This was an impressive experience! This was all our first time doing anything like this. When we got there, we didn't know what to expect. Lily, who checked us in, was also our game guide, and she was awesome! The psych ward was trying to solve clues and puzzles to get locks unlocked. It was a blast just trying to figure out what to do with my family! Lily did have to assist us throughout our hour, but the fact she was watching us made it more fun. It was not awkward at all! The kids (13 yr olds) had a blast and it was difficult enough to be engaging without being too hard for the kids. They were already talking about doing another room on our way home in the car. We decided to the I Want Him Dead: A Mafia Story which is a continuation of A Mob Boss which we did before. The escape room was so much fun and loved how it was a multi room. We had a fantastic time playing! Even days later, I'm still enjoying the dopamine from our narrow escape from the "What Happened At Hawthorne?" (finished with 1 min 35 left). The room was immersive and spooky, and the puzzles made sense. Each puzzle lead to the next with appropriate hints that we used a couple of times when we (literally) hit a brick wall. lol. The room is challenging, but the puzzles all make sense when you follow the directions scattered throughout the rooms. Our game master was friendly and made sure we were comfortable before our game. Our group of 6 did the psych ward challenge and had the best time. Twists and turns in the escape room that definitely challenged our imagination to try and beat the one hour timer. First off the location is in such an awful spot I almost got a flat tire trying to find parking, I walked in and immediately got a whiff of an unpleasant smell that was off putting, it didn't sit right with me off the bat. Then I was helped by who I believe is the owner (he looked a little too young though tbh) and he was "alright" not my cup of tea but what the hey! the room itself was interactive and fun hence the one star. when I was done with the escape room, I was greeted with a short man with a receding hairline (who i still assume is the owner, could be wrong don't @ me) seemed a little unprofessional to me but again what the hey part 2! Wow! This place is spectacular! It was awesome being able to book our escape room online, pay, and sign our waivers ahead of time. Great layout with many options to choose from. The story setup was fun. We did the mafia story escape and all the clues and puzzles were extremely fun to navigate, with great props and decor. The way they offer their hints was also helpful. We did escape! Overall had a blast navigating this escape room and will be back once it cools down. One side note was it was pretty humid and hot, they were doing their best to cool the place down but it is worth mentioning for the very hot summer months pick a time closer to sundown as it'll be less hot. read more

I forgot what room we did at the house but for the new location, we did What Happened at Hawthorne? and Vegas Hangover!! We escaped both of them! Obviously can't spoil anything but the puzzles were Very good and I love the multi-room aspect of an escape room. Like you think you're close to figuring it out but you unlock another area. Amazing. Vegas Hangover was very fun and we enjoyed the music that played the entire time as if we were in vegas. First " WHAT HAPPENED AT HAWTHORNE" which is their hardest escape room and toughest to pass! Our group got very close to finishing it!! It truly was an heart racing experience !! One group participated in the "I Want Him Dead: A Mafia Story" and the other six participated in "Who-Dun-It" From the moment I stepped into the dimly lit lobby of Ingenious Escapes, I was greeted by an atmosphere charged with anticipation. The staff member, Matthew, was friendly and eager to set the stage for our adventures, explaining the rules and backstory for my group - "I Want Him Dead: A Mafia Story" My group was fortunate enough to break into Al Capone's speakeasy, plant a bomb and escape to safety without injury. Your puzzles were unique and we laughed as we rushed to get the clues solved and on to the next task. The attention to detail was impressive, with intricate decorations and props creating an immersive environment that immediately drew me in. The room was spacious enough to accommodate our group comfortably while still maintaining a sense of confinement that added to the tension and excitement. Group Two participated in "Who-Dun It" . The players expressed that this detective mystery was ingeniously crafted, seamlessly integrated into the narrative of the room. Each clue and riddle felt like a piece of a larger puzzle, requiring collaboration and critical thinking to solve. From unlocking hidden compartments to deciphering clues, every challenge was thoughtfully designed to keep all involved both engaged and on their toes. Yes, it's in a house! Initially kind of awkward. I was worried the rooms would be small/not enough room for all of us just knowing how small bedrooms can be. Park in the street, obvi! You'll walk straight in and the host will check you in and go over the rules after you sign a waiver. We did a pirate-themed room. No spoilers here! It was excellent! The quality of the puzzles was great. We were challenged and had so much fun. As predicted, the space to move around with 7 adults was quite small and got warm really fast. But that wasn't a "make or break" situation for me. We did bump into each other a lot rushing around, but I think you'd do that in any escape room trying to beat the time. 10/10 will return for more mental stimulation. They had an off day and had to fix a few puzzles in our room during our game. The final door opened before we started the game due to a lock acting up. The staff was friendly. By the third time I was kinda over it. The room looked nice but one puzzle I had to press the sensor back up so it could sense the magnet. Kind of a bummer for the money we spent. Update: The owner has reached out to me and offered to make this right. We are looking forward to giving it another shot. For now 100% 5 star customer service. Warning!! This escape room is in someone's house. I mean it added a layer of, "Are we really gonna make it out?" We chose the diamond heist room, it was a cool setup and the puzzles were fun. We really enjoyed it! We had a party of two and successfully escaped the psych hospital. It was very immersive and had lots of things to keep you guessing. The clues were not particularly hard from an individual standpoint but within the game, they felt difficult. Group made our first visit to Ingenious tonight after seeing them on Yelp. Didn't see any reviews so we decided to just take the plunge and give it a shot. For those that might have mapped the location and are wondering, yes the location is in a house in a residential area. Several rooms inside the house have been converted into the escape rooms. The area is really nice and Javen and the staff were great. They have set up a little reception desk as you walk into the house and they get you all checked in, there are drinks and snacks available as well. After signing a quick waiver and going over the rules we were ready to tackle all 3 rooms Ingenious had to offer. We walked out having completed all three rooms and missed the record time on The Asylum by 1 minute (bummer.) The rooms are interesting and well put together, being a home converted into the escape rooms we were wondering about the quality of the puzzles and objects in the room but everything is very well done and if it weren't for the carpet and closets you wouldn't even know you were in a house it seems like any other escape room from our perspective. They are well setup using TV's to display remaining time and give clues and the clues are well written and given at the right time when the group really gets hung. We founds the puzzles and tricks engaging and were excited as we tried out all 3 rooms. Javen and the staff are very friendly and helpful, they are planning on changing out some rooms in the near future and I know for sure that we'll be back to test our mettle against those rooms as well. We love this escape room! We did the Christmas themed room and Ransom. My husband and I were traveling to check out escape rooms in California. We were on our way back from Concord and discovered this little place. Mary was super nice to us and was a great game master. Even though this place was in a residential neighborhood, it was very professionally done. Definitely a must place to check out to anyone who is an escape room fanatic or who are local. So I purchased a groupon and booked a 6pm game appointment for 3 people. We arrived at 5:30, and got a text saying that a prop broke. Oh well. Called the number and tried to rebook for the next day. Not a problem. 1)This is a residential home. 2) The people running the game are teenagers. 3) They are covid friendly. Had hand sanitizer when arriving. We signed a digital waiver. 4) Was not sure about an escape room outdoors, but it was a lot of fun. Got some fresh air and walked around a pretty nice neighborhood. 5) Bring extra flashlights. This place was amazing! The employee that assisted us was great. We booked a room that was going to be hard for us on accident. She offered us another room that would be easier for us since there was only three of us. We were a little thrown off because it is located in a converted house, but you can't tell on the inside. When you walk in there is a waiting area with games to do while you wait and seating. It is very clean and spacious. The room we did was great. Clues were timed right. Fixtures and props were perfect for the theme of the story that we did. It has it all. Multiple locks and trapped doors sort a speak. We have been to two other escape rooms in our area and this is the best in Bakersfield. Definitely worth it and we highly recommend. read more
