After my longtime dentist moved away, I was unhappy with the quality of some of the dental work I received. Some fillings felt rough and made flossing difficult. I also had a cavity that was not treated, and it later became painful enough that I needed antibiotics. My current dentist told me she did not know why it hadn't been filled sooner and that treating it earlier likely would have been easier on the tooth. I also felt pressured into having a tooth extracted without fully understanding all of my options at the time. Looking back, I wish I had sought a second opinion. When I brought my concerns to the clinic, I felt they were quickly defended rather than fully listened to. That was especially disappointing after being a loyal patient for so many years. The office itself was clean, and the staff were generally courteous. However, trust is very important to me when it comes to dental care, and unfortunately I no longer feel confident continuing treatment there. For that reason, my family and I have decided to seek care elsewhere.

Dr. Mueller dropped in on a recent Hygiene appointment with Vivian who continues to provide me with up to date education on oral care. Dr. Mueller recommended repair of a number of teeth on my lower jaw that had become eroded and cracked over a period of decades. I booked an appointment and was pleasantly surprised that the repair was completed in less that an hour without local anesthetic. Basically a bit of tooth preparation proceeded application of an epoxy that dried in a matter of minutes. Following testing to ensure proper bite and polishing the procedure was done. I regret that I had not done this procedure years prior as I no longer feel the rough edges of the teeth that had eroded. Dr. Mueller had a chuckle when I confused him(he was wearing a mask and cap) with his son. I was also very impressed with Dr. Muellers' text to me the next day to check if any problems had occurred as a result of the procedure. Thanks to the Dental Center I continue to enjoy the benefits of a high level of oral health.

Albert Dental and asked that any appointment that need to be booked please call me and tell me for who, when and the amount. That seems like a simple request honestly, but in 1.5 year going there this was NEVER done, but oddly I could be contacted afterwards to pay. I called and emailed numerous times please please talk to me first (not everything dental is necessary to do right then, some things can wait for extra health spending account to restart, etc), but I had never been contacted about it. Literally 4 or more people at the front desk so short staffed isn't an issue. Fast forward to April and May this year and not shockingly more unauthorized services were made. I asked them who made them and why I wasn't contacted and I was told they aren't sure but it could have been my daughter (who is a minor, but again it shouldn't matter because it is their duty to contact me beforehand for appointments). Super super disorganized and lacking basic communication skills. Now I have opened a complaint for unauthorized charges to my blue cross due to them. This is the first time I have ever seen a dental office that does whatever they want and thinks they never have to speak to the person beforehand. Avoid this disorganized place who can only communicate when they want a bill paid and lets minors authorize dental work. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE: On August 16, 2024 I received a notice from collections, I sent them the note below as well as 5 screenshots of me asking to PLEASE PLEASE call or email me beforehand with WHAT WORK IS REQUIRED, and PRICE. Something that was never done despite me calling again and again requesting it. (note they blamed other people despite me asking them to contact me directly) UPDATE 2: A few days later I was called (what a novel idea) and Nikki left me a voicemail stating they have accepted some responsibility, but wanted me to accept some too (oddly I am the one that called after every appointment requesting they contact me beforehand with all the information and I was told "next time"). Nikki stated she wanted me to cover some of the bill because the collections agency requires 30-40% of the bill (apparently it is my job to pay collections agency they sent for me as well). Nikki then brought up how I unsubscribed from their texts (yes, their automated texts which don't give me any information as to the cost and what is being done. If these texts are sufficient in their eyes for what I requested, they should all be laid off and their jobs can be replaced by AI and the savings can be passed along to customers by charging lower than the ADA guidelines and not higher like this Dental office does). She also requested that I remove my "very detailed 1 star review from Google" (That's called censorship and it isn't happening. This is just blackmail because they don't want their horrible communication skills shown). She also mentioned that she has a contract I signed stating that if insurance doesn't pay for it, then I have to (yes, this is the same as any contract. If a business completes an agreed upon service, then it is their job to pay for it. This is not authorization for a business to continue to do an infinite amount of work and not bother to contact the person before the work is completed. A dental office is no different.) VOICEMAIL cannot be attached here Update 3: I told the collections agency I will not be paying as it is unauthorized but obviously only caring about the business paying them, they sent it to my credit bureau. But I will be filing a complaint to Equifax/TransUnion. I won't be removing this review because people need to know the horrible practices of this company (I am saving you thousands of $). This is not the first time Dr Baines has left the office when I had an appointment. Last time was her sons graduation. I'm guessing she knew well in advance her son was graduating and could have rescheduled my appointment. My time is valuable, and it's disheartening to see a Dental office that doesn't respect that. I won't be returning and cannot recommend this practice to anyone who values good service.

I moved to Edmonton about 6 months ago, and decided it was about time I found a dentist here…read more.. First of all, they didn't tell me until after my appt that they don't do direct billing. The fact that I had just gotten paid was the only reason I could afford to pay them, since you know, I'm a student aka poor! Though the receptionist told me my insurance cheque would take no longer than a week (its been 9 days now...) The first appt was ok, Dr. Sekhon seemed very knowledgeable and actually went through all my xrays with me. Turns out I apparently need a crown (EEK!-$$$) after I have my wisdom teeth removed. (OUCH+$$$). My second appt was just a cleaning, the hygienist seemed very knowledgeable as well, and thorough. She was also very nice. The service was good for the most part, however I have literally been sick to my stomach, not knowing whether or not I'll be able to pay my rent on time because of 2 dentist appts. Unfortunately for this reason I will be switching dentists, there is no way I can afford to be paying $450 up front for each appt, and then $1800 for a crown. I really don't understand why all places can't do direct billing.

This appointment was first changed due to them accidentally booking me on the Friday before Thanksgiving which I was flexible to change to. They rebooked me for a 11am appointment a few weeks later. Then a few days before my appointment, they texted me to change my appointment to 8am due to staff shortages because of COVID. I agreed to the change even though the notification was very short notice. Once I came for my appointment, things were normal except near the end of my appointment. A lady did my dental cleaning but I didn't catch her name. At the end, she was flossing my teeth with very strong force. I have an underwire from have braces on my bottom teeth. She flossed so hard that she yanked loose part of my wire. She didn't even take responsibility for her mistake and tried to say something along the lines of "oh, it must have been ready to fall off at anytime now". What she doesn't know is that I had my underwire retouched just a few months ago which means there was no way they were readily loose. She brushed it off like nothing has happened and was about to end my appointment. It wasn't until I mentioned the wire again that she said she couldn't fix it and I need to rebook a new appointment to see a dentist. This is unacceptable since it was her fault for causing my wire to be loose and I had to book another appointment which I have to pay for something she caused. During my appointment, I even told her it was a long commute for me to come here since I don't work downtown anymore due to COVID. She didn't even take this into consideration when she told me to book another appointment. I ended up not booking an appointment due to that reason and also because I didn't want to deal with last minute appointment changes again as described above.

I had two sinus osseous-autografts done by Gateway Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery on June 28, 2017,…read morefollowed by three implants done on Oct 24, 2017. Gateway Oral installed a 6 mm. implant on tooth 16 and installed two 8 mm. implants on teeth 24 & 26. Since then I have had two of those implants come loose and had to be removed. Gateway Oral installed one implant after the two coming loose, and it as well came loose. On Dec. 10, 2018 Dr. Mather installed another implant on tooth 16. On June 20, 2020 tooth #24 was looked at by Dr. Mather and it was loose. So far I have had three implants come loose out of the four Gateway Oral have done. Dr. Mather had told me how much the fifth implant was going to be when he pulled out the fourth implant. One week later his office sent me a notice via email of how much it would be to install a fifth implant. I did not need to be told twice in a week how much they wanted to get from me if I was to get another implant from their company. I think this was very uncaring. . I paid a professional periodontist on Aug. 26/2020 to take a scan of all my teeth to try find out what could have caused the implants to fail as no one wants to take responsibility for the failure of the implants. The periodontist wondered why Gateway Oral had not used longer implants as there was enough space for longer implants as I had, had the sinus osseous-autografts done. My dentist, had recommended Dr. Mather for the implants. I would have thought that the two doctors would have worked together to make sure my implants were successful. I talked to Dr. Mather after the three implants coming loose. He stated that he only installs 6 mm. and 8 mm.implants. I told him I have had eight implants installed, and his three were the only ones to come loose. I know my dentist used the articulating paper on all my teeth after installing the new crowns on all four implant s. Dr. Mather stated that it was my dentist's fault, stating something about the crowns not being down far enough. Since than I have had my dentist install a 10 mm. implant on tooth 16 and a 12 mm. implant on tooth 24. I have not had any problems with either implant since being installed. When they were installing the last implant again on tooth #24, the x-ray they took showed there had been a drill bit from a root canal that had broken off from doing a root canal. It had been in there for at least 10-15 years. I am surprised that Dr.Mather had not seen this on his x-ray or figured it did not matter enough to remove it before installing the implant. I think the quality of work that Dr. Mather does is rushed as he did all three implants in about two hours. My dentist installed a 10 mm. implant where Dr. Mather installed a 6 mm., and a 12 mm. implant where Dr. Mather installed an 8 mm. My question is why did he need to do two sinus osseous-autografts if he was not going to use longer implants. I have had to deal with the pain of having my implants coming loose, being removed and getting new implants installed over the course of the last four years. I have had to go to dentist offices more than my fair share during covid. A person should not have to deal with this kind of pain, suffering, and mental anguish for over four years. After my meeting with Doctor Mather I found him very arrogant and he seemed to believe that he can do no wrong. I would not recommend Gateway Oral for any implants.

She gave me good directions on where their parkade and visitor parking was. I found their office to be clean and modern with comfortable seating. They had me fill out a patient history form on an iPad which I thought was very techy and also environmental friendly. The dental hygienist that worked with me that day was very professional and friendly. She took numerous x-rays and photos of my teeth. She made me feel at ease and explained everything that she was doing. She was very gentle and answered all my questions which I appreciated! After examination by Dr. Buchowsky, I found out I needed to be referred to a periodontist. The referral appointment was set up at my 2nd appointment by the receptionist. I asked her if my dental plan would cover the referral and she said she didn't know. She told me that I had to find out on my own. With my previous dentist's office, they had always made sure I knew what was covered and what wasn't based on my group policy. It was not busy at the front desk (2 receptionist staff) so I had asked the receptionist to call the periodontist's office to find out from them what would be covered and she did not look the least bit pleased but did it anyways. It turned out that the visit would not be covered under my plan. Knowing this information ahead of time would be helpful so I could at least know what I would be in for. I think many dental offices can money grab from their clients with all the different codes they put in for claims (as per CBC documentary/expose that I saw a few years ago). I think being informed with costs and what services would be provided are all great questions to ask. I felt that the reception staff did not go above and beyond to meet those needs and for the amount of money I spent, I am somewhat a little disappointed hence the 3 stars. I liked my new dentist and her hygienists very much and I hope I will be able to change this review.
