They seemed to be genuinely glad that I was visiting New Mexico. One asked me, very politely, to sign the guest book (No personal info, just my home zip code and # in party). I had some questions about the time zone, Daylight Saving time, and some highway info and they answered them all without having to look up anything or resort to Google. Very impressive. The bathrooms were clean and well kept. Lots of signage discouraging washing dishes and/or dumping food in the sinks. Haven't seen that before but it must be a problem they are trying to address. Parking and access to the building and facilities was easy and close.

We LOVED this, the shops were so beautiful as well as the rocks behind it, it was like we stepped back in time to a place where the roadtrip tourism was still thriving and route 66 was on it's best. We have to be honest here, the shops here aren't in the best of shape and the people aren't the friendliest either but it is a sight to be seen and it was truly life-changing for us how the nature changes when you just cross a state-line. We've never seen such beauty before and from here on our love for arizona started.

In a remote region with few public rest areas, this location offers a clean and safe oasis. When we stopped in January 2021, there were staff members limiting capacity to 5 people and requiring people to wear masks, in effect enforcing what should be common decency at all rest areas during the pandemic. I did not see signage for its anticipated re-opening. The woman at the gate who took my national park pass was not at all chatty. Not welcoming. She also did not indicate that this center was closed. I still got out to walk around and check it all out. Then I decided I should use the restroom before my haul to Albuquerque. Denied! The restroom in the nearby dining hall was closed for cleaning. Lol. It would have been nice to have gotten my passport stamps and learn a thing or two, but maybe next time if there is one...

I got my passport stamp, and we were able to quickly purchase postcards and a DVD that was on sale. Even though it was close to closing time there were plenty of people still in the center, but the staff didn't seem to mind they were still smiling. I do regret not being able to spend the time to look at the exhibits in the center, but next time I'll try not to dawdle on the drive through the parks.

After 7 years, I have found a pizzeria within a reasonable driving distance of Gallup which is not Pizza Hut or Dominos. It was $10.99 for a 16" - 18' pepperoni, with a twisted garlic butter crust. Go to their national site and browse food and beverages, pizza fort a description. I'm extremely disappointed with my experience at this Flying J in Gallup, New Mexico. The attendant, Ivan, was extremely rude and made us feel as though we were being watched and treated as if we were going to steal something throughout our time in the store. I also felt that the treatment toward us was prejudicial and completely inappropriate. While checking out, I asked about the price of an item because the shelf price clearly indicated a lower price than what was ringing up at the register. Ivan told me the shelf price included tax, which did not make sense, particularly since groceries are generally not subject to New Mexico's gross receipts tax in the same way as taxable merchandise. After we completed our purchase, Ivan followed us and asked whether we had paid for our items, despite having just watched us check out. I went back inside and provided him with my receipts before leaving. He then told me that I was no longer allowed in the store. This was extremely disrespectful and unacceptable customer service. We are regular customers, and there was absolutely no reason to treat us this way. Flying J should seriously address how customers are treated at this location and the lack of professionalism displayed by this employee. Shame on this location for allowing a customer to leave feeling profiled, disrespected, and unwelcome.

He informed us that the elevator at the property was being serviced and that it will not be available upon our arrival. He asked if we still wanted high floor per our previous request. We were given the opportunity to change our request so we did not have to carry our luggages multiple flight of stairs. That was very considerate of him and praise him for providing guest great customer service! He also asked if we needed anything else prior to our arrival. We asked for extra pillows and towels. Upon our arrival, extra pillows and towels were already in the room when we arrived. Knowing our Marriott status, he also offered our choice of points or food in the market. Also provided us 2 bottles of water w energy bar. Thank you late night attendant for welcoming us upon our very late check in and making our rest day experience pleasant.

There was a broken hairdryer in the room that was promptly replaced by another broken hairdryer delivered by the front desk. There weren't enough pillows, and the television was as old as dirt, with poor reception. The walls were paper-thin, and we could hear everything going on next door and beyond. The rooms require an update, as they seem to have not been updated in a "decade or two". However, the front desk counterperson was pleasant, helpful, and eager to please. What impressed me more than anything was the call received before our arrival by a woman asking what we thought we might require upon arrival. All in all, it's the little things that count to me, and as long as I see an effort to please, I'm going to offer a fairly respectable review.
