usual, this may well be this store's strength. read more

We saw a small console table in the store. It was on sale and the last one. We went home, measured and found that it was going to be a great fit. I called Industrial Revolution and the service was fantastic - I described the console to Ivonne and she knew which one it was immediately. After trudging into all the high-end furniture stores on Granville Road a few weeks ago and being overwhelmed by cheaply made and overpriced furniture, I was about to give up when I spied a sign outside of Industrial Revolution advertising that their furniture was 'Made in Canada'. After a quick tour of the store, it became quite apparent that the staff and service was top-notch and their products were first-class. I'm absolutely thrilled with the sofa and matching ottoman that I purchased and the people who delivered the items were by far the most professional and nicest group of guys I have met!
