So I need to begin my review by saying a HUGE THANK YOU to Erick! If I could make the font bigger and bolder I would have. Erick- you are the man, your business is awesome and my friends and I appreciate the fun you let us have while we were escaping! It was clear when we got to Real Escape that this place is the real deal. There are nerds happily playing Magic across the parking lot and inside nerds were sportin Star Wars tattoos and making Harry Potter references. My nerd friends and I fit in instantly which was quite welcoming! I purchased the Groupon offered for six people for $89 and it was well worth the price. When we arrived we were all kinda disappointed from our previous activity not playing out the way it was supposed to and most of us had a strong buzz. Erick, the little prince that he is, somehow managed to wrangle us and somewhat explain what our goal was. Once we got in the room all six of us discussed that we weren't listening at all so we just started tearing the place apart looking for clues and keys. We had a walkie-talkie that we used for clues but it was also used for teasing and banter from Erick and his associate. After we escaped like the champions we are (with 7 minutes to spare), Erick offered to take us into their shop. In this shop they are creating Star Wars and Super Hero replicas they are selling, have parts and pieces of old rooms lying around and so much more. It was amazing. It was the hall of dreams!! Erick even showed me photos of his gorgeous daughter's costume makeup skills. We all had such a great time that before we even left the parking lot the six of use decided we were going to come back once the room switched to a new theme. read more

As a big escape room enthusiast I've been intrigued by Real Escape for a bit but hesitant to book due to some questionable reviews. I decided to message them and ask them about the reviews, they brought it to my attention that there are new owners and the room that created so many of the negative reviews as in place when they took over, they have since removed it and added new rooms of their own. We booked both of their current rooms (Bayou Mystery and Bird Movie) this weekend for my wife's birthday to give it a shot. The Bayou mystery room is visually really nice. I like the setup a lot, the sounds/music is nice and the story was great. The room needs something else, I don't know exactly what but it needs something a little more innovative maybe? The room was just a few puzzles and a couple different types of locks, I was looking for something just a little more like a more interactive puzzle, something mechanical, idk just something to give it a little different feel than puzzle, lock, puzzle lock, rinse and repeat. The Bird Movie room is fantastic. It has a lot of different elements and the puzzles are fantastic. This room really had a great feel to it and it's really difficult, we enjoyed it a lot and would highly recommend it . Overall it was a great experience, the staff is very friendly and helpful. We let them know we love escape rooms but aren't great at them so they were very kind in giving us a nudge in the right direction when we got lost (which was often.) Thanks for a great time and we'll be back to try out new rooms in the future as they become available. read more

I love a good logic puzzle and quality time with friends, and Real Escape is just that! We've done two escape rooms here so far and can't wait to do another. It's very reasonably priced (even without the Groupon). The rooms are challenging without being frustrating. We've succeeded both times with 5 to 6 people. They have themed rooms that will excite any nerd. The rooms are pretty DIY. I appreciate that the owners/employees put their own blood, sweat, and tears into creating the rooms. read more

Date night was epic & totally worth a babysitter (that for me is the highest degree of compliment). love board games, video games & puzzles so I thought this would be easy. It's not easy & it takes a team with very different skills. This misdirection is one of best parts. It's dark in there so don't wear pumps and u can pinch you hubs butt without anyone noticing (just sayin). Oh but you are in camera so keep it clean people. The staff is super nice. Because of Friday night Magic tournament at game store across the way the parking was not great but doable. I can't think of anyone that would not have fun doing this, it's just fun. Real Escape - Escape Games Near Me - Bakersfield, California

Visiting from out of town and thought we'd check out a local escape room with the family. We've done about a dozen other rooms in other cities, and this was one of the worst we've been to. The staff seemed very disorganized upon arrival and were quite behind schedule (we began almost an hour after our scheduled start time); the instructions provided felt unrehearsed and redundant. While waiting, we overheard the staff speaking about another room in progress that had not been set up correctly. We paid extra for the "premium" room which did not qualify for the Groupon, and we were excited to hear that it was their most challenging room. In reality, the greatest challenge was trying to open their faulty locks - the staff entered the room, confirmed we had the correct combo, and couldn't open it themselves for a good 5 minutes. Overall, it was an underwhelming experience: faulty equipment, poor organization, and easy puzzles. Second star is for the two small upsides: we got a patch for finishing, and someone in our group found a hidden free admit token in the room. I would have traded both of these for a better overall experience, and likely will not be returning. read more

Four adults - Wonderland room If we were rating ambiance alone, this room would get five stars. The hard work that went into creating this environment is obvious. A couple of the puzzles were cool and were unique. Ultimately, the story was lacking, the clues were directionally weak and most of the puzzles were whatever. We broke out in less than 30 minutes and it would have been 15 if we hadn't spent five on a walkie talkie malfunction and another ten on an unclear technicality. There needs to be more content to justify charging people for an hour long game. We won't be back to try the other rooms, which is a bummer because the potential is there. read more

Real Escape - We killed it! - Escape Games Near Me - Bakersfield, California

I'll have to chalk this up to being in the minority here. My experience was none of the fun some other reviewers described. The Bootleggers room is being phased out and maybe that's part of it, but there was no music or intrigue that others have mentioned, just a dark and dirty room. I was ill-informed by the staff upon entering as far as the main clue I was given anyway. I felt I was mislead in some ways from the beginning with poor instructions about the clues, to find that when I failed (actually surrendered) there was no possible way to have guessed anything based on what I was originally told. I came away feeling pretty stupid to say the least. I wouldn't have been able to guess it in a million years, much less an hour. I salute anyone that actually solved this one. Suffice it to say, this reviewer knows this is a young person's idea of fun, I get it. Crawling around on the dirty floor to try to play the game IF you can possibly see anything you're doing is, well, not for me. It's the price of a good manicure (which I'll have to get re-done after digging around for clues. This was a rip-off in my opinion, an experience I'll add to the list of unpleasant things, like dental work without novacaine or getting a bikini wax. Needless to say, I won't be back, nor recommend this type of entertainment to anyone I know. Sorry kids, it's all yours! read more

We went today to play Wonderland and had a blast. This room was pretty simple-- more puzzles than really analyzing and figuring it out but it was a blast. We got there a few minutes early and they totally accommodated us. The front desk guys were also great and very sweet. My only downside was that we didn't realize we had to give the final response via walkie talkie. so we yelled it and then ended up using the 2 way. But this was so minor. A lovely family business and we will definitely be back to visit very soon and try another room!! 5 stars for sure. read more

I have been to 3 escape room businesses in Bakersfield. This experience was the worst of the 3. The room was hot, props didn't work as they should, and communication with the staff was poor. We had a walkie talkie but couldn't hear due to quality and acoustics (everything echoed--the video and the clues from the walkie talkie) in the room. We paid using a groupon and they put us in a room they said they were beta testing. It was supposed to have some cool things like lasers but apparently those weren't in operation yet. If you are going to build a room, make it fully functional. I understand there are times when you set out things to distract the players, but this was really weird. I won't be returning. read more

This place is amazing, the staff are courteous and make you feel at home. Did the Wizard's Lair with my 6 year old and had a BLAST! Oh man, it was a blast trying to solve the puzzles in the room. These guys are amazing!! We just did the Bootleggers Warehouse, it is their "lock heavy" realistic room (as opposed to Wizards Lair, Puzzle heavy and fantasy inspired) and got 99% of the way and failed miserably. But will be back to see what they come up with next. read more

We have done 131 rooms and the nuclear room was by far the WORST room we have ever done. It wasn't clearly put together. It was all locks that had no rhyme or reason to them. We walked out so frustrated and they had to know that and they asked, "did you have fun?!" Ummmm...no! You could hear and see us the whole time!!! The rooms were one sided (one room had all the puzzles) and the other room we just sat around. Good thing there was a couch. Good thing we have done the rest of the rooms there cause we will not be going back. read more

Loved it so much, we are already planning our return to do the other room. 2 adults and 2 16 year olds had a blast solving the Wizards Room (yaaay, we did it!!!). This was a very fun experience! Things that need improvement include lack of efficient air conditioning and lighting and lack there of. In regards to the a/c, it was really hot in the room. There was a^c, but it was small and didn't provide enough cooling for the room especially here in the heat of summer in Bakersfile6. The door needs weather stripping to prevent the light from coming in and taking away from the ambience and experience. That being said, a pen light or something similar should be offered to use on the small locks with combinations. I didn't take reading glasses, but thank goodness my aunt did nor we would never have been able to see the combination on the lock. All n of that being said, I would definitely go back and recommend people to go. It is a fun thing to do her in BakeTown! read more

Very fun! A friend and I went here tonight for her birthday, and we had such a blast trying to figure out all of the clues and looking for hidden items. We had never done an escape room before, so we weren't entirely sure what we were getting into. Glad we made some good progress for it just being the 2 of us. I can't wait to go back to finally complete the Wizard's Lair! Extra fun because we are fans of wizardry. (Nice touch of HP!) I think my hubby & I will have to go and work through The Heist! This was the best thing I've ever done in town! The staff is great and are very informative on what to expect. The room was prepped perfectly and kept you on your toes. There was 6 of us in the room and everyone had something occupying them trying to figure out clues. We did not get out on time but since it was all our first time we were not surprised. I was looking for something fun to do for my grandaughters 14th birthday when i found escape rooms.All 3 in bakersfield were online booking only so i couldnt call to ask questions and this one had the best availability. Had i been able to call i wouldve found out the student discount wouldve applied without id.I also almost messed up and put the ternagers as adults.The website had children (2-11) meaning how many children not the age considered to be adult or child. So online booking needs some work. Pulled up to the place no signage to know we were there had to go in and ask. Now review of the experience. We chose the under the sea room. Front desk was thorough in explaining how things work.Room was well decorated a little dark but i think that was part of key components in solving the clues to get out. The front desk was very helpful and kept in touch with us to offer clues. We did not get out in the alloted time to escape but only missed by seconds. The experience was fun and entertaining. Requiring a group of teenage girls to work together and use there brains to solve puzzles was great. After we were done the guy explained how to solve the last puzzle we missed and the discounts i missed out on and invited us back. Wouldve been 5 stars but that online booking was not fun. read more

I have been to 4 escape rooms now, and this escape room was by far the worst. We did the nuclear attack room. Do NOT go to this escape room. Upon first entry, room was very dirty and wasn't kept up well at all. Very hot in the room, poor ventilation. The room is just sheetrock with no effort into the decoration or even painting of the walls. The puzzles just solely evolve around opening locks- nothing very exciting like RFID locks or anything else interactive. Not much searching. The room is lacking serious ingenuity, storyline, and is outrageously bare considering it's 20$ a person. The decor and the objects around the room were dirt cheap, I could have found better props in a dumpster. In short, it was like they hid keys in bottles and wrote a few sloppy riddles to open the combo locks. Not satisfying at all to accomplish. This is an escape room that popped up with the bare minimum and only cares about making a quick buck. Extraordinarily poor carpentry and electrical work. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else! read more
