We booked a trip to Paris & London with Indy Travel Leaders along with travel insurance. We asked to purchased unlimited travel insurance and were told that we could cancel for any reason with a FULL REFUND. About 40 days before departure we needed to cancel our trip, at first we were told that we could only get a travel credit for a later date. After not accepting and asking questions about the travel insurance purchased we were told that after pulling strings with Pleasant Holidays (lie) we will be given a refund with a travel credit of $473 pp with Pleasant Holidays. This was NEVER discussed or disclosed to us when we purchased our trip. After speaking with a representative with Pleasant Holidays myself I was told that there was no pulling strings and that this was apart of their normal policy with the insurance choice that was made by Indy travel. She also agreed and stated the Indy Travel Leaders mishandled our booking and that we should file a complaint. I do not recommend using them at all because they do not disclose, explain or discuss everything beforehand and truly do not care once they have your money. read more

We just returned from an 11 day trip to Costa Rica organized down to the smallest detail by Courtnay Crockett. We had not traveled for several years due to Covid, illness, and my ambulation issues. Courtnay arranged everything to accomodate for my ambulation issues and our age. It was one of our top three trips that we have taken over 56 years. We spent 5 days in the mountains of Costa Rica in the rain forest and 6 days at Secrets Papagalyo on the Pacific side. She arranged many private tours with guides that allowed us to travel at our own pace. She also set the accomodations for my ambulation issues. Amanda was extremely helpful in helping us plan and book everything we needed from flights, to transfers to and from airport, hotel, and ship. She took all the guess work out for us. My husband and I used Travel Leaders Indy to help plan our honeymoon to Jamaica. We both had valid passports from previous travels. We did most of the initial research on the resort ourselves. We chose to use a travel agency, so that we didn't run into any unexpected issues. Unfortunately, that was not the case as Amanda failed to communicate the passport requirements of travel to Jamaica in a timely manner, specifically the fact that the passports had to remain valid for six months after returning home. My husband's passport was set to expire three months after our trip. Amanda did not inform us of this requirement when we inquired about travel to Jamaica in January, when we put down our deposit in June, or when our vacation was paid in full in October. In fact, she did not inform us of this requirement until 10 days before our departure. Her actions forced us to travel to Chicago in order to visit a passport agency for a same day renewal. We incurred several hundred dollars of expenses during and as a result of the trip that would have been avoidable expenses. Alex, the owner, emailed us inquiring about our experience. We shared our concerns and never heard back from him. We cannot in good faith recommend Travel Leaders Indy. Edit In Response to Alex's reply: We knew our passport expiration dates; the dates are printed right on the passports. The issue was that no one told us that the passport had to remain valid six months after we returned. We read it on the travel details sent to us 10 days before our departure. Our trip was in November 2017 and his passport was valid until January 2018. How were we to know we needed to renew it? I believe it is highly unprofessional to blame the customer. We went through a travel agent, so that we wouldn't be blind sided by something like this. Alex has never reached out to us and has yet to reply to our email sent over 7 months ago. read more

I oversee the travel committee for a non-for-profit aquatic organization. We have started running research trips to Cuba to help their local shops prepare for the expected spike in tourism and to help them protect learn and adopt practices designed to protect their natural resources and ecology. For our next trip, I want to utilize a charter bus to transport our group around. We have rented vans in the past. While in Cuba, I was told that the bus MUST be chartered through a travel agent. I google and find Alex with Travel Leaders as a Cuba travel agent. After reaching out, his initial response is that he only will work if he books the whole thing (read - not enough commission). After I respond explaining our charitable nature and that arrangements during the project have been worked out with the local organizations, I offer that I will use he service again as we expect to be running this program throughout different parts of Cuba over the next few years. He offers to 'look into' the request for $250 - no guarantees to find anything, no guarantees on pricing. Nice guy - wish I could get $250 for doing some googling... Since I answer to a Board, I declined and will continue to look around with our car rental backup contingency in place. I initially gave two stars because he was quick with his responses. Obviously, substantively, he offers little value unless you are looking for a high priced trip to Cuba - a place that he clearly is not particularly familiar with, probably has never been to. Just my two cents. ** Update - I finally found another Cuban travel services that was able to get me the information that I wanted for our buses. No charges, no guarantees that we will even book with them - but we will. In fact, I will be expanding our order to include a hotel night in Havana and a bus trip for an individual that is arriving late. And they have earned our future business. This year, that was two Cuban trips with minor needs. Next year...the year after...I hope I am writing them some big checks. It will mean that we are both enjoying success. I'm rapidly approaching 50 and was around before the internet when travel agents were a must. Then and now, I have never encountered a travel agent that refused an assignment as too small or demanded money upfront and openly stated that results were not guaranteed. Even as a NFP, our organization must generate revenue to stay in business. And my successful day job is quite profitable. I suppose I would have expected a level of service that is disappearing in this country. I think you earn business - I think many believe they have a God given right to it. Best of luck to Alex and his crew, after reading the other reviews here, I am not surprised that they don't have stronger business. They refuse to put in the hard work and simply expect to be compensated handsomely for their existence. Based on his response and my subsequent success, I reduced my rating to a single star. My wife and I were very overdue for a vacation away from kids. Was planning on travelling in June. Said I wanted a beach, that was a huge mistake though. In retrospect I would have rather said anything else if it would have avoided them sending us where they did. They should have sent us to the panhandle or North Carolina or pretty much anywhere than where they sent us. They sent us to Miami, the hotel was under constant construction, load boisterous music all the time, and the sargassum made everything stinky and the ocean unswimmable. The hotel was like a run down swinging crossfitters fever dream. Being near the water and not being able to swim in it in this heat is the definition of torture Miami in June is a terrible terrible recommendation for a couple trying to escape from their kids or anyone. Having been to Florida once and gotten unseasonably cold weather I thought it would be a safer bet but I was wrong. These people have no idea what they are doing. They are just sending people to hotels that can't hack it and are on their way out for a commission. Never again! read more

The airline times she picked were great, and she also arranged all shuttles. The pricing was competitive to other quotes we got online. Overall great service. read more

I was very disappointed with the services provided by Travel Leaders Indy. I worked with Courtenay in planning a trip to Europe this summer with my husband and another couple. I gave her our budget and details about where we wanted to go, what we wanted to do, etc. I also indicated that each couple wanted separate hotel rooms. She was very quick to get us an itinerary and planned everything through Avanti. We wanted to make just a few changes and she then told us that the quote she gave us was only for one hotel room. When she made this change it put us well above our budget. She also didn't seem to listen to any of the other changes we wanted to make. I have been to Europe before and inquired about specific hotels that I know are budget friendly and also nice and she indicated that Avanti didn't have those hotels. When I told her that her itinerary put us well over our budget and inquired whether we had to use Avanti she just never responded. I ended up booking through STA and they listened to exactly what we wanted and we were well under our budget. I was very disappointed in the skill, lack of communication and lack of professionalism with this company. read more
