Masood is a G - he's a real one. I booked the only room that was available online which was a room with one King bed for me and my teenage son. When I checked in, Masood looks in the car and asks me how old my son is. I told him he's 15. He then says "You're gonna need a room with 2 queens - I'll change it for you." He also took the time to walk us around and show the little creek area with all his ducks. The place is nestled in a redwood forest and the cabin was very cozy. We are planning another stay in a few weeks. read more

If you're looking for Glamping style lodging that's pet friendly, and family friend, or both! This is a great option. I stayed in lodge #7 and it was awesome. The room came with a queen bed. Pull out couch if needed. A sofa. A fridge with a freezer. A microwave. A small toaster oven. A dining table set for two. A small 42 inch TV. Wifi. And a full size bathroom with a stand up shower with good water pressure. I chose this lodge because it's super dog friendly and family friendly. The only request is that you keep your dog on leash at all times while outdoors. The property has a mix of lodges and RVs to chose from. It has two coffee stations with filtered water stations at the front office and a nice big river with crystal clear water that flows through the back of the property with some areas deeper than others that can be used as a swimming hole/quick dip. Also, theres a few ducks and geese rescued from the animal shelter that lives down the river and are visable from the property. Despite temperatures rising to the 90's F at peak day, my room stayed 68F because of the nice big redwood trees that shaded that room. It has 2 big windows towards the front of the room and 1 window in the bathroom. It was equipped with AC if needed. The property also had communal propane grills to use for cooking and a propane cook top, stove to use. They are limited in plates, utensils and plates, so make sure to pack your own picnic utensils! I also packed my own spices, food, cooking tools, plates and utensils etc as if i was going camping. The staff members are all super friendly and helpful. I can't tell you the number of times i hear the host pick up his cellphone because a visitor is lost. They are currently making major improvements to all the lodges. Im looking forward to coming back post renovations. read more

My second visit and just as wonderful as the first. I noticed most of the negative reviews are for the RV rentals. It's important to define we rent the cabins on the river which is about $200 a night. There's 2 cabins on the river. The first time I think we stayed at the Matilda. Matilda has easier access to the river and parking. This time we stayed in Jaxen. The cabin is slightly dated. The kitchenware is hodgepodge. But keep in mind Boulder Creek is just outside of Santa Cruz, so it's kind of a vibe. The cabins comfortable for two people in the bedroom with a giant closet. In Jaxen the bed is a queen. I seem to recall the bed in Matilda was smaller but I could be wrong. But yes, this does give ages cabin feels, but I if you can deal with a little rustic dust and two squeaky beds in the living room you will be fine. Things to know; and tips; There's no grounded plugs so bring a converter. The shower is meh. Pressure and drain is so-so. The beds in the living room are two twin size beds. Those squeak but they are ok. There's also a bonus fold out sofa in the living room. You get a small fridge, stove and microwave. If you are coming when it's colder, there's a heater in the bedroom but none in the living room. Buy firewood before you come. If you wait until you get into town it's like 3x as much as normal. That will keep you warm through the night. Also the fridge are on the lowest setting when you come in, which is typical energy saving practice. If you have fridge items come and turn up that fridge asap. The good stuff, this is the one place in the world I have found quiet. The cabin faces the woods, the river is directly beneath it. The sound is pure peace. My favorite part is drinking a cup of coffee on the large balcony. Fresh mountain air. You are just two blocks from the main road where there is small markets, cafe, bar, and cute artistic walls, and of course a gas station. Easy walking access to everything. The river my kids loved to play in during our first visit. This second visit it was colder, about on the 50 degree area so we avoided but took long periods enjoying the nature views. Right in front of Masoods is Scopazzi, it's a nicer looking Italian place. I haven't tried but I do recommend the Saw Mill which is just 3 miles down the road. If you need bigger city it's only 5 minutes from Ben Lomand. Here we ate at Casa Nostra. That was good as well. This place is close to Santa Cruz. We stayed here for easy access to Santa Cruz, Great America (1 hour away), Mystery Spot (30 minutes away) for my birthday. Masood, that guy is a character. He's such a ham. You know when you meet such genuine funny people who embodied "I'm a people person" mentality. That is Masood. He walks you over to where you need to go, he checked on us before our reservation started, gave us privacy, and entertained my kids. He was great. Overall, this is my go-to. We had such a wonderful stay in Masood's Lodge. This place is a little piece of heaven. The creek was divine. Our room was clean and super comfy. The beds were excellent. The shower with its refreshing warm water was all we needed after our long hikes. All essential appliances were available. We had a full size refrigerator that was perfect for all the food we had packed. There were grills, wooden bbq, coffee and water as much as we needed. And above all, the host Masood was super friendly and engaging with our kids. The kids enjoyed watching the local ducks in the creek. read more

Parking was atrocious. Water pressure almost non existent in shower. No hot water in bathroom sink. Very bad lighting (had to shower in dark). Half of the lights throughout did not work. The provided shampoo and conditioner were bottles bought somewhere like a drug store or Walmart and just sitting on floor of shower. Extremely unsanitary (who knows what was left in or on them from previous users?). Tv had two different remotes and were a pain in the ass to use. They had geese (noisy ganders) that were squelching at 6 am. Housekeeping did not come during our two night stay. read more

This place was exactly as we expected. A cabin near a creek within a small town. The rate was fair especially because they had a winter special rate. We stayed in a cabin with a full kitchen that had two twin beds and one queen. The couch could potentially be another bed. It was equipped with a living room heater, coffee, an air fryer, and even a bidet. The bathroom could use a bit of TLC but when you're in a cabin you shouldn't expect perfection. I must say that parking is a little tight. I imagine if this place was completely booked it would be difficult to fit a bunch of cars but we went in winter and enjoyed the quiet. Its a huge bonus that they are pet friendly. I would recommend bringing extra blankets or a space heater if you're staying in the bedroom or everyone pile in the living room for warmth. They have a fire place but i think you would need to provide your own lighters and wood. We would have asked about it if we were staying more nights which we will definitely do next time. read more

Extremely poor experience. Owner was most probably drunk upon arrival and algae in the sink, notes left for probably guests who stayed before us, visible fingerprints everywhere, dirty microwave, refrigerator and oven. I booked with these guys over the phone, the guy took payment over the phone and said my reservation is confirmed. I asked for confirmation number or some sort of proof, he said don't worry he has it in his record. Me, my wife and our puppy arrived at around 9pm. Owner was standing by his office and there was an open beer can right by his feet, outside his office. He said, "we're closed", then started laughing and said he's kidding.He showed us the RV, then he came to my car, my wife and dog were still in the car and he tried to open the door to let the dog out. I advised him not to do that and then he said is that your dog? I am like, yes? He goes on says he is too big, are you crazy and he was VERY loud. He was definitely intoxicated. We went inside the trailer, and slept. We woke up after getting some rest and wanted to eat. We then found out, kitchen sink had green algae, microwave buttons had visible fingerprints on it and was dirty from side. Refrigerator and over were also dirty. Also, it'll be very difficult to sleep on the bed for more than couple of hours, it is very uncomfortable. We wanted to just leave, at 8am, i went to his office, it was closed, i called him and told him i am turning in keys and i need my receipt. During checkin he didn't give any receipt or even checked my id. He said he can send it later, I insisted i need it now, he came and this point he is very different person then he was night before, he was very calm and not talking alot. We rented most of Masood's cabins for our family. It was my daughter's wedding. He was very accommodating to all our requests and changes. We could walk to cabin to cabin and see our family members; listening to the creek. It's the most peaceful, beautiful and rustic property. The moment we drove in the owner was super friendly and welcoming , immediately showed us our cabin , and the he went to go show us around . Such a beautiful creek . So cozy clean they have a fireplace inside cabin which I thought was amazing. It had ALL THE Amenities, full kitchen with plates silverware pots.fridge , microwave, full bathroom , even have a bidet. We arrived an hour earlier than check in and the owner, Masood, met us there immediately and greeted us and walked us over to our cabin. We got so lucky as he upgraded us to a river front view. It was beautiful, calm and serene. Just what we needed for the weekend. The cabin was perfect it had a queen bed in a room and two twin size in the living room with a convertible couch. The kitchen was equipped with a microwave, dishes, plastic cutlery, fridge and even an air fryer. We immediately regretted staying only one night. We will for sure be back with the entire family!! The outdoors had places to relax, a bbq and fire pit, the patio had its private table. It's a perfect getaway. Can't wait to be back. read more

well, Masoud was a true gentleman and a very pleasant man to meet the lodge # 9 inparticular left much to be desired. The shower had black mold in every corner. There was no tissue paper in the tissue box. The only amenity in the entire room was one extra roll of toilet paper the two towels that were supplied for our two day stay were used up the first night, and there was no service even though there was an envelope from the maid requesting a tip. Upon returning to our home, our suitcase, every item in our suitcase, smelled mildew and moldy from our moist stay at Masoud. There was no air circulation. There was a heater. The windows were covered with moisture every morning, which I believe leads to mold growth. We found it necessary to write a review as the pictures can be deceiving. we visited Boulder Creek every year to see my children sometimes twice a year, but will never return to the lodge! When I called to let Masood know in our disappointing stay he said all I had to do was ask and he would have provided more towels! Not to mention the matress was the most uncomfortable mattress I have ever slept on and we couldnt wait to get out of there! read more

I don't know where to start except to warn other travelers NOT to stay here. Firstly, the owner is super strange-he baited and switched us from one RV to another once we arrived. The RV was very dirty and run down and wedged between 2 cabins and another filthy RV. Trying to say it's 'riverside' is a joke. He charged my card even though I had already paid via Hotels.com. The shower head was about chest high, because it was broken, the screen door was broken, everywhere was covered in a layer of dirt and dust. There were two disgusting recliners outside he proudly showed us for outdoor lounging, There was a party in one of the cabins until 5 AM and between that, and the filthy sheets and creaking mattress I didn't sleep a wink and we left as soon as my fiancé got up, forfeiting another night's stay. Do not trust this establishment!! The owner tried to withhold our deposit even though I specifically asked to be charged for the room when I arrived at the property. He went ahead and charged my card right away and then disputed that he hadn't charged my card and that I had to take it up with my bank. When I investigated it further, it turns out the billing company he contracts with had withdrawn the money and he was fully aware of them doing so. Please beware of this lodge and its owner. Why did they change their name and double the price. I've stayed at the MERRYBROOK LODGE since the 1960's. How dare they change the name.

IF I COULD LEAVE NEGATIVE STARS, I WOULD. DO NOT BOOK THIS PROPERTY. I booked this property a year in advance because we were going to be there for work and it was a holiday weekend. We arrived in the afternoon to check in and they did not have a room for us. This was pretty catastrophic as we were going back to work that night and did not have a place to take a shower and change after being in 100 degree weather all day working. The host was not helpful. Instead of trying to assist us in finding a room, he kept interrupting us when we were making calls to other lodging and shoving his phone in our face trying to say it was not his fault. He then handed me his phone after calling his website/booking tech person, and that jerk just kept saying it was not their fault. NONE of this was helpful and ultimately IT IS THEIR FAULT because they took my booking, took my money, and did not provide a room. All I was interested in at that point in time was finding us a room within a reasonable distance from our job site and getting my money refunded. We found a room that added 30 minutes to our drive, cost more money due to late booking and it being a holiday weekend, and I am still waiting for a refund that the owner promised to do that night, July 5th. I have had to resort to wasting even more of time contacting VRBO to assist with getting my money from this horrible host. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT BOOK this property or just keep in mind that you may be sleeping in your car or pack a tent to sleep in the woods, just in case. read more

We stayed at Masood's lodge for the memorial day weekend with our family post shelter in place. The lodge is simple, cozy and tucked away in the mountains. These pictures attached are pictures from a flowing river behind the lodge where you can dip your feet, throw rocks and enjoy the quiet scenary of the mountains. The lodge is a 5mn walk to the main strip of Boulder Creek where you can visit restaurants / coffee shops and a 20-30mn car ride to Santa Cruz Beach Board Walk. We stayed there to visit the Roaring Camp Railroads in Felton, CA which my son loves and the railroads were about 15-20mns away from the lodge. Mr. Masood was hospitable and very accomodating with all our request to feel comfortable. We left our chromecast behind the TV in the lodge we stayed and Mr. Masood mailed it to me when we got home. We had a wonderful stay at Masood's Lodge in Boulder Creek, CA in the Santa Cruz mountains. Mr. Masood had recently acquired, and is updating/upgrading the property, by freshening up the accommodations (paint, flooring, etc.) as well as planting fruit trees and other bushes and plants. We enjoyed our conversations with Mr. Masood (what a character)! The property is right on a babbling creek which can be enjoyed while you have your morning coffee, or take a dip to cool off! Proximity to the Big Basin Redwoods State Park, as well as walking distance to the downtown of Boulder Creek, is perfection. We had a wonderful, comfortable stay, and look forward to coming back again (and hopefully staying in the "Jaxen" or "Madelyn" cottages, right on the creek!) Thank you. read more

I hate to give this place just one rotten star, because I want to support the local economy and surrounding businesses in the area. I thought the cabins themselves had been redone because the owner, Mr Masood mentioned revamping the place when he purchased it three years prior, and the cost suggested that they would be spruced up (about $300 in August for a one bedroom/full size, NOT a Queen, after taxes and fees). Instead, he's just painted the exterior and changed the name. Oh, and squeezed a trailer into every possible space between cabins (which were appropriately spaced when the place was built!). Mr. Masood -- who is strange and overbearing -- made us uncomfortable. He took us to the cabin we would stay in when we enquired about booking, then pushed us into the bedroom (with a new bed and two small, new side tables), then blocked us there while telling me to book and pay on my phone, as that was easier for him. This cleverly prevented us from seeing the remainder of the cabin until we had paid. It is old and gross and has an old smell of mildew and tobacco that I couldn't get rid of despite running the fan and opening every window. I cannot over emphasize the dinginess (though we still left a tip for the cleaning staff in the envelope provided, as there is a limit to what can be done in such conditions). The light switch plates were caked with black hand filth, the shower was old and cracked -- we chose not to use it. There was everything from crumbs to actual greasy dirty kitchen dinge in the cabinets. The two twin beds forced into the living room, made no sense and just caused offense more than anything. There were blankets on top of the two twin beds in the LIVING that I wouldn't expect to see for free on a garage sale table, and the matching pillow cases were so foul and hair covered, that I'm pretty sure someone used them for dog beds. Not a difficult mistake to make. The cabins smell like the decades of acrid smoke that has taken place there in the past (it seems to have seeped into the wood); smoking is allowed on the property, and if you have smokers next to you in one of the RV spaces, expect the smoke to waft into the windows, which we had to open to deal with the smell of the pre-existing smoke. While the bed was comfortable, it was a full-size, not a queen, and we slept well enough -- Mr Masood began with the F-ing LEAF BLOWER at 9am! Yet, check out was "around11." Like everything else, he had no self-awareness, nor care for guest's comfort beyond lip service. The loud, aggravating blower droned on for at least an hour, and got us up an out before check out time. We just looked at him exasperated and weary as we departed. There was too much to even begin to say to him then and there. I could go on in this vein. There are a few positives to point out, the creek-facing cabins do have sizable patios, and you can hear the creek and frogs and get dizzy looking up at the beautiful redwoods. The road noise isn't too bad in the morning. It's Mr Masood's noise that's the problem. The interior floors are swept clean. The kitchen amenities and small appliances listed were present; glasses and plates were reasonably clean. There is a new ventilation/forced air system that works well in the room in which it is installed; the TV is very big, and the place overall was quiet. There is access to a few feet of the creek via a single set of steps. Because the place was so unpleasant, we spent the evening hanging out at the establishment nextdoor, Scopazzi's, and it is a gem. read more

Amazing stay. Truly couldn't have asked for a more welcoming experience in the heart of Boulder Creek. Tall redwoods scattered around all the recently remodeled cottages with an elegant redwood build giving all of us who stayed a cozy feeling. We had the cottage right off the river and took naps on the porch hearing the water trickle down. The lodge is close to downtown and only thirty minutes away from Santa Cruz and right around the corner from Big Basin. Masood, the owner is truly one of the many reason to extend your stay and come again. Funny and accommodating he made sure we were comfortable and having fun. Definitely recommend! read more
