We had a consult over the phone and sent pictures of the tattoos we wanted. when we got there, there were several issues with "color on melanated skin". they ABSOLUTELY do not feel comfortable doing color. then one tattoo was upgraded from a 1 hour to a 2 hour design. In the end, one of the tattoos was only colored in at 60% and the artist said "if you want full color, it will be extra". Mario was a great artist-listens and was efficient. otherwise, this place does mediocre work and is a money grab. GO ELSEWHERE!!! read more

Terrible experience and it starts right from the top with an owner who knows nothing about running a business nor customer service. They did a pop-up event at a local brewery that was an absolute nightmare. Signed up in advance with my girlfriend for 515 appointment. The deal was a three tattoos for 100 bucks pretty good right? Yeah I know I designs book but in there was the number four and all I wanted was my angel numbers 444.. she dubbed that a custom job and said it would cost me the whole hundred bucks and one hour to do that which is absurd we're talking three numbers not even a half inch in diameter or width. But even worse, their system was chaotic with disinterested artists who would rather eat than work and they were woefully behind. instead of owning it, they would tell us your next and just a couple minutes more. At one point, almost 2 hours after my scheduled time I simply asked the owner if my girlfriend would be in the chair in the next 15-20 minutes and she promised me and said it will be sooner. So when another 30 minutes passed and they sat someone who didn't even have an appointment over us that was it. I demanded a refund and reluctantly got it. They clearly did not give a darn about their schedule nor the people that made the effort to book advance, rather it was friends and family just show up and we will get you right in. I can't comment on the artwork because I didn't get anything but I'll never go there again that's for sure. And I used to get work done there, but I learned tonight it was from a different owner and the artist I worked with left. The way she's running it. I wouldn't be surprised if they lose their brick and trying to scam people with these events. In short, not only was their pop-up event at a brewery that was supposed to be fun a complete disaster but it was compounded by a rude and uncaring owner that if just been honest, I probably wouldn't have written this review. But to tell me over and over again, I'm next and it's only be a couple of minutes while I waited 2 1/2 hours and saw people just waltz into open chairs.... that's unacceptable read more

I had an appointment to get a pretty small tattoo on my arm about a month ago when they had to postpone last minute. I was very understanding and we rescheduled for a month later. Today they again tried to postpone last minute. I told them I had already been waiting a whole month from the last cancellation and asked them to please find a way to fit me in, but they weren't able to accommodate. I don't know if they were booking more expensive appointments on top of my appointment and putting me in last priority or what, but regardless that's very unprofessional. They were great here! It was my first tattoo, and I was pretty nitpicky (spelling?) about the design (fleur de lis), for the obvious reason that if it's going to be on my body forever, it better be what I want. I brought in a picture of the tattoo and they didn't trace it because the picture was asymmetric. We worked together to draw what I had in mind and they were totally patient and carried out all the details until it was my idea of perfect. The tattoo part was quick and easy and they gave me a handy little aftercare kit. The little tattoo was $120 though, which was definitely more expensive than i expected. I also got my cartilage pierced here a couple years ago and it healed quickly and came out nicely. More recently, I got my nose pierced here, and I'm not sure if every place uses this type of jewelry, but the stud they used had virtually nothing on the other end to keep it from coming out. Then, even though I followed all the instructions for after-care, the stud came out while I was sleeping the second night I had it in! And it was so small that I couldn't find it in my bed or on the floor, so I decided to get my nose repierced on the other side. The second time was much faster, and I only had to pay for the jewelry instead of another piercing. It's been about two weeks and the stupid stud came out plenty of times, and it got lost in the ocean the other day. The piercing itself is fine, though - it's almost fully healed and now I'm just looking for another stud or something to replace the last. read more

Apparently, now all tattoos start at $200! I foolishly went in, thinking they would not charge me that for literally 3 letters, but I was wrong. Got my nipple pierced here and you can see how the piercer completely missed the dot they marked earlier. My friend was going to get her tragus pierced after me and asked if they had titanium for it and they said no so I asked if mine was titanium and they awkwardly said it was sterling. To be fair it was my fault for not asking earlier but every other piercer I've been to has at least asked or clarified before. My friend felt uncomfortable and decided not to go through with it and we left. Cold goodbye at the front desk too haha. Will probably go somewhere else to re-do. :( read more

Came here months ago to get my first tattoo on my hip. The tattoo was fairly simple and came out fine but the artist seems to lack knowledge on proper care and treatment for tattoos. I asked repeatedly if there was anything i should put on it after i took off the bandaid, but he kept saying no it'll be fine. After getting advice from another tattoo artist and many people after my second tattoo, i was advised that it is important to put ointment on it for 2 weeks and sunscreen on it when going into the sun. Also, he never shaved the area first. Not that there were any visible body hairs on my hip, but after going to get tattoos with friends and getting another one myself, i noticed that they always shave the area to make sure it's clean and that there are no in grown hairs. Although i got this tattoo less than a year ago, it's already starting to fade. I've had multiple other tattoo artists look at it to see if i can get a touch up and many commented that the technique used when doing this tattoo wasn't as professional as it could have been. There are uneven areas that are darker than others and some spots that are a little bumpy. I know that other people love this place and thats why i came here, but it just seems like the work was done carelessly and the lack of instructions for how to care for it is unprofessional. It's sad to write that i've had such poor experiences here. I was pierced with a hoop for a nose piercing, 8 months later I have to get it removed and repierced because a seamless ring being used should never have been given to me for a brand new piercing. They should have known better. My belly button piercing was so crooked it was embarrassing, I took it out. I called the shop and asked when Shawn could potentially touch up my ink, since only after a year my tattoo has blow out and patches of ink missing (this was my first tattoo. I took care of it like a baby!) he admitted "it happens sometimes" They will not give me a time slot without booking for another tattoo, or I have to pay to get it touched up. Etiquette in the industry is that most artists will touch up their work for free, at least within a certain time frame. I have been contacting him for well over a year as he has done some other work for me. Would not recommend going here nor do I feel like any of these people deserve business. read more

My friend had a positive experience there for a tattoo so I decided to try for my nose. Went there to get my nose pierced a couple weeks ago. Had a pretty standard experience, the guy Dylan who did the piercing was nice and professional. However, two days later my piercing fell out after I accidentally brushed it with my hand (very lightly, didn't yank/ pull/ wasn't playing with it whatsoever). Went back two days later to get it redone. I walked in and explained what happened and they redid it for free (it was a different piercer than Dylan-- didn't get this guy's name), but when I was trying to talk about possible issues with the first piercing that could have caused it to fall out so easily in order to prevent it from happening again (shape of stud used for piercing, angle of insertion, etc) my questions and concerns were brushed off and ignored. I was essentially rushed in and out. A week later, THIS piercing falls out after getting caught on a thread on my pillow. There wasn't even any sort of tug/ resistance-- it came out easily. At this point I'm frustrated and would have gone to another place, except I didn't want to have to pay full prince again and this happened to be taking place on Dec 31 when most other places were closed. **BTW-- it was $60 for this piercing at ink side out. Other places in the area will do it for $45-50. Go there.** I go back concerned and wanting to discuss with them what happened and they pretty much don't listen to my questions and shrug it off as coincidence. I decide to try one more time on the other side of my nose. The same man who redid it for me last time refuses to do it for free because "we don't do anything here for free" (even though he redid it for me free last time) and is belittling of my concerns and obviously annoyed. He starts to repierce my nose and about halfway through makes a mistake and my nose starts squirting blood everywhere. He starts yelling at me that it's my fault because I moved even though I had two witnesses there tell me that I didn't. Also, I know that I didn't because it's my THIRD TIME getting my nose pierced and I'm an expert at this point. Even if the mistake did happen because I moved, I'm obviously upset and he is being incredibly rude to me, getting frustrated and impatient with me, and is blaming me for his mistake. I decide that I don't want to go through with the rest of the piercing because I'm bleeding everywhere and I leave crying and piercing-less. I now have 2 holes in my nose besides my nostrils that are just chilling there empty. Do not go there for a nose piercing! Only reason this doesn't have one star is because my mom, sister, and friend have gotten ear piercings there without issue. TL;DR: I've gotten my nose pierced here three times and still don't have a nose piercing. read more

Getting a tattoo is not just about the tattoo itself, but also about the meaning and memory of getting it. I came here with my younger sisters in December 2017, and we overall had a wonderful experience. Ben treated us so well, and above all, he was really patient with our blabbering mouths and neuroticism. We were clearly nervous and jittery, but he was very warm and friendly. Tons of people hanging around makes you feel very uncomfortable. The owner seems disconnected and lacks customer care. He makes you feel like your bothering him with questions and feedback. I'm done dealing with them. I got 1 there a couple of years ago and it's jacked as hell. Just because you live in Norwalk doesn't mean you have to permanently mark your body with sub par work from local yocals. If you're looking for a lip tattoo, GO ELSEWHERE. Apparently Elliot is the only artist in the shop able to do a lip tattoo. I understand that lip tattoos are a bit difficult, but as an artist, if your skill level is not up to par, then don't bother trying. Out of respect, it would be nice to save someone the money and the aggravation. My tattoo was fine for about 2 hours. After that, the ink bled to the point where the word is unrecognizable...and is now just a large blot of black ink inside my lip. It's embarrassing and I can only hope that this fades quickly. Aside from the horrible line work and the fact that he had zero knowledge of how deep to insert the needle, it was completely overpriced. Save your money and the embarrassment. It's just a shame that a tattoo I was looking so forward to is now something I don't dare show anyone unless they're looking for a good laugh. Will not return to this shop. I came here recently to get my nose pierced. I first found out about it when stopping someone in Greenwich who I saw with their nose pierced and asked where they got it done. She really recommended it and said they are the best in the area (I had just moved here so I didnt have any idea). The guy who did it was pretty relaxed and straight forward, I already had my nose pierced before and Ive had many other piercings in the past including industrial and nipple. I explained to him even though I love piercings I am really not good with needles. He assured me I would be fine and it that he is very quick and it will be easy. And it was, it was by far the easiest, best, quickest and more relaxed piercing experience I've ever had. No fuss and pretty much no pain! The reason I can't give it 5 stars however is because when I was first enquiring about it, I called up and asked the girl how much, and if I need an appointment etc. She said it was $60 (which is expensive I think - especially for Norwalk, I had my nipple pierced in NYC for $50 at a really good place). So the price I think is a little high. Also the fact that after enquiring about the piercing I asked what time they were open until, she said 7pm. I drove over and got there at 5.35, I told her I was here to get my nose pierced and she replied that that piercer just left as he leaves at 5.30pm. Ok then.... The week after that I got out of work and wanted to drive over and hopefully catch him before he left, I called (at 5.05 on a saturday) and told them I will be leaving now from stamford and I should be there before 5.30 but I just wanted to make sure it would be ok if I came now. Her response was pretty much, he leaves at 5.30 and if you aren't here by then and get stuck in traffic he's still going to leave. Again, ok then.... Fair enough. But this is a $60 2 minute piercing were talking about, if I was 5 minutes late he couldn't just quickly do it? So I didn't bother going I didn't want to risk it for a second time. And one other slight annoying factor was that they didn't have any plain silver small studs, he pierced it with a gem one, he didn't give me the choice. When I saw it I asked do you guys not have any plain ones, he replied no. Which is again annoying paying $60 for something that isn't fully what you want. All in all though the piercing experience was great, I'm just being a bit nitpicky, the girl on reception was really sweet and through everything on the phone was really nice and was never rude. The guy that pierced it was as I said was quick and he was also pretty informative yet laid back. I would definitely come back! read more

Probably best piercing experience I've had. It was super easy. They take walk in appointments, so I walked in at 4:00 and left at 4:06. I got two cartilage piercings and Josh was extremely helpful with his opinion and how to take care of it. He was precise and quick, making the pain almost unnoticeable. The care treatment is free when you get a piercing, and I'm going to swear by it because it's been the easiest and best experience. I've also gotten a tattoo from this place a few years earlier and that experience was identical to this. I absolutely love this place!! read more

Went here for piercings, and then returned later with my sister for two tattoos for her. The tattoos were great, and they asked a ton of questions to get placement and sizing correct. I loved their attention to detail and the tattoos are still going strong 5+ months later. For that, I think this shop is an A+ experience, and it earns them 3 stars. However, I learned later on that curved barbells for a certain piercing were a big no-no, and guess what? I got curved barbells. They didn't ask me what gauge, and they showed me no other jewelry options. A year later, they're still healing, which I know is normal, but I can't help but think they should have been much further along, if not healed. I'm a very fast healer, so this is just annoying. For piercings, go elsewhere. -2 stars. They were friendly and reasonable in prices, but piercings are one thing you should never have to be iffy about. read more

Terrible experience!!! Came here to get my first tattoo. Discussed the design with the artist, George, in a great deal of detail. Was rather anxious to begin with, but after the discussion thought that the artist seemed to know really well what he was doing, so believed that I could trust him. Unfortunately, half way through the treatment, the artist got overly creative and took the liberty to enhance the design without my consent. When questioned what he was doing, he provided some very misleading answers. Having had no prior tattoo-related experience, I trusted that he had MY best interest at heart. Sadly, I ended up with a hideous and unrecognizable drawing, which not even in the slightest represents the original design, and it has no meaning to me what so ever. In addition, before we the treatment began, I'd asked the artist a number of questions about any possible side effects and the aftercare. He was very convincing by reassuring me that I'd be given a very thorough aftercare advice at the end of the session. Upon completion of the work, the artist handed me an Ink Side Out's business card and said that all of the aftercare information I needed was to be found on the website. I'm giving the place one star only because a zero stars is not an option. Will NOT be recommending!!! read more

I have gotten three piercings here so far (2 cartilage and my tragus) and my experiences have been amazing. Everyone is very professional. You are given an amazing spray which helps it stay clean and eases the pain. I believe Josh is who does the piercings and he is GREAT. Super friendly and makes the experience very enjoyable. I was very nervous about my tragus but he explained how he was going to do it and talked me through it. He also let me friend come in the room with me to hold my hand which was nice. I have gotten my piercings before at claires which was not as great as they use a gun and the staff is not very knowledgeable. Do not go here if you want a perfect tattoo and a fun enjoyable experience. I got a tattoo done here last year and the artist could not have been any more unprofessional. He was extremely rude and sarcastic right off the bat - this is not how I want the artist who is about to put something permanent on my body to be. After multiple attempts to position my tattoo correctly he grew frustrated that I wasn't satisfied with the uneven placing.
