This is perhaps the most jumbled and frenzied of all the Kitchen Corners I've visited (those being the other location on 4th, and two on Commercial). It also has the biggest kitsch factor. Most recently I found my favorite discovery yet: Styrofoam heads. But I've also bought a tray, plant soil, fabric dye, a random vase and a cutting board here. The glue in the latter unstuck after a year, yet the damage is mendable. The staff is always helpful and candle selection here is fragrant and varied. In addition to the street level madness (and the sidewalk boxes), there is also a basement level filled with plant pots and soil. Kitchen Corner was the only spot I could find soil in February in order to re-pot one of my ailing houseplants. The prices aren't really bargains, but the selection is quirky and gives that garage-sale feel without that coating of yard-sale crud. read more

I'm giving this place a solid 4 stars because of things I've only discovered recently. I've been going here for a long time, and for over a decade I had called this place the "cram-packed store". It was kind of clausterphobic, if not a fire hazard. That is not to say that it wasn't useful,.. just kind for stressful for people like me. On a recent visit I discovered that it was much more spacious, I'm not sure what they did, but it worked. The extra space allowed me to more easily navigate and find thing, or maybe those things were not there before. That change, whatever it was, has made Kitchen Corner rise up above your average dollar store IMO (but not quite to the curated Welk's level on Main which has some dollar store qualities also). It is difficult to put a finger on, but KC always was a bit different that a dollar store,.. this is the best way fro me to describe it: -25% dollar store -25% Welks (better quality, but more useful stuff) -25% Dunlevy Food equipment (look it up!) -25% the cheaper products in Ming Wo Way more bottles and containers plus usable kitchen stuff than a dollar store so stop here first when you need a spatula cheap etc. read more

What a tiny storefront that hides a treasure trove of goodies. Walked in on a whim and so glad I did! I could (and probably have) spend hours looking through interesting things at The Kitchen Corner. There's the typical dollar store inventory, plus lots of storage stuff, arts & crafts, kitchen gadgets, and more on the first floor. What you may not know (and what you should definitely do) is that there's a huge basement full of awesome stuff: actual treasure chests, full coat racks, bamboo everything, masons jars in bulk, gardening stuff... People who work here are super friendly to all the visitors. They are also excited and knowledgeable about the product that's carried. Only issue is that the first floor is kinda crowded cause there's so much stuff. You'll have to walk around/over things. Might just be while inventory is being updated. We'll see! read more

You would never know that there are so many items inside this Kitchen Corner store from the outside - there were a few meager boxes outside filled with rando tupperware, kitchen mats etc on a mild January afternoon, and I was in the area having lunch. I stopped by to check out the availability and prices of a couple items for personal and business use: - aluminum scoops - pasta machine - pizza stone - silicone and cast iron ware They had everything on my list, but little more pricey than I'd expected. I do, however like their location (close to work) and I like that they're a local business with multiple locations (commercial drive, other 4th ave location). It was kind of like a local, hands on Amazon (given the recent CP strikes, hands on is good!). Or, a cross between Welks and a gritty Daiso. They also have a great selection of bakeware, kitchen timers, utensils, canning and kombucha brewing supplies, rolling pins, and rugs and everything you need for your kitchen, washroom, and home. The sheer magnitude and variety of items is overwhelming, but, now that you can mentally prepare for it, make a list of whatever you might need for your home and kitchen, and head on down. They'll have everything you're looking for. read more

There is way too much stuff crammed into this store!! When I go In I feel clautrophobic, but still, you will most likely find what you are looking for, especially if you want wicker basktes, they have the whole bottom from dedicated to wiker by-products. hehe! You can get some similar items at the Dollarama downtown for less, but they definately have some interesting things to look at. Holy claustrophobic alert!! This place has more things that 19 pack-rat grandparents houses mashed up together. There is NO organization to this store - and most of the items are piled high on-top of each other - and have been there for years. Dust all over every single item there. It's even hard to carry a hand basket down the aisles because it's so cramp. My suggestion for you, try dollarama instead. if you MUST go in this store, immediately ask the customer service reps what you need and hopefully they'll help out - because there's no way you'll find it on your own! read more

Who loves Kitchen Corner-- put up your hands ! Me, me, me! I found this place before I moved up to Van. I was looking for a gift "bistro set" for my "sister-aunt" :-) for putting us up -(or putting up with us, te-hee.) on one of our reconnaissance visits. We found the perfect little deck set at such a reasonable price. The store is stocked up with household needs. It's not glamorous by any stretch, so be ready to get some dust on ya, but I think the savings are worth it. read more

I appreciate that the store recycles packaging. You don't have to take all that plastic home. That impresses me. There are also some amazing finds in that store, at very low prices. These are the reasons I give the store 3 stars. However, I am cautious about buying anything in the store that is made of material other than glass, metal or plastic. I bought a seagrass mat and only after getting it home realized that it smelled terrible. Nothing I have done has helped get rid of the smell--have washed it, left it in the sun, everything. I took it back to the store and they said nothing to do with them, has to do with the factory in China. So, tough luck, no refunds. The store, as other reviewers have mentioned, has a scary amount of products in it collecting dust for years. It's almost like what the store of a hoarder would look like--not hoarding because it's a public access business, but awfully close. read more

This place is OK depending on what you need to get. I bought some candles and red napkins and things for valentines day decorations, and there was lots of selection and it was all really inexpensive. But, the more substantial things like dishware sets and bath mats and floor rugs are all quite expensive... $18 for a bath rug that's been gathering dust in that store for like 10 years? No thanks. I would defs suggest winners or homesense over this place for those kinda purchases. Can find better quality stuff for cheaper there. read more

Solid 3.5 stars, literally a dollar store but better quality and selection. Well, much better, as you see the pic of silicone muffin trays for $15! Quite big and aisles cramped with goodies. Came here to get some office knick knacks but biggest coup were the plastic coil in the green I wanted for dad too. Plus a quick plastic release instead of a metal ring. Tons of stuff here, home decor like candles, frames, the whole nine yards. Open daily. Credit cards ok. read more

I think this is the only time I have ever sworn off going back to a store ever! As a lover of dollar stores, random assortments and the thrill of the hunt in general, that's saying a lot; Kitchen Corner is about as random and free-for-all as you can get, they carry just about everything! The prices, however, I have found are actually not that great, especially considering the state of most of their stock- dirty, open packaging and unclear prices. Most of the time you are better off at a true dollar store, or proper kitchen or gift store further up W. Fourth Ave. My real gripe is about the service. Last time I was there, the owner was extremely rude and unhelpful when I was trying to get help finding an item, and since they don't have any kind of efficient cash register system, the poor girl working the cash desk was struggling with a long line of disgruntled customers having to wait while she manually wrote down every single item being bought! This is such a poor excuse for an inventory system, and to make things worse, the owner proceeded to talk down to the cashier and berate her in front of all us waiting in line. It was the worse retail experience I've ever encountered, and completely unprofessional. As I said, even in a pinch, I unfortunately will not be going back to this store ever again. read more

This store is super quirky and jam packed and never disappoints. Yes, some things are over priced and they have a monopoly on the area and market-no other real housewares or dollar stores nearby, but if you are careful, patient and willing to spend a bit of time, you will find a lot of worth while stuff! Editing is the key! Use a discerning eye! And have a plan. Their passion for recycling and reducing waste and environmental impact is admirable and even if just for this reason, this place is a true neighborhood gem! read more

I live in Kits so I've been to both store locations a number of times for stuff like spatulas. I know some items are slightly more than the standard Dollar stores, but the assortment is so vast you've got a pretty good chance to finding close to whatever item you're looking for. Recently I had an idea I wanted to make up mini bottles of spray "wine away" (red wine remover) as gifts. I went into about half a dozen dollar stores but they all carried the same stock - those pre-packaged trios of cheap plastic bottles and only one was the kind I wanted. I went to Winners, WalMart.. nada. I even tried Ming Wo's and several other kitchen places and yes they had high-end spayers - for about $18. I even tried a couple of specialty travel stores. Finally I went to Kitchen Korner and of course had no idea where to look for something so specific. Was it kitchen, bathroom, travel? I asked the girl and she asked me "do you want a sprayer or mister". I said a mister and she led me to EXACTLY what I had in mind. An assortment of aluminum misters, very nice quality, in a variety of sizes. I bought a number of them, printed up labels and they look adorable. They were not rock bottom cheap but very reasonable considering the quality. I'm going back to buy a few more. It made my Christmas! read more

This place is way overpriced and has the worst service. Unfriendly. The place is a mess and everyone is unhelpful. I just called to ask whether they had something. The woman responded "No". I then asked if she could point me in the right direction and she said "I only work at this store". Very rude. read more

Amazing store! This place has everything from interesting art, to bleach. Most things are well priced, however look out for the lower quality items. The selection is fantastic and the place is huge; it has just about anything you could need. Stumbled in here on a whim, left with a lot of stuff. This store does not provide refunds and does not make this fact clear. The stamp advising the customers of this is stamped over other writing - instead of in a blank area - to make the stamp illegible. They point out their sign on a wall- which is buried among dozens of other signs. I do no support businesses that have no interest in repeat customers. I bought a rug one day - made the trek over the next day to return it as the colour was wrong and was not provided a refund only a store credit even though I advised them that I do not live in the area. This is very shoddy. I will have to go back only to use up the credit - otherwise never again. I also intend to report this to the BBB read more

Kitchen Corner has changed hands The new owner Rebecca is very strict and the store has lots of old stuff. slow but friendly service . They even claim to recycle packaging . What a great green store. Where to begin. The outside of the store appeals to hoarders or individuals who simply love disorganized clutter. Once inside I was overwhelmed by the quantity of items but noticed QUALITY was not there. Fantastic place for dumpster divers .... Buy anything here and expect it to have a very short life span, you get what you pay for. Like comparing a ford to a rolls Royce. You are better off walking down Vancouver lanes and finding stuff there. read more

There are a few locations of this store around town, and each one that I've been in consists of a rambling store that seems to go on and on and contains an endless selection of, well, just about anything you could imagine needing in your home. The Kitchen Corner is a great place to come for all the staples: baskets, doormats, salad spinners, kitchen appliances, dishes, pots for your plants, mops, brooms...you get the picture. They really do have everything. You might have to ask where to find what you are looking for, but chances are it is there somewhere in the bowels or high on a shelf of this place. The prices tend to be good, and you will probably find things that you didn't even know you needed: decorative candles? Tatami mats? They've got those too. read more

Terrible experience. Went in to find a cookie press. Was in the store for about 5min. It was quite busy due to Xmas season. An older woman with brown hair and glasses came up to me, and in front of everyone told me in no uncertain terms to "put my soaking wet umbrella into their stand at the front, or else people are going to slip". She gave a stern, unapproved glare over her spectacles very reminiscent of a cranky geriatric schnauzer. I was made to feel and appear like a naughty two year old. Don't bother with this overcrowded unclassy hippy junk heap. Bed ,Bath and Beyond has everything they have and more. Plus, they understand the importance of RESPECT. read more

The wicker baskets in this store are infested by bugs. Not sure exactly which type, but possibly the Bostrichid Powderpost Beetle. I kept finding little piles of sawdust under my wicker basket where the beetles are exiting after their larvae stage. The store admits they have an infestation issue, but refused to refund my purchase. Canada Agriculture, CFIA and city inspectors are being notified. read more

I love this store - it DOES have an insane number of products inside, but if you can handle that, then you'll love this place. Rebecca does an EXCEPTIONAL job of recycling everything from your packaging that she can before you even leave the store - and replaces your plastic packaging with paper packaging so you can easily recycle it at home. I really, really appreciate that and feel like everyone should know about it. Some of the best things to shop for at the Kitchen Corner include (in my opinion): pots for plants (they have a TON in the basement), photo frames, coffee mugs, candles, kitchen utensils. read more

I purchased a really nice stove top expresso machine yesterday. Paid $35 thought was a bit much ,but it had a nice silver look. Used it once and put it in the dishwasher. I read the box and nowhere on it did it say not dishwasher safe. The silver plating came off leaving it tarnished and grey. I took it back to the store. There is a sign clearly saying no refunds. I'm reasonable and think maybeI can return it and pay the difference for the next grade up. The girl that is always there and I believe owns or manages the store is there. She is very rude and loud. Would not listen and just talked over me. Her logic was they "are not responsible for the wording on the box". Absolutely awful customer service experience. I ended up just leaving the expresso maker in the store and resolving to never go back there. read more

I'm surprised the fire marshall doesn't close these stores down. As others have said, there is an insane amount of merchandise, the owner is indeed rude and clearly has some issues that drives him to constantly add merchandise when he's already stuffing 5 times what should be in the store. I always feel very sorry for the employees who are working in such dysfunctional conditions. Between the oppressive atmosphere and high prices I no longer go there. read more

They. Recycle. Everything. For you. Aside from that being very awesome, this place is hands down the best go-to-when-you-need-anything shop. Yes it's packed, but it's well organized. I have bought everything from patio furniture to iron-on mending patches from here. I've bought garden seeds, huge heavy planters, a glass juice pitcher, wrapping paper, dinner plate set, beach mats, book light, candles, shower curtain, magnifying glass, storage baskets, a mop, curtains. If you need something random and can't seem to find it anywhere, it's at The Kitchen Corner. I would like to point out that a high-end furniture store down the street on West 4th Ave sells the EXACT same brand of patio furniture (Gardenia) that The Kitchen Corner carries, except the place down the street sells it for over twice as much. The owner doesn't mark things up like crazy, she is so friendly. All the staff are super helpful. read more
