We were so pleasantly surprised that the hotel was so enjoyable considering the low reviews. The room was spacious, very clean, bed very comfortable, the bathroom was clean and the towels were white. We have been traveling for more than a week and this was the most comfortable nights sleep we have had so far. The hotel staff were friendly and personable. The morning breakfast had a huge variety of food, drinks and snacks. The breakfast was delicious!

But it's always been a great place. However this last time was pretty bad. You guys need to step it up with the bathrooms. Our water pressure was horrible. The sink sprayed out like needles and you couldn't do anything without water getting everywhere. Then there was the shower. The water barely came out. It was in dribbles. When switching to the shower it came out fairly well. The toilets have been notoriously bad when flushing. They barely flush. So if you take a crap you better hold the handle down until all the water flushes or you will have floaters galore. Having said all this. The staff is very nice and the restaurant is really good as well as the service. So it isn't all bad. Just horrible water pressure.

I haven't stayed here yet, but I have eaten at the restaurant and toured the lobby area. El Rancho Hotel opened in 1937 and was built to be a place for people in the film industry to stay at while filming movies in Gallup. Several western movies were filmed in the surrounding area during the 1940s and 1950s. There is a lot of history to this hotel. Many movie stars have stayed here including John Wayne, Lucille Ball, Humphrey Bogart, Gregory Peck and Ronald Reagan. In the lobby area are several photographs and memorabilia that pay tribute to El Rancho's rich past. Historic El Rancho Hotel is located on historic Route 66. You can't miss its neon sign out front. In addition to rooms, it has a restaurant and a large gift shop. We came here one night to explore the hotel and walk through the gift shop. A gentleman welcomed us and shared with us his many stories about this hotel. We enjoyed his company and he mentioned to us that there is a secret room upstairs. We eventually figured out how to access the room and enjoyed how its decorations pays homage to the past. The courtyard area in front of Historic El Rancho Hotel has chairs to sit and relax on. The upstairs balcony also has chairs. The lobby is my personal favorite place in this hotel because of its grand staircase and the many black and white photos on the wall. We ate at the restaurant one time and enjoyed the New Mexican cuisine that they serve there. Someday I will probably stay here. But if not, exploring this place is still fun and a nice throwback to the old days of Hollywood.

She initially said our reservation per email was for the 25th and we were there on the 24th. I did remind her that it was the 24th and that seemed to anger her further. I then texted Priceline and they gave instructions on what she could do to double check. She picked up her screen monitor, turned it part way towards me, shook the monitor and said you DON'T have a reservation. She kept reminding me she was trying to help but just kept repeating we aren't registered. At no time did she try to get help from someone else. She said I could pay for another room and then I declined saying I'd already paid for a room. I told her we weren't going to stay at all and could I speak to a manager and she turned away and said something like good go, I don't care and went in a room behind the desk. No one else came out. I did speak with a customer service rep at Priceline and ultimately got a refund.
